MIUI Gallery creating weird files on sd card - Redmi Note 9S / Note 9 Pro (Indian Model) Question

Whenever i open MIUI gallery app i creates a weird file on sd card root storage. It creates new file each time gallery app is launched. Anybody else facing this weird issue ? It just stacks up hundreds of files on sd card. Anyway to resolve this issue ? Help would be appreciated. I'm using curtana.
Thanks in advance

I have joyeuse running the EEA v11.0.4.0.QJZEUXM rom and I have exactly the same happening. I have noticed that the files all seem to be 0 bytes (empty) and they seem to be created daily including days when I don't use the gallery app. I have moved them all to "trash" which doesn't seem to affect the gallery app. I'll try few tests to see if I can identify when it creates them.

It seems like some kind of cache file. i noticed that when i delete these files gallery takes a bit longer to load thumbnails of pictures. i also tried different apks of miui gallery but issue remains there

Hi there, is there any optoin to avoid MIUI Gallery to create these 0Byte files? I am on 11.0.5(QJZMIXM) and the 0Byte files are stored in the SD Card.

I'm on version 11.0.10.0 still the issue remains there and so far the only solution i've found is to stop using stock galley it just creates new 0byte file on every time you open the app. MIUI Gallery app isn't well optimized if you try to move a picture within sd card from one folder to other it moves it to internal storage for no reason. Stock gallery app is just a mess.

yes, I agree. The only reason I remain with the MIUI Gallery, if you make a screenshot and want to share it e.g. in WhatsApp, this action will fail, if MIUI Gallery is disabled or deleted. Unfortunately I could not "motivate" Google Photos to do this job, thus MIUI Gallery remains.

Hoping they'll fix these issues in miui v12 otherwise we'll have to void our warranty and go for custom roms. This android skin is literally trash

I'm using INDIA Rom: v11.0.8 and same problem. How to fix it?

Same problem here :crying: rn9p global

I'm experiencing the same problem. (rn9s global, MIUI 11.0.10.0)
When I launch the MIUI Gallery app, it creates *.miuigallery (garbage file) on my sd card.

They are just treating their users as beta testers miui is full of small bugs and not polished enough and so far there's no fix for this issue.

Did you guys reported to the services and feedback section in settings?
You should. Otherwise it'll never be fixed.

i reported the issue there too. The device even got 2 to 3 updates after that but issue still remains there. I'm hoping it'll be fixed in MIUI 12 update.

They do not respond or reply anyway. But hopefully noting the bugs and doing something about it.

for a previous message i received a reply, so they can if they want

I found a solution.
They already fixed it on the latest version of the gallery but it seems that its not yet available via the system apps updater.
A workaround for this is to download it via a 3rd-party apk site (I use apkmirror). The one I installed is v2.2.16.19 and that fixed the issue for me

Thanks....this worked for me

[Q] Mounting Internal Storage and CM9

Hi, I need your help about the following issue: I successfully install Cyanogenmod 9 on the Atrix and everything works fine except the internal storage. My phone don't use the internal 10GB memory.
At the moment I can't use several apps ( gallery and camera over all ), Music is the only app working properly. It gives back this message "No storage - No external storage available", the point is I want the Atrix to use internal storage.
I can easly see and browse /emmc by the terminal emulator; for this reason I don't think it to be something involving permissions to enter or use /emmc.
In Settings Menu I can't find any option to properly mount the internal sd ( can only see the memory status ).
Thank you for replies.

I have already tried but nothing happened - just the vibration pushing the menu button in settings-storage. It seems there's no menu in settings-storage.
You need to go to Settings > Advanced > Use internal storage.
After you check marked it, reboot and you are done. :]
Its in the settings-->storage---> storage settings-->bottom of page to storage location--> make sure its on internal storage

Storage menu only shows some status bars about the memory usage. I can't see any option.
Maybe those options have been deleted in CM 9/ics.
Thank you for your replies.

I can't post screen shots because I can't use memory to save pictures but in my settings-advanced menu there are only two options: fingerprint sensor and hdmi audio.
There's an issue with my rom?
Which ROM are you using? Jokersax's? Turl's? CNA? AOKP?

Not yet, never heard of that. Can you link me something about that?
edit:
I've Installed the sd switch script but nothing changed. I think i'll try formatting and installing Jokersax v 0.5.1 to be sure i am using the last version.
It's on his homepage. Scroll down, download the zip, flash in cwm.
Wait, the internal storage is detected in cwm, right? And it does mount on Windows/Mac/Linux/whatever-os-you're-using?

Script installed, but nothing changed. The storage mounts properly on Windows. I can browse it also inside android ( via terminal emulator or file manager without difficulty ).
I think i am going to install Jokersax 0.5.1 to be sure i am using the last version.
EDIT:
Great News! I was not using Jokersax's last rom. Now i have selected internal storage in settings-advanced and everything works fine.
Thank you all for the help.
Now that I've solved the internal storage problem i would like to ask you some questions.
The first is about the camera: i know there are still problems with jokersax rom and the camera application. There are some external apps to record video or shoot photos without lag or freezing issue?
Second, I tried to see some videos recorded with the motoblur camera ( gingerbread ) and the video stream has a looot of lag. Do i have to get some external codec or anything else? There is already any solution to this problem?
Third and last question, the default browser seems to crash sometimes after display frame rotation and doesn't work properly with some flash application. Solutions?
Thank you for your attention.

#1: Try using videocam illusion for videos, idk if it works with his latest build though.
#2: Try using a 3rd party aplication like Mobo player.
#3: Browser rotation hasnt been fixed yet, well it has but its only in the kitchen sink rom
as an option since it still has a.couple bugs. As for flash issues, make sure.you have.the latest version of flash installed.

Media Scanner issue on all cm10 based roms

Hi,
This is a unique kinda problem (not very unique actually but only faced by couple of people) on any cm10 based rom I have tried till now.
The issue is that after I properly flash the rom (yes, I have double checked and flashed roms exactly following OP's instructions in all cases), I find that pre-existing media files (pictures, music and videos) are not getting scanned at all and added to the stock gallery/music app. if I take any picture or upload any media using MTP with the rom, its added properly.
So, I have tried all suggestions (fixing permission, full wipe, delete .nomedia etc) and still no solutions. I am sure that the issue is with mediascanner and I have monitored it and found that eventhough I manually stop and start it using "Rescan Media ROOT", after runnnig for like 20-30 secs, it just says restarting again and again.
Additionally I have also found that when connecting via MTP, eventhough the SD Card and internal memory has alot of stuffs, they are not shown. So I think issue can be with the this also.
I've grown very frustated over last few days due to this and I cannot use any of the amazing cm10 roms that we have and have to go back to my old ics rom.
PLEAZZZ HELP !!!
I also encourage all others who are facing similar issue to post here which would definately help in understanding and fixing the issue.
Thanks !!!
really man? CM10 is not even beta yet. its got bugs. deal with them or use ICS. Im on ICS still due to them.
Complaining about bugs in a build that is so far from being stable, that'll cause trouble.

If it would be a bug in the build only, then it should have affected all who are using it, why only few are getting affected.
And yes, I know its not right to complain about still in beta cm10 releases and thats why I'm not bothering any Devs for it. I have started this thread in Q&A so that guys who are facing the issue can match the different conditions/scenarios it is happening as I know its not a coincidence that its happening on some devices and not on others.

Its either s/w or h/w man.
And from what I can tell its s/w. so its on them. get logs, and send them in.
Entropy has said to set screen to stay awake while charging in dev options. Then plug your phone into charger and reboot then give it about 15 min. to scan. This is to keep media scanner from eating battery, but you could try it and see if has any effect on your issue.

Yeah , my issue is completely opposite of what most guys were facing (which is supposedly been solved in latest builds). In my case, mediascanner is not running at all to scan all media.

I would do a clean install of cm10, and NOT use the root media scanner app, and then follow what entropy said (keep display on while it scans).
Also, go to manage apps and clear data on DRM, Galley, and Media storage. Reboot and then play some music through your favorite file explorer. The Media Scanner will rebuild data in about 10 minutes to half an hour (try to keep screen on if you can)

Just tried this as I'm having the same problem, no luck. My music player was working fine yesterday then it decided to forget where all the songs were.
Same problem here with Task's AOKP latest(04/9)
I didnt have any problem with the previous release... BUT:
What i already did:
1- Full wipe to flash the new aokp release.
Tibe restore the rescanMedia Root... didnt touch it.
Media not working
2- Flash again without full wipe. Media not working
searched for .nomedia files. No results.
3- Flash again with another full wipe plus system format.
Checked with no Apps installed, media scan not working.
Installed RescanMediaRoot... didnt work.
After that i quit and decided to sleep. All my work on it was with the phone pluged. I dont know why but after unpluged a few musics show up. Only 40 of 2000. No pics.
4-Full wipe + chache format + System format + flash the previous AOKP release. MEDIA NOT WORKING.
was working yesterday...
5- Nandroid restore to number 3.
Thats where i am now. Stuck with the problem with aparently any JB release.
PS. Any new pic shows on gallery...

I'm still facing the issue with apparently any JB build till now .. right from the first one entropy released as cm10 previes build and trust me , I tried all (well almost)
Now , from your problem it seems that once with some particular way of flashing roms, we do something that causes media scan to get corrupt..
Tell me this .. before when it was working.. have u ever tried going to gallery and then settings ?? I never got that menu on any JB release...
After making too much efforts in vain to get it right , I have resorted to the alternatives :
1. Quickpic as replacement to Gallery app.. Keep the default gallery app running for camera..
2. Poweramp full version as replacement to Music.. It has a folder rescan option under setting and searches all ur music..
3. MX video player for video playback.. However I still find few codecs doesn't support audio till now.. but it is issue with all roms for all people afaik..
Let me know if you find a solution and get it working again...
I'm on AOKP for months. Never used any other rom. Never even installed to see what happens.
So, recently Task release his JB AOKP. It is 1 week older and he released 3 or 4 builds.
The first release i did not installed, The second one was released on same day and i did a full wipe to install it from AOKP ICS.
So far everything was working good.
Then came another release, the 30/08. Installed without a full wipe, just dalvik and cache, and everything was working fine.
From the build 30/08 to the build 04/09 i did bought Tibu Pro.
So i did a full wipe to install the 04/09 and the bug show up as you can see on my previous post.
The weirdest thing is full wiping + format System + format cache + install an old AOKP(30/08) and the bug are still there.
Could be that app RescanMediaRoot? Do you have it?
what do this app do to disable the scan? If we disable and uninstall what happens?
I do have setting options on gallery but when i click it nothing happens. No setting there.
Edited:
I just checked BetterBatteryStats and it looks weird. No kernel wakelocks... not even 1.
The most interesting was the Partial wakelocks:
MediaScannerService is the number one with 12min. Its running but nothing changes.
I dont like poweramp cuz the AwesomeBeats wont work with it.

I don't think "rescan Media root' app has anything to do with it .. actually
in my case , I never had this working since the start and at that time I didn't even knew about this app.
I have also noticed the partial wakelocks and if you go to running apps , you will see media storage running when u start a music/gallery app , but nothing happens..
I did tried alot to figure the problem out and seek help from all dev's that I can from this one and i9100 forum , but no results.. So finally I made peace with the workaround I mentioned...
One thing you can try in ur case is full wipe + format system/cache/data and then install a ICS rom.. after reboot.. try any JB rom again....
Good luck !! :good:

I'l try that and repport back.
The problem with media on the external SD card I believe is directly due to the change made in the location of the external SD card card within the directory. Many apps were built for ICS and GB and so when the scan is performed, the app isn't picking up the external SD card which used to be found within the internal SD. Now if media scanner isn't finding media within the internal SD card, that is a whole different story. I have media on my internal SD card and it has worked flawlessly. If you have music on the extsd and are using poweramp you can go into setting and check the box for the extsd outside the internal SD storage and it imports fine. Oh, and I'm running the latest AOKP with the Fluxxi kernel.

I do have pics on the Camera360 folder(internal SD) and it wont show on gallery.
I'll wipe everything and flash JB without the external. But i just find out something strange.
Im on recovery right now and using the file explorer of MrRobinson aroma to test it.
looks like the external its NOT on MNT folder. There are not and MNT folder on root. The external is called Sdcard and there is an emmc folder that looks empty.
Is it right? I really dont know nothing about the folder structure.
Edited:
Second time on Aromas file manager the emmc show all files now.
I belive all this means nothing.
Not all file explorers are equal. You need a root explorer to see the folders. Your music if on the internal, should be in the Music folder following the path home/sdcard/Audio/Music. Pictures on internal should be under home/sdcard/DCIM/Camera. When the external sd card is inserted it should show up in three places. At the root of the directory, you will find it as home/extSdCard, then under home/mnt/extSdCard and finally under home/storage/sdcard1. sdcard is the internal memory. I just moved photos to my extSdCard and rebooted the phone and media scanner didn't find them and setting don't exist on the gallery so you can't direct it to the new path of the extSdCard. So, I just replicated what you have been experiencing. If you move your photos to the Camera folder following the path I listed they should show up. The only reason my music works on Poweramp is because I can go to settings and check the sdcard1 folder under storage. Man I hope you don't mind all this rambling I'm doing and I hope I'm not insulting your intelligence.
No you are not. All this is new to me.
Thanks for all the info. It helped me.
Problem is gonne here.
What I did was:
1- clear cache and dalvik
2- data/factory reset
3- format system
4- format cache
5- format data
6- format internal SD
7- installed latest AOKP+ Gapps. Task's gapps don't come with Gmusic so I installed from Justin's Aroma with 1 or 2 inverted and Apex as a system app. But I did installed the normal gapps before try the Aroma.
First boot fine. I did config WiFi and gaccount slowly.
I didn't let the screen turn off.
When I first open the Gmusic everything was there.
Then I installed Titanium backup pro and did my full restore.
Tested another player , Mixzing, and was all there.
I forgot to save any pic on external since I do have Dropbox and it send it to my PC asap. So I didn't worry about pics.
Everything is working!!!!

Then screen went black, and i realize that ALL MY MEDIA FILES ARE GONE. In this folder but in all other folders also. Like whatsapp folder all pictures are gone!
I think it is impossible to delete +300 pic and many videos in 1 sec, so can somone tell me where the hell is my all media files or are they really gone?

Read this >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/info-flashed-4-2-sdcard-data-t2274218 << and use a root explorer to search where it tells you..
This usually happens when installing a new rom as mentioned in the above guide..I have never known it to happen when changing folders but worth having a look anyway..

Hi, i did try do how this topic say, but i canĀ“t see any files still..

Is my storage completely broken?

Hello there.
My OnePlus 5T has got an issue today that is driving me crazy. Its storage is acting up in stupid ways.
I can browse its storage through the stock file manager and SD Maid without too many issues. However, everything else cannot access it, so it becomes impossible to save/download anything, upload anything, or even read anything (like these gallery pickers on social apps). Even the Play Store cannot update an app. I can't take screenshots either.
That OnePlus 5T is two years old and a half. I've tried removing a lot of files through SD Maid and nothing helps solving that issue. Rebooting my phone doesn't change anything either. Permissions are all good as well.
I haven't rooted my phone, however the bootloader is open.
Thanks for checking in.
It might be your File Explorer/Manager not showing the file i have that issue with Files by Google it doesn't show .img files on my sdcard and internal memory

As I pointed out in the first post, absolutely nothing shows up in Files by Google, stock Gallery app, or even Discord or Telegram. The Play Store cannot download anything, same for Google Chrome and any other apps. Somehow only the stock file explorer and SD Maid can manipulate storage without issues.
At random reboots I face the same issues too. Not sure why.

Did you manage to fix it? I've cleared the cache from the recovery menu and the problem persists, even after several reboots.
have you tried checking this app "Storage Permission" if they are allowed?

This was the first thing I checked and everything was okay. Double checked just in case and storage permissions are still granted.

Unfortunately no. I am using a Moto Z play rom and sadly rom development for my device is meager due to the unpopularity of the device. The storage permissions have been granted by me too but yet some apps completely hang and restart when I try to download in them. Browsers and all are working fine. Even download manager. It is stuffs like Edxposed which freezes when I click on download on a particular module. Same thing happens to certain other apps like image downloading apps. Storage permissions are intact. I'm on Lineage OS 16.
Another concerning issue is sometime both the inbuilt gallery app and Quickpic completely fail to recognize any images or videos. I did a clean install of the ROM too.
I can't take screenshots too (at times). I can download and upload anything with the help of solid explorer or es file manager. Camera app sometimes cannot save an image to its own storage even though permissions are intact.
Trying to download or update anything makes the Play store crash. Sometimes it updates, mostly it crashes. Things get way annoying when I'm urgently trying to download an app and play store just rage quits on me.

.miuigallery files on the SD card

Since the update to MIUI Global 12.0.2, my Poco F1 stores a .miuigallery file on the SD card every time I take a screenshot.
In the course of time, this becomes a very large number of files.
Does any of you know what that means, or how to end it.

Silly me. Why didn't I come up with it myself?
I have the same issue and certainly it is not linked with screenshots, as I'm not doing them so frequently - and I have these files created several times a day.
Edit: did some digging here and there and this is a general problem with the current version of MIUI gallery, it creates this file every time launched.
There are some posts saying that updating it to the version 2.2.16.19 solves the problem, unfortunately this version is not yet generally available. You can get it from third-party sites (like APKMirror), though.

Thanks for this advice.
I downloaded and installed version 2.2.16.26 of APKmirror.
Seems like that actually solves the problem. :good:
