i m using otg cable which works perfectly on my Oneplus 5t with all flash drives
But i tried to use it with the tablet it doesn't recognise any flash drive and there is a notification start to show in the notification panel "Usb connector connected" and then "USB connector disconnected "
How it works with you guys pls help
It does work. I've used an old USB-A flash drive to transfer files this morning with my USB-C adaptor from my S10.

Honestly, I can't remember - I think NTFS though as I'd format to avoid file size limits.
It works fine with only fat by default. No support for ntfs by default.

It does support exFAT as well, but you are correct it does not support NTFS. Boggles my mind...

For some snack money you can use the Paragon app to mount almost any drive format. Full name is "exFAT/NTFS for USB by Paragon Software". Attach a USB drive, Paragon should detect it and ask for access. Grant access, and mount the volume. Might need you to grant always access instead of one time only. Can be a bit buggy in my experience.
Now that the drive is mounted we get to some Samsung problems... the drive is virtually mounted inside the native AOSP Files app (not Samsung's My Files) but Samsung hides that from you because branding or something so you have two decent options:
1. Install "Files" by Marc apps & software, which is literally just a shortcut to open the built in file manager Samsung hides from you. You will see the Paragon contents in the side bar.
2. Or you can install "Total Commander - file manager" which has some kind of partnership with Paragon and works very well together.
Even if you go with #2, I suggest installing #1 as well because there are a few situations like this that come up now and then. There are other apps out there which can mount different drive types but this combo should serve you pretty well.

Do you have an OTG adaptor from a Samsung phone? That's what I used and I've got no issues. I've also got a OTG adaptor with HDMI and USB-A and that works fine too. So, OTG is definitely supported. Perhaps a fault with your port?
I've just checked and my drive is formatted to exFat.

The adapter is probably the problem, good luck! I have Ethernet*, a flash drive, HDMI, a mouse and keyboard all attached right now to my tablet over a USB C hub. It should work if your peripherals are good.
*Stupidly, in 2020, a few apps still won't use an Ethernet connection (they have some internal logic to specifically check for either WiFi or mobile data and if none is found they decide there is no connection). So that's stupid. But what's hilarious is Samsung's own account sync service is one of those apps!

Have you installed paragon app?
Lately I had the same issue on S3 and had to definitely uninstall it.
Then tried on S6, but it probably goes in conflict with Samsung driver and even here doesn't work...
I'm using one I got on Amazon a while ago and it works fine with multiple flash drives and a USB Ethernet adapter. So otg definitely works for me

I took your advice and used the "Files" app and the current version of Paragon.
Trying to add files to Kodi on the tab, but can't seem to find the directory where they're held. "Files" app shows them with no issues.

Works on Honeycomb with the Flyer, I assume the View is the same.

USB host works fine even with the unit turned on. Just plug it in and HoneyComb sees the drive automatically. Just remember to go to settings > storage and unmount drive when finished.
For me it was the cable that made the difference.
I have not tested with the latest incarnation of HC, but I found in the past that if the OTG cable was not plugged in at boot, then it would not be recognized later if you attached it. You can plug in the drive later. Note that if you have a lot of media it can take a long time, (15 minutes or more) for things to show up in the gallery.
Also the Flyer will only recognize the first Fat32 partition on the drive if you have more than one.
I have not been successful getting it to work with the view and honeycomb. I haven't tried restarting it with the cable in though. Any view owners get it to work?

I use a 1TB harddisc, and yes it takes long (up to 1 minute), but sure never ever 15 minutes.
Time depends on how many and what type of media you have. I have 5000 photos and 8000 mp3s, plus 100 videos. It usually takes about 15 minutes FIRST time for the media to all show up in gallery.
So still no one with a View. I don't see why it would be different, I'll be a little pissed if I can't get it to work.

You could monitor logcat to see why the mount is failing.
I had to do this to for an external fat32 drive on my Flyer running Paul's Honeycomb stock leak. I mentioned on another thread concerning usb host that /mnt/sdcard/usb is the default mount point; Android won't create this folder if it's not there, so you just need to create it. I'm guessing you're just running into a similar problem.
As others have suggested, this only worked for a fat32 partition, mostly because it's basically automount, which is also the reason why there happens to be a default mount point. I guess you could try other file systems and mount points by mounting manually with busybox, but I haven't tried that. Has anyone had success with a manual mount?

With my setup (Nokia CA-157 cable, powered hub and seagate drive) I get a quick popup … “Preparing Tablet Storage”

USB folder was created automatically on mine. Have successfully mounted Transcend card reader with a "y" cable and USB battery. No such luck with HDD formatted in ext3 (yes, I know it's supposed to be fat32). I have an empty 500gb HDD that I'll reformat to fat32 and try at some point. This is where my Archos g9 80 beats out the Flyer/View; I can mount
NTFS, ext3 or fat32 without external power.

In principle, you could compile the module for the kernel you're running and just insmod it (if you have busybox and you're running a kernel that supports modules). The CM7 Gingerbread team on the Nook Color got host working, and I'm guessing that's where they started. I think the big hurdle is triggering host mode, which is also a problem in HC. Someone could probably contact the CM7 team and copy their procedures.

Now that you mention it, I'm not sure if the automount scripts were updated since Paul's HC stock leak; I haven't tried any other ROMs. It's possible you don't have to create the /mnt/sdcard/usb folder anymore....

You might need to go into Settings->Storage, and under the "USB storage" header, tap "Mount USB storage".

Wrong........... the Flyer wins with a miraculous stroke. You see the Flyer and View were specifically designed NOT to do USB host, but by miraculous luck the chips used to support HDMI and USB debug happen to have the function available anyway so while you will not see HTC advertising USB host as an official feature , we get it anyway. There are scripts and utilites to mount NTFS, ext3 out there, just happens that Android default is Fat32

I have almost 40 gig of CAD files that I sometimes need to share with employees and clients.
I no longer need to carry a laptop … just a small portable hard drive, small hub and my Flyer
I use kWS web server https://market.android.com/details?...9yZy54ZXVzdGVjaG5vbG9naWVzLmFuZHJvaWQua3dzIl0. it’s free.
Next go to no_ip.com and set up a free account. After you have chosen your account name (like hxxp://myname.redirectme.net) go to account settings and check port80 redirect.
Now start kWS on your Flyer go to settings and set your dns server to no-ip.com and your username/password.
From here on all I have to do is plug in the drive and start kWS
they can now access that drive from any computer with an internet connection.
I also use the hub to read thumb drives.

I was considering the archos 80 as well because of your mentioned reasons, but the size of it didn't match my criterias. (yes, size counts)

Nope, not wrong...MY opinion. Ther are other ways the Flyer/ View is superior to the Archos. The View is my carry with me device and the Archos is my preferred ereading/media device.
It was a joke.
But we are doing something that was never designed into the Flyer, so it;s hardly a fair comparison.

It does not sadly.
Why there's no mass storage is beyond me. Hopefully a FW update (probably in early autumn) will fix it.

Unfortunately not. Google moved from UMS to MTP with Honeycomb because UMS locks out the storage to the phone when it's plugged into a computer.
I've never heard of this being an actual problem for anyone. You've only got it plugged in for a set period of time.

If you are having a rooted phone, there are StickMount from chainfire, Alt Mounter and SGS3 easy UMS that will allow you to connect the android in Mass Storage Mode.
Can someone post a link for SGS3 easy UMS because download keeps failing from site and Google didn't help.

Stick Mounter has nothing to do with UMS.
Alt Mounter requires a helper service on the computer and can only provide FTP access, no real mass storage.

Whether it works with car hifi etc depends on your devices. A user 'Siran' reported that his car-stereo took some time to recognize it and the playback had hiccups, but at least the last issue could be attributed to the SDcard not being unmounted in the phone before mounting it on the computer.
Currently the app uses the 'old method' while my script correctly mounts/unmounts to prevent such issues.
The side effect is the same as always; that particular card is not mounted and available in the phone as long as it's mounted as mass-storage on external devices. However that should not be a real issue. No negative side effects are known or likely to exist.

Well, isn't possible then to use it simultaneously from the phone and the usb? What does this app stand for then?

It is, check the "--- BELOW ..." lines in my link.
However it WILL cause data corruption and data loss and might even cause the SDcard's filesystem to be damaged beyond repair.
What you do is use the same filesystem in 2 distinct locations which individually write on it.
To understand how that causes an issue, you'll have to get a basic understanding of a filesystem; they actually work like a science book.
You have an index listing all directories and files aswell as their relation to each other and where on the SDcard the file is stored.
Now if a file is modified the index is changed and then the file added,changed or deleted.
So far, so wel.
If you now mount it on 2 locations (mind you: filesystems don't know about that, so each location thinks it is the sole one accessing it) and work from 2 locations on the same data you have a rather high chance that one operating system will eventually overwrite or alter data without the other one knowing about it.
If the index is too damaged you'll not only loose some files but potentially all filenames and folders. Applications like Recuva can recover most of the files (at least usually) but it won't be pretty, easy and complete.
Simply don't do it. There is a reason why noone implements it

You mean OTG (USB On the GO). I though it was for both OTG and MSC.
Last night, due to the wonders of MTP, it took me nearly 2 hours to transfer 2gb of data from my S2 over to the S3, with many popup interruptions delaying the transfer.
God I hate MTP's speed with many small files. But I guess it could be worse if they locked the filesystem down.
I purchased this OTG adapter off og Amazon and it works fine with my mouse with a blue tooth adapter stuck into it. However, when I connect a thumb drive to it, I can't find it anywhere afterwords.
The phone sees the drive, scans it, the drive's light is lit. But when I go into the browser, there's nothing there indicating my thumb drive. Same result with hooking up my card reader with a CF card in it.
Am I missing something here?

Have your tried to go into My Files App look to see if your thumb drive is connect under USB Stick etc....

It should show up under USB Storage in my files or root explorer. (usually at the bottom of the list for some reason) If it's not there it probably has to do with the ROM & how it handles MTP or something b/c I use it all the time.

When I look there it's empty. It could be because of my card reader. I don't know. I'm going to get another USB stick and see what happens.

Try another flash drive. I don't know if your being rooted has anything to do with it (I'm not) but my generic cable works fine with the couple of flash drives I've tested it with.

I tried another two thumb drives and all I see is an empty directory, usbStorage/cda. Funny thing when I pull the drive a message pops up saying that the drive "is not mounted empty or not present". Go figure.

Well, I have been on a mission for the past few days not only to allow r/w for NTFS on the Mojo, but also to be able to use more than one USB device (hard drives, sticks) at once. I noticed by default if I had my 2TB HD connected and then connected another drive, the second drive would not show up. Not until the first drive was unmounted. Basically, one drive at a time. Well, this does not cut it for me as I would like to be able to leave my 2TB connected to the hub and then connect a secondary drive whenever I wanted to move items over to the larger drive. After testing various applications, I FINALLY found the fix.
Initially I tried Paragon NTFS, and while that worked, it was buggy. The NTFS drive would not unmount sometimes, and I had to mount it to a custom folder even to get it to work.
But then, I tried Chainfire's "Stickmount". It works! It re-mounts your drives to /sdcard/usbStorage/sda1, sdb1, etc. My 2TB is sda1, when I connect my 500GB NTFS it is sdb1, etc. Copying/moving/deleting on NTFS works (my 500GB is formatted NTFS) and copying from one drive to another works. It all just works. The program auto loads on reboot and auto mounts everything. If I use the app to unmount, it will unmount the last mounted drive first (my 500GB, then my 2TB if I choose again) which works out beautifully. Now I can leave my 2TB media drive in there at all times, and if I want to either bring something to it or work with some other files on a USB stick...well I just have to insert it and in a few seconds it is also mounted
I had to reroute all of my emulators paths to look for my roms at the new location and Poweramp to look at the new location for my MP3's, but thats all. Now I have multiple drive support as well as NTFS r/w support. Fantastic. I tried rebooting several times and it remounts each time. Read various games, movies and so on from the mounted drives and everything works.
Just a heads up on this EASY fix. What an awesome application! All you need for this is root

Does it spin down the drives while not in use and activate them back when required?

I believe spindown is a feature of the hard drive more than it is a feature of the OS (or OS tells the HD to spin down, and if the HD has the feature it will). My HD is a 2TB Seagate with it's own power plug. It is always available when I access it so I assume it is not spinning down. I used to be heavily into the Wii (hacking, modding, etc) a long time ago and remember running into issues with hard drive spindown (some would and some would not) and it ended up being the HD's firmware that either told it to or not to.Some manufacturers offered an alternate firmware with no spin down, and some did not (mostly WD drives). Where the Wii was concerned, you did not want it spinning down when you were running DVD rips
I have been using stickmount now for a few days and it has not let me down. It works great. I only wish I could find a way to have Android not auto mount the HD. Basically when you boot the Mojo with a HD connected, Android will mount it. Stickmount wil also mount it. Not a big deal, but you end up with the same drive on two different mount points. Every other drive you plug in afterward are mounted only by stickmount of course.
One thing I should mention is to make sure you hit "yes" for downloading additional files when you first run it. This downloads the NTFS 3G and exFAT drivers

Yeah sounds right, I think it's more on the OS (or in this case the app) just putting the HD in like a hibernation mode.. to save power etc.
I guess if you have a powered hub, it's best to just keep it always on like the mojo.

What I have to do is use Paragon to unmount the drive, then use Stickmount to do the mounting. The stickmount unmount doesn't work, and the Paragon mount doesn't result in a writeable drive...
What I would really like to do is disable the automatic Android mount on startup... I'm thinking that will allow Stickmount to do the mounting automatically... Thoughts?

Although I no longer own the Mojo, I will say that stickmount does mount on boot if you purchase the Pro version. The only issue I had was that multiple mount points then existed because Stickmount mounted and Android mounted. It made things annoying like certain music players finding two of the same song and so on. I searched high and low for the ability to disable the internal Android auto mounting of USB drives, but could not find any solution.
In case anyone else see this thread installing CM12 rom will resolve this issue
