The device is a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (codename: mido)(4/64 GB variant)
So I had this problem yesterday where I was stuck in a bootloop and was unable to get into recovery, so I asked for help in a few subs and XDA, and some good people suggested various suggestions. What worked for me was going back to stock by flashing a stock fastboot ROM via MiFlash Tool.
After getting back to stock, I tried installing TWRP recovery again and everything went smooth, except the fact that it did not get installed at all and I am still on the default Mi-recovery. I have tried numerous versions of the TWRP image, double checked whether USB debugging is switched on or not, but I still can't seem to install TWRP.
Here's a video of the entire process I followed to install TWRP and the issue I am facing:
Apologies for the long video. It is difficult to hold a film with one hand while trying to do stuff on the PC with the other.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

First, I noticed that your TWRP version is old. You said you have tried different versions, but are you sure you tried the latest one? You can download it from here: Download TWRP for mido
Alternatively, you can try with OrangeFox recovery, which is well-recognized as well and personally I use this one: Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (mido) build releases | OrangeFox Recovery Downloads
Anyway, after the command...
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
...try this one:
fastboot boot recovery.img
If doesn't work try...
fastboot reboot
..and right after you push Enter button, hold Power and Volume+ buttons.
When you enter the TWRP/OrangeFox finally, you should wipe stock system and format data partition, then flash your custom rom.

Hi guys, need a bit of help. I followed the following guide and seems like a new recovery has been installed on my note 2 but no root or twrp. Any ideas ?
http://xiaomitips.com/guide/how-to-root-and-unroot-redmi-note-2/
Phone is fine but i do need to root and have twrp installed on it. Alternatively, do you have a link where I can achieve this easily as I want to put a a new rom on my phone. Sorry for the amateurish questions, its been a while since i have installed custom roms
Many thanks
This guide is old.
When I received my RN2 I installed TWRP from the Updated app, but now this is not possible anymore.
You have to flash TWRP image via fastboot.
Look at Fastboot Install Method here: https://twrp.me/devices/xiaomiredminote2.html
The image could be downloaded from: https://dl.twrp.me/hermes/twrp-3.0.2-0-hermes.img
Remember to keep vol+ pressed when you'll restart using fastboot reboot until it enter TWRP to prevent original recovery from restoring.
Once you are done, you'll be able to flash SuperSU.
Ok, ill try that. Thing is that I have lost fastboot, when i do power + volume up, i get to the TWRP 2.8.7 screen. Is this a problem ?

power + volume up is to enter recovery
To enter fastboot use power + volume down.
EDIT:
if with power + volume up you are entering TWRP, there is not need to do other than install supersu (unless you want to update TWRP).
Many thanks. Got this sorted. Running cm at the mo, cool. What is the best rom in ur opinion by the way? Any oxygen based roms?
I don't know the current status of CM on RN2, but generally speaking, IMHO ported ROM are not better then official ROM because there is always something not working.
Unfortunately there are no sources for RN2.
First of all, Thank you for read this post.
Second, Please watch my video on the link below:
To be honest, I have change a few handset before but never seen problem like this before.
So, I'm actually have difficulty to boot into recovery again everytime I like to reboot recovery from TWRP itself.
Not just reboot recovery, but also bootloader. So, the one that normal only reboot system option. Even when I try to clicked the reboot recovery or bootloader, it straight goes to system when it start to booting.
I also already try to install the default recovery (the one that only show phone and USB cable) from my phone in order to erase the previous recovery.img, and after that reinstall the TWRP recovery mode. But the problem is never dismiss. Its back, I still cannot access the recovery mode from the TWRP itself.
So, what should I do if I want my TWRP normal again? The only installation method that I still haven't to try yet is fastboot method from PC because I'm using macintosh and didn't have windows PC at my home.
So, if there anyone here know what should I do to fix it, please let me know. If u can't download the video, please also have a look to this picture...maybe it will help you to understand what I mean

Maybe. This problem with TWRP it's common in 3 latest dev roms in redmi 3 and redmi note 3.

Have a nice weekend
There were a series of events and mistakes that I made and now I have a PocoBrick:
I was going to move from the unofficial LOS to the official version that just rolled out. So I downloaded Lineage file, backed up my phone like a goodie two shoes, wiped and attempted to install.
Then the TWRP gave me an "error7".
Ok, I thought, lets go back and see what went wrong. I attempted a reboot but the phone goes straight to FASTBOOT, still goes to TWRP when pressing Volume up+pwr.
Did a restore and still - straight to FASTBOOT.
I messed with it for a while and then made a grave mistake.. I found a website claiming to teach how to install the official TWRP on pocof1 and I downloaded the Img file and attempted to flash it through TWRP - and now the phone goes right into FASTBOOT without being able to go to TWRP by pressing the Vol. and pwr.
Only Then I noticed that the name of the linked file was "twrp-3.2.3.0.-dipper.img".
Now the phone is in FASTBOOT, I adb doesn't work, when I try to "fastboot flash" I get an "unknown partition" response.
fml.
use MiTool to flash full factory firmware
Did you manage to bring your phone back to life with MiFlash?
mi flash and select clean all
If MiFlash Does not work to you
try search about Pocophone EDL & Testpoint
It works! It works! It works!
Thank you!

I'll add, even if you have already solved your problem, that there are fastboot roms here on XDA (official ROM, with Rom, firmware, and recovery) from which you can then start over.
You can install those as you would TWRP, directly from Fastboot mode via a computer (or other phone, there's a Magisk module that enables adb & fastboot - from phone to phone. Amazing)
Hi,
My favourite phone is the Xiaomi Redmi note 3 Pro SE with Lineage OS 13 (Yes marshmallow).
I got a new one that was in endless bootloop and I planned to get it working.
I don't know if the bootloader has been unlocked and how (last time I checked it was written locked), if a custom ROM as been flashed or anything that could been done on it before I get it.
After many tries I first succeed to install LineageOs 13 on it, what I remember:
I go to fastboot mode
I go to edl mode
I flashed it with an old MiFlash 2016.04.01.0 64 bit with an old official ROM : kate_global_images_6.9.29_20160805.0000.29_6.0_global_9aa2d85137 with recovery.img replaced by an old ZXC-TWRP 3.0.2-X. (This is the way to get a recovery with no need to unlock bootloader)
I started it directly to TWRP recovery mode (to be sure TWRP will stay it I guess?) changed the language and checked OTA checkbox in parameters
I started this old official ROM once (to get the full storage capacity)
I discovered it was a 16GB ROM / 2GB RAM version instead a 32GBROM / 3GB RAM I previously knowed
I restarted to TWRP recovery mode
I wiped david/cache
I flashed the last knowed LineageOS 13 for this phone: https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...ageos-13-0-t3533744/post83687823#post83687823
I wiped david/cache
I flashed the last radeon kerned on it
I wiped david/cache
I restarted it to LineageOS 13
I restarted to TWRP recovery mode, changed the language and checked OTA checkbox in parameters
I flashed magisk (sytemless)
I wiped david/cache
I restarted it to LineageOS 13
I could use it install a lot of things, was happy with it
Before succeeding I tried a lot of combinations of official ROM/TWRP/MiFlash versions and this couple was the only one working.
Other MiFlash versions don't detect the phone in edl mode
But 2 weeks later, just after installing a new app, the phone sudently reboots and I got stuck in bootloop again...
I could go to recovery one time, I selected reboot system, now I can't go to recovery anymore
I still can go to fastboot mode and edl mode, and I can flash a ROM, but whatever I flash I can't go away from bootloop.
What could the new bootloop come from?
Is my installation sequence good?
Why only this combination of official ROM/TWRP/MiFlash versions was working?
Why can't I start a ROM anymore after a new flash?
Why can't I go to the recovery anymore after a new flash?
How to check if the emmc memory is defective (I got no error while flashing)?
Thanks for reading, hope someone still cares on this old great phone
Sorry for my bad English
No clue what the problem may be. What app did you install? You could always try to go back to stock if you haven't already. Basically wipe phone completely and flash stock through mi flash.

Thanks for your answer.
The last app before bootloop was a sms/mms backup app on google store I get through Aurora.
I tried to flash the stock ROM (old one) kate_global_images_6.9.29_20160805.0000.29_6.0_glo bal_9aa2d85137 but it doesn't start, always bootloop.
I have no option to wipe on the only miflash version that detect my phone in edl : the 2016.04.01.0 64 bit version. so I choose flash all data/storage include, but still bootloop.
Why are you using such a old rom? Use latest miflash and latest global. On the bottom right of miflash you should have something like clean and lock. Just note that if you're unofficially unlocked you'll need to apply for unlock or unlock unofficially again.

Other Miflash version don't detect my phone when it is in edl mode
I could start other stock rom, I know tried this ones:
kate_global_images_7.6.8_20170608.0000.00_6.0_global_2040bd5a39
kate_global_images_8.12.13_20181213.0000.00_6.0_global_304fc0692b
But I couldn't flash my LineageOS 13 + recovery with those.
I tried so much combinations TWRP/Stock rom, I don't remember what I tested.
I just know the MiFlash 2016.04.01.0 64 bit with an old official ROM : kate_global_images_6.9.29_20160805.0000.29_6.0_glo bal_9aa2d85137 with recovery.img replaced by an old ZXC-TWRP 3.0.2-X. was the only one combination that worked for me for installing LineageOS 13 + recovery working
Now, every time I try to flash something (whatever it is) it goes to bootloop...
Only fastboot and edl mode are working
If you have other links / combinations I would be happy to try

Hi,
No, not too late my phone is still waiting, so thanks for your answer
Could you tell me witch version of rom / tool did you use?
I will try on a other windows computer to be sure there is no conflict with old tools I installed before.
If it works I will flash CM13 (marshmallow), I thought I should not use a too recent dev/global ROM before flashing CM13, but I don't remember were I read this. Is this true?

I'm not home this weekend so I can't say for sure. gismoZ recommends using the 8.0.2 firmware or something like that can't remember, but the latest works just fine on my kate. The latest miflash is from 20200314 and just get the latest global rom and try to flash it.
I tried with an other windows computer, I successfully used last MiFlash version
But now, whatever I flash, ROM version or recovery version, it stay in bootloop when I power it.
I expect the eMMC memory to be faulty but why doesn't I have any error while flashing?
How to be sure this comes from the eMMC chip?
Some people have successfully changed it on the mediatek version of the phone:
https://fr-fr.facebook.com/16816505...c-kmvtu-done/1821360108117225/?_fb_noscript=1
https://translate.google.com/transl.../03/service-hp-xiaomi-redmi-mi-note-mati.html
If I go on this solution I have some questions before:
Must the eMMC chip be programmed before soldering it?
If not, can I program it with MiFlash once soldered?
If not, have I to use some special touch/contact on the mainboard to program it?
How to be sure of the chip model to buy?
Will the chip come already balled? Or have I to ball it before soldering it on mainboard?
Could I buy a 32GB chip instead 16GB original one?
Something else to test before going on this crazy last chance solution?
I bought a EDL flash cable, but I think I don't need it on this phone, I alway success to go to EDL mode from fastboot mode with a small batch script.
Hello ,
Any chance I could get an answer anymore or is my problem too specific maybe?
I unlocked the device bootloader thanks to Narender, and tried to flash Lineage OS 18.1. After flashing the ROM and vendor zip files, I switched the current slot and restarted to fastboot mode. Then I flashed the vbmeta image. Then I rebooted to recovery to check the current slot. Slot was as expected, so I rebooted the system.
Then, TWRP gave me an alert saying "No OS is installed" before rebooting. I was unsure what was the reason for it because the ROM was just installed, so I rebooted the system.
After that, device went straight into fastboot mode after "Android One" screen. No matter which option I choose from there, it keeps restarting the bootloader. I tried using "fastboot reboot recovery" but that did not work either. Then I tried to change the active slot of the device using fastboot commands. That did not help either.
Now I'm stuck with a Nokia 7.2 that can only be turned off or start in fastboot mode. Is it bricked beyond saving? I just want to install TWRP in any of the slots and install any usable ROM. Any help is deeply appreciated.
Installed NFT and flashed the stock ROM using that. All good now. I still need to figure out how to install ROMs on A/B systems using TWRP.

Hey, thanks. But I thought it's not possible due how the signatures in security patches work. So I gave up. Maybe I misunderstood. Linking to Raghu's reply below.

No, wi-fi with twrp still doesn't work. But what I did was, I extracted the boot image of the ROM I was using, flashed twrp, flashed gapps and then flashed the boot file I extracted earlier. So, wi-fi does work in the end. But, you can't have twrp perpetually installed
Some tutorials I saw online used fastboot boot twrp.img
What this is supposed to do is boot into twrp temporarily and is gone after restart.
But, on this phone, instead of booting to recovery after the command, it boots to the OS. And when you restart the boot image is gone and you restart into the stock recovery. So, that method doesn't work

Yup, pretty much what I experienced too.
I haven't tried extracting boot image and flashing it manually. At this point to be honest, I'm reluctant to put my hands on it again without having a clear step-by-step guide about it.
I did write a step by step guide. But i'll leave it to you to decide if it is clear. Ok I realize I haven't linked the post.
