Note 10 N970F Development Support - Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello everyone.
I got my Note 10 N970F rooted after using stock for 3 months. Been searching for a perfect rom for quite a time but could't find any here. I occured to me that Note 10+ has been source as some developer also used to release updates for our N970F as well.
I don't know how many people still got that device and are desiring for custom rom. If there are people who want to use custom rom on N970F, I am posting link to 2 threads which hold best custom rom found on Note 10. Apparently, they have decided to stop developing on N970F. If you could head over to their thread and write about your interest in support for N970F. As developer told that they are ending support because of now user feedback.

[Q] A few doubts regarding rom Development

Hi, I am a java developer by profession and for my own interest want to learn android development .I am more inclined towards rom development rather than kernel or app.I have a few doubts that arose as soon as I got into it.
I searched the forum but couldn't get a clear answer but rather I was confused. So i am putting all my doubts here as questions and request people to comment or give answers or direct me to links that may help clear my doubts.Since I own a note 3 N9005 Its easy for me to test the result if I develop for note 3 itself.
1. Recently android 5 has been released for galaxy s5 .Is it possible to port it for note 3 when there is no base rom of android 5 for note 3 ?
2. Android 4.4.4 has not been officially released for note 3. How come touchwiz based ported rom exists for note 3 ie where did the base rom came from for porting ?
3. In the aosp source page, list of devices does not contains note 3 does it mean that developing from source for note 3 is much complicated than nexus 5 or 7 ?
4. Is there any android kitchen for android 5 ?
5. Are there tutorials which are easy to understand for newbie like me? I mean most of the tutorials I find starts at mid level and ends with pace.I request the members of this forum to please spare some time to help me out.
Thanks
Is there any one who can clear my doubts?

[Q] Dearth of Custom ROMs for Samsung Galaxy Note 5(Exynos variety)

Hi,
This is my first post on XDA, so please let me know if I violated any rules of this forum.
I have observed that there is a dearth of custom ROMs for Samsung devices with Exynos chipsets in general. Since the manufacturer doesn't provide much support/update after ~2 years, i think it there should be a way to increase the life of the device.
As an example, I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 (SM N920G) running Android Nougat and i couldn't find any ROM with Android Oreo supporting this device.
I have no knowledge of Android ROM development, so please forgive me if my questions are stupid or too basic.
1. How difficult is it to create a custom ROM in general and does Samsung make it difficult for developers by not releasing the kernel sources?
2. If the devices share a common chipset, how difficult is it to port the custom ROM to make it work for another device? Ex: If there is a custom ROM working for Samsung Galaxy S6, how much work does it require to make it work for Galaxy Note 5 as well?
I was desperate to try Android Oreo on my device and i have some time to burn this weekend. So i was wondering if i could try and create a custom ROM for myself.
I've also searched XDA and found some guides which were written for Marshmallow/Nougat. I am not sure if the same methods can work for Android Oreo as well.
I am looking for any inputs/suggestions and any sources you could point me to in my attempt to learn.

Why there isn't any development with custom kernels for MIUI roms?

Hi friends and dear developers..
I've been in this community since many years. I've been using Sony phones and then xiaomi phones.
> I've always seen that there are most kernels developed only for Cyanogen(now Lineage) based ROMs.
I accept that Lineage based ROMS are much much better in terms of performance and fluidity, and I love many roms out there.
But I always see xiaomi users get back to MIUI one day or another, since it has it own advantages, especially looks.
So my real query is, why don't we concentrate atleast a little on kernels for MIUI roms as well??
So friends, kindly share your views and suggestions, so that developers might take a look into this.
Love you all for your valuable time and knowledge. :good::highfive:

MIUI is outdated most of us using XDA only use custom ROMs,take me for an example I used MIUI in my redmi 3s only initial 3~5 months after that when I heard xioami won't upgrade redmi 3s to nougat ,I switched to custom ROM since then I never gone back to MIUI ,heck I even forgot I'm using xiaomi device.
There is bunch of up-to-date Oreo custom ROMs available for our device,as for MIUI it only stuck in Android marshmallow with April 2017 security patch which is one year old.so do u really think developers should care about MIUI?if normal users don't want to use MIUI ,then why should developers waste their time to create kernel, which nobody gonna use? Besides kernel development for our device is generally not that great compared to santoni and other redmi devices,so yeah this my opinion on this matter,if in future xiaomi decided to upgrade all devices to up-to-date Android(which I doubt),I'm sure developers will create more kernels for MIUI,even then custom ROMs will always dominate.
As for themes, since you're not new here, you at least heard about substratum theme engine/OMS give it a try,it's better than MIUI theming.
If you really want to stick to MIUI (official or custom Marshmallow based) you can use PerXepted kernel by Nichcream : https://forum.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-redmi-3s/development/kernel-perxepted-16-aug-t3657329
It is excellent.

Thank you for your detailed explanation. And i totally agree with you buddy.. Except the fact that there are end users who still love MIUI (even though android version isn't updated and yes it sucks very much)..
And yes I have used substratum theme engine, its really great though

Yeah bro I have used it already.. It haven't been updated since long... And I hope it won't be updated anymore....
Because like SMR96 bro said, miui isn't updated (in terms of android version or security patch). Hence developers won't take much interest in updating kernel for an outdated ROM

It has been updated in january 2018, this is not so bad. The real problem is due to MIUI security patch level, april 2017 is not acceptable.
But sadly, nobody tried to add new security patch to MIUI.

Are there any chances of development here? HELP

I wonder is there gonna be any custom rom development for this phone.. As of now forum is barren as no kerelnel sources available.. but are they gonna release kernel sources.
Even after kernel sources become available is there any guarantee ofbl development? as realme 2 pro with good specs and released kernel sources still have barren forum.
If anyone can help plz help otherwise i will have to go to redmi note 7 pro as it has got official custom roms from now on.
I have already raised this concern. The development seems to be dead even before it started.
It's so annoying using phone without root and Xposed
We could all tweet the CEO may be ?

General question about custom ROM

Hello guys,
I'm thinking about getting a custom ROM on my p20 lite. I'm an absolute beginner in this topic tho.
I've already looked up how to get a bootloader code via PotatoNV and how to root the phone with TWRP.
While looking for a ROM that suits my needs I realized that it's not that easy like I first thought it was.
For example LOS for p20 lite is not maintained anymore and I stumbled across multiple reports that the camera or fingerprint sensor did not work after installing a custom rom.
Therefore, my question is: Is there a ROM for my p20 lite that is stable enough to use it as a daily driver without the need of countless hours of fixing errors?
I'm not that picky when it comes to the different OS. I just don't want to use EMUI anymore because it feels like the Chinese can see anything I do (totally regret buying this phone btw)
Any help or opinions are very appreciated! Thank you very much!
Model: ANE-LX1
Build: 9.1.9.377
EMUI: 9.1.0

Sorry to sound rude here, but maybe if you try to read whole section you would find the answer...
https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/anne
"Warning: The Huawei P20 Lite is no longer maintained. A build guide is available for developers that would like to make private builds, or even restart official support."
The problem is that I don't understand most of the stuff. But This TWRP is DISCONTINUED, "I have unlocked my device and is currently running LineageOS 16 from OpenKirin. There are a few things which does not work, like the camera app that comes with the OS as well as the notch, where icons goes beyond the notch.", "These gapps are unofficial and are in beta stage so you can maybe face a lot of crases", .... sound like I have to put in a lot of effort into this. I'm wondering if it's worth the time if in the end it doesn't work anyway.
A good choice is CAOS. There are a lot of users here running it. And @-Alf- gives great support as long as you read the forum and follow given links.
