I found this over in the Nexus section. Gameloft is giving away "Let's Golf" for a limited time. Someone over in the Nexus One section uploaded the .apk because in order to get the game you needed to download/install something else. I'm not exactly sure if this is supposed to be free ONLY for Nexus users, so if it is, I guess this thread would be considered "warez" and should be closed.
Here's this .apk...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=361664&d=1279324137
Instructions...
-Install the .apk
-Enter Airplane mode (disables all data)
-Install the game and launch it (Still don't enable data)
-It will tell you to download the game's data, choose yes.
-It will ask you to download with Wifi or 3G, choose Wifi.
Works just as described. Nice find
thanks! worked perfectly
Thanks! Downloading data now.
I followed the steps and everything was downloaded. But now when I open the game it goes blank and reverts back to the homepage. Any suggestions?
*** Nevermind, I uninstalled and deleted all the downloaded files for Game Loft and reinstalled and it works like a charm. Good find!
Works like a charm! Its reminds me of one of my top "quick play" games for the PSP, Hot Shots Golf.
Awesome!! Thanks!

Put the apk file on your sdcard and open file explorer. Install the file from there.
When I try to download the link, I get an error saying its unupported file type. Unknown sources is checked. Any idea why?
Does not work for me as well. Mail screen will load, but says it's not the original version of the game, than it boots me out.
Thanks ultra spike great post. I appreciate anything free. It works like a charm.

William, follow directions exactly and you should befind. Even install and 5o back and reinstall. I had to do that cuz I wasnt in a wifi spot.follow exact directions and you will have game.
I havent downloaded anything thru the browser on the vibrant yet i just got it my self coming from the HD2 but when i had my G1 i had to have ASTRO file manager to allow me to download files from the browser.
Working perfectly for me....thanks so much for the link!!!!
Note: if you are getting the " it's not the original version of the game" message, go to your apps, uninstall it.....go back to first post and follow the directions and it'll worked perfectly
Don't have time to play it now but it installed perfectly for me. Thanks!
is this downloadable via the browser?
Update: May have went the long way in doing this but I don't have my usb cable here at work. Downloaded to my pc, changed file extension to .zip. Attached in email and sent it to my gmail account. Download to phone and save attachment using astro file manager. Changed file extension to .apk. Don't know if its going to work but the icon changed to the picture of the game so I'm guessing it may have worked.
I will see if it work when I connect to a wifi network later on today.
Update: That above method works in you are on the go and do not have a usb cable available
Works completely fine as instructions shown. Downloaded, hooked it up via USB, APK on sdcard then unmount... used ASTRO to install.. airplane, open app, choosed wifi and done.

You know you can send yourself an apk through gmail and download it through gmail in the web browser, but not the gmail app.
What ultra spikey said....
Copy link and email it to yourself.....and then open the email and link from your phone and it'll automatically download it

So, went out and picked up a Mini Pro for the misses.
Well, off the bat I went crazy cause I couldn't find "Market" and well...after searching online, guess this damn region doesn't support the Market. How wonderful is that, so downloaded stuff online through slideme. Which really still sucks.
Then when I downloaded things to my laptop and wanted to bluetooth them over, I couldn't. Then when I wanted to send ringtones from my phone to the mini pro, I couldn't. So I searched, and wouldn't you know it. I gotta download a program, so I downloaded bluetooth explorer and then it prompted me that I gotta root this SOB to be able to send files through bluetooth? Did I just buy an iPhone or what?!
So I plugged in the phone through USB. And we copied over the APK. and I downloaded a file explorer, so I could get to the damn APK (really no file explorer included, or clearly apparent?). And when we launched the file (MSN), we found we couldn't send files, images, or anything other than text. Are you kidding me?
With all these limitations, how is Android so popular?
Are there any possible solutions without having to root this bastard? (aside from MSN). I just bought this thing and don't wanna void warranty so damn early so I could make it something PRACTICAL like every other phone.
I'm guessing you're used to nokia's and the like. I must say i've found bluetooth file transfer a little hit and miss on android, but you need an app called bluetooth file transfer but it's on the market i'm afraid. Where are you then? You can get the market app from these forums and an enabler for regions not supported so you may need to do some digging.
Sent from my E10i using XDA App
Not used to Nokia's. Used to WinMo and running Android Froyo on my Topaz.
Could not find the market standalone app for the life of me. And the phone is from Saudi Arabia, and I can't justify rooting it just yet.
@bmzloum
Hi! I feel your pain. Android Marketplace is not supported in my part of the world too. I am looking for alternate ways to get apps into my phone.
You mentioned that you had to download a separate File Manager to get to the .apk files. Can you tell me which app you are using?
Also how did you manage to install the File Manager in the first place if you could not get to the .apk files?
Do you copy the .apk files to your MicroSD card? Do you any other advice to make installation easier if we download the Apps to our computer then then try to install them to our phone?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers and good luck with your new phone.
Appbrain App Market and Apktor are viable alternatives for getting apps on your phone, the latter you'll need to find public repositories for. Sorry can't post links cause of restrictions on a new account, but google knows all.

Hey, found
Code:
http://slideme.org/
which let me download with the barcode, and then I installed the sites app manager directly on there. There are a ton of file managers, I downloaded two, I forget which. But the two most popular ones. Both worked, but only one handled ZIP files. I don't have the phone beside me, so can't recall...
I found the Market standalone apk, but it crashed everytime I clicked on "Download" so I gave up on it.
I'm gonna try those suggestions posted up and see if they have a few new nice apps on there.
I had the exact same issue as others above. My solution was to use the debranded UK Firmware, root the phone and then use the Bluetooth File Manager.
bmazloum: My phone also came from the UAE side and didn't have the Market. I used Omnius to flash the firmware. A friend of mine on the otherhand paid the local Sony Service Centre to flash and debrand the ROM. Maybe this might help
Guys you don't have to move the apk file over to the phone in order to install it btw... get Adb from the Android SDK and then place the apk file in the same folder as adb.
And then from command prompt, navigate to the folder with adb and your apk and type "adb install example.apk".
Make sure you have USB Debugging (Applications -> Development) enabled and that's it.
Works nicely on a Mini. Not sure about the Pro to be honest.
Ok, I've side-loaded a generic .APK file, into a sub-dir within the 1.0-GB
area. (Previously, I likewise side-loaded a movie file into this same area, and it plays great.)
As I read other posts asking this same type of question about procedures/rules
for installing side-loaded apps, I'm not yet clear on a few things, such as
whether I need to be 'rooted' to install them and whether I first need to
purchase/install separate SD-card and load such generic apps there instead.
My current state is:
(1) My Nook tablet is still at 1.4.0 (i.e. I have NOT yet received the 1.4.1
update that blocks installation of such APKs.)
(2) My NT is NOT yet rooted.
When I view/select the side-loaded generic app, see a red question-mark on the file, and tappin it, I get msg:
"This nook cannot read this file. It may be an unsupported format."
So, what should I try next, to allow this file-type of .APK to be
a supported type?
Is this your first non-B&N apk? If so, I believe you have to download and install at least one apk directly through the Tablet's browser to get the option changed to allow sideloaded apks.

Well, it WAS my first non-B/N app.
So, I installed an app, one named 'Skitch', from the BN app store.
But, that makes no difference at all...my original side-loaded APK file
still gives the same error msg that I mentioned in the base post.
So, your 'belief' seems to be incorrect.
Anyone else know what to do, to install side-loaded .APK files?
[This issue could end up being one more nail in the coffin...if I don't resolve this,
I'll have to strongly consider returning this device, and waiting for a 'true' Android
tablet this spring, with newer, more main-stream code (e.g. 'Ice Cream Sandwich')
in it.]
Hi cookdav,
CapsLockKey is correct about needing to download an apk through the browser in order to do what you would like.
I noticed this yesterday after playing with my NT for the first time. When you download an apk through the browser you will see a notification in the lower left hand corner that it is complete. You have to launch the apk from this notification in order for the file to be correctly recognized.
When I went to my downloaded files and tried clicking the apk file I got the same message you are seeing. It seems to me that the BN overlay does not natively recognize the apk file format, but the code responsible for the notifications does.
You should then be able to follow the directions for enabling ADB. After that you can use adb to install any apk file you would like.
I hope this helps and that it was clear.

What does installing an app from the B&N app store have to do with side loading an app from the browser or email? Have you bothered to read the "how to side load apps thread?"
How you can fix your face to say "your 'belief' seems to be incorrect." when you aren't following instructions is funny as hell.

The operative word there is 'seems'.
And, yes, I did read that thread, but obviously now, I missed something.
I guess I missed the distinction, between installing an app via 'shop'
and installing an app via the browser. So, shoot me.
[That said, I'm still a bit confused. But, reading-between-the-lines has always
been problematic for some of us newbies.
I'll go back and re-read everything 3 times again,
and I'm sure that these distinctions will eventually become clear to me.]
Thanks for clarifying.
Ok, did one thru the browser, but still no-go...
Ok. I installed 'golauncher', via the browser.
Sigh. But, once again, after that, when I go back and try to install
the earlier-mentioned .APK, it still says what it has been saying all along.
Hmm..a new possibility has occurred to me: Maybe I'm so immersed in
Linux and Windows-XP and Win-7, that that has made me too stupid
to follow directions and learn this new 'tablet-way' of doing things.
[Whoever said "The devil is in the details" must have been an Android user.]
Clearly, I've STILL missed something, after re-reading. Anyone got
any more ideas/guesses of what I might still be missing?
"this nook cannot read this file" although I do sideload apks
I got a similar problem with Nook Tablet wit 1.4.0
I have managed to download an app so that my settings have been changed to accept those apps
If i go to another app market, I do install apps.
But for some reason I am limited (Amazon Apps refuses to work because I am not in the US and others have limitations which I dont understand, as on a chinese android pc they work, however)
SO I d like to install from sd card
And i get this message "this nook cannot read this file"
If I mail to gmail, in nook mail I cant open attachment (nor any others)
Any workaround?
Thanks
Agnes

I don't think you can install apk's through the native file browser. You will need a different file browser to install your apk's.
if you are downloading directly from the internet browser, then the installation process is the same as installing the tgps launcher or in your case go launcher.
However, if you are sideloading your apk's through something like dropbox or an sd card, you will need a file browser.
I recommend Root Explorer (paid), but if you need a free one you can download es file explorer.
es file explorer can be found in the must have apps thread located in the themes and apps section of the NT forums. Just go to that page on your NT internet browser and click the download link. You will be redirected to a download page, and there should be something that says "remove this frame". Tap on that and your download should start.
hope this helps
Does anyone have the file to enable MP3 recording for the TapeMachine Android APP?
I bought the full version but unfortunately the mp3 codec was offered free under a download link outside of the Android Market. As a result, once the company went out of business, I can no longer download the plug-in.
Does anyone still have this file?
Edit:
File can be found here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62403106&postcount=13
found: http://multiupload.com/8UWYNTQSUT
this is free software that only works with the fully licensed version of TapeMachine Android App.
File Name: tapemachine-mpeg-codec-r1.zip
the TapeMachine's website is working again , so you can download the mp3 codec using the Tapemachine software
Sorry for pushing such an old thread but http://tapemachine.samalyse.com/ seems down again. Does anybody would provide the mp3 codec pack?
Thanks alot in advance!

It's been down for a couple weeks now. Not looking good, but for someone has the zip handy because I could use it too.

Thanks for posting the link to the files, however, I cannot find any way of installing the codecs and making Tapemachine app work with mp3s. There doesn't seem to be any instructions on the internet for this. Is it possible to install the codecs without rooting your phone ?
If anyone could reply here with instructions, would really help.

Just select the zip with your file browser (I'm using total commander) and choose "open with" (or something like this), then there should be appear "TapeMachine - Codecs". TapeMachine should install the codecs then. In Settings of TapeMachine you can choose mp3 as codec. Hope I could help!
I'm bummed, both of the links are no good anymore. Does anybody still have this file?
The multiupload link wants to install software, and the dropbox link gives a cute 404 error.
Thanks if you got it...

man, i wish this would work. the ZIP doesn't open with TapeMachine and no "TapeMachine - Codecs" appears. i found /storage/emulated/0/.tapemachine/cache/codec/ but nothing i do there works. i can't believe i accidentally deleted TapeMachine and now MP3 is completely hosed!

Hi,
I've just tried to import the codec again and it worked perfectly (both my local archived zip and the uploaded zip here). Just download the file with your mobile, choose "open with" in your file manager and there should appear a program "TapeMachine - Codecs" whichs imports the zip.
got it!
thank you for confirming! i had moved the zip to my device from a desktop download, but when i used the DL link from the device, it worked without opening a file manager at all. :good:
The website has been down for a few months now, not sure if the Samalyse went out of business. There is no way to authorize the MP3 codec without his server up and running. The tape machine I purchased two years ago still works fine in my old phone, However, in my Samsung note 4 is another story. You can still download the app from the market but it does not allow one to upgrade. Really a shame! There is nothing better outhere. Keep our finger crossed. I hope he is okay. I corresponded with him when he first created the app and had a very nice experience. His company is located in Paris, France

I have the file you're requesting also, but to install it, it will ask you for your original 8 character code. After you enter it, it will try to connect to the server to validate the code. If the server is down you can't do nothing.
Sorry.

I have a song I have to learn for band practice tomorrow because I'm a horrible procrastinator, and I just wanted to say thanks for this link. This is the only place on the internet that I was able to successfully find and install the codec.
To answer your question...
Tap the zip on your phone to open it and TapeMachine should be an available option for opening it. If it's not then you will need to uninstall whatever you normally use for zips and try again. The app should open the zip and install the codec without much issue.
hi folks does anyone know how to change the default folder to the external card on marshmallow with this fantastic app? having no luck so far.
Me too. Tapemachine seems not to be able to read or write sd card i perfectly use with camera app i.e.

Publisher is Microsoft corporation, so it is safe to say they do stuff that is unavailable to the user.
PS: this should be removed. You can download and open any appx/xap from the marketplace. Nice copyright protection there.
I believe these xap must be like normal zip files that we download similar to the pc deployment method but I found that these xaps are also encrypted. That's sad

@titi66200: Pretty sure you can access the on-phone Downloads folder via MTP (I forget though, it's been a while since I had to make do with "official" MTP access). You can definitely access it with an on-device file browser like Aerize Explorer. Maybe the MTPTransferredAppProcessorDropFolder subfolder is hidden or something, though...?
Yes MTPTransferredAppProcessorDropFolder is hiden, on my 830 access via mtp is ok.
But no MTP on my 1020
@mcosmin222: They aren't encrypted *on the store*. That's no a feature, bug, or hack of the tool; that just "MS didn't bother to encrypt APPX". You can download (unencrypted!) APPX bundles straight from http://www.windowsphone.com/. Here's a random example, right off the page for the currently-first app in the spotlight list: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/s...f6-4262-a3c7-1b9565d5d7b4/xap?apptype=regular Despite the URL implying it's a XAP, it's actually a .appxbundle file. Open that as a ZIP archive, and you'll find a few (plaintext) XML files and a bunch of (unencrypted) .APPX files. Open one of *them* as a ZIP, and you'll find a bunch of plaintext metadata files and plaintext binaries.
I'm as anti-piracy as anybody on this forum, but MS isn't even *trying* to secure these files. You can download them, unauthenticated, unencrypted, straight off the world wide web.
Yeah, I'm going to close this thread. Much shady happenings here.
