Hello,
I have an old Redmi Note 4X stuck on "This device is locked" screen. This is a result of my carelessness and lack of knowledge about Xiaomi security measures.
To sum up:
Bootloader is locked
Stock rom is probably some kind of Chinese Global version since I bough it from HK China
Don’t know the exact Mi account associated with this device
Don’t know and lost access to email used for this Mi account
The phone number associated with this Mi account is now associated to a new account, so this one has no phone attached at all
Result -> I can’t unlock the phone using account.xiomia.com website.
Things I have tried:
Contacted both [email protected] and [email protected]. Got a usless copy paste response which shows they haven’t read my email at all. Than silence.
I tried to get into edl with no success. Fastboot oem edl doesn’t work. Fastboot_edl script hack doesn’t work. I can access the recovery menu and when I press download button phone just boots normally. I haven’t tried shorting EDL Pins as I got annoyed at this point and can’t be bothered to open the phone just to see it also doesn’t work.
I tried unlocking the bootloader by downloading Mi Unlock tool and logging with another xiaomi account. Update: software runs but I get "couldn't unlock" result. Probably no permissions to do this.
Doesn’t help that the phone is really old and a lot of roms/methods lead to dead links. I found a local online services which promises remote unlock in those cases just by providing the 10 digit service code and no “stolen status”. Except they charge about 40$ for this and this is way more than I value this old phone.
Can anyone help?
Small update:
The device I bought was Redmi 4x. Both devices look the same, hence my mistake. Can this thread be moved to a proper forum?
Shorting EDL pins doesn't work. I am out of options and wasted too much time on this. Phone goes to the garbage bin.

A friend of mine (not very technical) asked me for help - he has a FRP locked Note 5 (M1803e7sg) - 'this device is locked' 'This device is associated with existing xiaomi account' message constantly is on screen, so we cannot do much more than emergency call or connect with Wi-Fi.
Apparently, his son, who used the phone do not remember the email he registered an account (or do not want to remember it), so we assume there is no way to get it back, nor unlock miui.
This phone is legit, this friend of my has proof of purchase. He even send the phone to official Xiaomi warranty service prior to giving me, but they told him they cannot do anything. Like at all.
I tried multiple ways from youtube manuals, including wiping data or the one with Talkback. But none works in my case and a phone is still locked.
I'm aware that neither Miui soft won't work on this device. But could you guys advise if there is a way to get twrp in this state, erase, put new software (cyanogen mod or what not) and guide me the easiest way to do that?
Twrp is not possible without unlocking bootloader.
CyanogenMod no longer exist.
If you can provide the version of miui then maybe we can help.
Can you go to setting enabled dev mode and on oem unlocking? If yes, maybe you can watch youtube.
Of course it is MIUI 10.

Yes it can. Try search youtube. "Frp miui 10 fix" something like that.
Hey, so I was contacting xiaomi support. They failed to help me because I dont have Mi account ID nor email address bound to this phone?
Are they not able to say which ID I was using on this particular phone? Cause I am not - I erased it. I also lost emial bound to this account.
I have my phone case with all the numbers, original proof of purchase from local retailer. The phone is 100% legit.
I just lost mi account ID, why is it so much of a problem right now? It's only an aco**** that I was not using to anything.
This is only hardware, right? Why software limits how the hardware is running? You can always erase all the software that is there, including bootloader and load other, unlocked software. Am I wrong?
EDIT: no, I'm not wrong. I haven't found a solution so far, but fortunately my social engineering helped and I managed to restore mi account and pass.
It's a shame that Xiaomi do not have a better way to go in such cases.
Apparently I have bought Redmi 5 plus (MPEG7) which was locked with Mi Account or what. The phone works normally, but I cannot add my Xiaomi Account because it gives me some error I don´t remember now.
Tried to update the firmware manually, didn´t help. So I decided to do factory reset, and then, soon after the set up screen I connecet to wifi, my Xiaomi got locked. It says I need to sign in on account which was previously been there.
The guy who sold me this phone, aware me of this, I should not do factory reset because this will happen, but I thought If there is no Mi Account on this phone I am good to go.
Luckily I found local repair shop who helped me to revive this phone by bypassing Mi Account somehow. I can use it with my Gmail account and I still can´t add my Xiaomi Mi Account.
So here goes my question now, how much I can do about that here. Unlocking bootloader and installing custom recovery would help me here. But the thing is I can´t enter my Mi Account on my phone, so that means no unlocking bootloader for me, at least nothing officially.
So my questions goes. Is there any way to unlock bootloader without having MI Account on the phone?
And before I forgot, if I don´t unlock the bootloader, and the phone stay in the same condition, will my phone lock itself again after I update it to MIUI 11, once when the update is available?
For now it is on the latest MIUI available, 10.2 Stable, OEGMIXM
Thanks in advance

Hello!
I have a problem similar to this. And I've been looking for some answers on that. With the current state of the device, I have how to unlock the bootloader, and then install a custom recovery and rom? So far I have not found any answer that is favorable to me. Other than paying for the service.

As far I have did some further research, unfortunately for us there is no solution to this. Basically the phone is connected with the Mi Cloud servers. As there is no alternative to unlock the bootloader, other than the official way, if in any case we got to sign in our account on the phone, the phone will lock itself eventually.
The only solution is the person who owned the phone have to remove the phone from the Mi Cloud service.
I hope at least we will get MIUI 11 and the update will not lock our device again.
If you want to know more about this, I have created a thread on Mi Community forum, so you can check there, one guy tried to help me about this problem, but no success

Hello!
I am also getting help to solve the problem. But, it has been 25 days that after sending some photos of the device screens nothing happened regarding the unlock. That is, it remains blocked. I tried help from S-Unlock but showed no interest in solving the problem. I need to find another company or someone to unlock the device next to the server. Feel free to help me if you want.
Dear community,
you are my last resort to help me in this situation...
I have Redmi 3 which I last used 2 years ago. In that time It was associated with my Mi account. Today this account doesn't exist anymore - don't ask me why, I don't know.
I factory resetted it. Now, when it starts, it asks me for Mi credentials and doesn't let me access other phone options (settings, apps, etc.) I enter my old credentials, but of course it doesn't recognize them (account does not exist / username-password is invalid). This leaves me with unusable phone.
I tried many things:
- wrote to Xiaomi support, but they refuse to help me. They redirect me to local support or to my seller (which doesn't exist anymore).
- I flashed with brand new clean MIUI rom. I can use phone normally until I put it online. It instantly locks the phone and asks for Mi credentials.
- tried installing other OS (such as Lineage), but can't do that, because I need TWRP. To install TWRP, I need to unlock bootloader. Unfortunately I didn't unlock bootloader when I could do (2 years ago). If I try to unlock it now, my username doesn't get recognized.
-- I tried creating new Mi account to associate to my Redmi 3. Association requires internet connection which instantly locks the phone.
-- I also tried installing TWRP as it shown in this youtube video: watch?v=quNAkht1Lwc [can't publish link, I'm new user] Procedure puts my phone in looped boot process.
- I tried flashing this custom Xiaomi EU ROM but can't even flash it (instructions are at xiaomifirmware site guides-and-tips/twrp-custom-rom-locked-bootloader-redmi-3s/ [can't publish link - I'm new user])
I probably tried some other options, but can't remember them now and I'm literally exhausted!
So, in brief:
- my phone has locked bootloader
- Mi account associated with phone doesn't exist
What else can I try? Let me know if you need additional info.
Sorry for the late reply.
Have you tried to boot into fastboot mode and
- fastboot oem unlock, to unlock bootloader?
If you can unlock bootloader, try flashing a recovery. That will give you more space of maneuver.
Hello,
Suddenly, just 1 month after the end of warranty my Xiaomi Mi Play stopped working showing "The system has been destoryed" message on recovery. I have read some articles and I have found that this could be fixed by flashing the ROM, but my problem is that bootloader is locked and I kept in this way for security purposes.
I know I can use the target app (https://c.mi.com/thread-2262302-1-0.html) to unlock it, but it also need some steps at android level (per attached image), which I don't have access anymore.
So my question is: add my account for unlock the unlocking permission is something which is at phone or at account level?
I mean, if it's something at the phone level there is no way to fix, but if it's at account level, I may fix the issue by using another Xiaomi device.
Can someone please clarify to me, or may I have any hints please?
Regards,

Mhhh.... it seems something related on phone:

So, probably phone is bricked and there is no way to recover except than support center.
Hello,
I ran into the same issue a couple of months ago. I was EU rom using mi flash and accidentally selected the 'clean and lock' option. There are a few ways you could try to fix your phone:
1. If you have a mi account that is registered to the phone, you could login to mi unlock using that account and try unlocking the bootloader and then flash using mi flash.
2. If you don't have a registered mi account then your options are pretty limited. You could try a go to a service center but like me there might not a one in your region. The only other option edl test point. There are many people, mostly russian or indian, who have an authorized mi account and are selling their services. A quick youtube search and you'll find many options. They remotely connect to your computer and use their authorized account to unlock your bootloader and flash the factory rom. They usually charge anything from 25 to 30 usd.
There is a way you could apply for authorization from mi but judging from the many forums it is vary rare to get a reply let alone get authorized.
Unfortunately there is no other way to Unbrick your device until now.

Hello,
Thank you for your reply.
My Mi account was registered on the phone, but once I login to "mi unlock" and try to unlock, I got the error attached.
I am suspecting some operations on the phone were required in advance.
I mean, I have never applied for my Mi account to being able to unlock or something, is there a specific page where to do now (e.g. on a differenr Xiaomi phone, online, etc.)?

Hello,
I have checked on other forums but it doesn't seem that Mi Play has an edl test point.
Or I couldn't find the correct information...
Hello Everyone,
I bough this Redmi Note 10 with screen broken, so I replaced the screen for an OLED new one, I wiped out the data and now I`m getting this Mi Account Lock screen.
The guy who sold the phone to me has deleted this account a long time ago, so I don`t have more access to this. I tried out a lot of methods to bypass and/or remove this lock screen but none of them worked.
So I`m thinking the best solution for this is to Unlock the bootloader and flash a Custom ROM like Pixel Experience for example.
What do you think about it ? Is it possible to unlock it using EDL mode or something like that ?
I think the best course of action for you will be to unlock the bootloader
Ok, So I'm gonna try it. Do you have any idea of how to do it within the EDL mode in this phone ?
Cause I've tried to search for it, and I found it, but only for other xiaomi phones.
There is only one way to unlock bootlader for all Xiaomi phones and it requires MI Unlock software (there is an unofficial alternative for Linux but it requires a bit more of work).
As far as I know to unlock bootloader the phone needs to be previuosly associated to your Mi account, so I'm not sure how you are going to do that.

I'm a Linux user so I think I can go ahead with this tool. What tool is this ?
It's just an unofficial version that runs on Linux, you still need the phone to be associated to a Mi account.
This is the one I used

That protection is there for a reason, even if you claim you're the legit owner.
No, you can't unlock if you can't boot to the system.
Best and legit way is to reset the password first in the Mi Account from i.mi.com, use any email/phone number that was used to register the account. Then remove the device from that account. Connect the device to wifi and use the new password to unlock the phone.
I don't think even local Xiaomi service center would agree to reset the phone unless you bring the legit invoice from the first purchase.
I agree with x3r0.13urn. Just in other words: If the previous owner doesn't give you access to unlock the bootloader, you can only use the phone for spare parts (Mi bill or proof of purchase with IMEI marked).

If what the guy said is true, should not the phone be automatically removed from that account?
I don't really know since I never tried.
I don't think so. Deleting the entire account is not that easy, if he has a registered device, it's not even possible.
He does not remember his login details or is no longer willing to do anything about it.
Hi,
Here is a great way to do it. Worked very well for me!
