Demo/Retail Model, Anyone able to unlock bootloader, install custom rom, etc? - LG V60 ThinQ Questions & Answers

Pretty simple question, haven't seen any talk about this yet.
Anyone working/worked on a way to put a stock or custom rom on the retail demo model of the V60?
Before people start saying this;
YES I know the demo models have no imei or modem

I have had a v60 demo unit for a bit and have searched extensively and have yet to find anyone that has flashed another room onto it. Found one person who tried flashing two different variant stock roms and it ended up bricking the device. I was able to get retail mode off mine, but the 50% battery limit drives me up the wall. I'd love to know a way to over ride that.

With a little bit of development, as far as software properties go, I don't think it would actually be too difficult to get your device in a working order. We have a few V60s that have an engineering bootloader on there (I say "an" and not "the" because the process to unlock these has raised a great many questions) but it's still a curious process. I'm focused on another phone right now but we're hopefully wrapping that up here within the next week or two.
Once that's done I can come back to the V60 and continue trying to get it to work. I don't think it will be very long from now but there is still some time until then.

fasboot oem unlock give me an ID number?

I was fiddling with adb after work and out of curiosity I tried following the unlock procedure that I used on a Xoom before. This has probably been tried so thats why Im asking. When I issue reboot bootloader and then fasboot oem unlock through adb, it says "If you wish to proceed please re-enter the command containing the unique ID of your device: "Then it lists an ID." Its 16 characters long. Is this echo normal? I did get my fastboot.exe from the internet somewhere because the SDK I got didnt have it.
I looked online and the way you unlock the bootloader on an Atrix is by doing the same steps so that leads me to my question: What happens if I re-enter the command with the unique ID? Im just afraid to screw something up. That is according to this link: http://mobilegeeky.com/hack-unlock-the-atrix-4g-bootloader/
I find it hard to believe that unlocking the bootloader is that easy but I just dont want to end up in a "curiosity killed the cat" kind of scenario and brick my phone.
Thanks guys!
I tried it for you . It just returns a message that says "OEM unlock is not implemented".

Thanks man. Im kinda skittish with my phone. Thats disappointing it doesnt do anything but what else could we expect haha.
Well, I figure I don't have much to lose. I can upgrade at a discounted price if I want so I figured what the heck. Worst case, if for some reason I couldn't sbf my way out of a jam I'd have to use the upgrade. That wouldn't be all bad though.

what are you looking at for your upgrade. I'm due an upgrade also n have done allot to this x2
But don't really know where to go from here. A razor? was suggested a galaxy nexus but know absolutely nothing about that.
Get the galaxy nexus. Its completely stock android. It gets tons of updates because it runs pure android.
Sent from my MB870 using XDA App
Well, I've done a limited amount of reading on the nexus. If I was looking to upgrade, I'd be tempted to get one except for one thing. No sd card. Don't think I want a phone without support for a sd card. I also did some reading in the nexus forum here. The phone isn't without it's faults. For one thing, it looks like there's a fair amount of people who aren't happy with the glass on it. The say it scratches easy. That can be remedied with a screen protector of course, but, if you happen to be one (like me) who doesn't care for screen protectors, well, it's a negative too.
Anyway, I haven't done enough reading to come to a final conclusion on what phone I'd get. I'm not really looking to upgrade at the moment. Things are just getting interesting with this one.

Hi, new photon owner

Just wanted to drop a line as a new Motorola Photon owner.
I have been an XDA member for years and owned multiple devices. The Photon is replacing a HTC Shift. I additionally own a Sony S tablet.
Enjoying this new device!

Welcome to the Photon community!
Yea, welcome to the Family!
Welcome! I'm new too. Long time lurker, brand new poster. I have the Motorola Electrify, which is basically the same as the photon with some slightly different software, and no 4G =(. If you see people saying things like "Will you make an Electrify Version?" or "Does this work on Electrify?" That's just because the Photon and Electrify are so similar that making two forums is kind of silly. Unfortunately for me, my BL is locked, but I believe all versions of the Photon can be unlocked, so if Custom ROMs tickle your fancy, you're in luck!

I would not say unfortunate, I was unlocked and custom for months. 2/15/2012 I went bone stock and never looked back!!! MotoBLUR is not the best, but play with it long enough and you get things where you want them, you become confortable? Matter fact, if you put 10 photons side-by-side, I could pick mine on the first try!

Yes, I'm mostly fine with stock. I love it honestly. I just want to remove anything that's tracking me (a root should probably help with that) and to replace webtop with Ubuntop or Webtop+ (I'm still researching this.). I wouldn't mind switching to a custom rom if it still offered the full encryption, improved Exchange connectivity and the ability to get a real read on my extended battery.
I don't mean to hijack the thread, I just finally found a post with someone that likes stock and may know enough to be able to compare both or at least help me out in my searching.

I don't see it as jacking, I see it as a "one shop stop" for a new member and bring them up to speed on a few items/post that may interest them.
The encryption/tracking issue has been around for some time. Personally, I dont care. I go to work, home, maybe the grocery store, mall sometimes, and law enforcement is not looking for me (I dont think). secondly, once all carriers ditch CarrierIQ (is that the company that did their tracking?, that pretty much eased some mines. Personally, my GPS and WiFi (unless I need it) are off, you may get close off cell phone tower, but exactly where I am...............
As for Stock, ROM's gave me a headache. One day the phone worked, next it did not, would get home and it was working again? When I finally decided to put it back, I made a serious effort to see what stock had to offer, 2 days later I was happy and decided to dig deeper. Yes, I have a lot of bloatware, I just don't use it! Matter fact, I really don't hit the "App's" icon. Everything I do on a normal is on one of the Panels that I can find easily. But since I use the phone so much, if I'm in e-mail and I want to chack my bank, I just press and hold the home button and the last 10 current apps come up anyway, then I open the bank.
Thanks everyone.
I am a heavy modder, and spent 5 hours the first night I had my Photon downloading apps and setting up everything the way I like.

F.Y.I., downloading apps and setting everything up and modding are apples and oranges. Like srkelley and I, I have downloading apps and set everything up, stock! (matter fact, at one point I had 230+ apps, broke that down to less than 60!
Modding = Rooting (gaining Admin Rights to root directory) and unlocking (kicking Sprint to the door and taking control of your phone to do anything you damm well please, Like blowing away SprintNSCAR and installing whatever you want!)

I'm too boring for big brother, but if anything were to ever occur then I'd like to make things as difficult as possible for them legally. I just don't like people going through my stuff but pretty much have to accept that it happens in our lives now. Not without a fight and exercising all of my rights though!
I'm probably going to back up stock and try something else for a while. I honestly don't feel limited in stock, just in Webtop. If I'm going to really go through with modifying anything then I may try underclocking the processor to see if I can get better battery life without losing performance in regular use. I don't do anything too taxing on the phone so it's power is mostly wasted on me outside of keeping things smooth.
hello
Welcome,have you unlocked and rooted?
Hi,
I also bought it few days back and I have rooted it and installed CWM too. My photon is unlocked meaning I can put any operators sim and use it. I am now in India and using it with Tata Docomo.
If I change the rom, do I have to unlock it again or it will stay unlocked forever ?
Thanks.

You've unlocked the bootloader, so you can install custom ROMs, kernels, etc.
GSM isn't locked unless you are in the US, its a world phone.
Another Electrify user here, but I'm neither new here, nor new to the device. I've had it for a little over 4 months now. And I will never go back to stock. Screw that. The closest I will consider going is CM7.2. CyanogenMod+Gingerbread. I really don't want to downgrade from ICS, though. It's too nice. I will admit part of the thrill is having something most others (93% of Android users!) do not, but I genuinely like it on its own as well. I just got a huge performance increase going from stock to Joker's CM9, and ICS requires more resources than Gingerbread. Yet the phone runs faster? How does THAT work? It's because of bloatware. And Blur is just terribad. I imagine CM7.2 would be pretty slick since it doesn't require the power of ICS and has all the crap from Blur removed.

Nope! If you unlock the bootloader, it's unlocked. Flashing ROMs doesn't touch the bootloader. To re-lock the bootloader you would have to flash a locked bootloader. I haven't heard of anybody doing that, though.

[Q] Fire HDX 7 - Is it safer to flash Roms and Root now?

First, I apologize if this ins't the right area but it seems like a General question.
I recently bought a Kindle Fire HDX 7" and have had it about a week now. With all the Amazon Bloat and lack of Google apps I need more out of it. I am not a beginner with flashing roms and such, my HTC One is Rooted, CyanogenModed, and has a boot loader, anyways...
I have spent the last couple days reading up on the ways to do it on the HDX 7 and heard many warnings and bricks of this device, but some of the posts are a little bit older. I can't really tell which method of Rooting/Flashing is the safest out of all the different ones. My current OS version is 13.3.2.1. Using the Safestrap looks pretty easy and from what I understand is that even if you do brick it you can recover the original?
My question is... Is it any safer to flash a Rom lately (due to the updating problems?), and how safe is just rooting it for the time being? Also, what method/tools would you suggest to use? I don't like the FireOS and would like to get it close the a standard Android and/or CyanogenMod.
Thanks for your time.
well

actually you came just in time and have the right firmware and place go to the development section and start reading we now have a brand new recovery that bypasses the security on our bootloader. I would advise reading reading these threads thoroughly. And your particular software is rootable with the existing utilities we have in the development section also. There has been a lot of development very recent keep in mind they are first version may be buggy but the utility .94 can get you rooted and safe from updates until you can do more research. And get your new recovery in place.
Thanks, by what you said I am guessing the internal workings haven't been figured out quite yet. I will head over to the development boards and see if I can find. Sadly I updated to FireOS 4.5 not knowing that there wasn't software to to roll back for versions above 1X but read that I can call Amazon and have it rolled back so no worries.

I actually just got it rolled back, I read that people saying it doesn't happen anymore, but the very nice tech lady down graded me from 4.5.1 to 13.3.2.7. She stayed on the phone until it was completly reset. =) Now I should be able to root it easily with towelroot.
I was being pretty damn charming to her though, lol
I'm sure they don't want to and won't do it most of the time, but I is still 100% possible on their end, it's just wether they want to or not. I had a pretty decent story too, not just 'its slow and buggy'

after rolling back a couple of them it helps if you say that it was on version 3 then you updated to the latest one then make up some plausable combination of symptoms for example the one i went with is that my device restarts alone every 20 minutes or so and almost no apps work and then proceed to say that you were happy with how it was before it was updated
EDIT:also to note that i have yet to have them refuse me a single time through chat

I have just been reading about several people that have been rejected and why. There is a rumor that they gave it to their developers only and their technicians will go through your device logs and decide whether or not it is appropriate. Again rumor. I do not need roll back at least so far I have stuck with the old software all year...I just hate having to mess with trying to keep the OTA blocked. I just want them to take me off the ota push servers.

Problem rooting S5 active

I've recently upgraded phones and have decided to root my S5 active. Unfortunately, I am not running the NE4 version of the firmware, therefore, I am not able to use Towelroot. I've done quite a bit of digging trying to solve the problem to no avail. I've tried using Odin to either downgrade my firmware or install a custom/rooted firmware but Odin gives an "Auth" fail. I've done as much research as I can into why I get an auth fail and nothing I've seen suggested has helped. I've tried installing firmware through the SD card, looked into sideloading firmware but that seems to be only for updates as far as I can tell. I am well and truly at a loss and was hoping someone could help.

I hate to say it but you are in the same boat I am. There is no root for that. They patched the hole and prevent downgrading.
The only ones that might have been able to break it walked away from Samsung years ago. Sorry. Don't feel bad your not alone.
Surely to god someone SOMEWHERE has figured something out? Maybe I can take it to best buy and have them downgrade the software for me?

It won't work. The updated bootloader prevents it being downgraded. It would take a jtag machine and Samsung to do it.
No. No one has. You have to remember that the best walked away from Samsung. Anyone that tries to break it gets hit with a C&D order.

Considering no one has been able to be able to crack Samsung locks I wouldn't count on it. I would just accept that it is a locked down device. This is the reason developers Dont buy Samsung devices anymore.
I've shot the creator of towelroot an email asking about mod strings. Hopefully he can explain it a little and help me out. If I find something out I'll let you know but I still am hopeful someone has SOME solution for me. I'm desperate

Well to be honest. If root is something you need then you should avoid Samsung.
If you find something then cool. I'll never use it. The security issues could get me in trouble keeping with my job so it's out of the question.
The only reason I'm trying so hard is because this is my old phone and I can't really afford much of anything else. If I felt like I had another option, I'd go for it. I have no security concerns, I'm not even particularly concerned about bricking my old phone. If I can't figure out how to root it, it might as well be a brick anyway for how useful it is.

It's still a good device. Even stock. The security concerns are there you just don't understand them completely. As an example. They store your IMEI. Which can be used to clone your device. As such when the oem sees 2 IMEI the same it kills both devices. Making them both not work.
I'll be honest for that device you are gonna waste more time trying to find away around it. ( it will be blocked again with the 6.0 update that is planned for it) then you would just using it as is. Mine is completely stock and works as it should.
I'm honestly not worried about losing the device to something like that. I'm not storing anything particularly interesting on it but I need the root to do what I want. I won't be updating the firmware at all so it'll never go to 6.0

Well then good luck. You will need it. Also keep in mind with those root you will have to reroot every reboot. That's if he can find a new whole Samsung has not patched, which is becoming harder with monthly security updates.
It is well accepted around here that sooner or later only nexus devices will be rootable or have any development done for it.
If I had known that earlier, it could've saved me a lot of hassle but this is where I am right now. My new phone is the S7 edge and I really want to use the S5 active for something else.
No one knows of anyone I can even pay to look into maybe even changing the firmware? No way to load custom firmware at all?

No. Samsung locked it down. They made it so the bootloader can't be downgraded. You have to understand most of the real good developers walked away from Samsung and now refuse to work on their devices or even buy them. When it comes to developers Samsung is at the top of the list right next to Xiaomi of devices not to get. More and more teams are even dropping all support for Samsung devices. It's just the way it is really.
And since it's a phone the hardware can't be changed either?

It can be but you would have to find a device that has the old 4.4.4 rom and then swap mother boards. Not easy at all. Let alone the min it gets connected to a cell network it will update anyway.
I know it's a hard thing to do but I would get used to it mainly with the new device you just. Got.

Phone came out around 2 months ago, same phone and same problem. Sorry to inform Root/TWRP won't be available for a while on the phone since it's so new no developer has gotten their hands on it to start developing for it. I predict it'll be faster than most new phones because it's exclusive to T-Mobile. It would take much longer if the phone had different variants because of the different carriers, but that's not the case with the revvl so what's left to do is to wait and hope ::fingers-crossed:
Anyone has the stock rom for this device?

I may be able to help with root. I don't have the phone, but if someone is willing to potentially risk their device for the sake of science, let me know.
If this goes the way I think/hope it does (since its a MediaTek), we may be able to get root and recovery in a VERY short time for this. If not, then unfortunately you're out of luck for now. But, if one of you is willing to risk it and try, I'll be more than happy to help you out.
For now though, nobody update their firmware AT ALL. They may release a patch in the future that blocks what I want to do.
UPDATE: I got to play with one at a T-Mobile store. CPU Z says this has a 6755 board, which is commonly available through other phones that have been modified. I'm really getting excited about this... If this goes the way I hope it does, you could be having TWRP and root REALLY soon.
i will be back in germany at on dec.21,if german t-mobile can't unlock it for use in germany I am willing to do anything with it for science..since I will throw this useless piece of technology at the wall anyway

Let me know as soon as you have access to a PC with Windows or Linux, which I'm guessing is when you get back to Germany. For now, make sure you DO NOT TAKE ANY SOFTWARE UPDATES AT ALL. You can update apps from the Play Store still, but keep away from all system updates at all costs.
Send me a PM for how I can reach you, when you're ready to work with me. The procedure I'm thinking of will not unlock your phone in terms of network (like using it on other carriers), but if it works you will definitely have TWRP and root access, and MAYBE even a bootloader unlock (for installing custom ROMs).
But in the meantime, I can't stress this enough, AVOID ALL SYSTEM UPDATES. This goes for anyone who may want to root their phone using this method, if this works.
I just bought one to use on a spare phone line - Cyber Monday sale for $48! I'm happy to experiment when it arrives. Maybe the sale price will entice some other developers...

$48?????? THEY WERE $179 WHERE I WAS!!!!!
For that price I would've bought one myself... But yes, that would be great if you could work with me when it arrives!
I would be willing to help as much as possible with root access as well. If you need any sort of system dump or something let me know I am very much willing to help!

Overall, it doesn't look like we have any of the obstructions I was afraid we were going to have so far. We need to work on a few things before we can get the whole thing done, but as of now, this hack looks like it will be 100% possible to do
UPDATE: We're running into some trouble again. Stuff I may not be able to bypass. I'm not sure if this will be 100% possible now...
Picked up two of these for $48 each on the T-Mobile Cyber Monday deal and got them to waive the shipping, set one up for my Mom and it's a pretty nice phone. I still have the other one sealed in the box, debating whether to keep it or sell it. Root and TWRP would be awesome, hopefully it comes soon.

A device no one has touched could be beneficial, since that means there's no Google Factory Reset Protection on it (no google account associated with it yet). If you want to use your unused device for some of the tests/methods we're working on, let me know.
Another update on our findings: with the help of @lopestom, I've found out that this device looks to be a 1:1 copy of the Alcatel A30 Fierce, and a distant cousin of the A30 Plus that Amazon once sold as a prime subsidized phone. Despite what SPFT and CPU-Z say, this phone should be running an MT6738 chipset, which uses the same partition layout as the MT6735. I have a completed scatter file for the 6735 from my R1HD days, so if this is the case, knowing where the phone's partitions are should be no problem.

My biggest fear is, again, that SPFT is being blocked in the same way that it now is on the R1HD. Besides that, we found out that Google's FRP may prevent us from accessing the developer menu to enable ADB on the phone. Now, I could've sworn I got into the developer menu in a store demo Revvl by mashing the Build Number entry like I would on any other phone, but for some reason the person I'm working with is unable to get to this menu (mashing Build Number does nothing for him). If another Revvl user is reading this, can you please try to enable the Developer Menu and ADB for me? I want to see if this issue is just for him or if it affects everyone.
EDIT: The error given from SPFT with the Revvl VS with the R1HD are completely different errors, so this gives me hope that we can still use SPFT with the Revvl.

Hey my name is Jakob, i also has a T-Mobile revvl (Alcatel 5049w) and yes my developer options have been enabled without any issues and I'm willing to assist in rooting options if I can help
just tried doing a reboot to bootloader with no luck, it reboots, hangs on the power by angroid then fully boots to stock rom.

Worked on the Revvl Plus with @oasisfleeting tonight. It's a snapdragon 625 based phone, unlike its mediatek based little brother. This phone actually allows us to go into fastboot mode unlike the normal Revvl though. However, with the exception of fastboot devices (just shows what's connected), no commands actually work. They either all return "..." Or show that no device is connected (when it actually is). Even throwing in the device ID: fastboot -i 0x1ebf oem unlock does nothing.
For the mediatek variant, there is still a very small sliver of hope. For the Plus variant, I'm pretty sure you will never get the bootloader unlocked. Root maybe, but that'll be it.

There are other unlocking commands too. Did you try "fastboot flashing unlock" on the plus
I have also seen bootloader mode renamed before. so try "adb reboot fastboot" to get into fastboot.
