So hello, this is my first Xiaomi device before that I have always used Sony Xperia devices. So I am really confused about some things. I got the Redmi Note 9S 64 GB model. Acording to many web sites and some threads on XDA this model should be "curtana". But what I want to ask is about my "codename". So I am currently on MIUI global 11.0.4 (QJWTRXM) and I have looked up on XDA and many roms require you to have 11.0.7. So if I look up on https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/archive/firmware/curtana/ I only get the QJWMIXM global version. Can I flash QJWMIXM without any problems? My wait time will end tommorow and I will be able to unlock it. If anyone can help me out on this I would be very pleased...
Oh now after I post it I think have found something about it... QJWTRXM seems to be the Turkish version of the global rom. Which is outdated compared to it. So I think I can switch to the global rom since my device is 9S (curtana).

I was wondering if we can change the codename by OrangeFox Recovery
I think the same device is called Curtana for India Note 9 pro and Curtana_global for Note 9s . Any thoughts?
I would love to change my phone to curtana_global to get rid of device codename inconsistencies when switching between global and indian roms.

Hey Guys Some one Explain it on MiUI forums.....
As many of you are aware, Xiaomi released the Redmi 2 Enhanced Edition (or Pro Edition as it is known elsewhere) with 2GB RAM and 16GB Storage back in February. However the only model released was the HM2014813 China Mobile version. Funnily enough this phone fully supports global GSM/HSPA frequencies and even has better LTE band support as it works on both 1800 & 2600MHz across Europe and Asia. Not only that but many resellers are now selling this device to international customers.
Whilst Xiaomi has released other Redmi 2 versions across India, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia etc they are all based on the standard 8GB model with 1GB RAM. These are built off the China Unicom HM2014811 model and as a result the MIUI 6 Global ROM works across all of these versions. However previously when attempting to flash the Global ROM onto the 2014813 model, the installation would fail.
Initially most users and moderators believed this to be due to the difference in RAM across the models, with one having 1GB RAM and the other having 2GB RAM.
Some users though speculated that this actually wasnt the reason as the Xiaomi MI3 and Xiaomi MI4 share a ROM under the Cancro model name. This is despite a difference in RAM (2GB & 3GB respectively) and even a different processor (Snapdragon 800 and Snapdragon 801).
It was therefore believed that it had something to do with the different radio frequencies and LTE band support. I decided to take a closer look and recently I managed to get a hold of the Redmi 2 (2014813) Enhanced Edition. I started by downloading the latest fastboot ROMs available. Firstly I downloaded the fastboot ROM for the 2014813 model from Chinese MIUI webiste. This was version 6.5.2.0. I then dowloaded the latest Global fastboot ROM which was version 6.4.4.0 (as the 6.5.2.0 ROM hadnt been uploaded yet).
I extracted the TAR images fully and opened the flash scripts. In those I found the file corresponding to the cellular modem known as the NON-HLOS.bin. I thought that if I swapped the modem file from the Global ROM with the one in the 2014813 software, I would be able to successfully install the ROM via fastboot.
I tried it and it worked! I managed to get the ROM to fully install via fastboot on my Mac. I unplugged the device and set it up. Everything went through fine, even setting up my Google account. However the most important part to test was still left. The phone functionality. Did my modem swapping solution work?
I plugged in a T-Mobile SIM Card and straight away got HSPA+ signal! I tested with a telephone call and got crystal clear reception on both ends. I then turned off WiFi and tried the mobile data which worked fine. I have now tested every single part of the phone including Camera, Gyroscope, LED, Bluetooth, GPS, Compass and Loudspeaker. They are all working. The phone even shows 2GB RAM in the multitasking menu.
The only function not working is the OTA update. As the update zip will try to replace the modem, it will fail during installation. However this is very easy for Xiaomi to fix. All they need to do is provide a Global ROM for the 2014813 model with the correct modem which as seen is just a single file. They should easily be able to add a download link in each future update for the 2014813 model, both as fastboot/recovery packages and as an OTA zip. Hopefully they add this soon, especailly as more and more users are buying the Redmi 2 Enhanced Edition. Other than that everything else works.
i have flashed redmi2 prime using remix rom i am getting red screen on my phone please help me further
Hi all!
I live in Germany and would like to buy a RN3 pro from Aliexpress. I don't want to stick around with MIUI but would like to try out different CM-based ROMs. The community here seems very alive, but I am confused by certain things. So I hope you can help me :highfive:
1) Some months ago, I followed the news about the Mi4c. People were complaining that Xiaomi won't let them unlock their phones. Are there no such problems with the RN3 pro?
2) Concerning the official firmware: I read that the phones come either with a Chinese or international firmware (or sometimes even bloated by retailers), and each has a hundred of version numbers. Are all versions possible to unlock? Or do I need a particular version to be able to root/unlock bootloader/flash a custom ROM?
3) Are there any differences between the 2/16 gig and the 3/32 gig version of the RN3pro apart from RAM/storage?
4) Is Xposed working fine on CM-based ROMs?
Best regards
1. I spent around a month to get it officially unlocked, till then I unlocked unofficially in few mins. But if you unofficially unlock whenever you flash a rom you must be more conscious and read every step that's given by Developer or else you will end up bricking your device(don't worry there are solutions for very bricking scenario) . So if this is not a concern you can buy
2. Whatever the firmware phone may come with you can flash MIUI global firmware and unlock it from there.
3. Nope not that I know of.
4. Yes it's working.
Welcome to the community.

1)as an unlock reason I pasted some chineese text found in the Internet and after 1 week I got my unlock code. So no problem there
2)Developer rom is recommended for that, but I think that the never versions of stable build also support unlocking. Anyway, it's easy to install developer rom with locked bootloader
3)nope

1) If the phone is updated to the latest firmware (7.3.2 at the time of writting) then the bootloader unlocking process time will depend on how long it takes them to approve the permission for you (got my phone on Tuesday and unlocked it today).
2)Yes all are eligible, but you have to be on the latest one. Likely you will get with an outdated Chinese rom and will have to update via MIUI updater (or similar name of the official software). I also suggest looking for the phone from else where, like here in the EU (think ebay.ie had some cheap ones), since i had to pay an extra 50eur for taxes and expenses (am from Lithuania).
3) No idea, likely none. I got the 3gb version because it's more future proof and can upload 2 videos at the same time vie desktop version of facebook. Also the software itself uses about a gig of ram. Plus it's doesn't cost that much more and a gig of ram makes a difference.
4) No idea, wasn't a fan of xpossed before and am not planing to become one.

To avoid any confusion go to Play Store and download an app called "Device info HW" or other similar of your preference, open it and go to section system, then search for Product.
Oficial twrp for vince is available in this forum as a lot of custom roms.
Hi all, just a clarification, i have Redmi Note 5, why this thread is unified? Does it means roms for "vince" and "whyred" are the same?
No, this forum is for Redmi Note 5 and Redmi 5 Plus both with codename vince.
Redmi Note 5 Pro is known in China like Redmi Note 5 (whyred)
Redmi 5 Plus is known in India as Redmi Note 5 too (vince); This causes the confusion both receives same name depending from where they comes (or where they were released)
Whyred (snapdragon 636) has other specs than vince (625)

Thank you for the info on that. However, I am living in China and my Redmi Note 5 was bought here, so it is a lot of trouble to get the google play store and set up my VPN before flashing the phone with a new ROM. Is there another way to see what the phone name really is?
Also, any thoughts on my firmware question?
Thank you so much for the help!

Then most probably should be Redmi Note 5 pro, if you are rooted go with a root file explorer to system in root directory and find the build.prop file and open it in your device with any text viewer and find the line ro.build.product or something with word product, you will see vince or whyred

I'm not sure if I understood correctly, some roms need to be installed also the firmware in some cases and for aosp based roms most of times you need to flash the gapps too but don't worry about. Here is the forum for you specific model https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5-pro and when you find a rom that matches with your preferences in the thread these steps might to be explained
I recently bought a Mi Pad 4 online. As expected, it comes with unlocked bootloader and somehow a fake global rom naming
MIUI by xiaomi 10.3.1.0 (ODJCNXM)
I just realized it doesn't have updater app meaning updater app won't show after I press the miui version. Also there's no battery saver switch ? Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it should have.
Now I decided to flash EU rom in hope that it should have atleast battery saver switch and updater app which I doubt because its 2 years already, but every tutorials/posts I bump online always redirect to en.miui threads that doesn't exist anymore. I gathered information about flashing clover twrp but steps on how to flash eu rom is badly needed (spoonfeed , i know). Most videos I found on YT are either indian or russian which make it difficult.
My knowledge on flashing roms is in somehow middle intermediate, so I'll take extra care before doing something.
Can someone show me the ropes? Your help is greatly appreciated.
Why are you dead set on using MIUI? Why not try an AOSP rom here?
Hello.
Has anybody tried fastboot version of MIUI12 for curtana? https://mirom.ezbox.idv.tw/en/phone/curtana/
you can find other version here https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/miui/curtana/
Installed and being trying it for 3 days now. Everything works perfectly. For my day to day usage I can't say I've noticed any big differences from MIUI 11 (I was using xiaomi.eu 11.0.11.0). Usage does feel smoother and the battery does last longer, although I have no documented evidence to show. I removed the bloatware as per the 11.0.10.0 guide and I've found no bugs. All in all I'm happy with this ROM.
Edit: Just wanted to meantion the MIUI camera app. There are no added features. No clone mode and no kaleidoscope mode. The only difference from the MIUI 11 camera app is the new MIUI 12 visual.

The fastboot version is installed via MiFlash whilst the phone is in fastboot mode. Use this to flash "as new".
The recovery version is like an OTA update (I think. Never used one).
I don't know which version is better (global vs eea) because I flash as a base for custom roms.
I have the Redmi Note 9s 6/128GB Global Model.
I want to flash the Indian Firmware so I will get the MIUI contacts and dialer (and call recorder).
Can someone please check if the Indian ROM has the HEBREW language, it should look like this:"עברית" under languages.
I will be glad for your help.

For anyone else wondering, the Turkish fastboot ROM (QJWTRXM) installs fine on a global Note 9S (QJWMIXM). Everything works as far as I can tell, and all the languages are there (though call recording isn't, at least in the default Google Dialer app).

Recovery is the "OTA" ROM you install with MIUI's built-in update mechanism or a custom recovery like TWRP. Fastboot is a bit more low-level, you restart your phone into fastboot mode, connect it to a computer and use a program that manually overwrites the data on the phone's partitions, a bit like using dd on Linux or disk cloning/backup software. There's also EDL mode, which is the same as fastboot but it's built into the hardware itself, so it works even if you manage to brick fastboot somehow. On recent Xiaomi phones, it requires an authorized Mi account (or a patched ROM, or someone willing to sell you authorizations over the internet).
Global and EEA are pretty much the same thing, but EEA ROMs are intended for the European Economic Area (the EU) so they have to comply with additional regulations like having to let you choose your browser and search engine or something. As a side note, I live in the EU and pretty much every store over here is selling the Global variant of the 9S instead of the EEA one. Global ROMs are "better" in the sense that they tend to be more up to date (as of me writing this, global is on MIUI V11.0.11 and EEA is still stuck on V11.0.4).
