So this is what happened in short. I used Advanced Task Killer app to kill apps to save battery. It worked well for about couple of days. I was careful in what apps to kill. But after my last boot I unintentionally killed some app/task after which i get a "blank screen".
My phone boots normally. I can view my phone screen wallpaper in my locked mode. But when I unlock my phone I get this black area below my notification bar. Only my notification bar works. The menu, home, back and search button do not trigger anything in the black screen. Incoming call is received but i cannot attend them.
I tried multiple reboots. Took off my battery, sim for a few min and booted again. The black screen wont go away. I did a backup using clockwork recovery couple of days back. The last app i installed was Lookout antivirus.
Can someone please guide me how to fix this issue
I will be out for a few hours. I will respond as soon as I'm back. Thank you
Odin back to JFD Stock, Then root and see if that resolves the issue. If it does, then reflash your rom, do not forget to make a backup and save an extra copy on the computer not the phone.
If Flashing Stock does not resolve, then it very likely to be a hardware problem.
what launcher are you using? if its anything besides the gingerbread launcher or twiz then you are probably accidentally killing the launcher you are using and thats resulting in the launcher having to reboot. be very careful with your auto kill settings or set exceptions for your launcher.
you could adb push a different launcher so when you hit home it would ask which one to use and select the new one to gain access.
Hi i resolved the issue by restoring backup. i think killing launcher pro prevented the home screen from launching. Since I could view other thing I hit the power button and then chose Recovery option. It booted in clockwork recovery and I restored a backup I did a couple of days ago and the restore fixed the issue.
Thanks for your inputs.
Howdy all,
This might be stupid of me, but i will ask anyway...
I have my Razr running ICS with Go Launcher
Everytime i go into the app drawer, and tap "Running", I find all these apps that i haven't even opened. I tap the little broom to close all apps (Which it does) then exit out. A couple of minutes later, even after not opening anything, i go back and there are all these apps running again that i don't use.
My questions are...
1) Why are these apps popping up???
2) Is there a way to stop it from happening again???
I feel that it would be draining my battery having all these apps running in the background, which as you could imagine would be fairly annoying lol
If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated
Thank you in advance
:good:
Android always runs apps in the background and from what I understand some may be for a feature you do not use but there are required processes for the system to function.
What you can do is go into settings, applications, all, and things you do not use you can uninstall updates and then disable them.
I got rid of a bunch of background apps that way.

or get rom toolbox and use the auto start manager to choose which applications will start in the background during boot. but do this with caution as it can cause you to have a boot loop if you accidentally disable a system required file from being loaded

Do you need to be rooted to use Rom Toolbox???
yes
That's Android for ya lol. You can also root the phone and delete certain apps you don't want. Titanium Back Up is good. If you do this make sure you check the thread of bloat that's OK to remove. Some apps need to be on the phone. And if you do root your phone and flash roms most roms already remove unnecessary apps.

I noticed this early on and it was annoying me a lot. Especially as it was slowing the whole system down, when it was sat at 91% of memory being used. So I've turned off background processes in the developers options in the settings menu. Not sure if thats available unrooted, but I've got that option now. Now it sits at 78%.
I don't have Go Launcher, did use it with GB, but I've got the power meter and the memory status bar.

Trying the "No background processes" option now (It is in developers options as default without rooting the phone) :good:
So how do we fix this, I could google and find that others are experiencing it, known glitch, but what's the fix or work around.
Every time you set it as default it goes back to the crappy emui launcher
I also just found out I can't change the default phone dialer, calendar and a few others using the default app manager, i just tried, but its defaulting to android hwresolver, calendar, etc...
i first froze it with titanum backup and that seemed to work... now uninstalled it with titanium backup (made a backup) and that got rid of it, much less memory useage now yay...
Can't seem to use an aftermarket lock screen either, keeps defaulting to the stock lock screen....
so it appears basically most of the system apps can't be changed even if you set as default seems to go right back except if you freeze or uninstall well that's lame...
I normally use ZUI locker and it's not sticking...
That's why they pulled the update. Maybe when it goes back up the issues will be fixed.

You can set your phone to have no lock screen by going to settings>security>screen lock off. Then set your 3rd party lock screen. I'm using CM Locker with no issues at all.
Alternatively, you can freeze the stock lockscreen as well, its called keyguard, but I find this unnecessary, once it's off in settings.

Please don't post that you can't OTA until you have restored the default launcher that you deleted.
I had his problem a few months back. You could try my post from another thread :
"Hi. I had the same problem on b606. Nothing would stick as a launcher as Huawei Home always overrides everything.
I got around this by installing nova launcher from playstore ( I'm sure any other launcher will work fine ).
Nova Launcher wouldn't stick as default launcher, Huawei Home always overrode it, so after making sure I had another launcher installed, I installed Rom toolbox pro and used the manage apps setting ( Titanium should also work). I scrolled down to Huawei home, tapped on it and selected "FREEZE". As soon as you do this, the option to set Nova as default launcher appeared and has worked perfectly ever since.
Like I said, you can use any other launcher, just make sure you have it installed before you freeze "Huawei Home" "

+1 on the locker issue. Hi Locker wouldn't stick for me even with the stock locker set to none and set to off in the security settings.
im using nova launcher and not having any problems except missed calls notifications
I have no mods - I simply went to Settings > Manage Apps > Default App Settings and selected Nova Launcher as my default launcher. Then, before backing out of the Launcher options page, I immediately rebooted the phone. It has stuck since.
I'm using 5.1 and nova launcher. I noticed this but found a solution. Open nova from the app drawer so your in the nova settings menu. Scroll down and you'll see 'set as default launcher' this seems to stick. Hasn't reverted back for me yet unless you fully power down your phone. As for the lockscreen I use Microsoft's 'Next' lockscreen. It allows you to just swipe down and still have he security of the system pattern lock.

Hi Members
I have the above phone, with all the latest OTA updates offered for my Huawei Mate 10 pro, its currently running Android 8 EMUI 8
I've noticed if I hold down the homescreen, then go to settings, there doesn't appear to be the option to allow the homescreen to rotate.
In the quick toggles the auto rotate is on, and all other apps do rotate into landscape so there's no hardware issue.
Does anyone have a solution to this, I've done all the obvious things like clear caches, turn on/of phone, reset the phone twice to factory.
I'm not running many apps, the phone is not rooted, and I wouldn't consider resetting the phone again (as this doesn't do anything)
My only default launcher is the Huawei 'My Home', one of Huawei's OTG updates changed this to being the only launcher.
I don't want to use another launcher, as this is Huawei system default (I don't really want other issues to appear if I was to run another launcher)
Thanks for any advise
Cheers
I don't think the stock launcher supports landscape mode.
If you split-screen with the gesture and have any of the second screen return to home you can see it rotates into landscape mode. Sadly thats the only way i know
Thanks for all the replys, hopefully Huawei will change this, maybe I'll have to consider running Nova launcher, I've heard Huawei doesn't allow it to be a default launcher though?
you can use whatever launcher you want if you dont use huawei widgets on it(primarily weather widget witch i disabled anyway cause i use another one) . I used nova since day one without issues. maybe there was bug on early software that prevented it but i never had issues.
I am on mate 10 no pro fw13 2c636
Original launcher. In screen enable screen rotate.
Works like a charm. Greetings
I used to have landscape mode too, until firmware update BLA-L09 8.0.0.137. It's gone since then.
thats strange. bla l29 on 137 firmware has that option. huawei probably screwed something up.
Yes, I am on BLA L09 8..0.0.137 (C432) kernel version 4.4.23+, and although I have the 'auto rotate' toggle and switch in settings, there isn't a specific switch or check box to allow Homescreen to rotate.
As you've said madman_cro, Huawei must have messed something up, unless they couldn't get some other aspect of the phone to work while in landscape, and they removed the setting.
I'll wait to see if they rectify it, I have sent Huawei an email
Thanks again everyone for the help
I had an email reply back from Huawei, they said they looked at the settings of a Mate 10 pro at there end, and confirmed that there was a checkbox picker for 'disabling homescreen auto rotation' , whether the phone they had looked into at there end had been fully updated to it's current UK status, I don't know.
I have sent back a reply with screenshots of my phone as it currently stands in the settings, Android version, and firmware version
I have the same issue, firmware 137 doesn't have landscape, plus it broke "OK Google" support on my phone...not happy
I've come to the conclusion that the whole Huawei Android/EMUI/hardware eco system has many glitches, and bugs.
I've also found there watch 2 Pro also seems very inconsistent, sometimes i'm getting notifications sometimes not.
And no amount of turning on and off, or resetting, or fiddling with settings permissions, or power policies, or notification allowances seems to sort things.
Huawei need to address these problems... or they risk losing customer business through unreliability issues.
Just let members know, I've had a reply back from Huawei support, and they have said it may be a bug with possibly there latest update, and that it may be resolved in the next update in due course.
I can confirm the same issue, it was working for me in BLA L29 8.0.0.137 (C432) and forced an update to BLA L29 8.0.0.142 (C432) and it was not working anymore.
Tested Nova launcher and this one works for rotation.
I have noticed too “Ok Google” not working until I clear cache/data from the application “Google” after that “OK Google” was back on track.
I did the same from Huawei 'My Home' but no luck.
I have try this update because of this:
- to see how it fix BlueTooth
- add facial recognition
- and if the issue (I would like to be fixed) about stereo channel swap when recording a video from rear camera from stock camera app)
Seb.
If you goto home screen, pinch gesture, setting, allow home screen to rotate
Took me ages to find this!
So I noticed something I find odd, I installed Nova Launcher as my default launcher, and I like to disable unused/uneeded system apps so I froze the 'Moto App Launcher' with rooted method. However I noticed upon freezing it that I can not bring up the recents menu (the one where you can view and switch between apps, far right button in 3 button nav).
Defrosting Moto App Launcher immediately makes the recents menu work again (in any launcher). So I'm wondering if this is normal behavior for this phone (SOFIA - Android 10 stock - magisk rooted),
...and why does the Moto App Launcher seem to have this effect, how is it tied to the resents menu? I have not observed this type of behavior on other phones when disabling/replacing stock launchers.
Not a real problem but I am curious as to the explanation, would anyone care to try it out and see if you get the same effect? Thanks.
So is this not happening for anyone else, or no one cares to try? Just freeze it in Titanium Backup or something like that and see if you can still bring up the recents menu, it would really ease my mind, thanks in advance I know someone will find it in their heart to do the right thing.
Why do you need to freeze the default launcher? Just wondering. BTW, I haven't rooted my phone yet, which means I can't freeze the launcher like you ask. But I'm thinking it's like freezing the default file manager, which causes some problems.
