Hi all,
this is my very first post here on xda, so please forgive me if this is not the proper section for my thread. I searched for other thread about similar issues, but I didn't find anyone. I'm Italian, so I even hope to not being wrong in English writing.
I recently bought (on November 2014) an Huawei Ascend Y550-L01 (Android 4.4.4, EMUI 2.3, ROM B137), coming from a (Portuguese) Samsung Galaxy Y Pro GT-B5512. Soon I experienced a very strange GPS behaviour: GPS turns itself off. No problem in signal fixing, nor in quality or precision. It simply deactivates.
First I noticed this using the OruxMaps app (which works fine on many phones, even my old one), simply recording the track. Indeed, at the beginning the app was being killed (because of the integrated task-killer) when screen was off, but after setting it as a "protected" app, when I record a track, GPS works while screen is on and, if screen turns off, then most of the times (not always) GPS is deactivated from within Android settings.
I even received (from the purchasing time) some GPS errors while in the home screen... I don't remember exactly that error, but in a fast Internet search it was told being caused from the weather widget, precisely from the "actual position" setting. I deactivated it and added manually my town and those errors were gone.
Then I noted another strange behaviour: GPS turns off even in standby, during night. It is on "extreme precision" on evening and it's off at morning. Sometimes I notice these deactivation (in the notification menu or into the energy saving widget) while I'm using the phone (but always when screens is off), without any error or message popping out... It simply gets deactivated.
Any other experiencing this strange issue? What could be the cause? I sent a mail to official support, but they asked me to take the phone in a service point... I can't stay without phone, so I would like to avoid this if it's not strictly needed.
I think it's a ROM issue (said that even in the mail), but unfortunately still there is no alternative one (or at least I found none). I think also that (almost) every app that uses GPS suffers for the same behaviour I faced using OruxMaps.
PS: phone IS rooted by a couple of week, but I'm facing this issue from the first day.
What the hell is going on? Any help, idea or trying suggestion is appreciated...
Many thanks!
Up?
I also see strange problems on the Y550-L01 connected to GPS.
In my case the GPS does not disconnect completely, but during car navigation the signal gets lost from time to time (tested with different navigation apps).
This is only the case when the Y550 is NOT connected to the charger. If I connect it to the power supply, GPS works quite reliable and accurate!
For me this sounds like a software problem (maybe connected to a power saving mode?). I hope a firmware update will fix this soon.
Even to me this is a firmware issue. Before of your answer, I was really beginning to think it's a fault of my phone. Now that I'm not the only one, I went back to think of a bug.
If it is a power save problem, then try to use this app to stop the power save mode :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.wl
(ultra light : 35K, free/no adds)
"Wake Lock gives you control over the Android Power- and WifiManager.
For example, you can force the PowerManager to keep the screen on or have the CPU still running in standby mode or make sure the Wifi connection keeps running at full performance.
You can use it on any android phone or tablet.
Use it to keep the screen on in full brightness or dimmed mode during movies or slideshows.
To make sure the CPU is still running in the background doing your tasks when you press the standby button."
Thank you for the report.
It seems that the new huaweï G620S has the same GPS problem :

Any news of an Huaweï update ? Hope yes...

Hi! Better post your question in our small Huawei Ascend Y550 thread. Maybe there someone of us can help.
If you understand German:

These folks have the same proplem, but no solution.
Try it while a charger is attached.

There are quite a few threads on this already including what I wrote (pasted below).
<<<<
I had two types of standby battery drain - mobile data and wifi. I have fixed both of them through lots of trial and error. From my testing and looking on XDA at similar experiences of people on other phones, these are bugs in Android rather than anything Elephone can fix through updates (I'm on the latest 20160419 update).
I fixed the mobile data problem by creating Tasker profiles to keep the phone on 2G whilst it's connected to wifi. I can't post links yet but a search on XDA/Google will find you these profiles. Maintaining a 4G connection is unnecessary whilst on wifi, besides, some people have problems receiving calls on this phone whilst on 4G. If the phone is not connected to wifi (rare in London because it's everywhere even on public transport) 4G comes on. Best of both worlds.
The wifi drain solution sounds counterintuitive but it is simply to set it to 'always on'. With both of these measures, my standby drain has been 1% overnight for the last two nights and roughly 0.25%/hour during the day. Standby drain on 4G whilst moving around London with location on at least quadruples battery drain to around 1-2%/hour.
Some of my other settings will have an impact too. I find the auto-brightness calibration of the P9000 poor, so adjust brightness manually (which also saves battery life). NFC, bluetooth, etc. I only turn on when needed. I use Greenify and have all apps Greenified except Tasker, Textra, and Hangouts. I haven't Greenified any system apps except Google Maps. Location is always on but mostly device only (again counterintuitive, you'd expect it to be 'battery saving') unless I am moving around in which case I have a Tasker profile to automatically switch it to 'high accuracy'.
I tried to get Xposed working so that I could use Amplify too (see my other post) but that didn't work. Since I'm very happy with battery life now that's not that important anymore though it would be nice for the further tweaks it makes possible.
There are too many other variables to list and everybody's phone is set up differently. However, hopefully using some of the main big gains I've listed above you can fix your wifi drain specifically and improve standby drain generally.
Well, it's somewhat problably what keeps the phone awake, this occurs after factory reset, i already did the Tricks you've listed and on screen Features and so on are all off, there are no Apps who should keep the phone awake Cause it's happening Straight after factory reset so there are no other Apps..

Finger print sensor or DT2W for sure. Disable them
On the latest ROMs it is the finger print sensor. Turn it off or go back to 20160810
Hello there,
I have a concern with my honor 7 (PLKL01B380) which his battery empties at high speed.
My system never comes in deep sleep. I lose almost 10% overnight. Since I disabled the update on the lock screen magazine, I've gained a little bit of autonomy.
What I do not understand is that the wifi reports that it is still active as I always cut the night. For information about the wifi, the relationship between the following two screen shots is strange. I do not know where to look for a solution. I did the update to the B380, I turn off wifi and sync during the night but still nothing. I have two sim cards, I know it consumes more but is that why consumption is continuous all night?
Thank you for your ideas.

Have u tried backup, factory reset and restore?
Hello,
Off course, i thinking about full reset but I don't like this idea because I don't want to lose time on reinstall my apps, organize in groups, reinstall all accounts and passwords .. etc.
I've searched in all parameters and I think i've found the two parameters causing trouble
1. As I say in first message, magazine unlock auto-update, set it to disabled
2. In localisation parameter / advanced parameters / Localisation Data / Extended menu (below) / Search parameters / Wifi Search, set it disabled -> this one make my wifi always on
Now, it looks better, phone going in standby, and wifi not always marked as activated in the graphical view of battery.
I'll see next night if it go to deep sleep :good:
Thanks
Well in my opinion it's better to waste a lot of time re-setting-up your phone than having a huge battery drain, but try a night more, it could be the solution you're on to:fingers-crossed:
I had battery drain problem too. I solved it just by switching off viber contact sync in viber general settings. It kept my phone awake with screen off, and my battery life was horrible. Let me know if it helps.

I think that only applies if u use viber
Hi, i have a new Amazfit 2 Stratos with official international firmware US FW (2.3.2.7) and noticed cases where the battery would rapidly drain within hours, for example I would go to sleep with 60% battery and 6-7 hours later it would be on 5%...
I then noticed that if i reset the device, the rapid battery drain would stop, for example i noticed a rapid drain of 10 % an hour, so i reset the device and it stopped draining the battery...
Which made me think there is a stuck process or some firmware issue that keeps draining the battery, and I now reset my device every morning which makes it lasts days.
Anyone else noticing battery drain issues?
Having the same issue. What watch face are you using? I'm trying to narrow down the issue.
I've noticed the same after converting from Chinese to US. I'm thinking it might be caused by WiFi (or something using it) as it didn't start happening until I added my network.
...
try to install Task Manager and you can kill some processes which are maybe draining your battery. I use it as i have plenty of apps there.
I found the cause - the data sync. Each time you access the app on your phone, it syncs the data.
When you disable the wifi/data connection on your cell and access the app (while watch is paired), it tries to sync and fails. Problem is that it seems to be stuck in a loop until data connection is available and by then the battery depletes rapidly.
Solution - don't access the app while there is no connection in your phone to wifi/data.
Not sure if this is the only case when the watch syncs data - it might be syncing it automatically each day at a specific time - will post more info if i find out.
I also don't know if this bug is caused by the new firmware or not because i received the watch only last week and immediately updated to the new version based on the notification in the app.
It seems there is also a difference in battery use when using different watch faces. For example, I've observed that a watch face with no temperature will consume less battery than with a watch face with a temperature reading.
Anyone with similar experience?
I've bought an Amazfit Pace that sufered from same issue, te battery starts to drain all the way down in a couple of hours, so i returned it and decided to buy the Stratos, and guess what?
I have exact the same issue.
Tryed some things and i think the cause is related with smartphone bluetooth, in my case OnePlus 5T bluetooth.
If i desconnect smartphone bluethoot it stops draining, if i put it on again it starts draining again, if restart smartphone it stays good until it happen again next day or so.
Problem with battery discharge Amazfit 2
Hi, I also have a battery discharge problem. The watch battery will start to discharge quickly when I turn on the amazfit application on my phone. When the phone is restarted and I do not go to the Amazfit application, the watch connects everything works and the flashlight is ok, I turn on the application amazfit and the torch goes down. Tonight I put the plane on the phone and plugged in only the bluetooth and my watch was discharged in the morning. The red bar at the bottom of the amazfit app only appears when I'm not connected to the internet, I'm connected all the time. I have amazfit 2 China, recorded by Rom 2.0.14.0, Amazfit Watch 3.0.0 and HUAWEI Mate 10 lite
So it has exactly the same bug as the first one... (and I have it on my wrist). Well time to go back to regular (but expensive for nothing) watches
You may want to check this post/thread:

Basically what usually cause these problems are wither data sync issues or a problem with Bluetooth/WiFi.

I noticed the same issue with my pace on my OP5 after à phone update. Tried to reset, pair un pair still the same.
Issue was removed after oxygenos 5.1.0 but immediately back after last oxos 5.1.1
To move on I paires the watch to my xiaomi mi5 on global stable rom Android 7, all is fine.
Seems many phones are bt broken with oreo.

I think too, that this is some sync related issue. If I check the watch data in the Amazfit app, then the watch starts to drain with 2-3% per hour. However if I exit the app and turn off Bluetooth on the phone till the notification icon and the watch show disconnected and then turn back BT to get the watch connected again, the battery consumption goes back to normal.
Opening the app again starts the battery drain issue again.
I wrote it already in another thread here, I own an Amazfit Pace, of course with battery drain issues. So I tested a bit. When the phoneapp is syncing it shows an information field at the bottom, this field becomes green when finished. But a few seconds later another datasync is made, not shown in the app but indicated by network speedmeter in androids statusbar. I think weather is syncing there but if you aren't aware of this and close the phoneapp before this second sync is finished, the watch runs into battery drain.
Since I wait 10 seconds after the app shows the green sync complete field I never had drain issues again.
amazfit watch app
I have the opposite problem. My phone battery drains like crazy. I have the Stratos for 2 days /int. version/. It works great, battery life is excellent. I suspect the Amazfit Watch App /Android/ is the culprit. I have to charge my phone 2-3 times daily??!
I think my Stratos worked fine until I activated the 'continuous HR' feature (and switched it off again). Before that, it would easily last for 5 days on a full charge. But I also get these fast drains now.
I restarted the watch a couple of times, let's see if this did it.
I've had the same issue a while ago (also after testing the continuous HR feature), and there I really had to reset the watch and reboot 3 times to get it back to normal again.

Something is breaking the Bluetooth connection between phone and watch, the most common cases are WiFi interferences (test with phone in Airplane mode and only BT on and see if battery usage is OK on phone) or corrupted data when syncing to the cloud (open Amazfit app and check if syncing is OK - you should see a green bar at the bottom -, you may need to unpair - it will delete all data on watch - then pair again and answer NO when it asks to restore old data).
Indeed seems bt is corrupted. When draining occurs, even if I switch off the bt from the phone, the icon on the watch says it is still connected. Again for me this does not occur on nougat, only when pairing with oreo device.

That's why I thinks it's a bug. May be usefull to make a bug report.
I have the same increased stand-by battery usage (1-2% per hour). After monitoring battery usage with a Gsam Battery Monitor app, I noticed that 'sms_snd wakeup' activity was active for several hours.
After googling, I found out that sms_snd is a proximity sensor's process.
Try to disable 'Pocket mode' in Settings -> Lock screen & password -> Advanced section.
I am testing it at the moment, will share my results after a day of usage.
Please try and share yours.

You can as well switch off the phone.
You have a severe mobile signal issue. The place where the phone was (while sleeping) has a very bad mobile signal. So for you it might be a solution to switch off the network. If you can't do that (as most of us can't afford to do that), another option is to switch to 3G or 2G where the signal might be better.

Actually I don't think it will disable this process. A lot of users are reporting that there proximity sensor is always on (small IR led in proximity always on). This activity could be the source :/

Yes I could switch it off at this point xD. But it's faster to wake up when it's on airplane mode. Anyway I don't personally need network when I'm sleeping.
I have not noticed any progress with Pocket mode turned off. Also double tap and change orientation wake up switchers are turned off. 10.2.2.0 is in use.
Still awaking, still battery draining...
Are there any news to resolve the problem?

Same issue with mine...
Googled a lot but no progress .. nothing works..
If anyone find solution.. please do inform me..
I did not have any issue when moving to MIUI 10 (androi Pie) myself on my pocophone, but I recently installed a nokia 5.1 plus for a friend.
New, out of the box, new install, immediate upgrade to android 9 (it's an android one phone), no additional apps installed.
It barely survived more than 10-12h, phone never went to sleep.
I found this was a quite common problem when upgrading to android pie, and most users suggest to clear system cache from recovery menu.
However, that is not possible anymore as in most cases android pie doesn't show you that option anymore.
I solved the issue by doing a factory reset from within the OS, then did not configure it when it started up. Instead, I turned it off again, booted to recovery menu and again wiped all data. After that, the phone was configured and the battery was fine. From 10-12h it now holds for 40+ hours.
For reference: that phone lost 30-40% during nighttime!
I'm having issues with my battery too, does anyone know how to fix this?

There can be hundreds of reasons. If you are merely going to ask a question without furnishing any details, this is the best I can do.
