Hi, i dont know if i am right here!
I was just gifted an old Samsung Wave GT8500, so i would like to flash a clean oss ROM.
Its purpose is just being a second cheap phone, like e.g. second sim/sms, TOTP, tinkering etc.
LineageOS would be best, but i take what is possible, and then look what i can use it for.
What do you guys recommend me to flash on it?
I am not a developer, so please no compiling or myracles and abbreviations, i also need a proper how-to for it.
Thank you.

Are there any guides that show the user how to create a rom from scratch? I've seen multiple guides on creating a rom but they do so using the kitchen. I would prefer something that shows how to make a rom without a crutch.
please help

I would say the best way to make a ROM from scratch is to compile it from source. If your interested in learning how to compile a ROM from source I would recommend taking a look at this guide to building Jelly Bean from source, as well as Google's offcial documentation on building Android from source. Additionally this guide on Zip Based ROM tweaking is a good guide to take a look at. Let me know if you still have any questions .

Normally all device forums have tutorials on how to compile ROM from source(if someone has already compiled it).
If no development has yet started for your phone then you you need to create the device tree which is tough. Otherwise just google . There are lots of tutorials lying on xda.

Thanks, I didn't even know there was an official guide
I'm wanting an AOSP ROM on my s5 g901f but there is no support at all. Could someone point me in the right direction? I'd like to have a go and have looked up porting but I don't think that is the way to go. If somebody could give me the steps what I need to do for this modal I will research.
Could I use the cm for note 4 as it has similar specs, ie
805, 420 etc. Or s5 g900 as a base ROM? Or would I need to build from scratch?
There is only one custom ROM for g901f and that's touchwiz so somebody please help before I go insane. Touchwiz really is that bad
Up for this. Really interested especially for us who has not so good programming skills

Let's see if I can point you in the right direction! Because of the differences in specs between your S5 Plus and the regular S5 you can't use that to port ROM's. For the Note 4 idea, since you only have a Touchwiz ROM as your base (The one from your S5 Plus) it won't work properly for the port ROM (CM12 Note 4). I would recommend looking at compiling CM12 for your device, which I would recommend taking a look at this guide here. Let me know if you have any questions be happy to help you out.
Hello, my stock OS and other software on my phone is S**T, together with my phone, it lags a lot etc.... I was wondering if there's a easy way to make my phone support CM, or it would also be nice if u know a way to change my os or firmware or smth like that so it's a bit less lagggggyyy... I don't even know what I'm talking about, it has a freaking Snapdragon 410...
Easy way? Not sure about that. But if there's no current development for your device, here's a good place to start to find a guide on porting, and learn yourself. :good:

Good luck!
So i've been looking on the internet for some ways to port any CM to my device J100FN, i found quite a few but some of them are outdated or badly explained etc etc...
I'm gonna put it plain and simple.
I have linux, i have my stock rom J100FNXXU0AOD1, and i can surely get any CM somewhere in the internet (note that i have CM12 for Samsung S3 neo already so tell me if that's gonna do it)
Here are the tutorials that i found so far:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAyxypK7_K8 (says that i need a CM already built for my phone, which is no available)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2545618 (same with this one)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245786 (and this one is kinda poorly explained at the begining)
Note that i have a rooted device and TWRP recovery up and running on it, also i read about this "Cyanogenmod compiler" thingy thing, but i couldn't manage to download it, i think the repos are down now or idk. (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415661) (https://korben.info/cyanogenmod-compiler.html)
IDK MAN I REALLY NEED CYANOGENMOD ON MY GALAXY J1 LTE, i'm kind of a rookie when it comes to complicated roms maneuvering but i still do have basic knowledge (flashing, rooting, few terminal cmd's etc etc...)
Please help, and thank.

Like come on 34 views but no replies...
How did you get the TWRP for your phone? Is there one for the J100? I haven't managed to root my J727 One thing you could do is use the google android tree with all its garbage and then copy and paste the CM tree into it. But quite frankly I hesitate to suggest this because it's a huge pain in the ass, and like I said, I haven't managed to get TWRP working for my phone doing this. I can get it compiled but... I have no idea what makes it specific to the phone. I thought it was enough just to have the kernel for the specific phone...

Idk man, I just looked up a tutorial on how to root it, I had to look quite deeply but I found it and it's working just fine, it requiers you to flash the boot.img too and then root it with Kingoroot, this is the tutorial I followed www .halabtech. com/root-for-j100fn/ (I know it looks shady but it worked, also I can't post links because my account is new...)
Also I asked a dev and he asked me about the source code of the cpu or some stuff, tbh I have no idea why you would need that to make a rom out of a stock rom...
As I've been informed by twrp, the recovery image typically has it's own kernel which means its specific to the device. I'm not totally sure of the reasons for this. I ended up returning the galaxy j727u which has a locked bootloader for a xiaomi, I'll see how it goes.
I see, but that doesn't really advance in my case
Is any devs out there willing to help out a stupid newbie :^)
Come on now don't let this thread die
Hey guys, I hope all are doing fine.
I'm wondering guys if there is any way to get an official Lineage OS rom for Samsung Galaxy note 8!!
All that I found are the unofficial one's and I don't know if it is safe to use or not!
Another thing is the Lightrom OS that I found in our site here, but I found those two things, which are Rom and Kernels!
Should I install both of them or only the Rom enough to do the whole thing, I mean it will also install the Kernel too!
Those were my thoughts and questions, appreciating your helps in this, and thanks in advance

I doubt we will see Official Lineage OS as it requires too much work and the developer does not have the free time. The source code is posted on the thread so if there was anything dodgy in there someone would pick up on it, especially by now. Lineage 17.1 does get monthly builds for the security patches via OTA. If you're interested in flashing it you can get the latest builds here - https://images.stricted.net/lineageos/greatlte/
I can't comment on Lightrom as I believe there are a number of Lightrom's and I'm not sure to which one you refer to.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate your kindness reply, I will see about the lineage, it is the one I trust in more in terms of open source Roms.
As for the Lightrom and my question about it, it could come on any other Rom, I mean in general if there's a Rom and a Kernel should I install them both or only will do the whole work (I mean by that it will install both Rom and a Kernel in a single installation process), in which I doubt, but just want to make sure, because it's my first time thinking of installing custom kernel.

Happy to help.
When you flash a rom it will flash the kernel too at the same time.
Hi, I was just wondering if anybody ever worked on a custom rom for the LG V60 or why we don't have any rom yet if we already have root and custom recovery, yes I know we need more than that to make a rom possible.
If somebody could make it real, I'll be more than happy to donate.
PD: Sorry if I have bad written English, just wanna start some discussion about this topic
We have about zero developers who are ready to work on that. And one problem is, no one has built device tree for v60 yet and that alone is a big task but I know developers people in the v50 group who are ready to work on v60 once they buy one. So with time, I think developments will start for v60 since it's a great device.
