Was anyone able to install Magisk?
Whenever I try to install Magisk I get stuck in a Bootloop at the Google Logo.
Doesn't matter if I do KEEPFORCEENCRYPT=true & KEEPVERITY=true in the .magisk for or false.
Wanted to test disable DM-Verity but TWRP is unable to mount /system_root (Neither TWRP 3.4.0.0 or 3.3.1 work)
My Phone has an encrypted Storage if that helps narrowing down the issue

download both files, twrp.img and the twrp.zip, fastboot boot twrp.img then once in TWRP flash the twrp.zip...note, make sure to remove any PIN, password or any security on the ROM first, or else it will not decrypt:good:

No TWRP permanently installed. Temporary boot into TWRP using fastboot flashed magisk.
Magisk 19.3 or 20.4 both work
Just don't set any pin/password lock on the rom

Does that mean that you actually managed it to install TWRP permanently on a Pixel XL running the latest version on any Android 10 ROMs?
And what about when there's an OTA available. Do you have to reflash it then?
I'm seriously impressed, because TWRP themselves said flashing TWRP on Android 10 wouldn't be possible yet (at least on Marlin)
And last, but not least, can I put the pin/password/safety features back to activation after I installed TWRP?

How you mangaed to install TWRP on Android 10?
When I flashed TWRP after installing custom rom my phone won't boot. I have to flash a stock image to make it boot.

Yup, I'm on Bliss rom right now, tried all except GSI treble. When I'm doing update, I reboot to TWRP and wipe system and cache then flash the new update afterwards flash TWRP.ZIP again.
Can't install TWRP permanently, you need to flash it everytime you are doing an upgrade, that's just me

Head back over to the TWRP screen on your phone and swipe the slider that says "Swipe to Allow Modifications" if needed. Now you should be sitting on the TWRP main menu where you can then go into the "Advanced" section. From there, tap the "Install Recovery Ramdisk" option, and finally, navigate to the "Download" folder where you copied the TWRP image file.
Tap the image file once to bring up the "Install Recovery" main screen and check the "Back up existing image first" option to backup your current recovery for safekeeping. Now slide the "Swipe to Install" button at the bottom to begin installing the permanent version of TWRP onto your system partition. After it finishes installing, press the home button, go to "Reboot," then "Recovery".

Moto X4 is getting some custom rom love, because @erfanoabdi worked in BEAST mode and created the trees for this device, even though he does not own the device.
Obligatory Warning: This guide and ROM assumes you know the fundamentals of fastboot, flashing TWRP, and running a flash all. Your warranty is voided because of the unlocked bootloader. This is a Third Party ROM. Things may not work as expected compared to stock (for better or for worse).
Warning 2: If you can't do fastboot commands, do a flash all, root your device or flash TWRP/ROM, please do not ask for help here. If you cannot flash all back to stock, please stay stock for everyone's sake.
Warning 3: if you don't flash the firmware zip so both slots have the firmware, when you boot after flashing, you WILL have a bootloop or even a brick.
Warning 4 : This is an Engineering build, which means it's pre rooted and all apps have access to root. Only the SU binary is missing.
Warning 5 : Kernel is permissive.
This is an initial release and it WILL have bugs. If your phone is a daily, and you cannot afford downtime or random reboots then please do not flash.
I am new to this, DO NOT expect fixes on the fly. Post logcats and I will see what I can do.

How to Boot into fastboot/bootloader mode
1. Reboot phone, and keep volume down pressed while device is rebooting until you see bootloader mode screen.
2. While phone is off, press volume down and then press power button. Keep holding both until you see bootloader mode screen.
How to Install
Video is for LineageOS, but process is same for Carbon ROM as well.
Video
Moto X4 A/B Slots Explained
Steps
1. Download the ROM, TWRP (zip and Image), Gapps (optional) from Downloads section. Place TWRP image zip in same folder as where you have fastboot.
2. Prepare your phone for AOSP style ROMs. (download one of the firmwares depending on your model). Boot into bootloader mode.
Flash the firmware with the flash_all.bat (Windows) file or the flash_all.sh (Linux & Mac) (See links on Post #2).
Windows
Code:
flash_all.bat
Mac/Linux
Code:
./flash_all.sh
Tested only on XT1900-1 on Android 8.0 model for now. Feel free to try on other models. Check for any errors in the process, DO NOT proceed if you have any errors. Once flashed successfully, reboot into Android to make sure all is well.
Windows
Code:
fastboot reboot
Mac/Linux
Code:
./fastboot reboot
3. Wipe internal data. Reboot back into bootloader mode and run the command "fastboot -w" (this will erase EVERYTHING from your phone, even internal SD, but is needed to have these ROMs work). Make sure to remove your external sdcard before doing this. Once done, REBOOT into Android to make sure all is well. Skip all the setups.
Windows
Code:
fastboot -w
Mac/Linux
Code:
./fastboot -w
4. Transfer ROM zip and TWRP zip to internal memory of device. Reboot device into bootloader mode.
5. Boot to TWRP using fastboot. Using command prompt/terminal navigate to folder where fastboot is.
Windows
Code:
fastboot boot twrp-3.2.1-1-payton.img
Mac/Linux
Code:
./fastboot boot twrp-3.2.1-1-payton.img
5. Once booted into TWRP, click on Install - and select TWRP zip transferred in Step 1. Once done, Reboot back into system to check all is well.
6. Boot into TWRP again (reboot device, keep volume down pressed while device is rebooting. When you see bootloader mode, let go of volume down. Press volume up until you see recovery mode, press power button to select. Now you will boot into TWRP recovery).
8. Once in TWRP. Go to Wipe and swipe to factory reset. Go back, select Install and select Linage OS Rom zip, also add the TWRP zip file and click on install. Once done, wipe cache/dalvik.
Do note, recovery is built into kernel with our device so flashing any rom or kernel will result in TWRP being overwritten. DO NOT flash Magisk (any root package) or Gapps. Once ROM (and optional TWRP) have flash successfully, go to main menu :-
Now you have two options. If you WANT gapps do step 9. else go to 10. If you install gapps after booting into rom, gapps will crash. So, make your choice now.
9. Go back to TWRP main menu. Click on reboot, note down the slot you are on and select recovery.
You will now boot back into TWRP recovery. Click on reboot, and you should be on the other slot. Go back to main menu, transfer the gapps package to internal memory and install gapps.
10. Go back to TWRP main menu. click on reboot and select bootloader.
11. Once in bootloader mode. issue below command.
Windows
Code:
fastboot -w
Mac/Linux
Code:
./fastboot -w
Once done, reboot.
Windows
Code:
fastboot reboot
Mac/Linux
Code:
./fastboot reboot
11. To ROOT, booting into Android once is necessary whether you want gapps or not. After booting into Android once reboot back into TWRP, and then flash your root package zip, reboot and enjoy.
How to Update
Transfer rom, gapps and twrp zip to internal storage.
Boot to TWRP.
flash Rom + TWRP zip
Boot back to TWRP recovery
Flash GApps
Wipe Cache + Dalvik
Reboot to System
Coming from Another custom ROM, have already flashed firmware zip
Transfer rom, gapps and twrp zip to internal storage.
Boot to TWRP.
Wipe -> Swipe to factory reset
flash Rom + TWRP zip
Boot back to TWRP recovery
Flash GApps
Wipe Cache + Dalvik
Reboot to System

3rd PARTY ADDONS/MODS :
While we have no issues with people using supersu/magisk/xposed/custom kernels/etc, we can't provide support for users who have them installed.
This thread is not the right place to discuss about mods/addons.
Reporting Bugs :
DO NOT Report bugs if you installed Xposed.
DO NOT Report bugs about Magisk Modules.
Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
If it is a random reboot, grab /sys/fs/pstore/console-ramoops and /sys/fs/pstore/dmesg-ramoops-0. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)
Remember to provide as much info as possible. The more info you provide, the more likely that the bug will be solved. Please also do not report known issues. Any bug not reported in the bug report format above may be ignored.

Lineage is pure stock android, whereas Carbon offer some customizations! I have not tried the ROM yet, i am on RR right now! But as far as I know, it is going to be stable! :fingers-crossed:
I would like to try this ROM, however, I'm hesitant to due to I have the TWRP v 3.2.1-0 which doesn't make nandroid backups that can be restored.
Does the posted TWRP version (3.2.1-1) make restorable nandroid backups?

I've restored from a nandroid on the newest twrp and haven't had an issue. Just remove any pin or lockscreen security before buying into twrp or you can't decrypt.

Copy that. I don't have lock screen enabled, just the 'screen saver' that shows when phone senses motion nearby and shows the clock, etc.
Appreciate the clarification.

Follow-up question to your reply:
When you made your backup, did you include System Image? If so, when you restored did you enable Boot, Data, System and/or System Image?

I did whatever the default in TWRP was, backup and restore. I googled what I should do but there wasn't anything definite. I did get an error 255 from resting the Bluetooth thing so i just omitted it.
I'm on the fence looking at these new custom ROMs available for our X4, so please help me clarify a few points:
1) does Lineage have the option to set navigation bar height? If I'll take the plunge I'm interested in having a navigation bar narrower than Android' standard;
2) is it possible to tweak the kernel with Kernel Adiutor or something similar?
3) is it possible to install and use Moto Display in some way?
Thanks!
P.S. Plese bear with me as I'm asking the same questions all over the three custom ROMs threads.

DON'T FLASH IF YOU ARE ALREADY ON EMUI 9, IT WON'T BOOT!!
IMPORTANT!
Before you start flashing, make sure you are using a version of TWRP with encryption disabled, otherwise you might end up using eRecovery to rescue your device from a bootloop!
You can also use official TWRP, but it will only work until you have not flashed the ROM!
Unofficial TWRP: https://storage.codebucket.de/public/twrp-3.2.2-0-berkeley.img
(That's not mine actually, I found that on Telegram and uploaded it to my mirror)
Flashing instructions from stock EMUI
Make sure you have TWRP installed and working!!
Reboot phone into recovery mode
Go to "Wipe" and select "Format data", then confirm with yes (some devices might require to disable encryption, see post #54)
Then go to "Advanced" and select /system, /data, /cache and Dalvik-cache for wipe
Copy ROM zip over to your phone (use whatever works for you, I personally use adb push)
Go to "Install" and select the ROM zip (and Magisk if you want), swipe to flash
Done! You can now reboot to system.
Update instructions
Simply go to TWRP and wipe /system, /cache and Dalvik-cache, then flash the update ROM zip and all additional stuff you need.
I also recommend having a backup of boot ramdisk to install Magisk again on a stock boot ramdisk.
Where is the source code of the device tree?
I combined all commits needed to run this ROM into one organization, you can inspect the source code here:
https://github.com/berkeley-pie
Device tree used for this ROM: https://github.com/divadsn/android_device_huawei_berkeley
My submitted patches: https://gerrit.pixelexperience.org/#/q/topic:huawei-derps+(status:open+OR+status:merged)
Special thanks go to @flex1911, @sirhc and @LuK1337 for your hard work, without your commits I wouldn't be able to get this ROM booting for the Honor View 10!
Where are the experimental builds gone?
They are still available on my mirror: https://mirror.codebucket.de/pixelexperience/berkeley/experimental/
But please be aware that those aren't official and you will loose OTA support!

Hi, is there a guide to follow for installing this rom? I read aosp and i thought to flash system.img through fastboot with stock recovery but i found many files and system is a .br file. Do i need twrp?
Thanks
How do you get this to boot? I have L09 and have wiped all partitions via twrp and stock recovery yet still bootlooping. I have even tried adb sideload and nothing.

You need to format data and remove encryption. The procedure is as follow: Download stock firmware using eRecovery, flash TWRP, format data in wipe, reboot TWRP and flash ROM.
Will include some instructions to the #2 post soon.

So dalvik/art cache are to be removed and data and system are formatted?
'update.zip' is the generic name for your rom?
Do the rom and magisk have to be sideloaded? They can't be flashed via twrp?

Update.zip is the placeholder, you have to type the path yourself to the downloaded file. Also sideload is a feature in TWRP.

IMPORTANT!
Before you start flashing, make sure you are using a version of TWRP with encryption disabled, otherwise you might end up using eRecovery to rescue your device from a bootloop!
Unofficial TWRP: https://storage.codebucket.de/public/twrp-3.2.2-0-berkeley.img
(That's not mine actually, I found that on Telegram and uploaded it to my mirror)
Flashing instructions
Reboot phone into recovery mode
Go to "Wipe" and select "Format data", then confirm with yes
Then go to "Advanced" and select /system and /data for wipe
Return back to home and go to "Settings" to enable "Remove instead formatting"
Go back to "Wipe" => "Advanced" and select /cache and Dalvik-cache to wipe
Reboot to recovery and connect to your PC via USB
Select "Advanced" and "Adb Sideload" to start flashing
On your PC open a terminal and type "adb sideload update.zip", hit enter
Now repeat that procedure if you want to flash Magisk
Done! You can now reboot to system.

Install Question
Very much curious, why couldn't we simply flash the rom through TWRP? Why through ADB Sideload? Just curious, since I've only ever used sideload for official ROMs, but never for custom ones Will try this out soon though! Love Pixel Experience ROMs! Thank you for the hard work!
Is volte working in this Rom?

You flash the ROM using ADB Sideload because the TWRP I have used has not working MTP, therefore I have no other way to copy the ROM over. But if you have a version of TWRP which works with Pie and has working MTP then go ahead

Update available!
This is hopefully the last unofficial build, as I have pushed the patches made by flex1911 to PixelExperience Gerrit, so we can apply for official device status.
Oh and this build has fixed a derp I made when I cherry-picked a patch, sorry

Should work, but I can't guarantee, I use a BKL-L04.
Does wifi hotspot work?
Nice work! Working great on BKL-L04 flashed on top of GPU Turbo update.
Next update, should disable nav bar when registering fingerprint. Part of my thumb keeps hitting the home button.
Edit- after registering FP in security settings, device went black and became unresponsive.

I present to you: Kali NetHunter for the Nokia 6.1 LOS17.1
Kali NetHunter is an Android ROM overlay that turns an ordinary phone into the ultimate Mobile Penetration Testing Platform.
The overlay includes a custom kernel, a Kali Linux chroot, an accompanying Android application, which allows for easier interaction with various security tools and attacks, as well as a client to the Kali NetHunter App Store.
Beyond the penetration testing tools arsenal within Kali Linux and the Kali NetHunter App Store, NetHunter also supports several additional classes, such as HID Keyboard Attacks, BadUSB attacks, Evil AP MANA attacks, and much more. For more information about the moving parts that make up NetHunter, check out our NetHunter Components page.
NetHunter is an open-source project developed by Offensive Security and the community.

Good point to test out. Make sure you have encryption disabled otherwise it can cause issues. Just flash your Pixel rom instead of my Linage step. Kernel should be fine as long as it's Android 10. Please let me know how was it.

Unfortunately not, but support for that could come soon as it's similar. I'm too busy right now so it could be a few months unless you want to prepare same as above, but use generic arm64 nethunter zip from next release. (sometime in November) and I might be able to send you a test kernel by that time

Haha thanks, easy enough
So my bootloader is unlocked and I used the recommended OSTLA to flash "PL2-351F-0-00WW-B04.full.zip" from "https://fih-firmware.hikaricalyx.com/hmd_en.html". I used "Normal Download" and "Check System AP Status" default options. Once flashed, I got a factory reset menu, selected yes and was able to boot into the stock android 9 - March 1, 2019 security patch level. Now when trying to boot into TWRP to really get started I get stuck at the TWRP splash screen. Can you provide any guidance on getting booted into TWRP properly?

Simply set A as active with
Code:
fastboot --set-active a
. Btw TWRP should boot without that, as you would format data later 2x (before and after LOS17 flashing)
Waiting for my Nokia to get through customs... It was a cheap replacement for my overly abused Mi 9T. I was wondering if we get monitor mode on the internal with this latest release. I loved that the Xiaomi didn't need an external... Keeping my fingers crossed.

Installation procedure:
There are two methods to install OrangeFox
A) Via a recovery (for those with TWRP installed):
1. To install an OrangeFox zip, flash it with OrangeFox (or any TWRP-compatible custom recovery) without any wipes.
2. Do the same thing if you want to upgrade OrangeFox
3. When you flash an OrangeFox zip, there is no need to flash any DFE or any other such thing
4.To install an OrangeFox img file, boot into fastboot mode, and run the command: fastboot flash recovery OrangeFox-xyz.img
B) Via Fastboot (For those without a recovery):
You need a PC for this. If you do not have a PC, or access to a PC, then you are stuck!
1. Unlock your bootloader (if not already unlocked)
2. Install adb, fastboot and the relevant USB drivers onto your PCs)
3. Download the correct OrangeFox zip file to your phone, and to your PC
4. Extract recovery.img from the OrangeFox zip file, and copy recovery.img to your PC’s adb directory
5. Reboot your phone into fastboot/bootloader mode
6. Open up a command line window / terminal emulator on your PC
7. Change to the adb directory on your PC
8. Flash OrangeFox Recovery by using the fastboot flash recovery recovery.img command
9. Reboot into OrangeFox by pressing the power + volume down keys, until you see the OrangeFox splash screen
11. After OrangeFox has booted up, check that everything is working – eg, that it has mounted the data partition successfully, and that the touchscreen works.
12. Find and select the OrangeFox zip on your phone, tap on it, and swipe to install it (because OrangeFox Recovery needs some files from the zip)
After installation, the phone will automatically reboot into OrangeFox
Enjoy!

Hello, does password encryption work with Android 11? Do you know or I should try and let you know? Recovery seems very nice. First time I changed from TWRP and I think I'll stay. Good Job!!
Edit: I know it says "Password Protection" in the main post. What I meant is can it decrypt with password?

I wanted to mention that when fully customizing the recovery things can get really laggy making it difficult to use. I can't exactly tell the setting I had because I set everything to default for fluidity. However please work on the speed and smoothness!

Did you try rebooting into the recovery after you customised? I should also point out the recovery doesn't utilise a phone's complete power. It's limited so there are always no animations and everything feels sudden, that's a limitation for twrp Ofox and everything else I've used.

Well yes, of course. Everything seems to work fine after a few minutes but still very laggy at start and that can be a bit annoying for things like pattern lock and such. I'm not runny any customizations as of now things work good.
Tried PIN and it doesn't decrypt. It's no problem, got used to it(lol) but I'm just letting you know.

I wanted to consult your team and members about a possible OrangeFox Recovery and a Rom A10 or A11 for a seperate device not OnePlus 5T. If you are interested, Pm me. Or message me on Telegram @MrConkel Payment is available for this project but is very limited. More details can be discussed after you pm or message me. Appreciate your time..
I like this recovery. It works with encryption in android 10. However, it did not work with encryption in android 11! Is it only me?
Hello!
Received an Oneplus 5T from China a few days ago, (still) running OxygenOS 9.0.9 A5010_43_191008. Gonna install some custom ROM as usual, so just unlocked its bootloader.
Saw this post about OrangeFox recovery, and considering what I've been reading in the [OFFICIAL][RECOVERY] [TWRP] TWRP for OnePlus 5T thread I feel like I'm going to put my faith in this recovery.
I have a question, though. According to what I read in the TWRP thread, the custom recovery gets killed by the stock ROMs. Is this serious?

Just
curiosity. I guess that means I should straight install my custom ROM of choice just after the recovery, period.

Flash lineage recovery
Only the provided lineage recovery will be supported,
using TWRP might result in a possible data loss!!
If using Odin rename the lineage recovery image for your model to recovery.img and add it to a .tar archive using e.g 7zip.
If using Heimdall use: heimdall flash --RECOVERY recovery.img --no-reboot
Boot lineage recovery
IMPORTANT: Do not boot into system again before booting recovery, or system will restore stock recovery!
If using Odin untick auto-reboot before flashing.
After flashing reboot by pressing Volume Down and Power for approximately 7 seconds,
immediately hold Volume Up, Bixby and Power to boot recovery
boot recovery via Volume Up, Bixby and Power.
Factory reset using Factory reset -> Format data/factory reset
Warning: Unlike TWRP this will also erase internal storage!
Sideload LineageOS by enabling sideload via Apply Update -> Apply from ADB
Then run adb sideload <path to your lineage.zip> on your PC
Optional:
Sideload GApps and magisk by repeating above step
with their zip/apk
This build does not use the stock vendor, instead it's built on top of new trees, which have been worked on for some time. The source is on our github, link in OP. You also get a few neat features like fingerprint gestures, and bixby button that actually works with both normal and long press.
I suggest using OpenCamera since stock one has some issues with flash.
These builds are signed with our release keys.
star2lte and crownlte support will come a bit later as i don't own the devices, but they will be supported eventually.
THESE BUILDS HAVE FORCE ENCRYPTION ENABLED, AND ONLY LINEAGE RECOVERY IS SUPPORTED. THESE THINGS WILL NOT CHANGE. IF YOU DON'T USE LINEAGE RECOVERY, AND SUFFER FROM DATA LOSS, DON'T COMPLAIN HERE.

I tried to reflash through ADB twice, but still boot-looping. Had to go back to build 20220219.
Any suggestions?
I did not flash the recovery partition again - is it necessary?

I did not have any issue when replacing stock fw with this latest build. Used Lineage recovery to clear data/cache and installed via adb. No boot-loops. Very smooth.

Can you provide a local_manifest to build yourself for crownlte (19, 19.1) please?
Thanks..
Is it possible to get an answer here?

Samsung proprietary feature. Wont work on AOSP ROMs. There are patched apks available for Samsung health and Wearable but not for S-Pen.
