Hello Everybody,
Today, my xda became very wet, because it was falling in the water. I've open the xda and at this moment it's drying at home. The screen has a blak spot about 1 inch. Does anybody know what my chances are to get this device working again.
thanks,
Kees
p.s. forgive me for my poor english, i'm living in the netherlands.
Not sure on this one
Might be just the screen thats damaged, but I think this is the most expensive part of the XDA to replace...
Maybe someone else with a bit more experience can reply... sorry
I put My Palm505 on top of the throne in the bathroom which unfortunately has a rounded top.
And before anyone say echhhh! it was AFTER I hv flush ok? Thats when I switch to the dark side an bought a Xda.

Alright so I had a pair of motorola s9s for about 3 weeks before sweating on them at the gym broke them.
Does anyone know of any decent bluetooth headphones that are reliable (battery doesn'd die after a month etc. etc.) that work well with the G1?
I have the first generation Motorola bluetooth stereo headphones, the HT820. I originally purchased them back in 2007 to use with my t-mobile MDA (HTC Wizard), and they worked well then and they continue to work now. They are much bigger than anything Motorola has out now, but they do work. I currently have Cyanogen's ROM on my G1 and they did work with the original cupcake ROM from T-Mobile. These headphones also have a built in mic so you can take phone calls.
Hope this helps.
I recently purchased the Samsung SBH500 headphones. I have only had them for a few weeks so I cannot tell you long term reliability but I have really enjoyed using them. I have taken them on a run a few times and have had no trouble yet. I have read a few reviews of people complaining that they are unconfortable and ears get hot when working out with them. I have not experienced either. I have found these more comfortable than other around-the-neck sets. The ear padding is a little thick but it sort of muffles the ambient noise. I have found the audio quality for music and calls both outstanding. I would recommend these if you were looking for over the ear headphones.
You should try contacting Motorola about your s9s. When researching BT headphones, I seem to remember reading that Motorola knows that this is an issue. Perhaps they will swap these out for you. Good Luck!
S9-HD
I thought the S9's are supposed to be sweat resistant. I have a S9-HD and they seem to be holding up fine. I've been using them on runs and bike rides for a couple months now. I do admit though that not much sweat gets to them cuz most of my sweat evaporates as I run. When I stop moving, I start pouring sweat, which is when the headphones get hit the hardest. They're still working great.
I haven't tried the jaybird bluetooth headphones. They're supposedly water and sweat resistant. They sound like they're the bomb. I'm tempted to get a set. Here's a link for more info:

Hey guys thanks for all the replies!
I actually just ordered a pair of samsung sbh170's (if i remember correctly) they didn't have to many complaints besides being to small.
If they don't work i will definetly be checking out the sbh500's they look really nice, and i might get a pair for non gym use too. ( I never knew internet radio at work could be so addictive.)
I checked out the jaybirds before i bought the samsungs that should be coming in a couple days. They had mixed reviews on amazon, just like the s9's, and cost around $100-$120 so i think i'm gonna keep my distance from those, I'm a college student lol.
As for the s9's I didn't have the HD's, I had the older versions, which were apparently less sweat resistant than the new ones. I took them appart and it looks like the main circuit board got covered in sweat (there is discoloration).
I had initially thought it was the battery, but that would be hard to replace. The battery in them is a no name most likely chinese peice of crap, if anyone else is having a problem with the battery you may be able to retrofit a rechargable AAA batery in ( i played around with a voltmeter and the old battery appeared to be 1.5V's) but that would take a little bit of time and patients, I only paid 30 bucks for them, and used them pretty consistently for a month (pretty much every day at the gym too.)
If I had paid $100 at best buy then I would be more upset. I really liked the form factor on them and they were really nice to use at the gym, which is what upset me most about them breaking, its hard going back to wired headphones lol
I've broken two sets, 1 LG and the other I think was a Jabra set. They had both broken around the earpiece in almost the same place because of the plastic they used. While I didnt have any other issues with them, they only lasted about 3 or 4 weeks each.
I went with the s9's for the firm form also... I just made sure to wipe my head and the headset every so often and completely take them off when im cooling down. I will be implementing some fancy vinyl aka electrical tape on them soon to help from getting sepage into the control panels.
The sbh170's look good cause they are more flexible but the 500's look to be almost the same design of the two sets that I had. If I can find the LG set i'll snap a pic and show you what I mean.
i got the sony dr-bt101 headphones about a month ago and they work great. the only thing is they're a little big and over the ear not behind the neck..

oooh those look nice!
I use the HT850's mentioned earlier in this thread. they're a little big and (as someone else commented somewhere on xda) make me look princess leiah-ish but the sound good and work well w/ the G1.
For anyone wanting a cheap set I recommend the Insignia NS-BTHDP.

I got these almost a year ago and take them to the gym and snowboarding regularly so they have been dropped, smashed and covered in snow a lot. I picked mine up off of ebay with $10 winning bid (shipped). They aren't fancy but have survived well for being so cheap.
These are on their way to me. I'll let you all know what I think of them.

You guys would use those headphones while working out? Do they stay in place while jogging? Are they sweat resistant? Just from the looks of them, they are too bulky for me (at least while working out).

My s9's died yesterday... I mean DIED, they wont chrage no matter what
As much as I hate to go back to wired devices I really like the options the ones you picked up give. Small and simple with good support (body wide clip).
So please post when you can
I Have a question for you guys. I want a headset that I can listen to music with while wearing it on only one ear, so not headphones but a headset that has the A2DP and AVRCP. IF you guys know about one let me know because that way I can listen to music at work and look like im actually working hard.
http://www.jaybirdgear.com/bluetooth-stereo-headphones-features.php I have these but the audio goes in and out on my G1 and even worst on my laptop.
Get the Plantronics 855. The second earpiece is removable, and without it looks just like the HFP-only 815 but still plays at A2DP quality.

OK so they showed up today. I have them charging at work and will give them a go when I run tonight. I'll post results either tonight or tomorrow morning.
update: Well I can't get them to pair. They paired up fine with my nokia N95, but android is having trouble. If I could get it to let me enter the passcode 0000 manually, I am sure it would work. Any ideas?
update2: OK so I got them paired, finally, but they dont seem to be working. I got them connected but theres no sound coming through them. They do work well with my n95 however so that's even more frustrating. Sound quality is OK, but I am going to try and return them. Any questions before I do?
i sweat a whole lot and have yet to find any wireless that can stand up to the abuse. i bought the adapter from HTC that includes a mic and 3.5 adapter. 10 bucks from t mobile.
while it still has wires it hasnt fallen victim to the sweat. FML in Alabama during the summer.
Hi guys I recently bought an Xperia S and only yesterday I accidentally dropped abit of Mayoneese on my phone while I was eating. I think the Mayoneese managed to get in my phones ear speaker. Now it sounds like it is blocked, it has sound but very soft, almost like on low volume. And when I'm taking calls the ear speaker heats up fast. Is there anyway to fix this? Everything else is working just as fine. Thanks in advance.

No its lower than usual, I can barely hear it.

Well, you have two options... either you put your Xperia S between two breads since mayonnaise is already there and add tomato or cucumber... or try to use vacuum to suck out the mayonnaise...

I had similar problem with my old (t)rusty Hero. Over time the metal mesh filled with everything and hardened pretty well. I had to disassemble it and soak in alcohol for a while.
Do the next only and ONLY if you have a steady hand and good eye! Don't rush!
What you should do:
1. Go to the nearest pharmacy and buy a small syringe with blunt needle 1-1.5mm or larger. Don't use the sharp one, it will damage your phone. If you have to use the sharp one, take some honing stone (from kitchen) and grind it down to nice flat end and finish it that it has no sharp edges. If you cant do that find some knife sharpener and ask him to do it for you. Buy him a beer.
2. When you succeeded with needle, go to nearest shop with paints etc. and ask for burner fuel used for camping burners and for cleaning. It's the cleanest alcohol you can get (Do not drink this stuff). Don't use one from pharmacy because its more expensive and always has some additives inside. You can see if its pure by dropping some on clean glass. After evaporation it should leave nothing on the surface. The pharmacy grade will leave whitish residue behind - it's some kind of hydratation creme.. Do not use acetone!!! It will ruin your phone for sure!
3. Fill the syringe 1/3rd or less and gently put some alcohol on the speaker's mesh. Be careful, its very fragile. Don't put to much of it, you can ruin your speaker or even the display that way.
You should not use more than half drop per application. Wet the mesh and wait a little bit. Then wet it again and suck back. Use wooden stick (not sharp) to work on the mesh, don't rub, be very, very gently.
4. Flush the syringe and fill it again with fresh alcohol. Repeat step #3 until you are satisfied with results.
5. Get rid of mayonaise, ketchup etc., at least when your phone is nearby.
Do this only, and only if you are 100% sure you can do it correctly and have the proper stuff. Don't improvise or rush. Take the time to make it properly, or take it to repair in some gsm service/Sony service - that would bee cheaper than a new phone

Mine is very clear and loud. But you have to hold it properly.
Maybe we can compare when I'm in Fiume next time?
Okay apparently I Googled and found a way. Just suck and blow the Earpiece for a few days. Now the sound is louder. Slowly it will fix this problem.

So for about 2 seconds, my shiny new Samsung Galaxy S4 (Verizon) was submerged in water. I pulled it out, jerked the battery and fed it to the rice for a couple of days.
Amazingly enough, the unit survived - but with one caveat.
Anytime the speaker is powered up to play a sound, you can hear "radio noise" ... popping, clicking, etc.
Most of the time, the audio DOES PLAY as well, but even if you have the sound muted complete, the speaker still gets a power hit when a sound is "supposed" to play (muted or not), so it makes it impossible for me to use my phone in silence with all the popping and snapping and noise.
Audio clip available upon request.
I ordered and replaced the loudspeaker assembly (four screws, no cables - seemed like a brain dead easy solution). This had ZERO effect on repairing the issue.
Can ANYONE point me in the right direction? I would have thought replacing that speaker assembly would have been a slam dunk win but I'm no expert.
Thanks so much!
By the way, no other audio is affected. Headphone sound is perfect, earpiece sound is perfect. Mic appears to be perfect.
Rice doesn't remove moisture completely from your phone. You have a short. Silica works the best for an emergency situation. You best bet live with the speaker or its time to use the insurance

Unfortunately, I had no silica at the time
Insurance is not an option (I don't THINK) because Verizon considers it "customer supplied equipment" - and I still have 11 months to "pay it off". Very depressing.
Probably not going to be cost effective to repair either. Sigh.
Well then .. turned out to be insured after all. $100 deductible. I gotta say, they got the replacement system down pat.
I had a new phone and was up and running withing 36 hours.
Got my ZU a week or so, totally in love with it! "i'm a size queen" lol
leaving this aside, I went on to test it's underwater capabilities and was quite confident as my previous Z was a warrior and no water infiltration in one year!
after submersion, that was for ~5 seconds I carefully wiped it dry and made sure there is no water left in the headphone jack
6 hours later I leave work and plug my headphones in and SURPRISE! at max volume the phone acts like it loses contact with the headphones and pauses the track in WALKMAN.
same in FM radio, tried with 3 different pairs of headphones.
should I let it more toooo...idk get the headphone jack dry off?
Water damage indicator is white, no infiltration and i made SUUUURE i had the flaps closed.
help me guys
UPDATE:
left it alone for a while and it's all good now
seems there was a droplet of water or smth still in the headphone jack.
sigh, maybe a protective flap for it is not that bad afterall? lol
thanks anyway guys
back to being happy with my ZU ^.^
