Huawei has launched HMS Core Services 4.0 which promises to bring efficient application development, rapid growth, and flexible monetization. Let's take a close look at HMS core services and see how they help developers.
Huawei Mobile Services Core (HMS) Development Forums
HMS Core Services 4.0 includes the following features:
Some of these services may seem familiar to you, as a number of them date back many years. Features like Account Kit have had time to mature and be polished with many updates. Other services like Location Kit and Analytics Kit and newer and have only been around since late 2019. The latest release of 4.0 includes ML Kit, Awareness Kit, Scan Kit, Nearby Service, as well as all the features shown in the graphic above. Huawei still plans on adding many more features in future updates.
So why would a developer want to choose HMS over GMS? HMS Core's service scope already encompasses most of the services in GMS Core. Huawei has also been a little bolder in exploring new terrain where GMS hasn't bothered to venture. For instance, with HUAWEI ML Kit, HMS Core is a step ahead of GMS Core in providing machine learning capabilities. Although Google has cutting-edge artificial intelligence capabilities, it has not yet added machine learning to GMS Core.
These are some of the ways that HMS 4.0 is helping developers, and offering an alternative solution to GSM.

Unity and Huawei: The Collaborate to Save Time and Resource for UDP Developers

Unity, is best known as the creator of the world's leading real-time 3D development platform, giving users accessible tools to create, operate, and monetize experiences for the real-time world. Experiences created with Unity have been already used on 3 billion devices worldwide now, and have been installed over 37 billion times in the last 12 months. Today, 50% of the world’s top 1,000 mobile gaming apps are created with Unity, and half of all new mobile games are made with Unity.
The gaming market is becoming increasingly distributed around the world, with the APAC region accounting for over 50% of global gaming revenue. The Android ecosystem in APAC is very fragmented, for instance, and for game developers, this global distribution presents both tremendous opportunities and new challenges.

The Challenge
In general, the highly distributed game market brings more challenges to developers. They must Developers must deal with:
- different software development kits (SDKs), proprietary payment systems,
- governance and regulatory conditions for each app marketplace where they publish their games, and
- they have to go through this every time when there is an update to the store.
The Solution
Unity Distribution Portal (UDP) is one of Unity’s most powerful apps. UDP allows mobile game developers to reach and engage with their gamers with less effort but greater efficiency across various distribution channels. With UDP, developers can distribute to multiple stores in new markets through a single hub, truly enabling “Create Once, Publish Everywhere”. Launched in open beta about a year ago, UDP already hosts more than 700 apps with a total of 20,000 developers from over 2,000 organizations active on the app.
How Unity and Huawei collaborated to help developers?
Huawei and Unity have come together to help developers to create amazing games and unlock new opportunities by collaborating on the UDP app.
Unity has integrated Huawei’s Game Services kit into UDP. This means that if UDP developers have already published games on other stores they do not have to integrate SDKs again and can publish on the AppGallery with just a few clicks. It also allows developers to easily build features like achievements, rankings, player sign-ins and statistics for the launch on the Huawei AppGallery. Currently, this is the first and only game service kit that has been integrated into UDP. Unity has also integrated the Account and In-App Purchases (IAP) kits into UDP. Taken together, this saves developers a significant amount of time and resources when publishing on the AppGallery. Sounds exciting? Click here to see how their Greater China President says about UDP and their collaboration with Huawei.
In the future, Unity will integrate more features from Huawei HMS Core Kit into UDP, further lowering the cost and saving precious time for developers who want to publish and operate their games on Huawei AppGallery.
