Custom ring tone on G Power (2020) - Moto G Power Questions & Answers

How do I get a custom ring tone to work? Moto G Power (2020) stock Motorola firmware. Google Fi.
I have downloaded one in mp3 format, put it into the ringtones folder. It plays fine as an mp3 on the phone (audio player).
I go into phone -> settings -> "sounds and vibration" -> "advanced" -> "phone ringtone" and select the mp3.
But whenever the phone rings, it just emits a chime, 1 second delay, chime, 1 second delay sound.

Phone was behaving very oddly. Ring tone was correct when tested in system file picker but as soon as phone rang, it was incorrect and was then incorrect in system file picker. I reset media storage "app". Rebooted to rebuild db. Then readded the ringtone.
I also installed a custom file picker (amaze) and must have initially selected it as "open always" for ringtone. Bad idea as only the default system selector knows about the pre-defined ringtones, so you lose access to these if you switch to a non default

Custom Ringtone?

Hi, I am new to this and I got my Telus HTC Hero on April 6th, 2010 and I rooted and I am using MoDaCo Custom Rom 3.2 Core (this is from my phone info so I know it worked) and I was trying to make a song in .mp3 format into a ringtone and it wont do it. I asked my friend using a Dream unrooted and he said all you have to do is press on hold on the song til a menu pops up and select set as ringtone. This doesnt work so I was wondering if there is another way or if it is possible at all.
Thanks for any assistance.
Download an app called Tone Picker.
best app for making custom ringtones has gotta be ringdroid from the market. its groovy and free. u can cut any audio file u have that plays on ur phone. or vreate ur own ringtone (record one)
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Thanks guys for the help, but I am still curious to why I am unable to do it as am option without any apps.
custom ringtone and alarm
Sure you can.
* Connect the phone to your computer via the USB cable
* Open the Notifications screen on your phone (pull down a finger from the top of the screen to the bottom) and select the USB Storage notification
* Choose “Mount”
* Browse to the SD Card on your PC
* Look for a folder called media, if it’s not there, create it by right clicking and choosing New Folder, then rename the folder to be media
* Inside the media folder, you need a folder called audio, again, if it’s not there create it as above
* Inside the audio folder, you can create a subfolder for the sound category you want to change-
o ringtones – for sound files you want to use as ringtones
o alarms – for sound files you want to use for any alarms
o notifications – for incoming notifications such as SMS alerts, emails, etc
* Copy the sound or music file which you’d like to use as your ringtone in to the relevant folder
* You should now see your sound or music file listed in the menu for selection in the relevant sound settings menu (to access the ringtone/notification settings, press the hard Menu key from one of your home screens, then press Settings then Sounds and Display)

[Q] nonsensikal v10.1 sound mystery

Been running 10.1 for about a week now and am loving it. Unfortunately, my first beef with this ROM just popped up and I'm hoping someone out there can help. When selecting a tone for a new alarm (or just setting a ring tone for that matter), I'm prompted to select from the stock system sounds. I know when I first flashed to this ROM I could select to use a set of sounds as my default and am fairly certain I chose the extended bank of sounds. Why limit yourself, right? At any rate, I went to manage applications and can't reset defaults because the button is greyed out and unselectable. The non-standard set of sounds is still in there as evidence of both my alarms going off with the sound I had been looking for and, in addition, I can still see all this "missing" tones when I open up Astro File Manager and go to /mnt/sdcard/system/media/audio. At this point, there are folders for alarms, notifications, ringtones & ui, ALL of which contain sound files...the ones I'm in search of. How can I reset this? Did a nandroid backup when sounds were still accessible and when I reflashed to the backup I was still missing the option to select these sounds. What gives? Help!!

Tasker app to remove usb plug sounds, and help with Bluetooth notifications

If you are like me and have become annoyed with few settings on the Atrix that were not on your last phone, then you might be able to benefit from some simple settings in tasker. Tasker is a Paid app that lets you change just about anything you don't like with your phone.
I have set up a few tasks to run on my phone that have helped me customize it in ways Motorola didn't allow. There are probably other ways to get the same result but the phone is new and i have not been able to find them. this could be a good thread to add any other options if you have them.
The atrix uses the default notification for plugging in the usb and also for mounting the sd card. here is how i use tasker to remove that.
Task to stop sounds while plugging in
1.new profile (name if desired)
2. state > USB Plugged
3. new task (*should name this one for use with the next one)
4. choose audio >silent mode
5. set mode to on for no sound (or vibrate to vibrate)
*note this puts the phone into vibrate mode or silent mode
6. click the plus to add more to the task
7. choose takser > wait choose time in seconds (i went with 5 seconds)
8 add another using the plus
9. choose audio >silent mode
10. set it to off
What this does-
when you plug the usb in it will change to silent or vibrate mode wait 5 seconds and go back to sound on
(if you desire it to stay in silent mode you will have to adjust settings)
*note you will hear about a half of a second of the notification until tasker kills it. (still better than before)
now if you want to mount the card to the computer it makes another sound
Task the mount sound to silent
1. new profile (name if desired)
2. select event >hardware
3. choose card mounted
4. choose the task you set up from the previous task
Task the unmount sound to silent
1. new task (name)
2. select event > hardware
3. choose card unmounted
4. choose the task you set up in the first task
a couple other things didn't work for me with bluetooth so i did some work arounds
I use the blueant Bluetooth and it reads the sms message to the headset. while a notification is sounding the bt audio is silenced for some reason so i would only catch the end of the message because the notification is going off
you can either set up vibrate mode while connected to bluetooth or make a task to do that only when an sms is received.
Set tasker to vibrate for sms so app can read the message.
1. new profile (name)
2. event > phone >Received text
3. click new task
4. start with audio >silent mode
5. set to vibrate
6. click plus to add
7. choose tasker > wait. i set to 30 seconds to allow the message to be read
8. click the plus to add more
9. audio > silent mode> set to off
10. go back and click on the profile and choose add
11. choose state >bt connected
11A if you want you can choose the BT device you use in this setting as long as it has been paired
* the end result leaves the phone with settings at normal sound
There is also a way to choose a notification to be played when you receive a text (since this does not happen) You can do this if you use BT but don't have an app for it that reads the text
I choose to make it play the audio file for ALL notifications to alert me through BT.
i will show both as they are similar except in one step
Task a media to be played to bluetooth
1. choose new profile (name)
2 a (for ALL notifications) choose >event UI > notification ((this will require you set permission in the settings for tasker (it will show you the option))
2b (for only text message) choose phone > received text
*only choose a OR b
3.choose new task media > Music play
4. search with the magnifying glass to find the file you want to play
5. now go back to the profile and click add
6. State > blutooth connected. (you can choose the BT device of your choice or leave it blank)
what it does-
option A plays the media file to BT when connected for ALL notifications to the phone
option B plays the media file to BT when connected and a TEXT message is recieved
happy tasking
I cant get the first profile to work properly. Every time i plug in I still hear the full sound. But the other two profiles for mount/unmount works, so at least that's good news.
Glad it worked. Not sure why the first profile isn't working. Delete it and start over. Maybe got something wrong? i use vibrate instead of off. maybe try that and see if it doesn it
double post
When I select "Card Mounted" my tasker force closes
I don't have an Atrix but Google led me to this thread and I finally found my answer to disabling the USB debugging notification sound. Thanks.
Glad its working, ive also been able to shut off sound on shutdown, then when the phone reboots, it waits 15 seconds and comes back on
no more annoying sounds

MINICM9 change ringtone

Its a stupid question! But, how I can change the ringtone in MINICM9?
1. settings
2. sound
3. phone ringtone
Sorry! Double Post.
Ans how can I use my own MP3's?
download a ringtonepicker from the market, standard android doesn't let you choose own mp3's, but with a third-party ringtonepicker it will work.
go to music and long press song or mp3 and set as ringtone. depends on how you access those mp but usually does the trick
Create the folder
sdcard/ringtones for your call ring tones,
sdcard/notifications for your message notifications,
sdcard/alarms for the alarm tones.
Any mp3 you put in these folders will show up in the list for selecting the tones
Ok thanks!

8.1 - notification sounds are not playing...

I have made sure of...
1) Volume is on for the ringer
2) Do not disturb is not enable
3) I can hear the audio from apps - youtube videos, podcasts, music etc
This only started happening with the latest update. After a certain point during up time, I no longer will hear any notification sounds - phone calls, text messages, emails to my inbox, keep alerts, assistant activating
A reboot fixes this.
Anyone else experiencing this?
I've just been around a similar frustrating loop. I'm not a developer and I don't have GAPPS installed so try this and if it doesn't work somebody else more expert may eventually help. Use the settings search box it helps to find your way around. First make sure you have 'Do not Disturb' options turned off (gray). Sound options on my Samsung Lineage17 seem to be in 2 places. The place you find from Settings\Sound shows the volume sliders which should be up. Tap them and check the sound is there. In sound settings you can mute any of these and the green sound bar will show gray. I don't link the ring and notification volumes (gray, off).
Now type 'default notification sound' in the search box and tap the result Default notification sound/sound. Very strangely this puts up the same sound settings as before but with more options to change sound files. I've not yet discovered how to get to this extended screen from Settings. With no GAPPS the default lineageOS sounds are in the OS somewhere I haven't found yet. Installing GAPPS puts Google sound files in the usual root folder.
Before I tried changing from the LineageOS default sound to point my file browser to my custom folder I had no SMS default sound. I had to wipe the System and Dalvick caches then reboot. Since you said you have sounds until some time later, I'm wondering if you have delayed 'Do Not disturb' options set? When you first boot and sound works, check the volume sliders all show green (unmuted). Then when your sounds stop, go back and see if the volume sliders now show gray (muted)? In the past I've found some 3rd party Apps using sounds can interfere with normal default operation and you have to go through the pain of finding the culprit. Good luck.
