I want to share my opinion pros/cons after use this device for a week. I would frankly say what is good, what is bad.
The unit i have is Xiaomi mi note 2 128gb/6gb non-global version.
cons:
color shift on curve edges, it look abit blue by eye ( when screen is display light tone - white ). This not effect with dark tone color ( It look normal from flat to edges curve )
camera it come with older build compare to mi5s which announce 2 months before mi note 2. Mi note 2 come with imx318 which release since Feb 2016 compere to mi5s come with imx378 which release on Sep 2016. Look at that gap for possible improvement make me feel abit disappoint. ( but it also has a pros from sacrifice **see in Pros**)
It doesn't come with 3D touch (T_T)
LTE bands for non-global version. Why they remove FDD B8. but mi5s have 5 bands include B8
Benchmark Performance for 128/6gb model abit disappoint. It only get around 110k-125k on antutu, 1800SC 3900MC on Geekbench. Compare to other phone with this spec even mi note 64/4gb got higher. ( I think this must be a software issue, with this spec it can improve with better ROM and Kernel. Still waiting for it )
Announce on the same day with Mi mix. Which pull down the hype on mi flagship (mi note2). Cause less developer taking eyes on mi note 2 over Mi mix by comparing on both forum.
Price per performance compare to mi5s.
Pros:
Battery 4070 mAh. DAMN!!! this make no wonder using this phone through a day. Daily use, message, phone call, browse, social, take photo, Bluetooth streaming, gaming, watch youtube still get spare juice before go to bed. No need to carry power bank around.
Feeling so good on hand. Its thin with that battery size. The dual curve edge feel premium. Whole Metal build + gorilla glass.
Spec sheet. even though i talk about performance above, But with this spec hardware there is huge gap to improve by software later.
Camera. Sacrifice newer model but what we get is image stabilization @4K and higher Megapixel. wide angle front facing camera.
Sound both on speaker and headphone quite good.
Equip with all kind of connectivity even infrared.
Fast and accurate fingerprint sensor.
Conclusion:
In real world scenario, i didn't feel any lag or slow performance. It still one of the fast/best phone in the market today. Camera is good just dont read the spec sheet. Feel premium on hand. Huge battery capacity more than enough for daily use, plus quick charge. Good sound. fast fingerprint scan. Have to wait abit for custom rom and kernel. Better if you can get global version.

Does it play x265/hevc well? (use mx player + custom codec)

SD 821 is much more powerful than tegra x1 and yes it plays 10 bit hevc videos. I have Nvidia shield TV too, ja it's good but SD 821 is faster and better.

Yes, I saw many 4gb mi note 2 benchmark around 145-160k. With my unit (6gb mi note 2) i expect to see better ram performance but i got even lower than 4gb model. I think with newer rom update could improve ram management on 6gb model.
But as i said on original post that real world use i didnt get any pull down performance.
Do you need to wake the phone to use the fingerprint sensor? Or is it like most phones that can be woken up and unlocked with a fingerprint scan?

You have to press to the home/fingerprint sensor to wake and unlock the phone at the same time.
How is the display of the mi note 2? Many reviewers are quite disappointed by the display. I wonder how sharp it is because of 5.7" amoled screen. Pentile matrix and 1080p resolution with that screen size could be a concern for me.
I just can't decide between MI note 2 and oneplus 3t...oneplus is much much cheaper than MI note 2 in 128 GB configuration and I guess it will be available much faster than mi note 2. But I want the edge screen so badly.

Frankly I would say that display is better then any other IPS screen in terms of color reproduction. Brightness is fine but Xiaomi 5s is brighter at max. It is not an issue for me because I keep brightness at 80%, in bright condition. Here's a bad thing I think, the screen changes to bluish tint if you look at it at angle but most noticeable if display is white. When it comes to sharpness it's fine to me but I think many people will say it's not sharp enough because they just happen to know that there are 2k displays on the other phones. They would never guessed what resolution particular displays has by just looking at it. OnePlus 3t it might be better in some aspects but personally it's looking boring to me and I would never consider one for myself. Besides I hate when camera frame is taller/higher than surface as it's case with OnePlus. The other thing you have to put in consideration is MIUI and for now there is no global firmware but I flashed Xiaomi.eu ROM and it's flawless. There are other phones in the same category like Leeco le pro 3 or vivo xplay6. Best regards

Ihave not read this wrong, as of November, there has been a 128GB/6GB combination of the 5.7" Xiaomi Mi Note 2 with a Global ROM? Or the CN one with litterally 4 or 5 unlocked bands?
So this phone must be woken up for the finger print to work. It doesn't try reading a fingerprint tap on the button and ,must be woken up to work?

That is correct, but still it's done by one touch, while yu pressing the button the fingerprint scanner is unlocking the locked screen at same time.
Mi note 2 global version is about to be realest but all my Xiaomi mi phones are compatible in my country ( Denmark) so I am not bothered.

I think the word disappoint for display of mi note 2 is under expectation. Everyone who plan to buy this phone would expect to see gorgeous IPS curve display. But after you get the phone hand on and the color on the edge doesn't seem as expectation so it would be abit disappoint.
As a mi note2 user I would say first impression was abit disappointed for display. The color on curve edge seem abit blue (only on white background) and abit warm tone display (compared to 1+2 i had used before mi note2).
But after using this phone for few days you will get use to color of display. Now i didn't feel any color change on the curve edges (after get used to) but the curve edge of screen still make you feel good on hand. Normally we look directly to screen not to the curve so right now color on the curve doesn't make me feel bad otherwise curve is still curve every time you hold your phone you always feel good on hand.
Thanks for the feedback. I personally don't care about other phones 2k displays (VR is not of relevance for me at all). I'm running the redmi note 3 pro international at the moment and the display is just fantastic. I just don't want a downgrade in display quality for my next phone which will cost about 4x more than the redmi note 3. In general the note 3 pro is already the perfect phone for its price tag (except for camera quality) but I always happened to be one of the enthusiast guys and I'm very curious about the curved screen.
An other thing that bothers me is the battery life. Reviewers speak about 4-5hrs on screen time. On the note 3 you can easily get between at least 7 hrs up to 10 hrs for some ppl. The difference in screen size is just 0.2 inches and the capacity is the same.
So what is the battery life for you guys?
The camera seems to be decent but it seems that pixel and s7/edge still play in their own league tho...
BTW: is anyone using the edge functions on the mi note 2?

Battery life in my opinion is the best i ever used. It take me pass daily usage with 30%+,- before go to bed.
Yesterday i put phone on airplane mode during 9.30 hours flight. Mi note 2 is handle idle so well.

I am a bit new to this. I have new note 2 with unlocked boot loader and would like to flash .eu rom. Do I need to unlock boot loader? If not too much trouble, can you provide directions on what you did to install the .eu rom?

1. Yes, bootloader must be unlocked and TWRP for Mi note 2 must be flashed at first.

Key bit is make sure you buy the Snapdragon version of either.
Will have more support here and in other places.
There is now a Redmi note 4 with band 20 (great for the UK) now available.
That has a slower processor than the 3 but still will be very good.
Also make sure you get as much ram as possible. Miui with its pluses and minuses is a resource hogger so more ram the better.

I purchased the 4x international version. I had a Samsung Galaxy Note5 before this. I don't care what specs say this phone is really nice. I say take the chance and get it. I doubt you will be disappointed.

Great Battery Life 24 hour of medium to heavy use with 8-10h LTE only consume 50% battery
Screen is nice
Android 7 (many custom rom if you dont like MIUI)
Looks expensive and feel expensive
PRICE
Cons:
Camera is what you pay for
Snapdragon 625 with Adreno 506 is below average for heavy gamer, great for normal usage
No quick charge, took around 2.45h to charge from 5% to 100%
Hard to get a good screen protector with the 2.5d screen

After weeks of waiting and reviewing, reading and thinking, i finally put my money on Redmi Note 4.
Got the Black 64GB 4GB ram version

More than enough memory - Ram & Internal
Great build quality
Almost best Hardware to cost - value for money
Stable Rom build
****load of development in terms of ROM's & Kernels
2 yrs warranty from the supplier here - including screen and water damage
Im not a heavy gamer or a photo geek so dont really care for Gaming or low light photos. My Note 5 still takes gr8 images
Hence thats my Vote

Still Redmi Note 4X, just bought it 2-3 weeks ago the best choice i make this year XD

Is redmi note 3 pro better for gaming than rn4?
It will give slightly more fps, but much worse battery life.
Sorry to jump in here, but i am also shopping for a new phone
I'm currently using huawei honor 5x, it was a great phone at a cheap price with plenty of XDA support
however, the honor 5x is starting to boggle down a bit on Nougat and i want to expand pass the 2gb RAM
The OnePlus 3T is what I really desire, but I can't pull the trigger with that price tag
I've been going back and forth between the Nexus 5x and Redmi Note 4X
the specs seem very respectable on the 4gb 64gb version and i'm having a hard time finding a better phone at this price point
with plenty of XDA support for this device, i'm starting to really lean towards this RN4x
They are both good phones, thing is you wont get new Nexus 5x only used or refurbished which often comes with poor exhausted batteries.
Also im not big fan of Snapdragon 808/810.. they heat up like crazy, which also results in poor battery life and thermal throttling.
I remember LG G Flex 2 i had back in the day with Snap 810, after gaming session i could probably use it as iron press.

Well. Redmi Note sells way more than Mi 8 Lite. We expect more development there.
But you know, 8 Lite is faster, has USB type-C, good size and weight, better little notch, less rounded corners, it's more premium, has better cameras
Redmi Note 6 Pro has better battery life, 3.5mm jack, more development and it's cheaper.

This will be a summary based on Youtube reviews and in-depth articles coming from popular tech portals such as Android Authority, GSM Arena and XDA Developers.
In terms of design and built quality both of these devices are very eye-pleasing, each having its own unique look. The Redmi Note 7 Pro impresses with its glossy gradient color finish (Aura Design) which results in a more premium look and feel compared to the Realme 3 Pro which has a polycarbonate back that looks nice due to its S-shape pattern (3D Speedway Design). Here is where the Redmi Note 7 Pro has the upper hand due to its Gorilla Glass 5 back which has a better protection against scratches than the polycarbonate back found on the Realme 3 Pro. Because of the way it's built the former feels better in hand and more solid than the latter, giving the impression of a true flagship experience. Although it remains only a matter of preference as far as design is concerned, still the Redmi Note 7 Pro is the one which offers a more premium aspect. The buttons feedback is quite good on both devices. They have a fair amount of "click" to them and behave as expected. The Redmi Note 7 Pro is equipped with splash protection thanks to the P2i nano-coating, while the Realme 3 Pro claims to have some dust and splash protection as well, although we have no information about its rating since it has not yet been disclosed.
Both devices have very reliable fingerprint scanners on the back which are quite consistent and hardly ever fail. And despite the hype around UD fingerprint scanners, it's actually a plus to have a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner on these devices since they are much more reliable and much faster than the former ones, and there is also the possibility of applying a tempered glass while having the ability to use the fingerprint scanner in the same time, which is something that cannot be achieved with UD fingerprint scanners, although there are some tempered glass manufacturers which are already developing a type of glass that also works with in-display fingerprint scanners, but the price will be quite high and we aren't sure about their reliability either. It's a shame that the trustworthy rear-mounted fingerprint scanners are slowly being replaced with UD fingerprint scanners, but I digress...
Moving to the display quality both devices have very decent panels with Gorilla Glass 5 protection, good viewing angles, color accuracy, crisp image quality and same size. But due to the different calibration mode the media viewing experience and sunlight visibility is slightly better on the Redmi Note 7 Pro. And as far as the notch is concerned, the dot-notch on the Redmi Note 7 Pro and dewdrop-notch on the Realme 3 Pro look equally nice with minimal intrusion. On the other hand the Realme 3 Pro has thinner bezels compared to the Redmi Note 7 Pro giving a better screen-to-ratio, however the downside of this is the fact that it is more prone to accidental touches on the sides. Also there are no screen-bleeding issues to worry about in both cases.
In the chipset department both devices are equipped with the very best hardware currently found in mid-range smartphones, and the performance is so good that it's literally no different from a true flagship performance as far as overall experience is concerned when it comes to basic tasks like calling, messaging, browsing and so forth. And the Chroma Boost mode exaggerates the oversaturation even further which completely distorts the color accuracy of the photos. I suspect Realme is trying to make up for the loss of dynamic range by doing so, yet the end result is nowhere near as you get with the pixel-binning technology provided by the Sony IMX586 sensor which captures photos with a much more natural look thanks to Xiaomi's better image processing implementation. As for the 64MP Ultra HD Mode on the Realme 3 Pro is just a gimmick achieved by pixel interpolation with added oversharpening, but gives good results nonetheless during daytime. Whereas the Redmi Note 7 Pro natively supports 48MP snapshots which can be captured by using the PRO mode. The 960fps Super Slo-Mo Video on the Realme 3 Pro is also a software gimmick since the Snapdragon 710 chipset is not natively equipped with such a feature, but it's nice to have it anyway. However overall video quality is better on the Redmi Note 7 Pro which provides more clarity, color accuracy, dynamic range and much better EIS. AI Scene Detection seems to work very well on both devices, while the HDR mode seems to be better on the Realme 3 Pro in some cases. But in most scenarios the Redmi Note 7 Pro manages to bring back detail from shadows without blowing up the highlights. However the portrait mode is absolutely stellar on the Redmi Note 7 Pro, and with the help of GCam you could achieve astonishing results which are on par with many high-end cameras. Although the edge detection could be better.
Something important to note here is the upgraded Spectra 250L ISP present in the Snapdragon 675 which provides even better image processing compared to the standard Spectra 250 ISP present in the Snapdragon 710. As far as the secondary depth sensors are concerned, they have more or less the same performance on both devices, but due to the different image processing on the Realme 3 Pro the photos captured with this device end up having more background blur. On the other hand the Redmi Note 7 Pro has a Dual-LED flash, whereas the Realme 3 Pro has a Single-LED flash.
Speaking of low-light photography, here is where the Redmi Note 7 Pro excels by achieving amazing results using the manual long-exposure found in the PRO mode. As for the night-mode implementation I must say I'm actually surprised... When there's enough light it performs even better than GCam's night-sight in terms of highlights conservation, sharpness and overall exposure. However, it seems all this is achieved at the expense of detail loss which can be clearly seen once you zoom into the photo. And here is where GCam's night-sight excels by preserving more detail, but on the other hand failing to impress when it comes to highlights conservation (street lights and luminous signboards are completely blown out), while sharpness and overall exposure fall short as well. MIUI's night-mode implementation is one of the best I've seen so far. It's almost on par with Huawei's night-mode processing, but still there is room for improvement when it comes to detail preservation. The Sony IMX586 sensor has a lot of potential and with the proper night-mode implementation it can do much better than this. But GCam's night-sight is absolutely stellar when it comes to extreme low-light situations.
I would like to see Xiaomi work harder towards polishing a more refined night-mode implementation. The one developed by Realme isn't bad either, and in some situations photos shot with Nightscape manage to preserve even more detail than the photos shot with Xiaomi's night-mode.
Now coming to the front-facing camera, both devices perform very well during daylight. The 13MP Omnivision sensor on the Redmi Note 7 Pro can achieve good results given the right amount of light, but struggles in poorly lit scenarios where it disappoints. Here is where the 25MP sensor on the Realme 3 Pro excels and manages to give amazing low-light results putting the Redmi Note 7 Pro to shame. Because of this the face-unlock is much more reliable and performs better than the one found on the Redmi Note 7 Pro. But Xiaomi has already promised to bring improvements in this department so it remains a work in progress.
The Redmi Note 7 Pro is equipped with an IR blaster which is not present on the Realme 3 Pro. However the latter is equipped with a newer X15 LTE modem providing faster download speeds up to 800 Mbps, while the X12 LTE modem found on the Redmi Note 7 Pro provides download speeds up to 600 Mbps. The Realme 3 Pro is also lighter than the Redmi Note 7 Pro, the former weighing 172 g, while the latter weighing 186 g. But the weight distribution on the Redmi Note 7 Pro is done very well and only adds to the solid feel of the device. The Redmi Note 7 Pro scores another point with its useful LED notification light which is absent on the Realme 3 Pro. However the Realme 3 Pro has a better SIM-slot with the ability to use two nano-SIM cards and a MicroSD card at the same time, whereas the Redmi Note 7 Pro has a hybrid SIM-slot. Both devices have an FM Radio. The speaker found on the Realme 3 Pro is louder, however the audio quality on the Redmi Note 7 Pro is much better, with a more clear, crisp sound and punchy bass. And there is no distortion present at maximum volume. It performs surprisingly well for a mid-range device and offers a great audio playback experience. The output coming from the 3.5mm jack port also seems to be better on the Redmi Note 7 Pro, delivering a more balanced and rich sound than the Realme 3 Pro.
As for the OS department it remains a matter of personal preference, although MIUI is much more polished and feature-packed than Color OS and it also benefits from a larger developer community with more support. This being said, both the Redmi Note 7 Pro and the Realme 3 Pro perform exceptionally well with no bothersome lags or unexpected crashes.
Realme 3 Pro has managed to put up quite a fight and it definitely deserves your full attention and appreciation. But did it succeed in dethroning the Redmi Note 7 Pro? Not at all! The king still reigns supreme! Xiaomi has nothing to worry about, but the company should definitely step up the game in the software department.

If you are aiming for a better gaming experience go for the Realme 3 Pro.

This will be a summary based on Youtube reviews and in-depth articles coming from popular tech portals such as Android Authority, GSM Arena and XDA Developers.
In terms of design and built quality both of these devices are very eye-pleasing, each having its own unique look. The buttons feedback is quite good on both devices. They have a fair amount of "click" to them and behave as expected. The Redmi Note 7 Pro is equipped with splash protection thanks to the P2i nano-coating, while the Realme 3 Pro claims to have some dust and splash protection as well, although we have no information about its rating since it has not yet been disclosed.
Both devices have very reliable fingerprint scanners on the back which are quite consistent and hardly ever fail. And despite the hype around UD fingerprint scanners, it's actually a plus to have a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner on these devices since they are much more reliable and much faster than the former ones, and there is also the possibility of applying a tempered glass while having the ability to use the fingerprint scanner in the same time, which is something that cannot be achieved with UD fingerprint scanners, although there are some tempered glass manufacturers which are already developing a type of glass that also works with in-display fingerprint scanners, but the price will be quite high and we aren't sure about their reliability either. It's a shame that the trustworthy rear-mounted fingerprint scanners are slowly being replaced with UD fingerprint scanners, but I digress...
Moving to the display quality both devices have very decent panels with Gorilla Glass 5 protection, good viewing angles, color accuracy, crisp image quality and same size. But due to the different calibration mode the media viewing experience and sunlight visibility is slightly better on the Redmi Note 7 Pro. And as far as the notch is concerned, the dot-notch on the Redmi Note 7 Pro and dewdrop-notch on the Realme 3 Pro look equally nice with minimal intrusion. On the other hand the Realme 3 Pro has thinner bezels compared to the Redmi Note 7 Pro giving a better screen-to-ratio, however the downside of this is the fact that it is more prone to accidental touches on the sides. Also there are no screen-bleeding issues to worry about in both cases.
