Getting started with flashing? - Android Stick & Console AMLogic based Computers

Hi,
So, I bought an OTT X96 mini. Existing stock ROM crashes so often and goes to freezing and bootloops time to time (seems to coincide with when I sign into Google).
I like to try the ATV Experience. I used to flash custom ROMs often in early days on my phone.
The installation guide on the ATV Experience thread seems simple enough but I cannot find information on below,
1) How to connect device to PC if I brick it?
2) How to confirm if the ROM is compatible with my device? (I know it has S905w but what about the board?)
3) How to backup existing recovery and system (full ROM) before updating?
4) Did anyone experience similar stability issues or do I have a faulty unit?

1, usally just be flashing another firmware with USB burning tool, unless it gets properly bricked, then your option would be to short the NAND on the board to put it into flash mode, may also be a way using serial cable but im not too sure
2, Trial & Error, a lot of the time it will fail at 2% if you have firmware that is not right at all, if you have root you could extract the build prop and see what reference board it is based on (probably p281), so i would start by looking for a "universal p281 ROM thats supports ddr3&4 and should boot on most s905w devices, good place to start
3, im not sure, think it has to do with nanodroid backup usin a custom recovery but i personally just neverbacked up, probably a way to backup using ADB as well?
4, i dont have that device personally but it sounds like poor firmware, all these boxes are notorious for it, if you get atvXperience running well let me know as a would like to port my own rom to s905w devices

Nabi Big Tab 20 Stock Rom Request.

Long story short I modded my stock rom and only made a backup after I removed a bunch of system apps I knew were safe. Well youtube stopped working and my children like to watch you tube and Nabi release an update to patch their system to fix the youtube issue but I can not flash due to missing system files. Looking for stock unupdated or even updated rom for the nabi big tab 20 and help would be great. TWRP is the only recovery that I am aware of for this tablet.
Thanks in Advanced!

Still Needing That Stock Rom?
I kinda did the same thing. So I just bought another Big Tab 20 to flash TWRP and backup the stock rom. I must mention at some point the Twrp Backups did not restore properly on the previous device. Dont know what happened. Im scared as hell to do this because it seems like theres no turning back to stock and this one cost me a cool $100.
Where I may find the stock rom or TWRP backup for this tablet?
I bricked this, just doing root and rename launcher and chrome apk in system folder, after this I get a bootloop.
And I need pinout a nabi connector, don`t have a usb cable..
Bringing this back from the DEAD
Hello,
I just got this Nabi BIG TAB HD - Model on device is bgtab-nv20a.
I am able to access recovery and select to wipe it, however when booting into Android it will ask for you to connect to the internet, regardless if you do it or not, a message will appear not allowing me to proceed, the error will be that it cannot connect to the FUHU server or that it cannot perform update and therefore cannot continue.
I am looking for either a way of rooting and flashing a custom ROM or simply get it to boot with the already installed Android system.

If you can find a custom mom for this device please let me know lmfao. There's some extreme hardware packed under this really old device.

Ulefone Power costume rom??????????????

Hi well today I here that the Ulefone Power will be out in some places and its a very good battery life 4 dayds with out charging it so I want to know is their any plans for costume rom this baby as this phone is very affordable and was wondering if any one is planing this me be 64bit rom?????????????????????
Dude! I second this motion! The phone's a beast but boy does the stockrom suck.
Cant wait for some talented guys to do a custom rom for this phone. Im very happy with the hardware, only the rom is a little bit wanky.
I have had this phone for three weeks now.
It's a truly fantastic device! Hardware is good, makes great pictures and the massive battery can last me for 12 hours without changing it. Let me clarify that my Note 4 was able to stay alive without my spare 3000mAh Samsung battery for no more than 4-6 hours.
The only complaint i have with the Power is that YouTube, as well as RadioYouTube are lagging here and there. I tried few tweaks form the Developer options to reduce the lag, but not much improve was noticed.
So, a good custom ROM to eliminate the issues and make it even better would make this device a real leader in reliability and satisfacton.
i dont know but i have a feeling one 6.0 is released some custom roms should come out, no point making them yet with it coming out in the next week or two (or three with the current delays), cant wait though, getting mine today hopefully!
I would like to notice that front camera on stock android 5.1 really sucks! It's just terrible, when I flashed android 6 it's way better but still it's sharphing photos to much... In video recording there is no problem so I am 100% sure that's software problem. Hope it will get solved with some custom android 6 rom . This is just an info for future developers.
custom rom
I found custom rom on needrom. It's ported from leagoo shark. I'am using it and better than stock rom. If anyone build a custom rom, i will try.

No CM version.
I heard that Ulefone Compagny has given some devices (Ulefone Power) to ROM Developpers.
So We could maybe get some custom roms or port from another devices in a early future
Rooting uleFone Power
Hi all. As posted earlier, there are instructions on the Ulefone blog on how to root the device.
http://blog.ulefone.com/how-to-root-ulefone-power/
Here's a quick rundown. I'm also uploading all the tools I downloaded and used to my Google Drive.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzqEmGyNP_v6cWdZVU5rRnpmbDQ
If you rather get the things directly from the Ulefone Blog then do so.
DRIVERS
Based on checks, it's probably best to install the driver directly. One of the instructions given is to turn off the phone and connect it to the PC. When I did this nothing happened, and I only started to get some results when I turned on the phone while connected. At this point it flashed very quickly that there was an MTK device but drivers weren't installed. After installing the drivers on the system and doing this again, it managed to install the drivers properly. I also noticed that booting the device with VOL+/POWER gave me the option of installing the drivers also. As stated on the site - you may need to disable driver signing for Windows 8/10.
TWRP
This part is pretty straightforward. Unzip all of the files. Run the SP FLASH TOOL. Enable USB CHECKSUM in the options for SP FLASH TOOL. Locate the scatter file for TWRP and hit the download button while the phone is off. If nothing happens for you, simply turn the phone on while it's connected and the download button is already pressed. It will prevent the phone from booting and flash TWRP directly. You may go into TWRP by holding VOL+/POWER until you get the menu for normal/fastboot/recovery and select recovery. Please bear in mind that at this menu, the VOL+ cycles the options and the VOL- selects/confirms the option.
ROOT
Once you've completed the TWRP installation, start TWRP and allow modification of the system partition. Select the options to reboot into the system and then swipe to install SuperSU and root the device. That's it - you're done!
Screenshots and photos will follow.
Hey there!
Any news of a custom ROM for the ulefone power?

Good spec but lousy apps and Bluetooth.

I took a gamble buying a Chinese phone redmi-note 2 but sadly! it hasn't worked out for me.
All I wanted from it, was for it to do what it is supposed to do.
Bluetooth
Bluetooth doesn't connect to any of my devices, car, Hi-fi and not even my nexus 7!
Miui updater
Totally useless on my phone. This app crashes every time I select "choose update package"
I have looked for help on YouTube but the majority of videos seem to be Indian, using Indian versions of software where the updater app seems to work perfectly.
I managed to root my nexus 7 with ease but the redmi-note 2 is a nightmare.
I could really do with some of you android guru's to point me in the right direction! in finding a good beginners guide to finding all the apps and suitable rom for my phone, Or better still.! A way to get Bluetooth to work.
First of all check if your device has official rom or custom (if you bought it from China it probably has custom rom so flash official one).
Mine is working very good...
I second what ibeqa said - you're probably running a crapware-loaded ROM. Crashing updater is a good hint. You could also look into "about phone" section for the MIUI version, if it's something like 9.99.99 then it's crapware. "Legit" ROMs have version 7.xx.yy or 6.xx.yy. The crapware ROMs are IMHO the main reason why Xiaomi decided to lock the bootloader on RN3 and other newer phones. Because obviously, those ROMs give them bad reputation even though it's not their fault.
Bluetooth works fine for me, but sometimes it hangs up forcing me to restart it - not optimal but doesn't happen too often.
As for rooting, rooting the Nexus 7 (2012) was the same as RN2 for me - connect to PC in fastboot mode, flash recovery.img, reboot to recovery and flash a custom ROM. There are enough guides out there. For the RN2, fastboot can be accessed by starting the phone with the volume down key pressed.
Agree with the above. Please re-flash using official ROM via fastboot method and then try again. See http://en.miui.com/a-234.html
Android version 5.02 LRX22G

I Have downloaded Update supersu 2.4 and miui HMNote2Global v7.2.2.0LHMMIDA_DA_d71ff21b81_5.0.zip are these correct please?
I installed CWM but have read that TWRP is the one I should be using! is that correct?
The trouble with the redmi 2 ,is there is too much conflicting information out there, making it very difficult for a newbie.
Is there any other things that I need to download?
This whole thing has really put me off the Xiaomi brand. I just expected bluetooth to work ! it is supposed to be standardised worldwide.
To you Guys it is probably fun to mess about with different roms, all I wanted was a working phone.
"MIUI Version 66.77.33.00" <- that's your problem right there. You reseller installed a crapware loaded ROM and has modified the version so that you never get an update (= he can spy on you forever), had you bought from another one, you would have gotten a working phone. I know mine did.
Putting blame on Xiaomi for this is misplaced, unless you want to blame them for being dev-friendly and leaving the bootloader unlocked. They reconsidered by now, though, their newer phones are locked.
In any case, yes TWRP is the way to go personally. CWM has cut important features like backup/restore (at least the version shipped with cyanogen roms I tried), so it's basically useless.
For the ROM, if you have downloaded it from the xiaomi page, then yes. You could also get the rom from xiaomi.eu if you want to use an European language.
If you just want official MIUI then you don't need to install custom recovery (use fastboot method instead as per official instructions). In fact the custom recovery will get removed next time you receive an OTA update.
Personally I use TWRP from this link http://en.miui.com/thread-224679-1-1.html because I wanted to install root. But only do this AFTER you install a clean ROM at the first place.

I bought the phone from Gearbest.EU and expected it to be direct from Xiaomi, as I have never had a problem with this company before.
I have had another go at installing a new rom with the Mi suite and also with the miui flash tool and am not getting anywhere with it. I can't even root the damned thing as it boots into Mi when pressing vol up and start. This happened with CWM and TWRP.
I have said before, that I have little experience with android and perhaps I am going wrong somewhere! or the tutorial posters are using phones that have totally different roms to mine. ,It is very difficult when you have Indian,Chinese and global versions with many variations of each, the same seems to apply to CWM and TWRP.
Is there a way to install this via windows, ie formatting the phone and running an installer direct from pc?
I had a dabble with Linux mint and Artist in the past and found them quite user friendly, I can't believe that android is Linux based! I could have done a fresh install of windows, several times by now,the amount of time I have spent on this. Of course windows truly is global with only a couple of variations . Format disk, run and your away. Then hours installing software.
I am fast getting to the stage where I shall give it a bounce test, from a great height. :crying:

Caterpillar S31 root ?

Gentlemen,
What apk should I use to root with success a Caterpillar  CAT S31 running Android Nougat 7.1.2 ?
In a first step, I would like to throw away all the G***** ecosystem.
In second step, I also would like to replace Nougat by LineAgeOS.
As LineAgeOS doesn't provide a firmware img for this mobile, it is realistic to choose an image from another mobile using same CPU (snapdragon 210) and same GPU ( Adreno 304) ?
Thanks for your help

But as I don't understand much of carriers on unlocking bootloaders and stuff, could anyone post more information about this method if anyone decides to follow it? That was from a user which says he got to root the phone and that's how they did it. Also the person doesn't talk about unlocking the bootloader, for example.
Just want to make sure it can be rooted before I buy it, because I won't buy a phone that can't be rooted and I'm having a hard time finding a good rugged phone that can be rooted...
EDIT: I've uploaded everything to a folder on my MediaFire account here: http://www.mediafire.com/folder/thqmkg68l2h2r. In case anyone tries this, please say here if it worked! Also, I can't link MiracleBox... They had a "special" version of it there and I think it's better for me to not link it... But search for MiracleBox on Google. You'll find it.
EDIT 2: I'm not into this anymore - from the moment I decided not to buy the phone (not too long after this comment). I'm leaving the link because people still download from it, so maybe it's useful. If it's not useful at all, someone please tell me and I'll delete it.

If you really want that to happen, I think you should try another phone.... I'm done with CAT phones. Only the more expensive ones can be rooted with 100% certainty - because there are tutorials about that and not just people saying how they did it in a random post like the one I found (and not all models, I think) -, and I don't remember about ROM flashing (didn't get to that - can't buy them, anyways, too expensive).
Perhaps you could try Blackview? I'm going for them. In my case, BV9500 (not Pro or Plus - but Plus is out of question because there's no root, I think). I think from now on, I'll try to always buy a MediaTek powered phone. As long as you have a ROM and the scatter file, your phone possibly won't brick. SP Flash Tool will save you. As it did with me various times (and I did everything that wasn't supposed to be done and still always worked xD - I only read about what shouldn't be done months after changing phone and getting it to work always). BV9500 has a MediaTek chipset, and a forum has ROMs for it. In any case, even if they hadn't, I can generate my own with SP Flash Tool and have a copy of the stock ROM that came with it, so if I brick it, I can restore it completely. Root seemed to be also to be possible, so I chose it. Gonna buy it when I can.
Sum up, if you want to be possible to flash ROMs of a phone, I'd say go for MediaTek powered devices. I'll try not to go away from them again, as I did with my One Plus X (even though I can flash ROMs on it, but I still trust MediaTek with SP Flash Tool more than others, since my experience with it was "do whatever you want, you can't brick anyways" (and I never did haha)). Can't be completely sure that still happens on newer MediaTek chipsets, but I guess I'll find out by myself if I ever do such stupid things again (after reading, not sure I will haha).
EDIT: You might also want to try RockChip powered phones. I have a tablet with a chipset from them and it's possible to flash partitions with a tool like with MediaTek chipsets with SP Flash Tool. So I'd go for one of those 2. I guess I'll only go for devices where I can flash partitions whenever I want, without having to unlock the bootloader first (less safe as anyone can do whatever they want if they steal the phone, but at least I can't brick them).
Thank You!

Xperia 1 - I got swindled for a 'StoreFrontDemo' phone and I can't seem to flash it?

Hey everyone,
So! I bought a Sony Xperia 1 (J8110-2019) phone from someone on Facebook Marketplace at a very solid price of £250 (RRP is still £850 in the UK) due to the seller describing it as 'in retail demo mode' so they lowered the price. I jumped the gun thinking I was getting a solid deal and just stupidly assumed it to be a feature I could just disable with *#*#73556673*#*#- me believing I was some insane developer with mad coding skills where in realityI had once flashed and rooted my Xperia XZ back in 2016. [Insert 'Hackerman' meme]
Yes... I am fully aware I'm a complete idiot for not doing a full assessment on the phone and am now having to learn a very important lesson from this situation!!
It seems to have a Store Front firmware installed and unsure what firmware to download and flash? I've tried some of the official stock ROMs from XperiFirm and it just continues to boot into constant 10-second cycles of demo videos making general functionality like phone calls pretty much impossible. without interruption. I've tried Customized and UK Service Provider Firmware such as EE and O2 but it always goes back into Store mode.
I was hoping if anyone would have or could elaborate on how to make an executable system flash zip for a 2019 Xperia 1? When I extract files from XperiaFirm ROMS (FTF,ZIP,SIN etc), I don't seem to get any META-INF files and thus cant make the proper .zip that TWRP needs to successfully flash a new repacked stock ROM? It always ends in a boot loop."
Here are some key points to hopefully give you some background:
I've installed TWRP successfully and have attempted to use 3 official firmware to flash whilst in recovery but have been unsuccessful each time with 'Invalid .ZIP format'. I've only a few times got booted whilst bundling together FTF files via Flashtool and doing it that way round but only ever seems to solve half the problem
I can't use the SinExtract feature in Flashtools as the SIN file errors as not being supported yet to use different file versions.
I can't use PRFCreator as it errors as the FTF file being unsupported (Due to it being new I assume)
I attempted to create my own META-INF>Updater-script but am unable to identify what partition my phone would use for mounting on "/dev/block". I only ever seem to get MANIFEST.MF from the files and nothing else. On my XZ I think I used something like:
(package_extract_file("boot.img", "/dev/block/mmcblk0");
package_extract_file("system.sin","/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/system");

I have been able to install Magisk for rooting and verified.
I have used Minimal ADB and Fastboot to install programs like TWRP, SuperSu, Magisk but have never attempted, nor would I even know how to wipe my phone completely and install a clean stock ROM - is this possible?
All drivers, software, and systems are correct and up to date (as far as I am aware)
Would installing the' Service Exchange Firmware' be recommended (if I ever make it that far!) due to it being StoreFront?
I checked the IMEI number to see if it was blacklisted/blocked and it's all good. Not lost or stolen.
Thank you for your time to read and wallow in my woes with me my lovelies! Any help would be GREATLY appreciated you magnificent beasts! x
Bump x
