Forgive me for my noob question but... I haven't tried any GSI rom before , are all things working etc?
I doubt GSI will be fully functional in any case, seems generic/experimental/for developers.
is there any actual development going on, like Lineage? Any leads to them to know?
Or are we stuck with MIUI for a while?
On Xiaomi.eu roms, is it possible to bypass GAPPS and install something like MicroG? Can it be Rooted and functioning just as a custom rom, although MIUI?

it's a great phone, for me the only choices are MI 10 and oneplus 7/8 right now, I wonder why there's no development at all
There is a wiki for the gsi.
https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/wiki/Xiaomi-Mi-10
I know there is some movement on an aosp ROM.
LR team twrp is functioning with option to install root. Safety net is now a bigger issue with Google enabling hardware attestation.
You can then install edexposed and miui customiser to customise miui.
There is an Android 11 aosp beta ROM released by Xiaomi.
You can uninstall apps via ADB on bootloader locked miui ROMs.
You need to get on the telegram mi 10 group..

Hello, I have just bought a Mi Pad 4; when it arrived, I immediately requested bootloader unlock and now i am waiting (290 hours left)...
In the meanwhile, I was searching which rom could I install for this device, I am an italian user so i was thinking to install stable MIUI 10 from MIUI.it, instead of the stable from xiaomi.eu because it is surely well translated and it is smaller then the EU rom, but I did not understand the bootloader and recovery thing.
Apparently if I install xiaomi.eu rom with their TWRP, i will also install a custom bootloader that could lead to problems if i want to install MIUI.it rom afterwards, so my question is if there are there problems with the stable MIUI10 of MIUI.it + MIUI.it TWRP, is it stable enough for daily use or it's better the xiaomi.eu version + their TWRP?
I recommend 8.1 based Mokee rom.
That's the most stable at the moment for me, far better than MIUI based roms.

Thank you for the advice, but for now I am appreciating a lot the MIUI 10 interface and its usability, so I would like to use this for now, but in the future I will surely try Mokee rom
I have found the answer for my questions: when I install the italian MIUI, if i encounter problems with it, i can switch to xiaomi.eu flashing the stock chinese stable rom with the tool called MiFlash, after that I can install xiaomi.eu rom with TWRP;
but if i want to install an AOSP rom, I can install it over every MIUI version obviously wiping data, cache and dalvik-cache of the previous rom through TWRP.
Another italian here guys...if you want I tried the HavocOS (it's the only one that has "official" support like Mokee, it's Android Pie with some custom settings) and except for navbar gestures that didn't work in landscape I didn't find any bug!

Yes, I have also seen this ROM and the reviews under the post are good, anyway for now I will install the MIUI 10 of MIUI.it (some other day and the bootloader will be unlocked), then surely I will try also some rom AOSP-based in the future
Hey guys, do anyone of you got any idea when will we get the first custom rom for our device? It's quite some time and I have seen no news about it. Mi11x/Redmi K40 on the other hand has plenty of good custom roms already. Our twrp is also not a stable one and it makes me worried about the future of our devices.

I hope the same. I bought the K40 Pro because it thought it would be more popular than the K40 without SD888. That was the case with the K20 and K20 pro. But now i haven't seen any custom AOSP roms yet... I tried the Miui EU rom for some time but i really don't like it so i switched back to my old phone. Hope there will be a custom AOSP ROM soon.

I hope so too! Btw what exactly didn't you like on the miui eu rom? Here I was actually thinking about shifting from china rom to latest stable eu rom.
Third party is still possible, it needs a long time to wait, obviously Google takes back the authority in Android 11 ~ Android 12! At present, I still don't use the TWTP tool. I choose the FastBoot card brush to switch to the line brush. It's safe and reliable. The internal test 12.6.16 startup animation of the twrp card brush is very slow, which will seriously damage the internal partition and data!
Miui12.5 is getting worse and worse, and developers and manufacturers are more and more disrespectful to users. I am struggling in this endless advertising
not xiaomi eu, asking about evolution, resurrection remix, pixel experience etc
use unofficial Pixel Experience Plus gsi

I bought K40 Pro rather than K40 for the same reason, but the opposite is true. I really dislike miui because of the ubiquitous ads, the distracting and pointless news, and the music player and video player that can't be uninstalled or even deactivated, which force you to become a paid member with super bad experiences.

First of all, I'm really sorry if this thread would turn out to be a dumb enquiry. I am new to intrinsically customising my phone and only have been using this device (Redmi Note 9S EEA Curtana, MIUI Global V11.0.4.0. QJWEUXM 4/64 GB) for 10 days. I've successfully installed root and TWRP on my phone after having thoroughly researched relevant information. The only thing is all my efforts regarding the removal of force encryption have so far failed. I'm inclined to install a custom ROM, e. g. LineageOs or Evolution X.
1. Is it a necessity to have encryption permanently disabled so that the flashing process proves viable? Currently, I'm only aware of a method which has its effect limited to the the period the phone is in recovery. It involves formatting data and then installing Magisk and thus I need to go through the set-up again. At the end of the operation, encryption is enabled again. I have no clue why. I've tested loads of no verity opt files, none of them worked in a proper way either.
2.Will installing a custom ROM eliminate root acces (since it performs a reinstallation targeting the entire system, let alone the patched boot image)?
3. In case something goes wrong, what's the correct procedure to return to the factory ROM? Is re-locking the bootloader a prerequisite? (See this guide https://c.mi.com/uk/miuidownload/detail?guide=2, for example. Notice how each of the stable MIUI releases there are marked with ★ next to them, meaning they're locked. I didn't quite grasp the message they were trying to convey with that explanation though.)
I'm conscious that's a lot to ask in a single thread, however, unlike myself, the majority of users here are supposedly tech enthusiast and probably have encountered similar difficulties on several occasions.
I hope that I've provided enough information and the thread has been named reasonably.
(Priority: detailed answers within a month would be great.)
Cheers,
Hsjaai
Just format data: twrp->wipe->format data write yes->reboot twrp and flash rom.
If you got error(red lignes reboot twrp and format again).
or
delete all your lockscreen security before flashing but to install a new rom you must format the data before.
Thanks for your quick response, honestly I didn't expect anyone to be this early to react.
As I've already mentioned, in TWRP there's a workaround for temporarily disabling encryption using the first method, the latter one doesn't seem to function as intended - that may be the case on newer devices, according to an article I've come across.
One last request. Could you please (briefly) answer my two other questions as well? How do I reinstall MIUI if something breaks down? Is the flashing apparatus provided by Xiaomi reliable?
I'll keep you updated on my progress,
Hsjaai

Thank you so much once again for the help. What should I do if the worst-case scenario arised -essential parts of the file system got corrupted so that the phone wouldn't be capable of booting into system? Uninstall magisk via zip and then make use of the fastboot tool?

With Magisk app
I'm still unsure about something. Will the custom ROM be installed without hassle if I unroot Magisk at the beginning (meanwhile leaving the custom recovery intact, of course)? No guide seems to deem having root installed as a prerequisite. If you answer that, I'm really embarking on the flashing process.

Installing a custom rom (aosp or Miui) requires a data format (erases all data and creates a new partitions if necessary) which will remove root anyway, but sometimes root + twrp creates problems (can't mout the partitions) it is therefore to avoid this that I recommend you to unroot before.
In all cases (Aosp or custom Miui) magisk is installed last.
Which ROM do you want to install?
I'd like to install LineageOS first and see how compatible it is.

The installation of these should only differ (on a particular device) in the ROM that's being flashed az a zip, right?
For instance, see this guide. Could that be deemed to be applicable to any custom ROM?

Be sure you have the right firmware.
If not flash it.
1)Twrp wipe format data write yes reboot twrp(if error reboot twrp and format again).
2)flash rom
3)reboot system
v11.0.4.0. QJWEUXM is a turkish rom(android 10)
V12.0.2.0.RJWMIXM is a global rom(android 11)Firmware base for AOSP
It is better to use Miflash and install TWrp after.(dont relock the bootloader).
Are you sure v11.0.4.0. QJWEUXM is the Turkish version? I thought it was EEA (the one tweaked for European countries). Installing the Global version seems alright, but why does the MIUI version has such a great effect on the outcome of the flashing?
Is that because both Cherish OS and the Global version are AOSP-based?

Hi. For haydn. I really want a custom ROM and specifically LineageOS was ideal for me, I want something of decent privacy and free of both Chinese and Google stuff. Unfortunately this phone has the worst ROM support I have seen for any phone and no supported ROM exists. The only alternative is the Chinese ROM, which I absolutely refuse to use.
So I thought if there was ANY way to install unofficially LineageOS on my phone. I don't know of it's being developed or if I can grab an specific build and unofficially install it, bout I would love to have it on my phone. Or if I could build it for 11i, but I have 0 coding knowledge.
Many thanks in advance.

I looked around real quick and apparently flashing the LineageOS rom first, and then flashing it again removes Gapps?
Or installing Gapps over LineageOS should also uninstall them.
So it should be possible, but you might wanna look into it for further details.

true that (about the rom support) but you have to know that if you plan to buy a phone and put a rom afterwards you have to do some kind of research on XDA in order to see if there is a strong rom community. For this reason it's always better to buy a last year's phone that has already establised rom community. For the time being the best thing you can do is to remove all the bloat apps via ADB.
...like Pixel Experience. Evolution etc,.

idk loll. I want the ROM for daily use but GSIs are all not that stable. I have already flashed the global version of the Realme UI and I can use some Google services. However, it is working not that well in the United States (many services are not permitted here).
