Hello, I'd be interested in rooting my Galaxy Tab S3 as I'm constantly running out of space and I'd like to use Link2SD. I have never rooted before so I want to be sure I'm not making mistakes. It's running Android 9.0 and One UI 1.1. My main concern is that I want to make sure my data doesn't get removed, I'm only interested in being granted root access for Link2Sd. I also dont know which programs or sites to use as I've heard some are spyware and that's a concern as well. As my tablet has been upgraded to 9.0 I'm unsure how to go forward as most guides seem older. I'd like to change as little as possible and get straight to rooting. I would appreciate help and suggestions! Thank you!

easy. Just follow ashyx's twrp thread dotted around somewhere in this forum. Go to that thread and follow the oreo instructions (even if youre on pie) and flash this zip at the end before rebooting: Knox Guard Bypass.
by the by the process of rooting WILL WIPE ALL DATA INCLUDING THE INTERNAL STORAGE and it will need a PC. So yeah do your backups.
Hit thanks if it helped

Im in canada (quebec province) and am with rogers
data plan, locked sim
honeycomb 3.1
kernel is 2.6.36.3
i rooted my tab when i got it, i remember also that i did a backup in case i would have to sent it to repair
i have superuser installed.
Now i saw a way to get ICS buy doing this :
[...]So go grab a copy of 4.0.4 for your tab by hitting MENU / SETTINGS / ABOUT DEVICE / SYSTEM UPDATE and click “check for updates”.
I use my tab a lot for work, i got plenty of apps and i need to know :
if i should do another backup of my tab now before trying to update?
if i have to reinstall everything after the update ?
if i have to unroot before trying to update?
am i gonna be able to root it again after update?
am i gonna get any real improvment on my speed/quality/daily usage with ICS ?
thanks for your help

When I upgraded to ICS all my apps and data remained intact. But since you are already rooted, go ahead and do a backup of all your user apps with Titanium Backup.
I think as long as you are still using Samsung's recovery image, you will not have to unroot your device.
From my reading of other people's upgrades, they lost root after upgrading. But you can regain root afterwords.
As far as improvements in speed/quality/daily usage; my opinion is yes. Other will argue differently but I have enjoyed ICS on my Tab.
Good Luck and click my Thanks button if this helped.
thanks for your help, am doing the backup with titanium atm
u said i could regain root after upgrading, do you have any link ? i know i know, am a bit lazy to look around sorry
i remember that it was really easy with honeycomb, i hope the maniplation is as simple with ICS

Take this with the knowledge that you are in Canada and I have a true 4G Tab. I do not know what this will do with your device but here is the procedure I used to upgrade to ICS and root my VZW Tab. I would suggest seeking the assistance of someone with the same device.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444714
actually i havent lost my root
i still have superuser and titanium backup installed and working
all my apps are still there too
i only have to redo all my personnal configuration on the 5 diff homescreens (with is long but easy)
so far, combined to advance task killer, my tab is freaking fast
thanks again, i appreciate it
Let me first say I've looked through the forums and can't find a direct answer to this, so I hope this doesn't bother you guys.
I just bought the noteII yesterday and so far it looks like I'm selling the iPhone5 (why'd it take me so long?)
I do want to root my noteII so I can use the secure setting and other plugins with Tasker mostly. Plus just having full control.
Seems I have Android 4.1.1 with Baseband version I605VRALL4 and Build JR003C.I605VRALL4 (kernel 3.0.31-414933)
Now I'm a mac user so one question is - is there a way to do this through mac? if it possible...second is if it's not how long until it looks like it might be? gives me time to find a windows PC.

You will need a windows PC with the samsung drivers installed as well as ODIN.
Yes you can still root, but you cannot unlock the bootloader at this time because your phone has accepted the OTA - so flashing custom ROM's, kernel's, etc. is out. All the info you need is in this thread to root (if you have a VERIZON Note2):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024207
Use the route66 image (there are three listed to choose from, be sure to pick route66) - there is lots of information on what you want to do in the latter 15 pages of that thread.
stop after section 1a.
Honestly though out of the box the phone is outstanding, and without an unlock method for the bootloader, I'd recommend doing nothing. Too many people have already borked their phones due to lack of experience, knowledge, reading the steps correctly...you get the idea. I'm not commenting on your knowledge, just saying what I would do after reading as much as I could find here on this phone. The terrific devs will come up with a way to unlock and root the post OTA version soon enough.
Honestly the two things that is causing me to want to unlock it is I can't seem to get Tasker to control lockscreen properly. I have it setup to detect what cell towers I'm on and not lock in the house - and yet...it continually locks. Shows I'm on that cell tower, just seems like it can't properly control the lockscreen.
Secondly, I'd like to make GPS only come on when certain apps are open - and that seems to be a root only feature.
Reason enough for me

You know I'm going to forgive you this time for not reading the OP and then the other giant thread on it but come on man, seriously.
If you have a brand new phone and you took the OTA, you can still root. Just do NOT try to install a custom recovery, kernel, rom, etc.
If you are rooted and you took the OTA, you should still be rooted OR you will already have root installed. Again, you CANNOT install a custom recovery, kernel, or rom, etc.

You will get prompted. Defer the OTA then freeze or uninstall SDM 1.0 using Titanium Backup from the Play Store.
You can get the OTA applied using a safe zip made by Adryn...its a thread in the General section I think.
The threads are full of questions and answers on this topic.

People bork their phones all the time. Samsung phones are the easiest to "fix". It amazes me that even with step by step videos people still get things wrong. Life is about living and learning. If you screw it up 9 times out 10 it can be fixed.

Hello ! I recently rooted my Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini 4.2.2 JB but i still use my custom rom. Now i am aware that i cant use the full features of GravityBox module on Xposed because it doesnt support Samsung TouchWiz. Can you guide me on how can i flash Vanilla Android (I'm not exactly sure what this is) on my galaxy device, so i could benefit on 100% from the GravityBox.
Vanilla Android usually refers to an Android system with no modifications by manufacturers or ROM devs. You should find such ROMs and lots of explanations in your devices forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-mini. For example you could try Cyanogenmod (which is not vanilla but close enough that Xposed should work well): http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Serranoltexx_Info The installation guide there should also work for most other ROMs. Whatever you do, keep in mind that gathering as much information as possible before doing something prevents most problems

Thank you. One more question, when i flash the new rom everythink in the phone erases, right ?
Yes! Before flashing you will need to wipe everything in your custom recovery (you'll easily find out what that exactly means). But since you seem to be rooted you can backup your apps and data by Titanium Backup.

Alright, so i go under recovery mode, wipe everything out and then i can flash the new rom vie Odin. Then i just make backup with my titanium and I'm ready to go ?
You first make the backup with titanium, after flashing you restore it. But, yes, thats in general the procedure to follow. Anyway, since I have no experience with your device, I gave you the two links. Just in case there is something special to keep in mind.
Yes i will take a closer look to the whole process these days before doing it. Thank you for the help :highfive:
Greetings everyone
I have this awesome tablet for my young son who loves to watch YouTube kids
The current FW which is an OFW will not permit the DL of YouTube kids I think due to compatibility issues etc.
I ask anyone to advise on how to load a CFW or something to allow me to run YTK and other items. Obviously I would need android 5 or higher.
Where could I find step by step instructions to do this? I am not sure of the detailed ways so I am needing patience from you.
I would appreciate all the help, so will my son
Thank you
Have you tried rooting it? What model is your tablet - 10.1?

Try the 7.1.2 Nougat Rom
I prefer Nougat without gapps and overclock the CPU to 1400 MHz.
https://www.google.nl/amp/s/forum.x...elopment/rom-android-7-0-nougat-t3471350/amp/
Good luck
I have the 10.1 GT-P 7510 I had XDA root it for me through their 1 click root system because I didn't want to take the chance on messing anything up because you read so much online about people bricking devices trying to root them. I also have kind of the same question, I have an old version of Netflix on mine that runs perfect but would like to go to a newer version, and I would also like to install kodi or xbmc on this tablet so I can take it with me on trips and be able to watch movies. after extensive searching I was able to find out that supposedly kodi 14.2 helix will work on this tablet, but trying to find it is essentially impossible, and when you do find the file it always seems to be broken in some way and wont work, supposedly there is a program called SBMC which is a fork of kodi for this device, but can't find that one anywhere. so my question is this because I am so new to this rooting thing. My tablet is already rooted with Super SU and I would like to know where I could look to get instructions how to install the nougat 7.1 rom or even a different rom to be able to go to some newer apps at this point I have been a little timid about doing too much because at least Netflix is working, and the xda tech told me not to factory reset it update it and a few other things, and a few other things because then it won't be rooted. any help in this will be very much appreciated and please feel free to move this post if it is in the wrong area and I apologize it is my first time posting. I will say this though it was well worth the 40.00 to have xda root it for me because it can be a bigger process than people think depending on the device the guys are awesome.

I also have a 10.1 GT-P 7510(wifi) 32g. The P7500 and the P7510 are basically the same and use the same firmware. I've had mine rooted for a long time. I use Kingoroot because it's easily replaced with Supersu. As far as ROMs go I've had only difficulties. What I can tell you is that for myself this has been a little difficult up til possibly just recently. There are many ROMs available here at XDA, most of them were unstable. The 7.1 Nougat, https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-10-1/development/rom-android-7-0-nougat-t3471350, looks promising but I haven't got CWM recovery to flash the zip without giving me a "No File_Contexts warning. If I could get a tar.md5 ROM I would use Odin3 in a heartbeat. Version 1.85 is the one I use most and thats just to undo the softbricks, by flashing in the original firmware. If you live in the US its this, https://www.androidlegend.com/update-samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-wi-fi-p7510-with-ics-4-0-4-uelpl/. Run that through Odin if you ever get stuck in bootloop crash the tab, pretty much anything but a hardbrick. The 8.0 Rom I'm waiting for the developers to complete.
Hi everyone,
I have a rooted Honor 9 with TWRP recovery and EMUI v 5.1 with Android 7.0.
It's possible update EMUI to 9.1 with Android 9.0?
Thanks in advance.
That's a big jump, are you sure your device can take it? Updating your device doesn't mean it's better, and I really think it will only get slower with that update.
That being said, yes you can, but you'll lose root. So if you have any root related apps or modules, it's better to back them up before updating.
Or you can download the ROM, patch it with magisk, then flash it manually.
Hi, thanks for your response.
I'm thinking to upgrade because I'm having, from some days, problems with this phone.
In particular I'm having problems with quickly access to my internet banking app that works fine until a few days ago. Also with anothers app that have problems with login.
It seems that not save login operation, in fact if I do login, when I reopen app I've to do re-login.
Problems that I never had in this years.
Sorry for my not perfect English, but I'm a italian user
Also I can try to re-flash same ROM without lose app and data? Or I must do a full backup with Titanium then restore apps data and personal data?

Those issues are common on rooted phones, try using root hiding apps or modules, usually they fix it. So updating it won't fix it.
However to answer your question, yes you can flash same ROM without data loss, but you have to do full nandroid backup or titanium backup then restore it.
If you still insist to flash another ROM I recommend flashing a stable custom ROM specific for your device, that way it won't slow your device down as official one would.
Goodluck.
Thanks for your response.
Have you some advices for me? Some specific tutorial/ROM/TWRP to use?
What you think about the idea that it's the moment to purchase a new phone, considering I want root?

Honestly I hate Honor and all Huawei phones for a lot of different reasons. So if you ask me, yes, I 100% recommend getting a new phone.
But practically speaking, you can't just wake up one day and say "Yeah, I'm getting a new phone", as such if you just want root, stick with your phone, yes it has issues. But you can definitely fix them without getting new phone or updating your Android.
As for guides and tutorials there are plenty on the internet and on the forums, do some research by yourself, that way you'll understand more. They're a bit old - Like 2016 kind of old - since development for Huawei died long ago, but they still work.
Have you to suggest me a phone that is relatively easy to unlock and have root permissions?
I'm also searching for stock ROM with Android 9 for my Honor but I not found it.

I'd recommend Samsung Galaxy series, they're extremely easy to use and flash. But Xiaomi is a good contender as well, a bit harder to work on tho. Or you can get Google Pixel (Never from Verizon).
As for the ROM, sorry mate can't help ya with that. You'll have to search for it if you really want it.
