i have a phone that wouldn't charge the battery. i pulled the battery and charged it up and put back in phone. the screen still shows i need to charge the battery. i pulled the battery again and the charging port looked to be in bad shape, so i put a new one in. battery still showing needs to be charged. bought another battery, same issue. how do i troubleshoot it from here? or does someone know what it is?

Hello there. I recently purchased the Seido 1400mAh battery and it came in today. I turned off my phone and popped in the new battery and turned it back on. From what I read about battery calibrating, I let the phone die and then plugged it in to charge. I wanted to check on it after charging for a few hours, only to find that it won't turn on. The red light kind of flashes when I push the power button. If I put my old battery back in it turns on just fine.
Any idea?
So I let it "charge" over night and still had the same issue. I was able to get into Android today but after a few minutes it just shut off. The battery has never gone above 0%.
Could this be a defective battery? The reason I bought a new battery is because the stock one is bulging and doesn't hold a charge, but it charges just fine in the phone.

The batt is defiantly defective and needs to be replaced if possible
I just got my replacement battery in the mail and it isn't charging either. This just doesn't make sense. It shouldn't be my phone because the stock battery charges just fine...
It was working fine before I went to bed last night, then I let it charge for the night since that battery was at about 4%, But this morning it won't turn on at all. The battery feels warm as if its been charging but nothing seems to be making it turn on. Any ideas?

If it was my phone here is what I would do.
First I would see if the phone charges the battery by putting the battery into
the phone and plug the usb cable from phone into the wall charger or into
the computer.
If the display on phone shows a picture of a battery charging let it charge
for an hour more or less and try turning on the phone.
If the phone is not charging the battery I would purchase a cheapy battery
charger and battery combo on eBay.
You can find this combo on eBay for less than $8 bucks shipped for both the battery and charger:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1800m-BATTE...045605?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item43aa9a4465
(even if you decide to return and exchange the phone its still a good thing to have a spare battery and charger)
Check it out.
Good Luck!

are you on cm7? not sure about the s2 (never had the issue), but i know that on the infuse, there was a problem (or maybe it was intentional) with low power charging mode (phone wouldn't charge when off).
i think this can be solved by trying to charge the phone via your computer usb, as opposed to your OEM wall charger.
Thanks for the suggestion. It definitely isn't showing the picture of the battery when its plugged in to the wall or the computer. I'm debating the battery charger combo you linked.
I actually am. But I have it plugged to my computer and nothings changed.
Time for some trouble shooting.
Start eliminating possibilities. You need to determine where the problem is.
From what you say, it seems possible that the battery is completely discharged but not recharging. That could be a bad battery or it could be the phone.
If you know someone else with an SGS II, try inserting their battery temporarily to see if your phone will boot. If you don't know someone else, maybe you can borrow a charged battery from the store where you bought it.
Continue on until you pinpoint the problem.
Do NOT buy a "cheapie" battery for your SGS2. Unless you want to eisk causing damage. The stock battery for the SGS2 has NFC technology built into it. Using anything other than OEM could cause damage/performance issues to your phone, and void the warranty.

Have goh tried a battery pull? Unplug the phone, pull the battery and let sit for a few minutes to allow tbe IC's to discharge. Put battery back in and try powering up the device. Good luck.

Similar issue and got phone fixed finally
Have had similar issue as yours. Cable charger was plugged into the phone to be charged at night and was surprised to find that the phone became hot and battery was not charged at the next morning, in fact the battery level got lower than it was before charging.
Notes:
- ROM in use: AOCP version 7.2 (Android 4.4.2)
- Kernel in use: Version 3.0.101 [email protected] #3
Here are some tests done and the observations after getting a charger with a slot to place the removed battery for charging:
1. Charging via USB cable connected to PC:
- With the phone turned on, battery charging icon is only displayed after some wiggling at the charging port. The phone got charged further to 100% when the initial remaining battery level is 90%. However, when the initial battery level was less than 50%, the battery level continued dropping ALTHOUGH the battery charging icon was displayed.
- With the phone turned off, battery charging icon is only displayed after some wiggling at the charging port. When the initial battery level was less than 50%, the battery charging icon displayed only a battery level of 1% and the battery level did not increase at all after 15 minutes of charging.
Initially suspected that it was a dead battery issue and bought an i9100 battery, I thought it was a compatible battery at first. With the i9100 battery, I repeated the above tests.
- With the phone turned off, battery charging icon is NOT displayed but the phone screen flashed continuously, and at times the phone is turned on automatically as the USB charging port is inserted. When the phone is turned on, the charging proceeded as the above sentence.
Upon searching the forum, I found that i777 has a different battery with NFC chip and i9100 battery has reported to cause issues during charging on i777 devices. There was also a Chinese forum which mentioned that the battery compatibility issues should have been overcome in ROM with Android version 4.0 and above.
I then bought a new i777 compatible battery and tested charging via USB cable. The observations are same as the first battery as at 1.
With the battery issues possibility eliminated, I approached a phone technician to examine the phone by telling him that the phone couldn't be charged and the battery level continued dropping even with the battery charging icon displayed. The phone technician then thought that the USB charging port to be the cause of the charging issue and replaced it. The replaced part is the small metal housing where the USB cable is inserted, and is replaced by heating the old metal housing and replacing it with new part by soldering.
The phone could be charged with USB cable as usual after the part replacement and all the batteries are found to be still working fine. Ended up with 2 i777 batteries and a i9100 battery, may be I could continue using this phone for at least another 5 years down the road.
Hi all,
I am posting here after hours of research on my problem. Unfortunately I have not found anyone else posting similar issues so I decided to make a thread. *sigh*
okay so, I bought my samsung vibrant (t-mobile) from a seller on kijiji. He let me know ahead of time that the battery life "sucks" .
okay so, here is my problem. I have two batteries that were given to me when I purchased the phone.
1 standard samsung battery, and 1 generic ebay china battery. He told me he wasen't sure if the "china battery" worked.
okay so, the samsung battery did not last long at all, even with minimal use, ensuring that background applications were closed etc etc, I did my best to ensure optimal battery life as I had read so many tips and tricks on this forum many times over before.
But, I left my phone to charge one night, and the next day my phone wouldn't turn on, instead when I press the power button, a loading circle would display on the screen and it would show the battery charging screen when your phone is off, and it would flash on the screen for oh about 3 seconds then go black.
so I switched the battery to the ebay battery. it was working alright, I downloaded a battery application to monitor how much it was actually charging etc.
on the first day, the max power it seemed to charge would be about 68%.
by the second day it was around 45%
the third day, 23%, and now, today, my phone battery has died, I had it charging, and I managed to turn it on. I checked my battery application, and it said the battery was at 0% and it was attached to the adapter in an outlet charging but not holding the charge I guess. Well, I turned the phone off, and the same thing that happend with the previous battery is happening with this one, that loading circle thing, and the battery charging indicator flashes on for 3 seconds and no charge.
I purchased a new battery online, I am just waiting for it to arrive, but I am beginning to wonder if this is a problem with my phone or if it is a battery issue?
As of right now the phone wont turn on because of the "dead" battery.
any diagnostic help would be greatley appreciated.
it's most likely your battery. unless the usb is broken. have you ever connected your phone to your usb? the batteries the ebay gave you sounded like they needed to be replaced anyways. i suggest you go on amazon and get the anker 1800 mah battery.
Most likely you are going to need a new battery. If you know someone with a Vibrant or Captivate, maybe borrow their battery to see if your phone boots up with it. If you have a battery charger only, so that you can charge the battery outside of your phone and insert a fully charged battery, see if that works.
The Samsung advice they always give is to remove the battery and hold down the power button for about a minute. Then reinsert battery and try again. GL
My friend has the same problem with his Vibrant, his phone will charge to maybe 75% max. Except he has bought 3 different batteries (2 oem and 1 aftermarket) and they all have the same result. I've been trying to help him find a solution before he "breaks the damn thing" lol
I'm starting to think its a factory defect or something.
Hi,
My Moto Photon won't charge anymore via the USB port. The green light doesn't go on. But this isn't because the battery was deeply discharged. I tried to do my due diligence and search the problem.
This morning, my battery was down to 5%. I charged it at work, and it got up to 30%, but the phone was really really hot. There didn't seem to be any weird apps running or anything.
Anyways, I left it on and off, it left work at 20% charge. Then when I got home, it was down to 10%. But it wouldn't charge. The green light doesn't go one when I plug in the AC adapter and USB cable. It also wouldn't charge via the computer. While on, the computer didn't recognize the device.
I took the battery out. Blew on it. Restarted the phone. Still no dice. The battery indicator didn't indicate that it was charging either.
Now, the battery is pretty much dead. Won't boot up anymore.
Is this a battery issue or a phone issue? If I buy a new battery, would it solve the problem?
Thanks!
Try getting a battery replacement?

Hi All,
Please help me with my battery problem.
I was playing some game, the phone had around 30% battery. Suddenly it went off. Then I tried turning it on. It showed 0% charging. I left it for sometime, it still showed 0% charging, and since then its showing the same. It shows 0% charging when I use an external charger to charge it, as soon as I unplug it, it goes off.
My findings :
I trired a few on and off tricks, I cant calibrate coz I can't charge phone to 100%. Then I left the phone on charging for a few hours, it did charge, and somehow the battery showed 100% charged, but when I unplugged the charger, the phone shutdown quickly.
The battery is in good condition, I have used a few apps to check that. The battery is still charged, but the phone doesnt know about it, and reads it differently, phone always finds battery to be 0%. The battery stats show "0 seconds on battery",so I guess the phone isn't using battery at all. I tried hard resetting as well. I believe its a software problem not a hardware problem.
Please help me, I cant get extra battery as of now as I am not at my place, I will be out for 2 more weeks atleast. Neither can I submit my phone for repairing until I am back at my place. Why is the phone not using the battery that is still there? Can anyone help please?
Replace battery, and if that doesn't fix the problem replace USB board/port.
Replace battery with a reputable battery. It will fix the issue.
