in ADB with USB-debugging on you can write "adb reboot edl" in command promt and it should make your phone reboot to download mode.
download mode is the screen off and the LED is just blinking red.
Flash with MiFlash the rom you want?
If all drivers are installed on your pc(adb&fastboot) open adb cmd tool and type : Adb reboot edl

I cant because phone isn't recognised from miflash. I can only enter fastboot mode but cant flash with locked bl. :/
Also reboot edl doesnt work because pc doesn't recognise my phone.
it's not clear what "not recognize your phone" looks like, but let's try these simplified steps.
prerequisite: your phone is redmi note 3 pro (qualcomm cpu), windows 64bit, mi flash version 20160401, you've downloaded fastboot ROM.
step 1 install mi flash on your pc
step 2 reboot your pc
step 3 enable usb debugging on your phone
step 4 connect your phone to your pc
step 5 in command windows, run adb devices
step 6 authorize your pc on your phone
step 7 in command windows, run adb reboot edl
step 8 launch miflash
step 9 choose rom
step 10 flash
Check device manager in your pc and report back on whether it shows your phone under portas as Qualcomm 9008 port or 900e port (try and enter edl mode with the button press trick).

By saying my pc doesn't recognise the phone i mean that when i have the device powered on an then connect it to the pc, nothing happens. its like connecting the phone with a usb cable and not connecting the other side with the pc. Like the pc isn't powered on. That's why i can't run adb devices and furthermore reboot edl. Also i can't access usb mode in 6.5.12 stable dev rom, through settings and every app that i checked. Its like the usb mode selector app crashes. sorry for my english... i hope you understand me

while, did you follow what I've written?
or maybe you can try these first: factory reset your phone, then when you connect your phone to pc, you should use the original usb cable coming with your phone, do not use other usb cable even it worked for other phones.
then follow steps I've mentioned.
if successful, after step 7, you should see this in device manager windows.

Thanks for replying. My phone finally decided to be nice and when I connected it to my USB 3.0 port on my laptop and powered it on just installed mtp drivers and finally worked like a charm. It charges it can be recognised by PC. I installed global stable ROM now and I am fine. thanks for your time.

It seems to be a driver issue, installing MI pc suit will install all needed drivers.
PS: sorry I didn't see the later posts and you were able to resolve your issue

I have just got my phone today and have spent 5 hours trying to get to the point where the mi unlock software tells me to wait 72 hours.
I put my phone in fastboot mode and as soon as I connect it to the computer it disappears. Tried 5000 different ways to do this and even
wiped my pc with a clean install of windows but no matter what my phone is not recognized in the unlock tool. Please steer me in the right direction.
I'm sure I'm not the first person with this issue.
If I remember correctly, the unlock tool has an installable driver in the settings option. That should make the phone detectable in fastboot

I was facing the same issue, go to Device manager in Windows 10. In the View tab enable show hidden devices, then you should see Android Phone on the top. Click the right arrow and uninstall drivers under Android phone, connect your phone again and the drivers should be installed.
Windows 10 should detect your device in Fastboot mode now onwards.

unlocker said proper driver installed but install screen stays greyed out. What a pain the butt this is.
If I recall it right you just have to go to the mi unlock site and apply, the unlock is bouund to the mi account.
Have you tried a different usb port? Heard pocophone is finicky on usb 3.0, maybe use a usb 2.0 port.
Try another USB port. It solved for me.

All my Xiaomi phones, including Poco F1, are recognized in Windows 10, and I've unlocked them all in Windows 10. So it shouldn't be Windows.
Why is your phone going to a black screen when you boot in fastboot mode ?
I don't know how to solve your problem though. I reboot my phone into fastboot while not connected to the PC, and it surely will show the fastboot animation screen. Then I plug in the cable to the PC, and the unlock tool will start its work.
Maybe redownload the MI unlocker tool ... or create a new MI account and re-bind that account under developer options ...
unlocking boot loader will wipe all the data right?
That is correct. You need to wait 3 days when unlocking the bootloader. That is Xiaomi's waiting period for the Pocophone.
Better than Samsung's 7 day wait, and better than LG's way of having to request an unlock key.

@Apgibby
Are you putting the phone in bootloader mode, connect it to the PC and then opening the Mi Unlocker? The correct sequence is open the Unlocker, put your phone in bootloader mode and then connect it to the PC. Try it.
If still not working, open the adb command window on your PC, put your phone in bootloader mode and connect it to the PC. Now type "fastboot devices" (without the quotation marks). You should get a serial number with alphabets and numerals. If you get it, it is confirmation that your drivers for bootloader are working. Try this and let us know the result.
Lastly, try another PC.
Solved used windows 7 with usb 2.0 ports.
I've waited 17 days after linking my Mi account to my Mi8L. I've unlocked more than half a dozen Xiaomi phones, so it's not new to me. However, it stops at 99% and spits out an error message in Chinese. Does anyone know what it means? https://drive.google.com/open?id=1dl6tPZdx7HfFwxQWel3hhjl9doFE5s8S
It means you haven't been using the phone for the necessary amount of time, so unlock isn't possible.
You're probably on a shop or chinese variant that need you to wait 30 days until unlocking.
Sorry for my bad english

It's strange because when I tried previously, it told me I had to wait 15 days, and I waited longer than that (I took note of the date and time).
Same with me.
Use Mi Unlock 2.3.803.10 (old version).
Works perfectly.
I do not know if you can help me, I was unlocking the Mi 8 Lite requested 15 days to wait after this period I was unlocking and to my surprise the fastboot mode when I connect the USB cable it erases and I can not unlock.
Developer options enabled, usb debugging enabled and oem unlocking also recognizes more when I log in to fastboot it shuts off

I'm not sure if you're doing it rightly. Adb works when device is on and fastboot when device is in bootloader/fastboot mode.
When you type for first time adb devices with device power on then you have to see a message from your android screen asking if you want to allow USB debugging, you have to tap on always allow and then in ok.
Provide some screenshot from your pc to see the fail.

Ok, your pc is not detecting your device connected in fastboot mode.
Try uninstalling all the drivers; those that you don´t use and those related with Xiaomi devices and install Mi PC Suite just to get installed the drivers https://mipcsuite.com open it for first time and connect it with your device on just to update drivers between both but when you´ll go to use MiFlash Unlock close it.
The USB cable used for your device is not to be shared with other devices so any of them creates a kind of data map on data wires and pc can have a sort of mistake trying to detect your device rightly.
Then to make all these steps start the process from adb as mentioned before sending with adb command to your device to bootloader/fastboot mode, this is just to confirm that pc is detecting it at both levels; adb and fastboot.

Of course, this is what´s written.
When PC detects device connected on fastboot or download mode then it holds it to avoid that it reboots while some data is transferring from and to each other.
If you put device on fastboot mode without connecting it to any PC then it will shutdown in 4 seconds aprox.
But like your case when PC detects that a device is connected but not in any transferring mode then it prompts to shutdown device.
For this I said that your PC is not recognicing it at fastboot mode, and installing again the drivers could solve the issue.

You right work ?
Hi guys, I just got myself a Poco F1 and I was thinking about flashing it.
So first I have to unlock the bootloader right? I had OEM unlocking and USB debugging enabled, installed the USB driver and unlock tools and
was ready to unlock.
Booted my phone into fastboot and i noticed that every time i launch the unlocking tools I get kicked out of fastboot, and when i boot into
fastboot again, the PC stopped recognising my phone.
Anyone knows why this happens and what can i do to unlock my phone? I followed the steps closely and tried both USB 2.0 and 3.0 slots.
Any help is appreciated.
its seems like driver issues, you must install
1. miflasher (latest) it comes with qualcom drifers , and it prompts you to install
2. miui pc suite (recomended)
3. i also installed TOOL_ALL_IN_ONe ( https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1899786940962603435) because windows (7) wasn't recognizing my poco / (install only drivers,) ( xda ref https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/tool-tool-one-driversunlocktwrpfactory-t3358711 )
4. I am assuming that you have passed the 72hours of waiting time and your miui is sim verified and your miui account has unlocking rights granted , if all are YES then proceed opening the UNLOCKER app and signin to the same MIUI Account and connect devce in FB mode and proceed!

I have same situation with my personal laptop(Intel i7 based). After 2-3 reboots (from starting Mi Unlock), it will not stay in fastboot even for 5 seconds even if I don't use Mi Unflock / Mi Flash, no matter what port (USB 2 or 3) I use. I used my office PC, & connected to USB 3 port (to test) to my surprise I could unlock the phone using Mi Unlock & use Mi Flash to flash MIUI 11 from fastboot even though I connected to a USB 3.0 port.
I just had the same issue and realised both my Ryzen machines were refusing to work. then i plugged into an old sony i3 laptop and voila it unlocked instantly - i would suggest using another machine entirely. preferably an Intel since this seems to be repeating issue.
Or get a USB 2 hub, go thru that and see if it works.

I doubt it would, especially If it doesn't / didn't work with onboard USB 2.0. In my case I could unlock & flash fastboot ROM using USB 3.0 port on my office desktop (i3 & gigabyte mobo) while I couldn't get it to keep it in fastboot mode for couple of seconds using USB 2.0 port on my laptop (i7 based & even after a clean windows 10 install). Better for him to try another Desktop / Laptop.
I fixed it with this https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachments/howto_driver-zip.2480396/
