Hi,
I have reset my phone (Xiaomi 9s / curtana) and just wanted to debloat it once again. Someone said here that removing gallery app might cause bootloop, but which I havent experienced (see my debloating thread). Since MIUI is running now with 11.0.10 and 11.0.9 as before, I want to make sure that I would be able to unbrick my device, in case I run into a bootloop.
Is it possible to unbrick a device that is still locked?
What do I need beside MiFlash?
thx for any help!

Hey guys,
so I thought about getting a Redmi note 3 Pro since my wileyfox swift broke.
I am a person that "needs" his phone rooted for adaway and viper audio. I also like CyanogenMod a lot.
After reading through a lot of threds here I got kind of confused and I am really sorry for the dumb questions following.
So what exactly do I have to do to get my phone unlocked rooted and maybe install CM (if it is stable enough).
And there seem to be quite many MIUI Roms out there. what is the difference between all these "global", "eu" and stable or developer versions?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Also I read that I can change MIUI Roms with locked bootloader. Can someone explain this?
First the firmware
Global rom is intended for worldwide use (has google play store installed, and other google apps)
China rom is for the chinese and has mostly china specific apps / china app store
Developer rom is usually the latest MIUI version so it could be buggy and is intended for testing
Stable rom is been thoroughly tested and is thought to be the most stable and reliable rom.
Vendor rom is a very stable rom given to sellers to flash for international buyers, most users would never notice, however for enthusiasts it can cause problems getting the device unlocked since it's not identified by the unlock tool, causing users to have to go through a semi-difficult process getting it back to the stable or developer firmware so we can properly unlock it.
(if you do buy one I suggest you ask them to send one with the Chinese firmware since they are easier to flash and unlock)
then there is the eu/smiui roms which are built form the official source but they are 3rd party firmwares, just compiled by someone else maybe with additional features or tweaks.
For the bootloader there is several ways to unofficially unlock it but they are risky, I won't go into that since it should be only as a last resort.
to request xiaomi to unlock your device you go to this website
http://en.miui.com/unlock/
fill out the required information, sign up for an account (you need to use a phone number you can receive sms messages on), and in a few days they usually grant permission, remember your username / email and password since you will need it later when you unlock it., then download the unlock tool, boot your phone to fast boot and then press unlock on the tool, and it should unlock (unless you have the troublesome vendor firmware), if unlocked now you can install twrp / cm13 / root / xposed ..etc
--
you can flash the official miui roms with the locked bootloader
Just to add, if you get an international version of the phone (Special Edition, codename Kate) then the bootloader unlock process does not seem to work at all. I had to resort to an unofficial unlock after trying for over a week (and I'm not new to this).
I would wait. I rely on my phone and mine stopped charging after 10 days. Followed all the silly guides about flashing this, flashing that. Only time phone is recognised is in fast boot mode but no charge. Now my phone is dead and Xiaomi support is nowhere to be seen. They said they will contact me in 24h and its been 3 days.
If you really rely on your phone then please buy a phone that has real customer support. Best case scenario you have to send phone to China and worst case scenario you have to buy a new phone.

I bought for my parents 2 Redmi 3 for them to enjoy. I know vendors hinder with the Rom so I usually ask to keep the phone on its original chinese Rom when i buy for myself or for my wife.
However this time I made a mistake thinking that who needs OTA for my parents and i ordered it as it is.
Turned out all google services stops working in the next day whatever I do (reboots, resets, formats, etc...).
I tried flashing via updater app the global rom, it failed.
I tried flashing by rebooting to recovery, it didnt reboot to recovery.
I tried some other stuff which failed.
I downloaded xiaomi unlock tool, signed in, and tried to unlock the bootloader. It didn't work.
I read somehow on miui forums that it's probably a driver issue (something about disabling signature which i'm not familiar with).
Can you please help me?! What to do now? Steps or a guide would be awesome.
Thanks,
Hi everyone, im new to XDA. But that's kinda beside the point.
I have a Redmi Note 3 with Snapdragon 650 and 2gb ram 16gb storage. I wanted to install lineage os/R.remix because im kinda bored of miui and wanted nougat. I did the following steps to install.
1. Unlocked bootloader via no-permission or hack method.
2. Installed TWRP latest as of 10-6-2017 thru Fastboot.
3. Wiped cache,dalvik and data
4. Flashed R.Remix nightly 10-6-17 and then Gapps.
In this step, I had a problem. It was giving me error:7 (xiaomi.verify.modem) and so I modded the rom (updater-script) and worked. It had the animation loop soflashed NON-HLOS modem binary thru Fastboot and flashed the original signed ROM. But, the problem persists. It's stuck in the boot animation and looping infinitely. I left it for 30min-1hr and still loops. What do I do now? Please help me in this regard. Till then, MIUI again
bro you forgot to flash lazy flasher at first boot in rom after installing twrp.

There's no need of lazyflasher on a custom Rom!
Do you want to know something else about what I did to solve the problem? Although I rolled back to miui bcos I needed my phone:good:

Don't flash that miui firmware from post above, it will relock your bootloader because you are not officially unlocked.
Best way to go is to flash latest global dev fastboot rom, unlock officially. This way you will have no problems with flashing nougat custom roms.
So, should I install the latest global developer rom? I checked yesterday it was v7.6.7 while latest global stable was 8.2.4 which I have currently installed. I also checked via fastboot OEM device-info and, yeah, bootloader locked.:crying: So, I should install the dev. Rom and ask for permission and then unlock, like, the official way? I'm waiting for the reply. Make it clear and I'll try it. Thnx.
Edit : I also somehow got TWRP uninstalled:crying::crying: I don't know if this unexpected or was doomed to happen but yeah, again, just saying.
I just asked for permissions to unlock and..... Surprise!!! I got the permission in 5 minutes!!!
I feel kinda sad for the people who are waiting for more than 21 days...

OMG OMG OMG IM TRIGGERED WHAT IS THIS??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*calms down*
This MI Flash gets stuck at 99% even tho I got permissions (an SMS from MI) and shows current account not bound to device. What do I do? I also tried binding my account to phone by settings-->dev. options-->mi unlock which gave code 86012 and some Chinese characters which I honestly can't understand. I also tried installing global dev and doing the same thing but gives same 86012 and Chinese. Plzz help me in this regard. Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Actually, nvm. I got lineage is installed and running on my phone by following a guide on how to install twrp without unlocking bootloader. Worked like a charm for me. I'm typing this now on lineage:silly: Anyways, thanks for the effort. Thread closed.
You could've just waited for 7 days and you would've unlocked your bootloader officially
how did it go buddy ?

You can follow the tutorial on how to install lineage os with locked bootloader on redmi note 3. Works like a charm, i am using lineage os 14.1 with locked b.loader!!:good:
recommend you to wait for 5-7 days and unlock it officially...
So that you would never face problems in future.
Yes, I'm a noob of sorts.
So I tried clean flashing LOS 14 over CM 13 (followed instructions up to the last dot) and along the way, I soft bricked my device. I'm not sure what exactly happened, but my phone won't completely boot up anymore. It just shows the "Mi" icon for about 2 seconds and it shuts off. Thankfully, I am still able to go into fastboot mode. I'm not sure where to go from there though.
I've looked into different threads on how I can unbrick my device, but I'm not sure if I should just go with it. I did download a lot of tools and stuff to make sure that I'm good to go before I start doing anything. Right now, what I want to do is to flash the latest MIUI Global official ROM, no roots, no custom recovery. Just a clean MIUI Rom. I know some bits and pieces of technical stuff since I've been flashing roms for a year now, but I'm kinda hesitant to follow some of threads because I don't want to brick my device further.
SOME INFO THAT MIGHT HELP:
- I had Magisk
- I can't access TWRP
- My bootloader is unlocked unofficially
- I can only access fastboot
- the last things I flashed before this happened: latest MIUI kenzo firmware, LOS 14 and OpenGapps
Any help is appreciated. If I'm in the wrong place, or if there's already a guide out there, please point me to the right direction. Thank you!
All you need is here: http://en.miui.com/a-234.html
Just select "Clean all" at the bottom of MiFlash to keep your bootloader unlocked.
Edit:
I would recommend flashing 8.5.1.0 fastboot ROM (this one is currently hidden on MIUI site).
Download link, for kenzo - Global stable
Your bootloader got relocked since you unlocked it unofficially, unlock it again using mi unlock.
[SOLVED] i'm stuck in a vicious loop of flashing that i need to unlock my bootloader to flash stock rom but my phone is stuck on the page "CHECKING CONNECTION THIS MAY TAKE A WHILE" hence rendering me helpless on how to turn allow oem unlock on in dev settings on my lenovo vibe k5, I used king root to root my device but it started misbehaving with google play services so i decided to factory reset it, now i can't even get into my phone, and can't even flash stock rom any suggestions how to get out of this?
Edit: HI everyone thanks for the helpful comments after I've SOLVED this just a suggestion for whoever who stumbles on this or is in a similar situation like this , Turns out my twrp did not do the factory reset properly and hence allow oem unlock was on and hence i was able to flash a stock ROM using QFIL program in QPST description of the procedure will be and can be found on the super thread of the device please refer and flash it.
IMPORTANT: flash a stock ROM of a lower version that seems to work wonders ,I literally had to uninstall android by wiping my system folder because I didn't have a backup[NOOB MISTAKE] and i thought i'll wipe entirely and reinstall the OS and that worked out by the power of other helpful XDA threads
One question
What is bootloader status when you buy the phone from your provider??
I want to buy it but Not if at the end i will have bootloader locked and not to be able to unlock it??
Like the Sony Xperia models
All provider ones comes with bootloader locked forever so you never even get root or twrp or anything custom
Please advice me regarding bootloader locked status
Thanks
Hi, my note 9 pro jut arrived, and it turns out that MIUI dropped their dialer, calendar and message apps on european phones, I wanted them back so I want to install xiaomi.eu ROM, but I am aware that google has been a little [bleep] with bootloader unlocking, my questions are simple
Will safetynet Pass even if I don't install Magisk?
I've heard something about altering the /persist partition will make the device to lose any HD video playback capability, is there a way to back it up? dd'ing I guess?
Can it be restored?
I will not touch anything until I have any consistent answer, but the google thing really pisses me off (anyway I have to wait the seven days before applying for unlock)
Thanks in advance
I'm using the Note 9 Pro global version. If you unlock the bootloader then SafetyNet will fail but locking the bootloader fixes this issue on stock miui. You won't be having SafetyNet related problems with xiaomi.EU even if you root it with magisk.
