Of course it's unnecessary. But there's nothing else to do at the moment on here. It's a little frustrating to see the work in the other variant forums, and to hear crickets and hopes in here.
I KNOW incredible people are hard at work right this minute to fix it, but....
It's looking like we will be last to see Voodoo, last to see Froyo, and last to see CM.
I'm not the whining type, but.....

If you're (the general you, not calling anyone out) interested in development, I suggest joining the IRC channel #samsung-fascinate on freenode. This is where you'll get the most up to date information. (For example, we were testing CWM recovery with Koush long before the first post showed up here).
If you'd like a small project to get you in the swing of things, and you're slightly familiar with linux and can get a VM up and running, you could always download the source from Samsung and learn how to compile your own kernel. I've seen a few people in the channel go from knowing pretty much nothing to getting their kernels compiled. Even if you can't get a linux VM up and running, maybe someone in the channel could help you with that.
Obviously thanks to Samsung, the kernel won't boot, but going through the process will help broaden your knowledge and give you some insight into Android and Linux in general. There's plenty to learn, and there's a wide range of people there with varying levels of expertise.
There are a number of us who have been at this since day 1, and since we "know" each other a little better, we often communicate directly between ourselves. If you pop in the IRC channel and don't see anything, don't take that to mean that no work is being done.

Like namebrandon said, join the irc channel, but starting a topic like that, then just saying some nonsense, really doesnt need to be done... Your a senior member, we need to be a good influence for the new people. Like i said, i've seen you help out and i respect that; but lets try to keep the Android Development to Android Development. If it's something like this atleast file it in general.

and/or you could harass samsung for the kernel signing keys, no coding ability required.

Lol, I had it so bad on my N1 I would test every fourth nightly CM release with four different kernels for performance and battery. I think I had about 200 advanced quadrant screenshots to delete.

Does complying with the gpl allow for a reasonable delay? Because once you get into grey areas like that, what's reasonable? 2 weeks? 3 months?

Aye. I hate the "weeks" portion.. given that its out, i dont think its unfair to demand it now. As it is though, i think the GPL gives 60 days (??) for them to publish the code though, so it may be a while.
Not sure if I don't understand the complexities or everything all the devs here do, but what are the possibilities of the deeper-blue Honeycomb ROM being updated to use a modified version of the 2.2 Nook Color kernel instead of the current 2.1 Nook Color kernel? I assume this would help in getting some items like Flash video etc working properly in the Honeycomb ROM.
Or is the goal still to wait for whenever the 3.0 honeycomb full source is released? Just thinking out loud. Interested to see what others have to say.

There isn't much an updated kernel will do to help the Honeycomb SDK.
I don't see any schedules mentioned in the GPL http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html.

Hopefully the source will help dalingrin, verygreen and fattire cut through the current mysteries with the .32 development kernel for CM7.
Seems like a lot of progress was made without B&N's help (smart developers), but even if only a few optimized drivers can be poached that is better than nothing.

As i replied, the anxious part of me does not understand any delay really, other than trying to keep the source code away from us "hackers" for as long as possible. The code is obviously in use, so why not release it?
Ah well..
There are probably lawyers hemming and hawing over them releasing it. They probably are trying to ensure that they haven't violated some other patent/copyright in their code which they actually might get sued over.

Perhaps, but the code is already shipping - its not to say an update can't get pushed out, but just because we can't see the source, doesn't mean current violations are excused.
As it is, the linux kernel is GPL; they can't not release it. So again, i am still frustrated at the hold up...
Probably just the usual corporate speed. They don't like to publish anything before they have to, if only for liability and exposure. Probably the last thing on the rollout list, too.

We are actually very close to having a good .32 kernel already. Some of us have been using .32 full time I think. Verygreen did most of the work on the port. He scrapped my .32 work and started over.
We only need a few updated drivers from them and we'll be good. So I expect a prompt release once we have B&N source.

Perhaps a silly question, but to the end user- what will the difference be between the current and .32 kernel? Faster/better/stronger/able to make cappuccinos?

I was actually using it for a while. Just needed more clock/governor steppings and the weird "broken SD" and battery fixed, as you already know. It is flying though.

The clock/governor issue is because only the performance governor is compiled into the kernel right now. The broken SD warning is mostly fixed and I believe the same for the battery.

you are confusing secretive with lacking in time. Some things don't get shared, because otherwise everyone bugs me about it, and the little time I do have for things ends up being eaten up by those people. Other things don't get shared because they are simply tests that may or may not even pan out.

Naa i appreciate your busy matey, i know your at uni and doing other things its just whenever anyone asks about the Ubuntu project its usually met with silence.
I honestly think you should start your own thread about your project and update whenever you have the time etc ... i know there are some members that just want want want, but theres plenty that would support your work and be greatful that your just trying your best ... hey no one else can do it !
My comment wasnt ment to be a flame, i'm patiently waiting myself for anything you can come up with, its just sometimes i'd love to know how far your getting etc

I didn't interpret what you said as a flame, I was just "going on record" so to speak The development cycle is rather unique due to the device specificities so I have been avoiding creating a new thread so I can keep focused on that. I will be creating a thread soon(tm) for a preview build though (no eta).

This shouldn't be too hard I hope. Considering the prime and n7 share almost everything. The rear cam/keyboard and microsd might be issues. But the kernel may just pickup the cam/microsd.

no, they are not similar devices, they share a cpu/gpu combo, that is pretty much the end of it.
One question it always bug me. When canonical first started to talk about their project some people mention it would be like an app you download out of the market. But if a new kernel is needed, that's not possible, right? The pad would even need to be unlocked.

Most likely yes. Most users looking for Ubuntu are probably unlocked considering that usually flashing anything besides an update requires unlocking.

Canonical said no such thing, ubuntu-on-android is something entirely different to this, it works much like splashtop does on the atrix. They also never said that end users would be able to access it from the play store, it requires being integrated by OEMs.

I wasn't clear, what I meant is that after canonical's anoncement I heard rumors from random people talking about that. And that always bugged me cuz I couldn't figure out how would they pull that off. But what u said makes more sense.

Well, basically i do just need someone who Maintains a Thread with Me and My Team Mate here. I want to have someone who owns the Device to get advanced Reports and to have someone who Quotes Me on the Thread if Problems appear (Can be Device Specific).

Yes, I got a complete refund from o2 for my g5 after it's second repair (GPS u know..) and decided to go for the axon. I truely love this device!
So could the Patch be applied on the B04 Stock? Would be very nice, because we have a lack of custom Stock based Roms here

That was Luck I would love to have the Axon 7 too. That stereo Speakers and the Display... Mhhh....
But Yes, it should work on Stock. BUT YOu need to add Init.d Support if YOu want to use the given Scripts like Battery Calibration and Play Services battery drain Fix.
Another thing are the GApps. The LIGHT PATCH comes with Optimized GApps for 7.1. If You are on 7.1 YOu're good to go. If not, You should pre download a GApp Pack for Your Android Version to install it after the Patch. That should be all. And like always, do clean flashs! lol

I'm still playing around with some things. Ended up doing a complete clean flash of RR, Magisk 13, and this again this morning, so I haven't had too much time to just dive into everything just yet. Just tested sound over speakers though, and it sounds great. Still gotta see how battery fares.
If you opt to let the patch install Gapps, they're very minimal, and you'll end up installing most of them from the Play Store, but that gives you the option to keep whichever ones you want. There are also a ton of lib files, and some add-ons from Sony and HTC that are worth checking out. Will give a more detailed post after I've had more time to mess around.
I'm interested too.
A list with some information of the benefits would still be good.

I think the intention is for it to be a bit of a surprise for now. I'm still trying to figure it all out, but if you check the changelogs at the website, you can put a good bit of it together.

Glad to hear it runs! Well, there are hundreds of Features and goodies in this Baby. I'm working on Android since almost 7 Years and the Patch is the Product of enhancing custom ROMs to something more than that. Calling it a Mod is like calling a Operation on a Brain slaughtering lol
I will try to explain it a bit.
The Light Patch is the 3rd Version of My Patch System. The Multi Device Support is caused by excluding the Device specific Firmware from the customization which i usually would do with a ROM. The advantages of that are independent OS updates, Multi Device Support, Features which You can't get with AOSP, and it is better to develop than usual Mods or ROMs.
We have planned to create a own AOSP OS and some Apps in the Future which will include the advanced research behind the Patch and everything what i do. It is really hard for Me to describe all that. But i'm going to enhance My Project together with a new Partner and the Light Patch is the first Step on that Way. There will come for sure more Infos, Videos and all possible Things over the Time. And don't run away cause of my English! My Partner speaks a lot better English than Me, so the overall Quality will come over the Time. I'll let him do all the Social stuff here so i can focus on the development (finally). The Main Team is growing and our Maintainers will also get a place in our Org. We will soon have a own Domain with G Suite Service and everything looks bright for our Project.
I hope that wasn't to much bad English for One Post :laugh: Just take a look on My very long Changelog and try the Patch. You will not regret it, it is 100% stable if You follow the given Instructions

I decided to try it out of curiosity, pretty much because I flash a lot, and try to stay open to new things. I'm a tinkerer, and I guess that's just part of my fidgety nature. Lol. But, as there's no official maintainer or posts in the development section for our device yet, and English isn't the developers first language, it seems that either flashing or waiting for response from people that have are the best way to get information for now. But if you download the zip and browse through it, there are a lot of things there that should theoretically add to the user experience.

Must I stress this? I'm sure I am not the only one getting annoyed by the lack of Moto Mod support in most current Custom Roms.
(Pixel Experience and Lineage 15.1 implementing it the best when it comes to 8.1)
There is even an entire sub redit complaining about this...
I am no developer myself, but here it is laid out on how to make a ROM that supports most Moto Mods, this seemed a bit buried and hard to find, but seems extremely useful as if someone has already done the nitty gritty work:

And I don't know if this is possible but it would also be great to have something like a flashable zip or base that supported Moto Mods for treble or/GSI ROMS in the future.
If anyone can get a Pie rom working with MODS soon enough, you'll beat Motorola to it. Think about that... you could work for them, because sadly it's something they haven't accomplished yet lol.

Try looking, it has been explained before why we only have battery mod support. Besides, development is dead, there are no Devs now.

I looked and I found that it is possible to have more than the battery mod support, hence this post. The ROM I am on now, lineage 15.1 (Oreo 8.1 with November security patch)> works with my projector mode also.
Past custom Roms have also supported more than the battery mod.
I hope I don't have to explain the concept of looking to you, there are no Devs currently, development is not dead, they are waiting for/working on Pie. That you would know if you have been looking and reading the forums and posts by Devs.

For your information, one of the old Devs here said only battery mod for z2 play because the other mods caused too many problems on custom ROMs. Also, nobody is working on pie on xda for z2p. The Devs that where here all left, they are not waiting, they moved on.

Even tho I have proof of the projector mod working very stable on my phone on lineage 15.1 January security update???? And other mods in the link I supplied in the post??? Cool story...
The whole point of this post was to help devs like that accomplish it. I am guessing this is one reason why many give up...You have no idea how incorrect you are obviously, I have read 2 devs for these mod compatible ROMS state they were waiting for Pie. Because 8.1 is sufficiently accomplished now. Waiting= no current activity/posts/8.1 updates. I just technically had a dev here work on lineage 15.1 for me yesterday, compiling the new security update.
Want the link to this best ROM for the phone right now or can you LOOK for it by yourself? Thanks to me it's really not hard to find.

Fact: A Dev compiled a security update for lineage albus yesterday. Another made a microg variant a few weeks ago.
