Unable to flash Havoc 3.6 GSI - Xiaomi Redmi 8A Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
Really frustrated with this right now. I'm just trying to flash Havoc 3.6 without root on Redmi 8A Global version.
I have OrangeFox 10.1 installed from the official OrangeFox website.
I start off with MIUI 11.06 Global.
I unlock bootloader, reboot into OrangeFox fine.
If I format data and flash the rom, I get stuck on the Redmi by Xiaomi screen that says Unlocked.
If I don't format data before flashing ROM, I get bootlooped into OrangeFox recovery.
I can restore functionality by reflashing Global ROM.
I'm using ROM Havoc-OS-v3.6-20200613-Official-a64-ab.img.xz which I extracted into SD card and flashed .img to System partition.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/ha...v3.6-20200613-Official-a64-ab.img.xz/download
Please help!

I've tried to follow that but it has many things I don't need like magisk. I just want a regular rom.
Also, OP is using a China version of the device instead of global variant.

Just do not install magisk and it does not matter whether it is China version or global version.
NOTE: If you flash vbmeta you would not get bootloop.

I did flash vbmeta.
Anyway I found the solution after another 3 hours of looking around. The guide I was using missed many important steps. I needed to flash permissive and certificate patch.

Flashing MIUI 8 Global Beta MM from LL

Hi all. My RN3 is currently on global stable MIUI 8.0.6.0 which os LL based. I want to switch over to Global beta which is MM.
I dont want to use MiFlash as I bricked my device twice earlier flashing the MM file.
Can I flash the MM recovery zip through TWRP? Should I use Alka Twrp to flash and do I need to do anything else after that? Can anyone please help me with exact steps to get MM global beta through TWRP?
Go to xiaomi.eu and get a zip that Global MM modified (only remove bloatware I think) and flash it via TWRP.
MiFlash actually rescue me from a soft-brick one week ago. MiFlash shouldn't brick your device if you doing it right.
MiFlash works perfectly with Global Stable, I don't know about Global Dev, but I have a solution if you want a official way to go Global Dev.
I will assume you are not flash any custom recovery yet, and still at stock recovery. And no bootloader unlock needed.
Flash Global Stable via MiFlash and update Global Dev via stock recovery with recovery zip.
I do it once when I go from MIUI 7 Stable to MIUI 8 Beta few months ago, and it works very well.
dev roms should b flashed with custom recovery bro..
I have nothing against MiFlash but my PC USB ports seems to be having a problem when I flash using MiFlash and it stops midway with some read error..I had that problem twice..
So I am always using Alka TWRP for flashing CM 14.1 builds from LL directly. Wanted to check if I can do that with MIUI 8 Global Dev too using their recovery zip file. Heard it causes bootloops. Please detail the steps of flashing through TWRP. Thats the safest for me

When you go from miui lp to miui mm , your bootloader will be relocked and you have to unlock it again and flash twrp.
Actually, TWRP remains, you only need to unlock it with MiUnlock in fastboot mode. And then you can go to twrp or system. Because BL is locked it causes bootloop

I tried to unlock my bootloader via
Miunlock tool.. I got my device permission through sms on 19november
from unlock mi team,
After that I m trying to unlock my device, But it's stuck at 50% (Another
account ), It's already 8days over, Still I m not able to unlock my
bootloader officially,
So if I unlocked my bootloader by fastboot miflash unofficially method,
- My Mi protection and
- My device ll void warranty??
What would be the cons if I unlocked unofficially..
You need to boot in EDL mode and then flash with MiFlash china/global dev fastboot ROM. For that you dont need to unlock BL. Then you will be able to unlock it on dev ROM.
I had exact same problem

I dont want to install custom rom now urgently later i will see,
So now i want to Backup my MIUI 8.0.6.0 Stable rom for future.. i m satisified with my stable rom..
Now if i am going to install official twrp recovery, any problem to get future OTA updates, Can i upgraded to future MIUI stable roms after installed twrp??
No you cant upgrade OTA if you have official TWRP.
It only works with ZCX TWRP, I suggest flash zcx, backup all partitions to microSD and then happy flashing.

How to switch from global stable to global beta/dev?

Hey there,
I own a Redmi Note 3 Special Edition (Kate) and I currently am on 8.1.1.0 global stabel. I'd like to switch to beta/dev (Is it the same? There doesn't seem to be a difference on the download page) without any loss of data if that's possible? What's the most reliable way to switch?
Thanks in advance
If your phone is on stock firmware then download the latest developer rom for kenzo. Make sure you download recovery ROM and not fastboot rom for your device. Fastboot Roms can be flashed only using mi flash tool. After downloading ROM copy it to d root of your phone s internal storage. Then go to updater app and choose update package i.e zip file. It will decrypt and then install update.

He's having Kate, so he should only flash Kate's ROM (not KENZO) otherwise he'll get bootloop. I am having KATE and have the latest global dev 7.2.9.
I have installed TWRP after unlocking bootloader and flashed the recovery ROM.

Bootloop after flashing rr nougat

Hey guys.
I'm using a 32/3GB kenzo with an unlocked bootloader running official rr mm.
I formatted the phone, flashed CM14 firmware, flashed the official RR nougat and GAPPS, then rebooted to system.
At this point, it started bootlooping, booting to the MI splashscreen, staying there for about half the time it usually does, before rebooting and repeating the process.
At this point, I was unable to access recovery, but was able to access fastboot and edl.
Flashing a recovery using the "fastboot flash recovery" command failed, so I assume that the partitions were corrupted.
I had to revert to MIUI by flashing through edl using MI flash, which fixed all the issues.
Can someone tell me what I did wrong?
Or should I follow the newbie guide 2.0 from the forums?
Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

Which recovery you uaed for flashing rr n. Because you went bootloop and recovery was not able to access that means may be some problems in recovery or either in rom/gapps zip. Make sure you are flashing gapps for NOUGAT only. And use latest stable miui firmware (not cm14 zip one although may be both are same)
Try this
1. Flash zcx recovery (I recommend this, never disappointed)
2. Flash latest miui stable firmware
3. Flash rom zip
4. Flash gapps n
Boot to system
5. Then flash kernel or anything.

There is flashable zip file which is extracted from miui rom only. So both way will be good as flash latest stable miui rom and then twrp > rom zip > gapps. Or twr0 > firmware zip (search in any custom rom thread you will get one) > custom rom zip > gapps.
Only benefit of flashing firmware zip is less time consuming and less file size (around 50mb) compare to full miui rom.

Unlocked bootloader. Do I need to flash boot.img before flashing TWRP?

System Configuration:
ROM: MIUI Global 8.1.25 | Beta
Kernel: 3.10.84-perf-g1cb6922
RAM: 2.00 GB
Device: Redmi note 3 (kenzo) with officially unlocked bootloader.
There are a number of tutorials and posts on XDA and YouTube with varying content. Some of them do not flash the boot.img, some of them do.
I will be using Ubuntu to flash using adb and fastboot. Any suggestions regarding that would be great.
Here are the steps I think I should follow ( from the posts I read):
1. Boot into fastboot.
2. Flash twrp-**.img
3. Boot into TWRP recovery.
4. Flash SuperSU
5. Flash Lazyflasher
Would that sequence cause any problem?
No problem, just flash twrp without prior boot.img flashing.

Thank you, bud! I have successfully install TWRP and also installed RR Rom on my Redmi Note 3. However, I have now lost root access.
I tried flashing the SuperSU.zip again, but to no avail. Where did I go wrong? How can I get root access back?

I recommend you to use magisk as a root access. To be safe you need to make clean flash your rom again , who's know maybe superSu already exists in your system but not appear on apps drawer by doing this your device will be cleaned from anything that can cause you into bootloop. First download magisk and magisk manager and place it in phone memory or SD card it's up to you and then reboot to TWRP ,wipe everything cache , dalvik cache , system and data then flash rom , gapps and magisk.. reboot. Search for magisk at XDA and download it.

TWRP: Go to official website and download latest version
SuperSU: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=385035244224394155
lazy-flasher: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=457095661767111293
I am not sure if it would work, but I was also on MIUI 9 and it worked for me. Hopefully, someone else here will be able to let you know. AFAIK, it should work.

Make sure u come from latest miui 10 stable
If u unlocked boot loader unofficially and zcx
then first replace ur zcx twrp with latest twrp. Then u can flash custom roms and gapps.
U dont need any firmware Before flashing custom roms.
Just format data
Wipe data reset
Flash rom and gapps.
Reboot.
If u try to flash those 50mb size miui firmware zip using twrp then u will brick ur phone coz u r unofficially unlocked. So get rid of that firmware fever from ur head. U dont need any.
In case if u feel like going again back to miui global rom then put ur phone in EDL mode and flash kate fastboot global rom using computer and miflashtool.

Better use official TWRP, Orangefox or Redwolf recovery
No need to flash firmware as you're already on MIUI 10.2

Can you help me? This is for Kenzo
I had softbricked? my phone. Went through the process of installing the MIUI 10 fastboot rom but it required activation which I can't do as I forgot my login details (i bought this phone years ago)
Yesterday I managed to unlock unofficially using this method
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66379587&postcount=3
Didn't install 7.1.8, just 7.2.5, followed the instructions, was able to enable oem-unlock and usb debugging, confirmed bootloader was unlocked
Flashed the latest twrp, tried zwcx, lastly tried the latest orangefox
Tried flashing AOSPextended nougat and viper os nougat with various recoveries but they were stuck at the logo for the corresponding roms
I am not sure...do I have to do anything with that boot.img patcher? And if so, when would I flash it?
Went through the same steps again. Same result. All roms get stuck on the custom boot animation
edit:nevermind, flashed that unlocked bootloader rn3_unlockonly in miflash and it booted up
