Is LTE 4G available or not? - YotaPhone 3 Questions & Answers

I recently received a YotaPhone 3+ from eBay, it stated that it would work with the Mint Mobile 4G network, the only thing I can seem to connect to is GSM/EDGE. Any advice on changing the band or anything of the sort? Should I look into a whole root-n-rom process? Or am I just just stuck with basically 3G?

I have nothing changed for 4G.

You can try using LTE Only and 4G Only apps but they have mixed results. I didn't try using them on my Yota because the international version is acceptable. I don't know if Chinese version has LTE band in your area, but it could be the 2600 band (or something like that) is widely used but weak outside the city, so you may end up draining your battery more. Forcing the phone using LTE when reception is weak will consume way more battery. I used these apps back with Hinsense phone with EDP screen because the Hisense phones were miserable with LTE outside of China. Also you may need to root your device because the apps may not be able to access the settings. Example https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=www.extremedroid.com.a4gltetoolkit&hl=en&gl=US
In addition to that, you can download apps that do cell tower discovery and will tell you where in your area is the cell company's tower. That may help you to find out where you need to go. Same as above, the tower discovery apps may need access to root to be able to run.

GSM and DINC 4G LTE

Since I have now switched to a DNA for may daily use phone, I thought I would take my rooted and s-off DINC 4G LTE over to our local GSM carrier (Union Wireless) and see if I could use it on their GSM service as an emergency phone. Here in Wyoming we have decent Verizon service in the cities and towns and most places on the Interstates and spotty service on state highway route. So, when we go camping in the mountains, etc. one has to generally find a high place to get a Verizon signal. However the local company (Union) has signal most places, but they are GSM.
When I talked to the rep at Union she said to stop by one of their stores and try out a sim and see if it worked in my phone......So I did just that and it did indeed work. I did not try data, but it looked like data worked as well as my phone updated my Microsoft outlook while we were testing it.
I am running CM 10.2.1 on this DINC 4G LTE and it does look like it will work great as a GSM option. Whether I chose to use it here in Wyoming or need a GSM phone in a foreign country.
For a phone that receives such little love and was forgotten by HTC.....it really is a very solid unit.
i use mine already since more than a year in a non-CDMA country (over here in europe) ... only real "trouble" i had was that it doesn't get any stable HSPA+ connection, it always reverts to the (s)lower 3G mode ...
CM10.2 is quite a bit better regarding HSPA than stock ICS-based roms due to their updated ril-libs, but still not stable enough. still, i love the phone
I just came back from Hong Kong and my phone worked fine there with a SIM card. But the connection kept switching between "H+" and "3G". It was still faster than my hotel internet

[Q] Would you like a 3G only setting for the G3?

Would you use a 3G only option if it was available on the G3?
I spoke to a Verizon Regional Exec today about the G3 and other Verizon phones that no longer have the option to run on CDMA only. The rep has an iPhone and regularly sets it to 3G only, especially when he let's his kids use the phone. He could not give me a reason why the G3 and other phones no longer has the ability to go to 3G only. He said he would look into this and see if it could be delivered in a future update.
Honestly I rather not have data at all then be stuck on 3G, just my opinion
I would like that option. There are areas where I play Ingress, for example, where the 3g Verizon signal is strong and uncluttered so its a much better option than LTE, which is either weak and eats battery trying over and over to reconnect, or is good but WAY oversold so there is no way to get good speeds on my unlimited data plan, much of the time.
One of the tricks we used to use on the VGNexus phones was select 3g only and save much battery life. 3g can sometimes be faster than 4g and it saves power by not running the rg radio.

I can do this using com.lge.hiddenmenu. it has an intent that if launched will allow you to pick your desired frequency/bandmode. it includes lte only, cdma only, evdo only, cdma/evdo, and lte/cdmA/evdo as well as global.
i often have poor band 13 lte coverage and so it saves a lot of battery. sometimes it is nice to block 1x to improve speeds and force 3g if the signal is producing more speed then 1x. just my 2 cents,,,and if you get creative you can create a shell script to "su" then run the intent and then exit. place a shortcut on the homescreen and profit.
im reflashing my softbrick now or i would put the exact intent needed, maybe tomorrow if i remember but its network selection, network mode, something like that and way towards the bottom (last third) of the intents i viewed within hiddenmenu, apk
Please conform that the coma, option is available on works on the vs985
I've never seen 3g perform faster then 4g in my area

The GNex was one of the last phones to be affected by that. Since Qualcomm took over Android, their integrated LTE radios use no more power than 3G radios.

Completely agree, even a very weak LTE always works better for me, even over a full 3G signal at times.

Basically. I think a full 3G signal is a little faster a very weak LTE signal, but at this point anywhere there's full 3G there's LTE.
Just download a massive amount of data and the carriers will throttle you down to 3G or lower, with occasional 4G use. As for some people saying that 3G is never faster, it depends on the carrier. Verizon throttles all 3G usage in an effort to convince 3G users to upgrade to 4G.

[Q] [LG-D620R] GSM Phone Connected to CDMA Networks? (And other questions)

I've somewhat recently obtained the LG G2 Mini (D620R) due to my stupid self bricking my Samsung S3. In every single way it utterly destroys the S3, despite the S3's specs being slightly better. I've recently switched to T-Mobile, since I was under the impression that T-Mobile is a GSM carrier, and my phone is GSM as far as I know and Straighttalk was no longer a viable option.
I was told I would get spotty data coverage where I live, and that is completely understandable and I knew that going in. However, I have been getting little to no voice and text service where I live, and fair service in town. Even a free cell booster did not seem to help despite getting fair signal at the window unit. I did a bit of troubleshooting and for some reason, the phone is connected to T-Mobile (WCDMA). This makes no sense as A)It's a GSM phone (afaik). B) T-Mobile is a GSM carrier. The only other options when scanning the networks in the area are AT&T (WCDMA) and AT&T (GSM). In town, there is a T-Mobile (GSM) network, but selecting it results in EDGE instead of 3G/H. The cell booster did work some at first, but it seems to have stopped helping at all. Since it is not a T-Mobile phone I can't use Wi-Fi calling/texting. Is there something I'm missing? Did I find wrong information/get lied to about T-Mobile? Did I get scammed on the phone? I'm hoping I can get some help or figure this out, I can't really afford another phone and getting a phone through T-Mobile would push my bill up way too high (and honestly, I'm considering dropping to the non-unlimited plan because of how insanely expensive it is).
A less important question, how do I bypass the tethering restrictions? Do I need to root the phone or is there a simpler method? Last time I rooted a phone...it resulted in me having to buy this one in the first place...
Also, is the S3 really that badly crippled by Touchwiz a weaker phone can utterly humiliate it?
Ok, first of all google a bit about mobile network standards, there's everything explained. I'll just introduce you with a few things:
1. WCDMA is not equal to CDMA, it actually represents 3G standard for regular (not CDMA) phones.
2. GSM equals 2G standard, and it gives EDGE data communication, while WCDMA equals 3G/3G+ standard and it gives HSPA/HSPA+ data communication.
As I said just google it, at your location you probably have stronger 2G than 3G signal, and when you go to some bigger town or city you get 3G better.
For start read the information given at this link.
Problem is, I get absolutely no EDGE at all where I live, only 3G/H and I consistently lose all service and cannot make calls. I am well within the coverage area for at least voice. I also have been having more and more troubles with data even in town. It's progressively gotten to the point where I have to constantly toggle data just to get some mobile data for a few minutes or so.
Try to select 2g only network and you should get EDGE.
If I select 2G Only, I get no service at all, it doesn't even attempt to search for a signal where I live (Red 'X' instead of spinny icon). However in town if I do this, I do immediately get switched to EDGE/2G and it's signal is slightly better.
Than it means you don't have network coverage at your place, that's all.
My booster however shows it gets 3 bars, and I was made aware at the time I would get at the very least get voice service. I did some checking and I'm about 5 miles from the nearest cell tower. My only other option at this point is AT&T, but I have a general distaste for them, can't afford a phone if they don't have a BYOP program, and they do shady things to rooted phones from what I've heard.
I do expect poor or no data service where I live, I can make do with that. What I don't expect is no voice service at all, sometimes even to the point of no E911 either.

4 LTE in u.s.?

I believe this phone is capable of using LTE in the US. It has all the right frequencies so I would believe the hardware should be there. I've tried several different APN settings and called customer service to confirm my IMEI with AT&T customer service but I cannot get LTE speeds. Anyone else in the u.s. experiencing the same problems?
barely works in Europe, from the product page i bought it from on Aliexpress they said the 4g wouldn't work in the States .
here majority of the time it drops to 3g and when it does the internet doesn't work at all.
lost count how many times I've had to search again for my network just to refresh the signal.
the antenna in this phone was poorly placed. putting sim in slot 1/2 doesn't matter.
I've gone back to my nexus 5 with zero problems on 4g.
thats really disheartening. I knew there would be a catch to this phone somewhere. And it would appear that the phone does not support 4G LTE bands in the US. .
3.5G umtcs however it does, which is close to 4G speeds. But I do not know how many towers in the US run those frequencies, I will post my findings if I can get HSPA+ or above on a regular basis.
I have noticed my signal fluctuate a lot, Sad that the most basic feature is the most troublesome, this phone comes so close. I wonder if this is something development can resolve or if its just a poor radio.
It will but with network B bands. I think in July.
Check their blog
Really? A coming update in July? I will look on their blog
I live in the UK, but just holidayed in the US this summer...My 9000 wouldn't work for calls, although I read they're bringing out a US version soon. Used it for satnav in 3 states though with no problems.

Sprint/T-Mobile LgV60

Is anyone else whos on sprint/TMobile having issues where the phone cant decide wether to connect to a sprint or TMobile tower? When im at my home i have a very weak TMobile 600mhz signal and a strong sprint band 41 signal due to the magic box. I also can pick up the band 25 signal the box uses and my phone refuses to just use the stronger faster sprint signal. It absolutely insists on using the TMobile signal. Is anyone having similar issues? Even on wifi its causing network interruptions so i have to reload a page several times to make it use the wifi.

Mine jumps a lot but never connects to the magic box. I don't think it's enabled for B41? I have a Pixel 3XL that I activate (and deactivate my V60) when I'm at my camper which is where my MB lives.

Mine works with Band 41. Its a big one in the nearby city. It works with all sprint and TMobile bands. Its just prioritizing TMobile bands over sprint ones regardless of signal quality

I have no idea of this is related but.. I'm on T-Mobile, with T-Mobile home internet as well, and for the last several days my phone is having issues connecting and the home WiFi is doing the same thing. I'm in a rural area so my signal is weak, but it's been fluctuating WILDLY since the merger and sometimes it does seem like my phone is struggling trying to decide what to connect to. There's definitely something going on with the network at least in my area for the last 2 weeks for sure

Sounds like this will be happening until the transition is done/5G is more widespread. These are TMobile models. When mine was first turned on at the store it had the T-Mobile splash screen. The ability to access sprint towers was added via software update post merger. I figure once the 600mhz band is fully rolled out the issue will go away as a result of the signal being strong enough.
