I *HATE* EMUI - Options? - Huawei P20 Lite Questions & Answers

Is there a way to put a stock Android OS onto the P20 Lite? Model is ANE-LX2J and currently running EMUI 9.1.0. I have nothing but issues with notifications and settings with this phone and I'd love to go back to what I've always used and ditch EMUI completely. Is there any way to do this? I couldn't find a custom firmware and I don't want to brick my phone experimenting with things. Thanks.
Edit: Just saw Lineage is gonna release for this phone so I might wait for that and hope it does what I want it to do.

I agree with you. It's been okay for the first 1.5 years, but in recent times I have those problems too. I would like to switch to a custom or stock rom with the goal to increase performance. I haven't used any custom rom for some years now. What are the "main customs" these days?

OC1: Is there any conceivable way that I could eventually flash an AOSP-based ROM?

I ended up with a Verizon S4 through eBay (for a good price at least), and have managed to get on 5.0.1 and root it (via the PC version of Kingroot). Being that it's the OC1 baseband version, my options seem to be quite - no, very limited, when it comes to flashing non-touchwiz based ROMs. Is there any conceivable way I can get a custom recovery on here that will allow me to flash AOSP ROMs? I can wait, it doesn't have to be right now... I just need to know if my particular S4 is permanently crippled in this regard, or if it's just a matter of waiting until someone cracks it. Ideally I'd like to have an unofficial Android M ROM on here when the time comes. What are my options?
Also, I just came from the development sub forum (I can't comment there yet) and saw a new 5.1.1 ROM (Gamer Rom?) that claims to work for the Verizon S4. I'm skeptical that it wouldn't actually brick my device so I wanted to check of anyone else here has found a way to flash it. As far as I know, we can't even flash CWM so I just wanted to double check of I was missing anything obvious. Cheers

So, I have this Nexus 9...

...And for the most part, I love it. Or did until the Nougat update. I wanted to like Nougat, but like so many others have reported, it just ruined my tablet. I tried:
Resetting to factory defaults (no effect)
Unlocking the bootloader and going back to the latest Official 6.0.1 build (worked, but wanted to give Nougat another shot, so...)
Installed the latest official Nougat from fastboot (worked for a while, but after a week, it was already starting to slow down, heat up, and crash)
Back to latest official Marshmallow via fastboot (current setup)
I like staying with the official builds for now, but I am open to rooting and going custom ROM. I also wondered what just installing a custom Kernel (ElemantalX?) over top of an official build would do for me? Ideally, I would have NTFS/exFAT support, which I know the custom kernal would do for me.
Thoughts and suggestions? I know this question has been asked before, but it has been a while, and there are now new variables (7 is several updates in, 7.1 is on the horizon, etc.)
Thank you all, love the community!
What you don't like about Nougat?

No name android phones and CM

Hey guys,
Got on hands noname Chinese android phone with lollipop on board (even though it says 6.0.1 in settings) and MTK6580 quad processor, 3.10.72 kernel
can I somehow put cyanogen rom from another phone?
Yes, find another phone using that chip: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_devices_using_Mediatek_SoCs
Then go here: http://www.needrom.com and find THAT phone(s) and see if there is a custom rom for THAT phone also using the same kernal 3.10/3.12 etc
Download that rom and port it yourself using the boot.img from YOUR phone using this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-how-to-port-lollipop-based-roms-t3223938
And get it at least booting on your phone, out of loads I've done on MTK phones, 95% boot up first time, 50% of those have no issues, the other 50% have issues with cameras/wifi/video/phone that can be fixed literally with trial and error of swapping files from your stock rom to the new rom, can take hours/days of trial and error or could take minutes.
Have fun
EDIT: try to use a custom rom from a brand you have at least kinda heard of, doogee, walton, infinix...etc to make it more likely to work well.

Thank you for your response!
After few hours of research I have found many ROMs that are applicable for my phone. The thing is, I want it to be and look as close to stock android as possible, and as close to most recent version as well.
But still I have few questions:
1)Am I right by saying that kernel 3.10.72 is suitable only for android 5.x?
2)Is it possible to put android 6.x or 7.x?
3)If it is do I need to ugrade kernel?
4)Is it possible to upgrade kernel?
I really hope it's not too much to ask from you.

Your phone is basically the same as mine, and sadly the kernal has to be the same for every custom ROM, there are no kernel sources so no custom kernels, which means we are both stuck with lollipop
The infinix hot 2 for example, is the same MTK chip and was released with lollipop and kernel 3.10 but then infinix released a stock marshmallow upgrade, with a stock 3.12 kernel so they could get a custom 6.0 rom which im 99% sure we will never get.
If you go here: http://www.needrom.com/author/robneymcplum/ this is me on there, where I have ported the best 5.1.1 roms with our kernel. You will need to port to your phone, which is literally just swapping about 10 files from your stock rom so make a backup of your stock rom or find stock firmware, and get the files from there and use the guide i already posted.
Hope this helps. And if you have never done it, its way, WAY easier than you think it might be

Dragon Touch X10 upgrade

i have a dragon touch x10 tablet that about 2-3 years old. recently updated the kitkat to lollipop which works fine. However id like to put a newer OS on it like 7.0 or maybe even 8.0. Lollipop is the lastest update for the x10, my question is can i use a rom like 7.0 of 8.0 thats actually made for a phone rather than a tablet. I have no idea if loading one of these roms would screw it up ot not, thus, im asking for help. Its been a excellent tablet and really wouldnt want to brick it.
Thanks in advance

Want to update to android pie but can't find the right help?

Hi I have a unlocked Mate 10 pro originally based on 3 network UK (BLA-L09 c782) and I want to upgrade to pie since no update has hit me yet.
I have firmware finder, there is a Pie update available however not approved for installation, If it's safe to still update it via erecovery, how do I do it?
Do you lose all your data? Is it pretty straight forward?
I don't want to click the option and end up bricking my phone lol.
I haven't done anything similar to this in over 5 years when i was addicted to installing ROMs so i'm very wary and a complete noob again!

If it's not yet approved for installation then despite downloading, it won't update but will give you an error. This was my experience on a C158 version. The erecovery update doesn't delete your data unless you're downgrading to Oreo from Pie.
I wrote instructions for Firmware Finder/DNS update. This is like OTA, you keep all your data and settings.
Hope it helps.
Patience is a virtue! It will be available OTA very soon. Besides, there's nothing that different from Oreo that will change your day-to-day life in any meaningful way. Also, these Huawei phones are very finicky when it comes to doing anything beyond what Huawei allows...just read through this forum a little and you will see that many, many unfortunate end users make a mess of their phones by trying things that are not safe to try. YMMV
