I'm trying to set Nova Launcher on my Mum's Huawei Mediapad T3 (10-inch), but can't find the option to do it. The Apps section in Settings no longer has a "Default apps" option (the firmware was updated a couple of weeks ago).
Is there an easy way of changing this?

OK, this is simply bizarre. On my Mate 10 ALP-L29 8.0.0.119 (C636) I cannot get any browser (I've tried Chrome and Firefox) to save a particular URL/Page to my Homescreen. I've tried it with the default Huawei launcher, and also using Nova and Apex. I make the normal request within the browser to save the page to my homescreen, and then it acts like it's saving, but then there's nothing added to my homescreen!?!
I've got to think I've got some setting somewhere messed up, but can someone simply confirm that they can do this basic action on their Mate 10 and, if so, using which launcher and browser? If I know it can be done, then it's easier to figure out! Thanks.
Edit: once I uninstalled the third-party launchers, I could create an Url homescreen shortcut with Huawei Home. But no love yet for either Nova (which also doesn't work yet with dynamic calendar icons) or Apex (which does).
Continued researching and sort of solved my own problem. This is apparently a known flaw of Oreo with most launchers (although not with Huawei Home, to their credit). There's a beta of Pixel Launcher that solves it, but I can't say I love that launcher. Instead, my workaround was a 2011 app, called Url Shortcut (by KebabApps), still available in the Play store. It has no UI, but when you long-press on your homescreen to add a shortcut (not a widget), it gives you a 1x1 shortcut where you can manually enter the web url and the title you want under the icon. And it works, although you will then need to edit the icon image to your liking.
Hi All,
Just recently got the Mate 20 Pro and I am really enjoying it!
One disappointment is that my previous phone (P20 Pro) had an option to randomly change the wallpaper, like from my camera gallery pictures. This is was my favourite feature! This option does not seem to be available in the Mate 20 pro, except for a "Magazine" feature for the lock screen. This is, obviously, not the same.
Does any one know if this is a bug or if it is hidden in a different menu?
Thanks
Chris
Can't find it too on my phone shipped with a French ROM.
I started to use "Wallpaper Changer" application from the store instead.
Like the title says, it seems some sites are now offering BL unlock codes for the Mate 20 Pro. Can my LYA-AL10 (I *think* it's the Chinese version) be unlocked and rooted?
Also, if I root my phone, will I be able to perform the below tasks?
- set default launcher to Nova Launcher instead of EMUI
- flash a custom rom from the dev section
- Have face unlock work for logging into websites etc...?
I have the same phone and can run Nova without issue.
What roms in Dev section?
I'm using Nova launcher with all my devices since 2012.
With Mate 20 Pro I have 2 issues and I can't understand if they are Nova launcher related or they are EMUI/Huawei's issue.
1) Whenever I unplug the device either the homescreen or lockscreen wallpaper changes to default, and
2) after unplugging the device I can't use Google companion page. I have to run Nova settings, tap Integrations and then Nova Google Companion option. After that Google Companion page is activated.
I have to do this every time I unplug the device!!!!

Just recently got a Mate 20 pro and it surprised me Nova installed(w/ companion app) without a single issue. I normally run Rootless launcher but that wouldnt run. I did nothing special. Hopefully you guys figure it out.
I did own a Mate 20 and Mate 20x when they all first released and had nothing but issues then with nova.

How...? That's strange because the option to change default launcher to Nova Launcher is not there where it's supposed to be. And yes I do have Nova Launcher installed. That's really strange especially if you're using the same phone. Maybe different software versions?
As for the ROM, I believe there's only 1 or 2, so not many choices, but it's better than what I have now (A lot of "Hi-" apps that show irrelevant Chinese apps, inability to change default launcher, etc....)
It's a shame because the hardware is the best I've ever used, I've never found a phone I've liked better than this
Hi,
On the EMUI 9, I bet there's some of you who wanted to have properly functioning recent apps through gesture navigation when using any custom launcher. And I bet you resolved this issue by disabling/uninstalling the stock launcher through adb. On the EMUI 9 it used to revert back to EMUI 8 style recent apps.
But on the EMUI 10, if you disable or uninstall the stock launcher, the recent apps WON'T EVEN SHOW UP.
Has anyone else had this issue?
PS: I'm using Mate 20, but from what I've seen, there's more traffic on the Pro version forums, and this case is mutual for both versions. That's why I posted it here.
Hello,
the same for Honor View20. I found no solution
Same issue. I'm going to try reversing these steps but don't know that I have a copy of the launcher.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-20-pro/themes/how-to-enable-android-oreo-style-t3864229
This fixed it for me:
Code:
adb shell cmd package install-existing com.huawei.android.launcher
If you're using gestures you'll just need to reboot before they work with apps and third party launchers.
On my Nova 5T I also lost Recents (and swipe up for home). I solved my issues with Fluid Navigation Gestures and Swiftly.
I now have sort of "Tap for Recents" in the middle of my Nova dock on home screen AND also in every other app.
Same issue with no resolution
I have the same issue on Honor 8X I uninstalled the Home EMUI 10 as it was annoying me every hour with "Smart recovery issue" I was using Nova launcher and Microsoft launcher.
Now after uninstalling the recent button is not working. Please anyone to support.
you can reslove this issue disappeared recent app by
setting>system&update>reset>reset all settings
Hi to fix this issue I had to use adb to reinstall the huawei launcher
look at this post https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=81163467&postcount=24
Hi, same issue here.
But I hope there is another solution instead of reenable huawei home launcher. Because I want to have the vertical apps, not horizontal.
Does anyone have an idea how to get vertical app switch back?
EDIT: I did a rollback to EMUI 9.1
Tanix TX6S - Please turn off the" Don't keep activities "option in developer options!
Tanix TX6S H616 Android 10:
widget of the apps.: DOES NOT work. When configuring - without success - a widget, the message (tosted) returns: “Please turn off the" Don't keep activities "option in developer options.”
I checked that in the developer options this option is OFF by default.
Android 10 implemented on Tanix TX6S does not allow the use of widgets.
Any tips?
Tks.

I'm not 100% certain but other launchers maybe might allow widgets. I get the feeling you've tried this already in which case you know better than me.
if you haven't tried this yet, FREEZE the current launcher, don't uninstall it. and try something like NOVA.
@3mel.
For some time now, I froze Alice UX and use the SQUARE Home Launcher. The SQUARE Home launcher, in my opinion, is the best launcher for Android TV Box (AOSP).
I believe that the blocking of the widget and other functions is ANDROID 10 implemented in TX6S (and clones).
Other Launchers:
SMART Launcher. I managed to place the widgets, but it is not possible to configure the widgets (frozen).
NOVA Launcher: Not possible.
APEX Launcher: Not possible.
I think I already asked you this:
1) You have a TX6S, correct?
1) Do you use Amazon Prime Video?
Tks.
@webipsum, no I have a Yagala T95. it has the same SoC (Allwinner H616).
I don't use Amazon but I've seen other users of my box say Amazon and Netflix does not work for them.
