Sometimes my FOD stops working. After I remove screen protector it works again. Than I install new screen protector and it works for few days, than it stops work. Why? How to fix it?
delete your fod and create again after you put the screen protector
if you have night profile for display will not work during night hours
report these bugs to xiaomi trash and see if they resolve the trash phone, if not throw it in the trashcan

Glass screen protector can be causing this due to physical properties - it acts as a light waveguide and can interfere with optical fingerprint sensor. I didn't observe any issues with thin foil screen protectors, but they are way less resistant, so I stopped using them whatsoever with no consequence, bare glass is hard enough to withstand normal usage.

Hi Xperia Active owners!
Anyone of you, who has removed the factory mounted screen protector? If so, do you have any scratches in the glass?
Best regards.

And why would one do that?
For example, if the screen protector itself has scratches and doesn't look nice anymore.
Good question, I having trouble taking my factory mounted screen protector off to replace it. Any ideas?
I removed mine after the phone fell screen first from my Bike handlebars on the sharp cut-off ends of another handlebar lying on the floor. The scratches were quite severe and i was totally shocked but luckily the glass itself was perfectly fine. I did buy a replacement protector but was too lazy to put it on. Meanwhile i don't think i need one anymore. My active has had some additional falls to the ground while i was running and the screen is still perfect.
Regarding you troubles removing them, yes it sticks very well but it can be removed from the bottom where the cut-outs for the mic are.

I removed my original screen protector also, becouse of the scratches.
But seems that now I can't use touch screen under water or with wet fingers.
Before, with original screen protector, it work under water with no problem, but now the it looks like screen does not detect the touch on screen with wet fingers.
Had anyone similar problems when removed the original screen protector and replaced it with replacement.
Does anyone know where can I get the original screen protector?
Got a CrazyonDigital matte screen protector from amazon (sorry not able to post urls yet - product title is "CrazyOnDigital Screen Protector Film Matte (Anti-Glare) for Sprint HTC Evo 4G LTE One (3-pack)
by CrazyOnDigital")
First issue I had with it was that the size did not match perfectly with the screen size on the e4glte. The edges and the bottom corners of the screen were left open.
The biggest letdown however, was the fact that it was interfering with the proximity sensor on the phone (no cut-out on the screen protector). At first I started noticing intermittent problems with the screen not coming on during calls, and strangely a reboot seemed to fix these issues, so for a while I was unsure if it was a problem with my phone or the screen protector. Today though, I was able to consistently replicate the problem, then took the screen protector off, and voila! no issues with the proximity sensor on several tests.
I really liked the matte finish on this screen protector and it did not seem to affect touch sensitivity at all. What other high quality brands are out there with a similar finish, and of course one that does not interfere with the proximity sensor, that you all would recommend?
Thanks!
Hi there, my daughter's 2 weeks old Mi A3 with 3 fingerprints saved has started to be very inaccurate in detecting and unlocking the phone.
When the phone was just out of the box, the fp unlocking was 100% accurate.
Subsequently she had a tempered glass screen protector put on but after putting it on the fp was still accurate only started to give problem since last night.
Has anyone encounter this issue before?
I'm thinking it could be the screen protector but my daughter prefer having the screen protector and using face unlock instead of doing away with the screen protector.
Thanks
I have similar experience with tempered glass protector. I believe it's caused by additional refractive and reflective layer over the display. Under certain light conditions I almost couldn't unlock the phone with FP. Re-registering finerprints helped to some extent, but eventually I've just switched to soft TPU protector (called hydrogel these days). Not the same level of protection, but it's almost invisible and doesn't interfere with FP sensor.
I think it's software fail, the unlock is inaccurate, but if I use a third part app (like my bank app), the unlock Is fast and accurate.
I installed a tempered glass protector thingy last night. I deleted all my fingerprints, and rescanned them. Nothing. Didn't work.
The culprit? Ambient light (you know the one that turns your screen warmer for night time, that one).
I tried again this morning , scanned two fingers and it works like a charm .
Ah, yes. I had to disable Night Light. When it's on scanner is random
Since I removed glass protector, FP works fine also with Night light. With the extra glass layer it was more hit or miss. It was a cheapo protector with exposed edges, maybe with more expensive edge-to-edge ones it won't make such a difference.
Thanks for all the updates.
I have dialled down the intensity to slightly more than 1/2 of the scale and fp still working!!
I do prefer the nightlight function to reduce the level of blue light.
Note: I have edited the subject line to reflect the latest data I have. See post #3 below. It appears that the Tocol screen protector, which many reviews said does not interfere with the fingerprint reader, is the actual culprit
===============================
Downloaded the December update, installed smoothly and I see ZERO improvement in the fingerprint reader success rate. Same symptoms as pre update - the left finger work reasonably well, but the right finger fails massively. Most of the time I just run out of tries and have to enter the PIN to unlock. I have tried defining multiple times, focussing on different areas of the finger, trying to trigger with a full overlap or edge touch, etc. Nothing works consistently. For example, I can get the fingerprint reader to trigger and unlock with the finger placed down a certain way, then I lock the phone and try to place the finger as much as possible in the same location and reader will fail repeatedly.
What gives? This is with the Tocol screen protectors that supposedly do not interfere with fingerprint operation. I am coming to the Pixel 6 from the OP7T where the optical reader works very very well, so there is nothing wrong with my right fingerprint per se. Any suggestions? Have tried this with both low and high touch sensitivity, which should have nothing to do with the optical sensor.
Very disappointed with this phone so far. There are so many people here who report no issues, so I am wondering if there is a hardware sample variation?

That's weird. Mine works great after the mid November update. Did you remove and added the fingerprints again?
Yes, multiple times. I finally decided to pull off the Tocol screen protector and things started working . So much for hundreds of reviews on Amazon stating that it is one of the few that does not interfere with the fingerprint reader.
Anyone has suggestions about screen protectors that do not interfere with the Pixel 6 fingerprint reader? I am very rough on my phones and without a screen protector the screen will be all dinged up by keys or other things in my pockets within weeks.

Im using the URSOQ one from Amazon. Works great so far
Here is a list of "approved" screen protectors
Google lists Pixel 7 and 6 screen protectors certified to work with fingerprint sensor
Google has a list of certified brands that make screen protectors for Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, and 7 Pro's under-display fingerprint sensor...
9to5google.com
The Otterbox one can be ordered from Best Buy with free shipping and 5 day delivery.
I have a Mr. Shield tempered glass glass protector and the fingerprint sensor works reasonbly well. Making sure your skin is not dry is very helpful.
im using a Spigen screen protector. I did turn on the extra sensitivity setting but ended up turning it off as it was too sensitive.
My FPR works BUT its no better than before being honest...

Do screen protectors actually work as advertised? I used to always have one on and more often than not they cracked at the slightest drop or event. Then I finally said I'm not spending another dime on them since my phone was about ready for an upgrade anyway within 6 months. Sure enough I dropped it a couple of times without a scratch. I never got another one and it's been at least 3 years. Now with FPR an issue perhaps it's not worth it? Just my opinion no need to flame. Are there any studies about the usefulness of them?
I am more concerned about scratches to the screen as hopefully my case protects the screen when dropped. Having said that I have only had a screen protector crack once. I had dropped the phone 4' on concrete. Protector cracked, screen fine.
Back in the day I used foils to protect against scratches.
Nowerdays we use glass protectors on all our phones.
And as my daughter and wife had several impact cracks, I came to the conclusion or illusion, protectors seem to have saved a couple of displays. Sometimes the cracks in the protectors looked like spiderwebs. I am pretty shure thes incidents would have definitely killed display glass.
Totally comes down to personal choice. Some people drop there phones a lot. Some don't.
For me, I'm historically a non dropper but i occasionally put my phone in my pocket and forget there is a key or something else already in there. Thats been the time where I've scratched my screen.

@phupton Yeah I get it and I was in that camp for a long time. But I wonder if the screen would have cracked or that the protector is so fragile it breaks way sooner than the screen would. That's why I'd love to see some studies. As for scratches that's another story of which I'm not sure. I never place my phone in a pocket with anything in it, be it my jeans, sweats, jacket or laptop bag. It's even rare I have a tissue in one of those pockets. So scratches are a non issue for me. (fingers crossed so I don't jinx it) lol

I'd consider me as a non dropper as well.
And then there was this one day when I forgot about my phone in a suit jacket pocket, put my jacket over a stair railing and my brand new Pixel made its way 2 floors down with a couple of smashing concrete and metal hits in between.
It not only survived, it was flawless. I don't know if the protective glass played a role. Still gave me peace of mind.
It's a similar argument to if you should use a 'clear' filter on a DSLR lens to help protect the lens from scratches
+ When you clean it, you are only risking scratches on the filter, which is relatively cheap to replace
+ It 'feels' you are protecting the lens
+ It also keeps fingermarks and liquids away from the lens
+ It's actually probably easier to clean, being flat
- The filter can make optical reflections and other artifacts worse
- The coatings on the front lens element (the one that's exposed) tend to be very tough anyway
- If the filter gets hit hard enough to break it, shards of glass from it may hit and damage the lens anyway
So just like with screen protectors - pros and cons and personal preferences. No absolute good or bad....
I'm a Nikon and non filter kind of guy.
Looks we are making good progress OT-ing.

Had not tried this specifically but had tried putting a bit of saliva on my fingertips and then wiping them off. Will keep that in mind when the new screen protector arrives. Without a protector the FPR is working great, but knowing myself I am going to scratch the screen with keys or something else within a week of running "naked".
With respect to the protector discussion - I agree that protectors have close to zero benefit when it comes to drops. But I am using them because I am not very careful with my stuff and tend to scratch screens and lenses with keys, letting them slosh around in a pocket on the dashboard of the Jeep, etc. I am running a Spigen Liquid Air case which I have used for many years with many different phones and the design seems to be good enough to protect against drops.
I think you need new fingers.
I use this screen protector fingerprint works great for me. Also it feels a lot like glass in use. Easy installation as well.
Amazon.com
Whats funny is I bought a similar one from rhinoshield that was more expensive and this one works way better. Fingerprint performance was bad with the rhinoshield one. This one works perfect every time.
I'm using whatever tempered glass protector came with my case, my single fingerprint has worked just fine since the November update.

Hi, does anyone else experience a fingerprint reading issue with a glass-based screen protector?
I've tried 2 versions already (with camera hole and without), and with both of them unlocking the phone using a fingerprint is far from working smoothly.
I've tried to re-add the fingerprint and enable the touch sensitivity, but the result is the same.
I'd before a silicon-based protector which used to work perfectly, but I don't like this type of protector.

Ultrasonic FP sensor does not work with glass protector, not perfectly. Use plastic ones, or UV glue (like whitestone dome). I decided to go without protection, obviosly the best solution...until the first crack or scratch.

Thanks for the detailed information. I'd a silicon one but it got scratched very quickly.
I will search for alternatives!

delete your fp
add fprints again after new screen protector placed
( i made with mine, just press a little more when you're setting new fp )
Try amFilm Hybrid. Its half plastic half glass and it works flawlessly. Been using since day one, no issues with FP.

Tried that already, indeed it works better when I'm hard-pressing my fp but this kind of experience is not what I've hoped for.
Literally, I really thought that an under-the-screen detector is the best solution but once I understood that it works only for a specific point in the screen, and the issues with various glass-based protectors, I think that a sensor in the back of the Smartphone is actually a better solution.

Any glass screen protector with uv glue should be working fine if u press a little on the fingerprint location while uv-ing.. been using it since s10+
I'm using a film screen guard from Gadgetshieldz and I don't have issues with fingerprints, it's the tempered glasses that are causing the problem! I used tempered glass on my S21 and had the fingerprint sensor issue.
