Using the phone arena finder tool i noticed that every year Smartphones are getting everyday more expensive but specs still the same, today there's 0 phone comparable to, for example, the Xiaomi MI A1 in terms of specs/price...
Or even, the Moto G on its launch
The MI A3 has similar hardware with minor generational improvements, but it cost almost $100 more...
Is there any option these days for poor guys who wants a decent multimedia device? or is the market just getting more expensive with no improvements on specs compared to previous years? :crying:
Are end users really wanting to pay more for the same? Or are tech influencers moving the market to the wrong place?
(I understand that those last 2 questions are too sentimental, feel free to discuss the first ones which are more productive IMO )
I have a pixel 3xl and I love it

My POV:
Buyers are not primarily interested in buying a high-end technical product. They want to have the coolest current device. Manufacturers have recognised this and are consciously strengthening their brand with the aim of increasing customer demand and thus the profit margin for the same (and equally expensive) smartphone technology.
With regards to a smartphone's hardware:
Probably the areas of particular interest are screen technology, time of flight sensor, cameras and image sensors, power management, and radio frequency componentry.
In 2015 this chart was published in a German tech magazine

It shows not only the low manufacturing costs of a smartphone, but also that certain components cost noticeably more than others.
The biggest cost factors that do not appear in the upper chart are only indirectly reflected in the smartphones:
One of the most expensive is certainly R&D. Large sums of the margin are also sunk into this block, if one includes patents and licenses.
An equally large block is marketing, which, especially in the case of Apple and Samsung, consists of contracts with providers, television and other advertising, presence at public or own trade fairs, and even the construction of own marketing properties. Everything to increase or maintain the value of the brand.
Wrap-up:
The only influence consumers have over smartphone makers is in their decisions about which phones to buy. My advice is to buy Chinese phones: they have the best price-performance ratio.

Hey everyone, was thinking of buying this phone (snapdragon version) from aliexpress, read the other thread but it didn't answer my questions. I would be upgrading from an i9300 samsung (yeah it's old as heck, but it still works kinda flawlessly (messed up the gsm/3g network antenna)). I understand that performance wise the difference will be night and day, but after looking at a few reviews online i'm starting to wounder about the camera quality. If i compare to the 13mpx camera on the mtk version the photos in average lighting and video in average lighting look worse than those same samples taken on the 8mpx i9300 ones. I take videos a few times a week and i usually take out my phone to shoot photos of some modeling projects (usually parts and combinations of then, less often girls), cars and other stuff i like and want a good amount of detail (at least as much as i can get from my S3).
Also how is the network reception? I'm usually at places where network reception is poor for me (again, f-ed up a bit with my phone).
=And a side idea=
Any chance you can fit the 4.1Ah li-ion from the redmi 3/ 3 pro? I have had a few times on some other phones where li-po batteries are in use get hot to an unpleasant degree while charging and never had those issues with li-ion's.
My answer is yes it is worth it, for the money you will not find much better. However it is still a budget phone and it has compromises, the camera is good but not the best, low light performance is grainy as you might expect.
However in good light it can capture very nice detail.

I havent tested video yet but there are some nice video demos of this phone on youtube. It is capable of recording in 4k but the frame rate is a bit choppy.
Reception is fine for me, I cant comment how it will be for you if you usually experience poor signals, my area is usually very good.

One App, Two Screens – Compare while You Shop with HUAWEI App Multiplier
Most would agree that online shopping can be a headache sometimes. There are just so many different products out there, from high-end goods to second-hand bargains. After scrolling through a sea of goods, many of us just give up and pick a random item, or buy nothing at all, because we've already forgotten which product we liked the best, or which had the lowest price tag.
That's why it's so refreshing to see that HUAWEI Mate Xs is equipped with a handy feature: HUAWEI App Multiplier. With App Multiplier, you can open one app across 2 split windows, and easily manage two tasks at the same time, such as comparing product specs and prices. The Mate Xs' foldable FullView Display lets you see everything at once, so you don't need to scroll back and forth, or switch between apps.

The online shopping app, Lazada, is an ideal fit for HUAWEI App Multiplier. By splitting the screen into two windows, in either landscape or portrait orientation, you can really raise your shopping game.
1. With HUAWEI App Multiplier, you can compare product specifications and prices side-by-side in one app. There's no need to go through one-by-one and add products to favorites. Online shopping is more convenient and less time-consuming than ever.
2. Once you've decided which product you want to buy, you just add it to your cart, and continue shopping if you want to.
3. Another great thing about Lazada is that it supports in-app chats with sellers. You can display the product specification window on the left screen, and the chat window on the right, and ask the seller about the product as you look at the specs.
HUAWEI App Multiplier, together with the stunning FullView Display of the HUAWEI Mate Xs, takes online shopping to the next level.

5G is arriving fast, driven by the huge demand for massive connectivity, high bandwidth, and low latency. GIV predicts that by 2025, there will be 6.5 million 5G base stations deployed and 2.8 billion 5G users around the world. Full 5G coverage will be available to 58% of the world's population, creating new business models, new services and applications, and a new level of experience.

Massive Connections
5G will be a vital factor in the widespread adoption of the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) and autonomous driving and will also spark fast growth in V2X applications, fleet management, and remote driving. 5G will also bring bright prospects for smart transport. The white paper Top Ten 5G Use Cases released by Huawei Wireless X Labs predicts that by 2022, the IoV market will be worth up to US$145 billion, and by 2025 there will be 200 million 5G-connected cars around the world.
High Bandwidth
Remote direction coordinated all camera resources, allowing the crew to capture multiple angles at the same time, giving audiences better views and more options. The combination of wireless cameras and camera drones provided an instant and immersive experience.
5G+VR can offer a golden ticket to basketball fans across the globe, making close-ups of every feint, pass, and facial expression possible. Courtside seats and interacting with the crowd around you and the players on the bench…all is possible with a US$6.99 headset. Virtual reality users will experience fine-grained immersion in any play, with the ultra-low latency of 5G meaning that users get a truly real-time, HD VR experience.
Low Latency
In April 2019, doctors in southern China carried out an endoscopic heart surgery with the support of a consultant surgeon 400 kilometers away. Able to watch the entire procedure in HD over a real-time 5G connection, the consultant could oversee the surgery, guiding incisions and more.
Data published by Huawei's X-Labs reveal that there's a global shortage of 4.3 million doctors and 27.3 million nurses. The wide adoption of 5G technology in wireless medicine will mean that experts can be shared, essentially appearing at the operating table or bedside as needed.
