Can you change the phone to black out the screen to save battery, but not lock for a certain time? For instance, I want the screen to black out after 30 seconds, but not to lock for 5 minutes. Is that possible?
I know you can do that with the passcode lock. It was quite a scandal recently.
I don't think you can disable the lock screen once the screen has timed out, at least not in stock settings. Search the market I would think there's an app for that.

Seems like the other LTE SGS3 variants have the ability to have the normal lock screen and a pattern or other security lock screen enabled at the same time. On the i9300, if you enable pattern lock screen, the normal lock screen goes away completely. Meaning that when you lock your phone via the power button or have it timeout and you turn in back on before your pattern timeout is reached, there is no lock screen. I know I can select lock instantly with power key but I'd rather have the pattern kick in after about 5 minutes and have the normal lockscreen active before the 5 minutes.
This is native behavior on the AT&T LTE SGS3 but not on the i9300. Any way to get this working in the i9300?
I'm looking for this option also. My old Incredible took me to the swipe lock screen when I hit power to turn off the screen. But I had it set to require a swipe unlock after 10 minutes. Tried playing with the (Verizon) SGS3 settings and no go. They both turn on at the same time - only after my 10 minutes setting elapses. Other than that, the phone wakes (with the power OR home) to apps on the screen waiting to be accidentally launched.
I have to use an 8 digit alphanumeric passcode due to my company's security requirements. This unlocking is a pain. However, locking the phone (to prevent butt dialing, etc) is nice to have.
On the Motorola DROID you could lock the phone with the power button, but wouldn't be prompted for the PIN unless you had the screen off for over 29 minutes (or whatever time up to 29 minutes that you'd set). If you woke the phone before 29 minutes, you wouldn't get the PIN prompt... You would only swipe to wake. This is what I want on the Note 2 but can't find a way to do it.
In other words, if I wake the phone within 29 minutes, I want the phone to lock, but I only want to swipe to unlock. I don't want the Pin prompt within 29 mins.
Doesn't seem like this combo is possible on the Note 2. I seem to be able to lock with the Pin instantly or no lock at all until you hit the set time threshold with the screen off.
Any ideas?

I have mine set up similar to how you describe, but without the swipe to unlock in the 29 minute window (not sure that is possible)...go Settings > Lockscreen. Choose Screen Lock with PIN and make sure the Lock Automatically with power key is unchecked. Then go into Lock Automatically and choose 30 min. Now you should be able to turn the screen off with the power button and wake it up anytime within 30 min without the PIN. Only caveat is that for some reason missed calls lock the screen regardless of how long it has been, but that is a small issue.
I don't think there's a way to 'layer' the lock screens with an admin exchange account forcing a PIN...would be nice though. I didn't realize the 'missed call bug'...interesting and probably explains why my phone occasionally locks within the 30 minute timeout.
I've have the S2, the Note 2, the Note 10.1 2014, AT&T Note 3, Sprint Note 3, and I can't seem to do this with any device except the AT&T note 3. I tried to repeat it with my wife's Sprint Note 3 and I can not do it.
Basically under Device>Lock Screen, I can choose Swipe, Signature, Pattern, PIN, Password, None. If I choose Pattern, PIN, or Password, and set Secured lock time to say 30 minutes. Now if I press the power button to turn off the display, I can turn the display back on with the power or home button and as long as it is done within 30 minutes, I will not be greeted with a Pattern, PIN, or Password. BUT I am not greeted with an unlock screen either! I am greeted with a slide to unlock! This is very useful since I don't have to worry about accidentally use of the touch screen and the phone will only be Password, Pin, or Pattern lock only after 30 minutes of inactivity.
If I try this with any other Android device, I am greeted with a totally unlock screen. Which mean apps can be accidentally launch while in my pant pocket. I thought it was really weird but smart to implement it this way on the AT&T note 3. You have the benefit of a secured lock screen, but only after the set time, and you still maintain the easy to use slide to unlock option that prevents accidental touch screen use.
I have a new F1 which has been set up with PIN, Face and Fingerprint unlocking. Screen timeout is set to the default of 1 minute, and all other screen lock options are set to default. The problem is that the phone does not always lock when the screen is off. Sometimes the phone will be unused for 30 minutes or more but the screen lock will not have activated.
It's running Android v8, with a software update downloaded yesterday (12/8/19).
Has anyone else had issues with the screen lock not activating?
