curtana vs excalibur - Redmi Note 9S / Note 9 Pro (Indian Model) Question

Hi,
I would like to know which one will be more popular in terms of custom rom development. Or does that not matter much? I would like to get excalibur but does that mean it will lack stuff compared to curtana in the long run?

Look at the current development, the amount of threads, roms, then you should find the answer about the probabilities for the one or the other device.

Thanks for the reply. I can totally see that curtana has taken off in development and excalibur is not that active. Is that because it was launched 2 months later? I see that both share the same kernel source. So wanted to get others opinion on it.

Should I buy this phone?

Hi guys, I'm considering buying this phone, but I haven't used Xiaomi before
Right now I have a Huawei P8 and I regret buying it, pretty great specs but the firmware (i.e. bootloader, drivers) and software (their Android build) is crap. I recently installed CyanogenMod which is already a huge improvement, but the battery is only 2600mA and it's aged, so I don't even get a half day of medium high usage (watching videos, web, etc)
What I would like to know is mainly about the MIUI business
Huawei emui is crap, so please tell me whatever you want about Xiaomi's one
Also should I get the mtk or the sd version? Are there any other differences?
Is there anything you dislike about your note 4? I didn't do my homework before buying my P8, so please be honest with any problems you have with the phone
Feel free to ask me for clarification or additional preferences if I've left out anything
I feel I should mention that I'm a power user
I will definitely want to root my new phone, probably Xposed too, and if I don't like Xiaomi's ROM, then I'll probably use lineage OS
On that note, how easy is it to do the above? Should I be satisfied with MIUI?

You can play with your phone whatever you want, there are tons of roms available right now, rooting and flashing is easy, but I think unlocking the dayyym bootloader might take few days.
If you don't like Miui, you can always switch, Infact i dont like Miui its sucks for me. I left Miui like long ago, I won't be reverting to Miui anytime soon.
Its depends, some of em likes Miui, most of em' don't, custom Roms FTW!!
Battery is great, camera is also good.. [sorry I dont take photos, I dunno about quality ??]
Go get it, that's all I'd like to say!
Careful it has two variant; Snapdragon and Mediatek SoC. If you're custom ROM's addict, pick the SD ones.

I'm very much the same, almost never use camera. I've heard MIUI has beat features, like the double account thing. But you're right, if I don't like it there's always another ROM (in which case the Snapdragon would be better since more ROMs)

Yes I noticed from browsing the forums, but I mean I'm generally very content with Cyanogen, so I don't think I need too much variety.
The having to wait to get bootloader code sounds similar to Huawei, but what a large portion of Huawei users didn't know about was the website that let you fill in your details and instantly get a code (Huawei website, not shady stuff)

Read post #7
Edit: I looked through the Snapdragon ROMs
Seems it's all basically MIUI or cyanogen variants
(i.e they look similar to my current ROM)
So although "mido" has more ROMs, it seems to be more of the same

Well, I got it.
CM is dead and LineageOS is the new CM now.
But but.. If I were you I'd like to choose SD variant over an MTK one, because of development.
The stable Roms you get, when EOL of a device then there might be newer android versions via custom roms, where as MTK variant stuck, if you look in the MTK variant roms, kernel sections, you'll get it.
check on miui website for locked bootloader and you will definitely avoid this great but due to lock phone.

im pretty sure with 8 cores its not gonna stutter. my mothers phone is a dual core and there's only a tiny wait (less than a second i think) before an app launches

Custom ROMs

So, I know our device is still very young and really doesn't need much improvements. However, I wanted to start a discussion about future ROMs. When do you think we'll start seeing them released? Are there any in the works that are in alpha and need testers? Which ROMs would you like to see for the pixel 3?

Only a couple on xda, obviously. You could always look elsewhere.
I know that there's a few here now, which is great. I don't know if I'd test another site for ROMs, not saying that other site are bad , just been here a while and trust the devs here. Thanks for commenting didn't think I'd get one to be honest.

Hello , i am sorry to ask this kind of question. but are there any news about ?
Hello
I want to calm everybody down. This phone hasn´t been released yet in all countries. I bought it today as it was released today in Poland.
It will take time for devs to get the phone, wait for bootloader unblocking and then make something that at least boots and has WiFi.
I'm sure this phone will be popular, because there's not much difference between this and pro version.

Yes but K20/pro are quit long time in released, and much better support is for k20pro model, even in developer and stable chines firmwares. ( so it means in EU ROMs too. ) K20/pro models are exactly same as mi9t/pro, just missing band20 . we can use same roms.
I hope k20/mi9t will be popular as you said, but i am not so optimistic

Yeah, no much difference apart from completely different SOC. So, basically in terms of development, that makes it completely different and developing is being done from scratch. Especially if we take into consideration that SD 730 is quite new. So, sorry, but no sorry. The development will take time.

Yeah, also in my opinion it would make sense that the two phones (k20 pro and the Mi9T) had different forums. Yes they are similar in hardware but the most important part, the SOC is entirely different.
The k20/mi9t has been launched in India, it's a bit overpriced here, many devs here aren't buying it probably, they are instead buying k20pro/mi 9t pro, so development might be slow and less.
In the near future there will be nothing custom?
There are some roms in development on this site:
https://mifirm.net/model/davinci.ttt#other-other
You can also get all the stable versions available (eu/china/global) and a twrp recovery there.
Has anyone started building roms?

As far as i understand:
k20 = mi9t
(k20 pro = mi9t pro)

7 Pro vs 7T Pro (SUPPORT FOR MODS)

Hello guys. Ill keep things simple. Which of the two has better custom ROMS, Kernels recoveries and all that?
That was the question. I want to buy a phone and my decision will be based off of those things. Which has more up to date roms, most stable, better camera port etc
Sorry if this has been already asked but i cant find the info anywhere.
Crap i posted this in the wrong category

What's is the best rom based on Android 12 or 11 for poco f1?

I asked that question cuz i tiered from searching and testing the roms.
There is no clear answer to the question of the best custom ROM, because in addition to the properties and features of the ROM, a great deal depends on the expectations of the user.
Therefore, testing is the only way to find a ROM for yourself or (mostly) to stay with a stock ROM or buy another device.

Please post on the proper section. This thread doesn't belong on the Develpment Section. Dev section is for ROMs/Kernels.
To answer your question, check my POCO F1 Ultimate Collection & Guides. Awarded ROMs are the most popular and "stable". There a lot of ROMs that comes and goes so choose accordingly.
Ok, i didn't know, sorry.

crDroid and AwakenOS currently offer the best package experience for user out of the box in my opinion without that means other ROMs aren't good.
They both are Encrypted, have SELinux Enforcing, the SafetyNet pass out of the box, are Debloated, are Popular with Active & Stable Development, provide Translations in your native language, have OTA and are Highly Customizable to cover every taste with the settings they offer.
As I said other ROMs are also good, don't hesitate to test them but this is my opinion.
Thx
