Battery drops really fast in standby - Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite Questions & Answers

Hello guys. I bought this phone a few weeks ago and from the first day, I have been facing this problem. I have deleted all bloatware and tried everything on the internet. The battery usage stats show that no specific app is causing this. Just today, I went to sleep at around 8am with 45% battery and wifi off, and woke up at 5pm with 35% battery. Please help guys.

Attached is a screenshot of my battery stats. Always on display is set to always on btw but i dont think thats the issue

Wow, i cant remember when last i slept half that long!
I believe Miui 11 drains battery. I got better results after debloating. Try scheduling battery saver.

Haha I was surprised as well as I usually dont sleep this much. Anyway, attached is a screenshot of betterbatterystats and it seems like system is the culprit. What should I do now?

After disabled Screen Animations my Mi Note 10 works all day with 50% of battery. I think MIUI 11.0.8 is terrible.

no, since MIUI 11.0.8 works without problems here.

May be too much sync? See if Greenify app or Superfreezz makes a difference.

I have 150+ apps, wifi on and when I checked two days ago I went from 100% => 99% in 7h 45 min during the night.
I have done nothing to improve battery life.
Maybe resetting the phone and start over?

Cmon, that's not possible.
I have just a few App, everything is optimised and still I get a huge drain from Google Play Services.

This is Google play services for me after 12 h use. It is number 8 of battery consumption.

Always on WiFi? that's the only explanation, since I get the drainage only when with data.

Yeah, always wifi. Have not checked drain with data only. If I remember I will turn off wifi tonight and check.

Tried with only data and lost 3% in 7 h. Most of it was at 3 AM when WhatsApp wanted to backup but I have it on only wifi.

Lucky you!
I have done all the optimisation, enabled aggressive doze, remove auto-sync, notifications, backup, everything related to position/history/scan, blocked ads with nextdns, unistalled Google plays services updates, disabled change system setting, unistalled every possible 3rd part app that could use it (a few since it's brand new) and I am basically using it for WhatsApp.
Results: Google plays services always at the top, no matter what. It was higher, now it's stable around 10/20%. Unbelievable I hate this phone.
28% - 3h30 SOT
my old oneplus can do better, with a battery not even reaching 4k mA and with intense use of location tracking apps, FB, WhatsApp etc etc .

Maybe you did too much lol. I dont know, every review i watched, every endurance test on youtube, this device destroys others in battery test. I also have excellent endurance, charge once every 2 days, and i get around 6hours of sot. Completely stock, no hacks, mods, debloats or anything. 24/7 sync with my galaxy watch, 2 gmail accounts, facebook, instagram etc. You either have horrible reception, and while trying to find mobile towers phone wastes a lot of energy, or you have always on display setup for 24/7, or by removing stuff, you created some software bugs. Cant think of other explanation.

It is possible that a bad signal is the culprit here, I am currently living in the countryside and the signal is not the best (I can see in the stats too). Still I don't know what it should have to do with Google Play Services!
Luckily I am moving back to the city next week, so I will keep an eye on that.

Try one night in airplane mode on. If it's the signal, it would be a big difference in battery.

Google Now draining battery REALLY badly...?

Hello,
Im running an XXELLA based rom on my SGS3, and in the last weeks I tried out using Google Now.
I really like that thing, its great how it knows where you work and where you live, and that it can give you traffic / train delay information when you have an appointment and so on...
But I also noticed that it severely drained my battery...
I didnt know that it was Google Now at first, because it didnt show up in Android's battery stats.
Then I used BetterBatteryStats to see what was causing Wakelocks...
When I had a "screen on" time of like 2 hours, the "awake" time was often 4 hours or even more!
NetworkLocationLocator was the culprit, and now since I disabled Google Now again, everything is back to normal... no more NetworkLocationLocator wakelocks and battery life is good again.
Now my question: Is this normal?
To the people who actively use Google Now: Do you also get such wakelocks of many hours? I'd be interested to see "BetterBatteryStats" output from other Google Now users...
... anyone?
(sorry for bumping this...)

Same here...I'm using Cyanogenmod 10.1.3 on a International Galaxy S4, and google now was awaking my device too often and draining battery as well...after turning it off, all went back to normal... Maybe the Android 4.2.2 isnt as optimized as latest versions for google now...

I remember reading somehwere on the forum that it was the location based aspects of google now that use the most battery because its always working out where you are to give you all those pretty little relevant cards. so I'd say that yes, your experience is normal. if you go into the setting of google now you can disable the location aspects. I'm currently running kitkat and there is an option to choose how the phone gets your location (cell towers, wifi, gps etc) by setting it to just gps i found it helped with battery consumption. I'm not sure if that option is available in your rom. I also use nfc tags to trigger the gps when im in my car because I dont really need the location based aspects when im not driving/travelling

[Q] Sudden high battery drain

I'm looking for help trouble shooting why my Atrix is suddenly sucking the battery dead over the period of a few hours. I've had my atrix for almost 2 years now and always had excellent battery life. After some app updates a couple weeks ago my phone started sucking the battery empty in just a few hours. I bought a new OEM battery thinking my battery had just expired, but this made no difference. I've uninstalled the apps and killed the processes for apps that I thought might be to blame, but still the problem remains. The "Battery usage" app shows that "Phone idle" uses the vast majority of the power. Is there some way determine which process is actually using the power, or a way to tell if maybe the processors are not being put to sleep when they should?
Download CPU spy from the play Store and check if the processor is entering deep sleep. it might as well be that the signal is low and the antenna, constantly searching for signal is consuming that battery power. Is the 3g ( and data) enabled?

Thank you very much! I installed CPU Spy Plus. In 2 hours 45 minutes my battery went from 100% to 50%. CPU Spy shows 85.9% of the time is in "Deep Sleep", and the rest of the time is sprinkled between 216MHz and 1000MHz. The back of the phone is slightly warm. So it looks like the CPU's are going to sleep properly, I wonder what else it could be?

Then it's probably the cell standby, read this guide here!
Or, there is some Background service of an app which is running but not using CPU... could be Maps, try turning off gps.

Romanoff lhption
According to my phone, only 12% went to "cell standby", 17% to "display" and 63% to "phone idle". My wifi is always disabled, and I always have 3g and data enabled. I just unchecked the options to use WiFi and GPS for location and I'll see if that makes a difference. If not then I will turn off data and see if that makes a difference.
I'm on the right track! Turning off location services did not make any difference, but disabling data entirely seemed to put the battery drain back to normal, AND the "deep sleep" percentage shown in CPU Spy went well up into the 90%+ range. So now I know the battery drain is caused by some app keeping the CPU from sleeping, and possibly using the data connection a lot. FF though some trial and error, and I am now suspecting the Google Play process. With data and background data enabled, if I kill the Google Play process and add it to the auto-end list, battery drain seems to possibly be back to normal. And the CPU is still spending 90%+ in "Deep Sleep". With Google Play running, the CPU is much more active. After another day or two I'll know for sure if Google Play is the problem. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions so far!
PS-> I see that Google Play Store will remove itself from the auto-end list..
OK now I need help. The problem is definitely google play. When I kill the process my battery usage goes back to normal, however the process keeps coming back to life on its own. Adding it to the auto kill list does nothing, and I was unable to uninstall it. Is there some way to roll back google play store to a previous version, or prevent it from starting itself?
What version of the Play app are you using? Version 4.1.10 came out a few days ago, they say among other things it fixes high battery drain on some devices/systems.
From what I've seen, Play is a kinda "special" app. There is no way to freeze it or kill it permanently. Not sure why.

hi, im having the same problem but not sure what is draining the battery. Using playstore 4.1.6 on Mrom whith SV kernel ver. 45. all services and data off, wifi off full signal bars and the battery only lasts 24 hrs on idle.
cpu spy shows 99% of deep sleep time, il try stopping playstore services and post again.

You're luckier than me. Uninstalling the play store service and rolling the play store back to the old "market" helped a little, but definitely didn't resolve the issue. After that change, my battery drain was about 10%/hr. Every time I think I've resolved it, it quickly reverts back to high battery drain. If I completely disable all data then my battery life goes back to normal. My buddy at work is now having the same problem with his Atrix. I'm wondering if AT&T decided that it's time for us to upgrade our phones and pushed down some changes to make these older phones less desirable to work with, by killing the batteries faster.

not so lucky i must say , got the problem back after a couple of hours. im changing roms/kernels in order to find the best combination. Actually managed to get like a 1% /hour battery drain, with ALL things turned off, il keep testing for like a day or two.
i'm having the same kind of issues as well my atrix...
also my battery meter frequently reads wrong i've tried both the atrix battery fix app which i had setup to automatically run the fix when ever it reached full voltage and the bat meter wasn't reading full i've also tried the some other .zip program i found on XDA with minimal success
i'll be paying attention to this thread to see what comes up
Edit...
Did a complete wipe of my phone and installed neutrino 2.9 EE vice GT or GT+ that I have been running previously
discovered Facebook and juice defender ultimate have permissions to modify battery statistics, so I disabled those permissions (along with multiple others from different apps) and turned juice defender off to see if battery consumption changes
As well I uninstalled Google services via titanium backup, report back in as couple days see if anything changes
Reporting, it seems like the phone cant get in deep sleep mode, tried wipes, new roms and kernels and getting the same problem. Maybe its a hardware related issue
I'm having a similar issue. I've removed play services, and changed radios and kernel. Will check to see if this helps.

Same Problem
I have the same problem. I've read all thread and checked Play Service, yes it looks as if it's his fault.
Tried to delete it with "Root app remove" and titanium backup. No result it's coming back!
Really need help. This is a great phone with unique features (docking station). But before it worked 3 days on a single charge, and now 24 hours!
Google bought Motorola why is it so hard to fix this issue and why it's still working under Android 2.3.6... Give us ICS!
P.s.: System version 4.5.141.MB860.ATT.en.US, Android 2.3.6, Baseband N_01.77.37P
Had Google Play 4.1.6. Today changed on 4.1.10 maybe it'll help.

i9300 battery life

hi,
i checked the forums and found no solution. i am on stock 4.2.2 leak and the battery life is better than 4.1.2 however, it still doesn't compare well to what other people have posted.
i see some people showing screenshots showing their s3 lasting for 2 days... i am wondering am i doing something wrong.
here is what i get after a day at work (see attached)
thanks
Battery life is something on which you will get a million views/opinions/results. Depends on your usage, uc, uv, brightness, apps you use etc. For instance I don't get more than 3 hours screen time while people here get around 6 hours. Battery life is something you can work on and tweak to make it last longer.
Hope this helps!
Sent from my GT-I9300
i am on stock kernel though rooted so no uc,uv brightness is set to auto with -5 (not sure what that does but on the 4.2.2 leak it made the screen dimmer), i suspect it might be the apps draining but .. what use is a phone without them...i use llama for location profiles and avast antivirus(not sure if really needed), also facebook set to not sync, gmail set to default push and i play games occasionally.. as shown from the image less than an hour total.
oh wells ... i was just wondering how do those people get 3 days+ out of the same phone, either they didnt use the phone much or left it in standby through the whole time.

Post screenshot from Partial Wakelocks and Alarm (if you have enable root feature on BetterBatteryStats). We can find more information about apps which wakeup your phone all the time.
If I say I have to use 2 or 3 batteries per day, will that make you feel better?
Don't bother it, if you can have your screen on time over 3 or 4 hours, you can be happy with that, because from my experience, that is how our S III can do, of course with some more tweak and caution on the battery you can up it to like 5 , 6 hours.
If you really care about it,, like what? Lower CPU, undervoltage it, even the GPU, screen brightness down to minimum, kill all non essential function like BT, Wi-Fi, data connection, GPS... etc
Just don't compare with people around here , they are just like geeks over here...

So you are saying the posted media server fix does not work .
If GP music is always running somehow you have turned it on .
Battery is variable depends upon usage and a key often overlooked component is your network and the masts . Weaker the signals the more time the battery drains searching signals .

yea it seems the posted mediaserver fix dont work, and GPM running seems to be a common problem with the latest update .. i have just froze it .. we shall see if it has any significant impact.
also, my signal strength is always high, so no issue there.
somehow i was unable to find GPM in greenify so had to use Ti to freeze it

Huge battery drain when idle

Hello everyone,
My s6 Edge does not go to sleep. It drains huge amount of battery while idle.
I need urgent help. I have disabled all AT&T bloatware. But it still does not work.
I have also tried hard resetting it, it does not work. Battery continues to drain.
Thank You.
Is this something new or has it always been like this? Btw, which version of LP are you on? 5.0.2 or 5.1.1?
Its new, LP v. 5.0.2

5.0.2 seems to be notorious for battery drains...check if your device has the 5.1.1 update which seems to be better in terms of RAM management. Also, are you data or wifi...if on data, then LP is again notorious for a world famous "mobile radio active" bug...it's all over the web...So, the best solution would be to either put the phone in deep freezer until Google fixes the huge bugs in LP or sell your phone...just kidding...
After updating your device (if there's any), do a factory reset...it should solve your problems...hopefully
Does not go to sleep? Check your settings about screen timeout..The battery drain can be fixes through system update..if samsung has any update ready

I hard reseted my phone, disable all bloatwares, haven't installed any apps, haven't signed in to anything (even google, only signed into samsung account). charged to 100%. Left the phone for 4-5 hrs, battery drained to 81%.
fliptroniks said:
I was going to say just make sure you dont have too many apps running and you can also download a battery saving app on the play store for free which can help. It sounds like theres something you have running draining your battery though. Keep in mind however that the galaxy s6 edge when charged to 100 percent can hold a charge for quite awhile, but if your only charging it too around 40 or 50 percent it will die rather quickly.

Your best bet is to install TWRP, root, and flash "No deep sleep fix", thats if you dont care about tripping knox of course.
Seems like an aggressive suggestion since we don't know the root cause yet. It might not be a wake lock issue; it could be location tracking or updates getting stuck. I'd rather see the battery stats first.
Screen is not even on the list, i haven't used my device for more than 15-20 mins (used chrome & inbox for 15-20 mins in the morning)

Google Services like I thought. There's a number of things that can cause this as it's quite a fundamental service. The most simple fixes are:
- Make sure there's no pending updates in the Play store. These can work havoc with the battery when waiting for manual approval
- If this doesn't work, remove your google account, reboot and re-add it. For some reason this can fix the sync issues that cause drain
- Still no dice? The next one is to backup, factory format then restore your backup. It's a bit extreme but sometimes when you update your software it causes a glitch that only goes away with a factory format
Each time you try a fix, let the battery fully charge then check the stats a couple of hours later.
Thanks for the suggestion, I will let u know the results soon.

You're welcome. If it's any conciliation I had exactly the same issue and fixed it this morning with those steps.
Google services is one of the biggest battery user but it still doesn't explain his erratic battery loss. I never turn off any features and get decent life.

Tried the third step many times before, didn't work.
So, yesterday I tried the 1st & 2nd step, worked like a charm, I was happy but today, the same results (battery was draning like i was playing games). So I completely removed my google account and left my phone for a few hours. Here is the result (see attached). As you can see no Stupid Google Play Services in the list but what is eating my battery ????

Again, LP has a world famous bug called the "Mobile Radio Active" bug. What this means that if an app uses the data services for some odd reason LP keeps the mobile radio open even if the app does not need it any more...So, for all you know ur issue is Android related and not your device specific. Oh btw, the upcoming M also has this confounded bug...so I believe we will be plagued by this bug for the foreseeable future...And I dumped my iPhone for this buggy Android...Dang!
How is your reception, If most of the time your phone struggle to get reception, it may be part of the problem, just my 2 cents, not an expert, but myself trying to get rid of the google service battery bug...
Better battery stats would give detailed information as to the cause, yet it requires root on all lollipop devices. Helped me find the exact cause of my phone never sleeping

Question Anyone with high Mobile Network standby battery drain

I used to have the classic Mobile Network standby battery drain issue, until I flashed CalyxOS.
I left my phone with 100% battery before I went to bed last night and woke up this morning 8 hours later with no drain of any kind at all.
Might be an option for anyone else with the same issue.
Interesting. So that confirms it's a software issue and not hardware. Which is a relief. It means Google can fix it via OTA update. Hopefully enough people reported it that Google took notice. i am on chat with google now and they want me to factory reset. I was hoping to avoid that
wait just a question. you said 8 hours.those stats don't update for 24 hours. So you got 16 more hours to go till you know if the issue is fixed. that is why there are no stats at all on your screenshot. It just says battery data isn't available right now
Edit: ok I was wrong about that because I factory reset my phone (on the advise of Google support) and it's been 7 hours and I can see stats. But yes not losing anything In 8 hours is suspicious. I mean it could happen I guess my pixel 4xl got fantastic battery life and apparently mine was the only 4xl that got good battery life because everyone else hated the 4xl because of battery life. Anyway with my 4xl I would lose 1 or 2 percent overnight same with my 1,2,3a and 5. It's only the 6 that this is happening too. I just hope that it can be fixed with an software update.
8 hours with no drain is suspicious if you are not in Airplane mode. The clock, the weather app, email client, a bunch of things at least asks back for update preiodically, so it seems odd.

He's pushing this OS all over the place, not sure why. Most people do not want to bl unlock, wipe their devices and gamble with a new OS that probably doesn't work with Google Pay. And I agree 8 hours with no drain? Not likely although I did have 0.4% / hour one night. Usual is around 0.8 - 1.0 / hour.

Calyx doesn't do anything really in the background. It's de-Googled and has background processes limited or killed altogether. It is certainly possible to get this low idle drain considering OP is on wifi with what looks to be a very strong mobile network signal so the inefficient Exynos modem isn't draining it.
The downside of course is that a bunch of stuff doesn't work right on Calyx because there are no Play Services. You can't even access the stuff you bought IAP for...
I see. I don't say that it is bad. limiting or killing processes in deep sleep would hurt the notifications too, right? It is an interesting OS, but I would join to the others. I need my apps in a convenient way. I did modding in the past but now I appreciate phones that just work when I take them out from the box.

Where am I pushing anything? I'm sorry that I'm excited I've managed to solve a problem and want to share it with others where it could help. But hey, you're welcome to keep scrolling if my posts bother you that much.
For anyone else who might be interested, I took my phone off charge this morning and have been using it for the last 5 hours receiving Whatsapp messages, emails, calendar notifications, Doorbell/CCTV notifications and doing light internet browsing and I've lost 2% battery so far.

You might have "solved" one problem but introduced countless others. If you're really that excited then give all the info not just overnight battery drain and be a little more forthcoming about the rom. I mean in reality if I turn off all network activity and put it into airplane mode I'd get the same results and probably even better. And then there's your thread of ...Why isn't everyone running CalyxOS? Maybe one thread would have been enough instead of cross posting the Pro and the P6. Anyway, I do believe you have gotten enough feedback so people know the pitfalls of the rom and the supposed benefits of longer battery life.

I turned nothing off. If I had I would have said so. What's the point in posting my findings then? I would be useless wouldn't it? I don't have time to play games and lead people around the bush. I'm not 12 years old anymore.
So just to satisfy your curiosity, I use my phone in exactly the same way I have always used it. Bluetooth off, Wifi and mobile data on, location on when I need it but off at the moment. All my apps work just the same as before including my banking app. The only thing I don't use now is Google Pay, and two of my apps with in app purchases are not registered. Apart from that it is exactly how it was before.

Mobile network standby of 2 minutes with 5 hours off the charger suggests airplane mode was in use.
I don't care how much stuff you turn off in the background, there is no way you're getting a 2% loss from 5 hours of usage unless you used the phone for less than 30 minutes in those 5 hours.

Ok crack on buddy. Lol
Suspicious, yes, but then again... I used to be able to run my old Moto G3 for two weeks on a single charge with just a bare-bones LOS, no gapps and nothing else in the background, so it doesn't seem THAT unreasonable.
