Can't update to MIUI 12 - Xiaomi Mi 10 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I am a first time Xiaomi user and just got the Mi 10 Global version. I tried manually installing the official global MI 10 Miui 12 ROM, but the update failed as it couldn't be verified. Please take a look at the screenshots..
I can't update it via fastboot neither, as my bootloader is locked and Xiaomi wants me to wait for 168 hours (7 days!) to try again.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Because it is a Vodafone branding. You have to wait till Vodafone release the update.

So the VF at the end of MIUI version number means Vodafone?
If that's the case I might as well go and unlock my bootloader, flash the unbranded global rom and relock the bootloader.
Do I loose anything by unlocking and relocking the bootloader? I had Samsung phones before, where unlocking the bootloader would trip Knox and invalidate your warranty.

Yes VF is Vodafone branding. If you unlock bootloader you will loose your data. So make a backup.

So in the end I flashed it with Xiomi Tool V2 and I didn't need to unlock the bootloader.

Unlock question

The official bootloader unlock guide here http://en.miui.com/thread-202290-1-1.html states that "If you're using Redmi Note 3 Qualcomm version or Mi 5, you can unlock on MIUI Global Stable ROM"
1- Did anybody succeed in doing so?
2- After unlocking the official way, can I still flash the latest global stable? (assuming that point 1 is not possible and I have to flash the china dev) I read warnings everywhere not to do so to avoid boot loop, is this warning valid even when unblocked through the official way?
3- If I flash the latest global, will my bootloader get locked again?
I would like to unlock my bootloader to prepare for CM13 and in the meantime I want to keep running the global stable ROM.
Many thanks

I'm on Redmi Note 3 Qualcomm.
1 - For me, it only worked with the Global Dev ROM. You can switch from Global Stable without erasing any data though. I had the usual "never works on the first try"-stuff though, so I tried a lot of things and I can't say if being on Global Stable was one of the main issues.
2 - I read similar things, but also that you can OTA update without any problems when you are officially unlocked. I think the posts warning of bootloops concern the unofficial unlock only and it will happen if you forget to delete emmc_appsboot.mbn before flashing an official ROM.
3 - Shouldn't happen. Haven't tried it yet, but what would be the point of Xiaomi locking the bootloader again, just because you changed ROM versions.
So, #2 and #3 is guess work on my site. Hope someone else can chime in and give definitive answers. As of #1, hope it helps to know that Global Dev works fine. Or was there any reason you wanted to stay on Global Stable?

Fastboot method is for you, and there is no need to worry about ARB, and after unlocking bootloader you'll also be able to install xiaomi.eu!

Bootloader unlock after EMUI 9 update

Hello!
I recently bought the 8" M5 without realising the hoops I'd have to jump through to unlock the bootloader.
After getting lucky and being able to downgrade to FW163 I have successfully unlocked the bootloader and I've been running a treble rom. Yesterday I wanted to try out an OpenKirin rom, so I flashed the stock EMUI 8 firmware in order to then flash the OpenKirin rom.
After flashing stock I realised my bootloader was relocked - not a big issue as I still had the unlock code and I was still on FW163.
My question is - if I upgrade to EMUI 9 ota will this relock my bootloader the same as manually flashing 163 did, and if so, will I still be able to unlock on higher FW versions since I already have the unlock code? As far as I'm aware the issue we were faced with was actually obtaining the unlock code after official support ended, so in theory now that I have the code I should be able to unlock on any firmware, right?
Thanks!

Theoritically said, yes, because the xloader have those kind of hexes that stay the same even after updating the firmware and the xloader and as additional info, I'm now on Omnirom for EMUI 9 vendor from Openkirin team and I can download the EMUI from eRecovery without getting my bootloader locked

Flashing China Rom

Hi folks.
I have a Mi 8 Lite global pack.
I alreday unlocked it's bootloader. but i don't want to my phone be unlocked anymore.
So, since people say China rom is better than global. I interested to flash china rom and lock my bootloader
Is this possible to do it? without any soft or hard break?
What about China Beta rom? Can i flash it in this case?

As far as I know you can´t cross the firmware before to unlock device and in your case when you unlocked it you can flash any of both but you can´t relock it over the crossed firmware or you could brick it.
If you want to wait that someone that tried it can confirm it but I read that some users bricked due to this.

Will I receieve OS updates if I convert China Version Mi 10 to Global Version?

I'm planning on buying Mi 10 from China, then convert it into Global Rom / EU Rom. Does anyone know if flashing global rom will allow the device to receieve auto updates on the OS? Also will I be able to relock the bootloader after flashing the global rom?
Has anyone tried this? Thank you!
If you lock bootloader with Global rom your device will brick.
Flash global rom without lock. You can receive updates without any problems.
