While the CM13 included camera app is relatively fast and great for quick-snap photos, I did manage to make some impressive photos while playing around on EMUI camera in Pro mode (before I flashed the phone), looking suprisingly good for such a low tier camera.
Since there's no manual mode in CM13, which camera app would you recommend to purchase/download(if free)?
Also, is the HDR bug guaranteed to occur in every app?

As far as I'm aware Honor 5x nightlies don't include the Snap camera yet. It ships with the legacy Camera, which takes mediocre pictures and can't do HDR or Panoramas.
Google Camera is available for Panoramas, but the accelerometer/gyroscope is very jittery on the phone, so the stitching doesn't do a good job.
I don't think this issue is gonna be resolved until Camera2 API is ported into our CM nightly.

I do think the same, it's about software, not a specific camera app
I tried putting the ro.camera2.prtabilty.force_api=1 in the default.prop file by splitting boot.img and reflashing boot.IMG, putting manual focus line in build.prop and then flashing the ported emui 4.0 camera with twrp... Still badluck as it says Unfortunately, camera has stopped working
Just use Cm marsh(cm based costom ROM ) comes with snap camera

I always just use opencamera. it really good and you have so many settings. Give it a try one day

I've found that, no matter what camera app I install, I can't get the same picture quality I used to get on the stock ROM. Is there a reason for this? The drivers, maybe?

I guess is the camera processing is different on stock ROM from custom ROMs

It's a Google camera with working HDR+ for almost all nougat devices.
I've personally tested on NOS and Viper OS and let me know for others.

I am using google camera that i downloaded on Apk Miror. But it does not have HDR+, i thought that hdr on gg cam just supports google phones. With your gg cam you gave, i can use HDR+ now. It is incredible with me. How could u find it? Thanks. I will share it to Vietnamese users. I know they need it so much

I think that google camera 4.4 just supports android 7.1.x or above

On one hand it sounds promising, but on the other it still relies on a Snapdragon 820 or later.
so there is no way to install on V10
You can actually if you're on Android N, use Arnova's version. HDR doesn't seem to be in effect though.

Which version specifically are you using because he's had alot of versions since your post. Several camera's I've tried all I get is black screen in the viewfinder.
Please someone port gcam for nokia 7.1 MG _5.03.015 gets installed and doesn't crashes, videos are able to be recorded, but photo mode shows black screen. Probably not reading the exact camera id for photos.

Download the latest build of gcam for Nokia 6.1 plus android pie, works well most of the time.
I'm using the latest build from Arnova here (https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-arnova8G2/#apk411) and most features work including Night Sight. Not sure about EIS but takes better pictures than stock Nokia. Slower for sure due to HDR+, but can't complain about the quality.

Hi, no problem! I have "GCam_Pixel3Mod_1.3_build.6.1.021.apk" installed currently and have no issues with regular camera portrait or night sight. Have to disable motion picture or whatever it is called or it crashes per the instructions on the XDA forum threads for the Pixel3 mod.

I've been playing around with that one, but really don't think it's any better than the Nokia camera app; don't get me wrong, "Night Sight" is pretty cool, but the picture quality isn't better than the stock app...
Am I missing something?

I find the portrait mode has much better results and the plain camera mode has better light detection making slightly sharper photos, but the Nokia cam is faster to load, take photos, and store in the gallery. If I'm not using portrait mode I am honestly defaulting to the Nokia cam for speed. I guess depending on my subject I'm choosing the camera that seems to work best. I don't use the pro mode though as I prefer to point and click as a lot of stuff I want to take photos of are fleeting or non-stationary.

I have been using this verison ,
it either closes after taking the photo in normal photo mode, or does not save,
the portrait and Pro modes are working , as well as Night mode,

I didn't test much, but most of them are crashing in my device. (Nokia 7.1 3/32 Gb)
The one that is working for me is the latest from Arnova: MGC_6.1.021_BSG_Arnova_V1.0.030119.0705.apk
In order to get Night Sight working I had to disable "Sabre" in the settings.
Results are, in fact, very good. I wish that Google could make Google Cam official for everyone ?*♂

Trying either auxiliary camera option (wide or tele) crashes the app for me. And subsequently crashes upon restarting (clearing app data resets it / stops crashing) .
