Yes. I've been rooted ever since the update. I got an XT1941-4 but root is the same.
Either flash magisk patched boot through fastboot or boot twrp and flash magisk from there, but the last option would require you to format data first, which is why I prefer patched boot for rooting this device.
Ofc bootloader must be unlocked first.

Root is now available for our lovely 6P!
Flash TWRP from here
Flash the boot image from here (angler-mdb08k-boot.zip)
Flash the latest SuperSU beta from here
then you'll be good to go!
Does it require a custom kernel? I couldn't find mention of it in the link. Also, what the heck is a "boot image?" I know bootloader, recovery, and kernel. Do we now have another thing to consider?
Cool... Can any1 confirm though that rooting wont effect fingerprint sensor working..... I don't really care for Android pay

I'm in the UK so don't have access to Android Pay I'm afraid.
Is there already a way to unroot? Also I hope we don't lose any data while rooting and then unrooting.
This will be my first Nexus.

If you just reflash the stock system image that would erase any trace of root. You wouldn't lose any data. You'll only be able to flash the root zip/kernel if you've already unlocked your bootloader. If you've not done that you'll have to do it first and the process of unlocking will wipe the device.

Um? Don't think we're quite there yet?
.
Quote from Chainfire.
Acquiring root without modifying the boot images is still under investigation. Please note that the current method will not be officially supported. Future roots may require a clean system: we are at a very early stage of root for 6.0, methods used are subject to change.

I'd download the factory image and update to the latest build. you can edit the "flash-all.bat" so that it doesn't wipe your phone. Change the command
"fastboot -w update" to
"fastboot update"
to preserve your data.
I have re-opened this thread, because the linked thread isn't the same - this isn't a duplicate.
"4. How To Root Your Stock Rom
This section will be revisited when more information is available."
This thread presents something new.

Just boot loops for me , even with Chainfire's boot.img. Is it necessary to do the steps one right after another?
Neat! Glad it is all happening quickly. I think I want to keep encryption, so I will probably wait to root and install TWRP until wiping data to remove encryption is no longer necessary.
Can someone please confirm if the damn fingerprint sensor still works after rooting?
I mean is there any possible way to root this device? I tried flashing SuperSU, didn't work. Then I tried flashing the systemmode SuperSU, got stuck in the bootloader warning text. I also tried some pre rooted Roms from the forum.. and they just won't boot. What am I missing here..??

Nougat could introduce more issues (e.g. Xposed doesn't work with Nougat as of today... Magisk & SuperSU... who knows?) but in theory steps should be the same...
More: this is unknown to most (and I don't have a clear explanation for it... only some hypothesis...) but even TWRP could have issues...
On another phone I've found (only one time to be honest... ) that an updated firmware required an updated TWRP to have it working (older one simply doesn't booted anymore even if reflashed...)

I don't like OTAs at all... I'll prefer going with flashing full images by fastboot (if stock images) or TWRP (if custom ROMs or zip flashable version of stock images...).
They are safer and cleaner than OTAs...

Are you able to restore all the changes you made to /system, to successfully install the next OTA-update?
Or you just reflash the whole stock image before the next ota?

"fastboot flash cust cust.img" and so on.
Hope this helps

I doubt it'll work, but I figured I'd ask: Has anyone tried this on the American model? (BND-L24) - I'm gonna test shortly, so I'll be able to confirm whether or not it works. If it does work, I doubt the bands will work properly, if at all, but I'll give it a shot.
I'd like to create this thread simply on the basis that TWRP discussion is bleeding a bit into the Root/Magisk thread.
This thread is specific to the Chinese/HK variants of the S10 such as G9700,G9730 and the G9750.
If anyone has any updates, official, non-official or test variants of TWRP feel free to post and discuss here.
Really need some development for these phones.

This is a waiting room for TWRP. Not root.
Snapdragon variants already have a successful root via magisk.

Could be TWRP for S10e available soon?
Bump. G9700 user here, bored since one ui 2.0 out, was looking for some stuff like twrp and what not.
Fortunately there's HeX for theming, which is what I'm most interested in nowadays, so no need for substratum.
TWRP is available here:

Great.
Magisk, edxposed, TWRP, everything is working great on g9750 and more.

I'm not disagreeing with you there.
My comment more comes from my opinion that many XDA users are relatively new and can't for the life of everyone read and read some more (or follow directions for that matter). There's a good chance they end up downloading the wrong file and getting into a mess.

I agree with what you said here, that's why in this situation, I show him how to flash first, then if the user shows interest, I will obviously show how can he make ALL the process for himself.
I've seen to many junior members reading all the "hard work" and just saying "F*** this, I will just try to find automated way..."
