Hi people. Is there a way I could turn off the touch button? It's too bright in a totally dark room and I read a lot at night.

I dont remember the stock ROM, but I use very happily Trebble/GSI/LineageOS 16 (with microG as I left Google completely) on my Palm, and there is Buttons Backlight option in System menu. I use standard Android navigation bar and touch button use as volume control (using Key Mapper).

I am too ignorant to compile Treble/GSI/LOS ROM by myself. I hoped there was an easier solution.
How long did it take you to do that? Coz i don't use anything Google myself and cleaning my Palm of it would be cool. I am just terrified of bricking it. It is very hard to get one where I am.
Can a total idiot succeed? Is there a way to back **** up in case something goes wrong and unbrick my Palm? The support section is really poor for Palm so I am afraid.
Thanks for your post.

I am pretty sure that as long as you only use sugar to flash everything you can never really brick the palm (as long as you are replacing the correct sugar downloaded files when you rename the system and boot images). I tried a bunch of Android 10 (LOS and AOSP) system images and never bricked it. As long as you can get to TWRP you can use adb reboot EDL to be able to flash back to stock using sugar. Just dont start flashing images in TWRP unless you are confident you know what you are doing, if you wipe/flash over EDL you would then be bricked.

I followed this post first: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/release-root-palm-phone-t4021201 and learned how to use Sugar. (I wanted root because of removing google's surveillance services.)
Then I followed this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-to-treble-gsi-palm-phone-t4101947 and learned to flash GSI using Sugar.
Finally I have chosen LineageOS 16 from Andy Yan's builds https://sourceforge.net/projects/andyyan-gsi/files/ because phone calls were not working properly in LOS 17.1.

Hey everybody
I just expose my problem
1-the Folio 100 i bought is a new brand (received yesterday)
2-I turn on my Folio 100, just in beginning they is no light on the 4 buttons,
i wait android to boot and in the homescreen i try to use the 4 buttons, nothing happens, no light
3- i decide to install the Foliomod without wipe (because the home button like the 3 another button don't have any light, i try to press the buttons many time, still nothing)
4- I install foliomod successfully without wipe everything work better but still the problem of the 4 buttons (no light and don't work)
5- I install different recovery.img but impossible to use it, it's simple, when i press the power button, don't have any light on the 4 buttons, look like the 4 buttons are desactivate on boot mode or anything else
I was wondering if anyone have the same problem ?...
I battle with that, i try to do a reset mode with the button near the battery, get off the battery (power button hold like do a clear CMOS) still nothing
I'm tired to send the Folio back
I really want to fix it, they is no way to fix this problem ?
Thanks !
one thing i find pretty annoying is the fact that to press the buttons you have to make contact with your whole finger.
I dont mean to make presure, I mean to make contact with a large portion of skin than just taping the button.
I got my folio one week ago and I am still getting used to it.
Maybe you already tried to tap the buttons in several ways but... this is the only thing I can think of right now.
By the way... the default behavior es to have the lights off and to turn them on for a second when you tap the buttons.
I hope this helps...
Thanks but if you check what i said, i can't use the buttons.
Usually the home button you can use it on recovery mode but i can't do anything, it's like the 4 buttons don't exist, like desactived.

If the home button don't work on recovery mode, i don't think folio widget can help, foliomod 1.4/1.3 has already a folio widget and changing the value of the sensitivity didn't change anything
I think the problem is more on the boot of the folio, didn't activate the 4 buttons

bootloader is closed source.. probably needs re-designed, and we havent seen any updates of it, since their update.zip probably cannot write a new one..
i think they forgot to add support for updating it..
just like the full wipe with power button, probably also a mistake..
That what i was thinking

Hi, I bought a crashed folio just to see inside it's guts and found that those bastard buttons are a board on its own.
I'm going to reverse engineer those signal and replace them with push buttons.

i think Google figured this out for us since they invented touch buttons somehow..
Unbelievable!
The chip on the capsense board is a PIC16F722 from MicroChip!!!
PIC16F722 <--- difficult to program and too much problem on it, they use this on clone phone in China.
I sent back my Folio, i don't know if i get a new one or wait for the XOOM or iPad 2 (but don't make any sens without USB/Thunderbolt, SD card etc)
Hi guys,
I finally installed Windows 7 bootcamp on my Mac, and went away on flashing kernel to XWKDD_insecure.tar, and rooting the S2 with S2 Root app. Everything went smoothly, and I now have TB Pro with a couple of apps frozen.
However, one very noticeable change after I flash and rooted was that my Applications button is very hard to activate. I thought I had imagined it, but when I unlock via Widgetlocker slider, and tap the Applications icon on the bottom right, nothing happens with the normal pressure I am used it. To activate it, I must push down with a little force for a second or two, let go, and it will go to the application folder. Also, I have also notice that when I wake the phone, the unlock widgetlocker slider is slightly unresponsive at first, I must also apply more force, hold it for a second, and slide for the slider to work. Before I rooted (6 hours ago), I can lightly tap the application icon, or light slide the unlock slider, and it would work.
Another weird thing is also buttons on the screen works fine thus far.
Anyone have this rather weird problem? I am slightly regretting rooting the phone, because the applications icon just wouldn't budge despite multiple taps... I've tried battery pulls, etc, but the problem persists, especially right after I unlock the phone.
Any input is much appreciated!
Thank you
Did you found a solution? I have the same problem, but I don't know if it's because rooting? This is really annoying.
Same here after CF-root.
and let me add that the return touch key (below the applications icon) isn't so responsive as before rooting!
I thought I was just imagining but I am "glad" you guys having the same problem.
Looking forward for a solution.
Maybe asking Chainfire ?
Well I just installed a stock rom, same thing.
My 'back' button is very un-responsive as well. it's like I really have to hit the spot for it to react.
Am having the same issue with the back key and i am still stock non rooted

This is certainly not the first time I've heard about such complaints, infact a few friends also had this issue as well they had their phones replaced.
This may seem lame and I feel kind of dumb posting it but I cannot find a simple widget that just shuts off my g-tab. Every time I press the power switch I think about how light weight it feels and how important it is to mod the tablet. Using it everyday to start and stop the device seems like extra wear and tear for nothing. With all the other buttons virtualized, it would seem that there ought to be a simple "power off" button. My searches and subsequent downloads have turned up buttons that lock the screen, turn off wifi, show you the battery and probably display dancing hampsters but a simple "press this widget and the device powers off" has eluded me. Does anyone have one?

WARNING!!!!
Do NOT ever use the Reboot Recovery option with this app. It will very likely throw you into a bootlop that requires you to use adb to correct. Just went through that a week ago. No fun.
Greeting everyone.
I recently got an Android and I also recently decided to root and stick a custom ROM on it. Everything went fine and dandy with that and I'm currently on Cryanogen 9 Alpha ROM (it's spectacular to say the least).
On the default ROM you could choose to turn off the key lights (I'm talking about the touch keys on both sides of "the master button"). However, neither does Cryanogen 7 or 9 offer me this option and because I'm so used to it, lights seem weird and unnecessary.
So, after searching the interwebz for a while, I couldn't find anything useful and hence my post.
Thanks in advance for any help given.
Furthermore, fantastic video!
Bump! (Too few characters apparently).

This requires .bln (BackLightNotifiation) mod which isn't featured in my current ROM (Cyanogen 9).
Thanks for the input anyhow.
I would like to know this too. The keys are allways on in CM9 unfortunately
Verstuurd van mijn Galaxy S II met Tapatalk
It turns out that you can turn them off in CM7 but unfortunately I'm yet to find a fix for CM9.
you can try to modify the following script in the middle of this post to make it work in cm9

Thanks a bunch for the link.
I'll definitely give it a try when I have a bit of spare time.
EDIT: This script also requires BLN (which I talked about above) and after searching long and hard, I have found out that there is no ICS kernel with BLN support (while some others knew this, I certainly didn't).
After looking around further it seems that I/we won't get the feature for a while since BLN seems to be the only way apart from integration within the ROM (like it is within TouchWiz or CM7) that you can turn off your soft keys.
Latest build of CM9 has removed backlight!
'Tis a glorious day.

Wow, I've been looking for a way to disable the keys and while the script won't work for me messing with the settings did the job, that was my only issue so far. Cheers for the share. I'm using MIUI with siyah if anyone cares in order to make it work.
PS: games and movies look much better with no white lights :O
EDIT: Well, guess I was beat by the software had a notification during the night, and now the lights only stay off until the first time the screen gets turned off, after that they go back to their normal behaviour unless I reboot :|. On the look again for another way.
EDIT 2: Ok, I'm not giving up, for now I found yet another way for anyone interested (you need a BLN kernel however).
I installed BLN Control Pro, disabled everything and put BLN blinking: On and Led OFF time 3 minutes.
Now what I do is enter Test mode, turn the screen off and on, and now, the lights will be off for as long as I keep the program running. The only problem with this, is that BLN stops the phone from going into Deep Sleep, so I just need to remember to turn the test mode off and to disable BLN whenever I don't need the buttons off.
It's not a pretty solution but for now it's the best I could come up.
no setting for that
Greetings my fellow XDA experts,
I have a Galaxy S2 (i9100) International version on the NeatROM 4.8 ( XXLSW). What has happened is that my Softkeys are dead and unresponsive.
There is no illumination and response from them. So I have a phone without the menu and back buttons, which implies that I have a f**ked up iPhone like phone with just one Home button to function with.
I took the phone to the service center and they said it's a single piece with the display so the entire display would need to be replaced which is unreasonable and needless since the display works absolutely perfect.
So I was thinking of a remedy in terms of the ROM I use with the phone. Is there any custom ROM available for the S2 which would enable me to use a part of the display as the MENU and BACK buttons itself ? Like the Nexus 4 has ? I don't mind losing out on screen space to enable me to get those buttons back.
Please do suggest me any such ROM's or methods through which I can use the phone without having to change a fully functional touchscreen display. Spending so much just to get the Soft key functionality back is plain ridiculous and a pure manufacturing drawback from Samsung. Yuck
Anyways, please do help with any pointers.
Thanks and Cheers !

You'll be hard pressed to find a 4.2.2 ROM that doesn't have some sort of on-screen control. Do a bit of searching around on XDA of all the 4.2.2 ROMs, look at screenshots etc. Navigation bar is the same style as a Nexus 4. Pie controls are a method of on-screen control. AOKP ribbons are also for on screen control. There's probably more. Then there exist ROM's which attempt to mimic the AOSP, Nexus-style experience. Plenty to choose from.

So basically My ROM territory is now limited to any 4.2.2 AOSP/AOKP Rom's ? Do all of them have on-screen navigation?
Like the Parandroid? No more Sammy Rom's obviously.

Hmm well I imagine you could find some lower than 4.2.2 with those controls if you wanted to, but no need to if you don't want. You can use ParanoidAndroid if you want, search my posts for a link for i9100, I posted it yesterday or the day before I think. It won't be the first link you find on Google thats for sure, version 3.6 is the latest. As far as 'limited to 4.2.2 AOSP/AOKP'.... Depends how you see it. I don't see it as a 'limitation'. Start here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23231772. Go through AOKP and AOSP till you find something you like. Bear in mind that the AOKP contains waaay more than just plain AOKP, there's hybrid (combos of CM,AOKP,PA, AOSP usually) and all sorts in there.
Enable Navigation Bar in AOSP/AOKP roms etc for getting these functions back.
Alternatively if you want navigation bar in Sammy Roms you can still have them , look for soft key enabler in play store or else you can edit build.prop of your phone , there will be option of soft keys , change it from 0 to 1.
Use pimp my rom it have a option for on screen buttons (back menu and recents) so you can have any rom

S2 soft keys not working
Issue seems to be related to the usb charging receptacle. As long as a good charging cable is connected, the soft keys work. They work for a short time after unplugging and then stop working again.
