Ok i managed to get it to work by installing the wallpaper apk through MiXplorer app (search for the apk on the web or bought it through the play store).
Thanks!
Thanks, it works on Redmi Note 9 Pro with MIUI 12.5 Global.
Btw when i reboot my phone, i still have the wallpaper but the com.miui.miwallpaper package is rolling back to the stock version and i need to reinstall it to change the wallpaper again.

I found a way around the annoying "Error 402" when trying to apply a 3rd party/non theme store theme!
Steps I used for success:
1) Root with Magisk.
2) Download Root Explorer or a root file manager of your choice.
3) With Root Explorer mount system R/W, go to /system/build.prop, open build.prop in text editor, and change ro.build.type=user to ro.build.type=userdebug
4) Now download Miui Theme Editor and import 3rd party theme, save, and install.
5) Open theme app and apply theme with no errors.
Good luck!

I had read you can't apply third party themes unless you are a theme developer. I setup a theme developer account and was still not able to apply third party themes. I'm not sure about your situation but I wasn't able to use third party themes on China 8.0 alpha or Global 8.0 beta(8.1.11) even with Miui Theme Editor without the above method.
I'm xiaomi designer and on Miui 9 it was impossible to install a third party theme even with MIUI Theme Editor, they have established a new politic wich forbid all third party theme. But i'm beta tester and i don't know why but we've got update 8.1.11 Global dev beta and on this update we can apply all theme

Hey!
I tried your method.
When applying a theme it says "Unable to connect to network" so themes application needs an internet connection to verify.
With internet on, it just says same error (maybe different code): auth rejected -99.
Can you help me please?
Im on Global Beta 8.3.1, mi5.
Same error. I am on 8.3.8 Global beta, mi max prime

Is it possible that u would need to submit ur theme to Xioami 1st then they publish it through theme store? Then we download it from theme store and that's the time it works.
Sorry, I'm na noob here at xda as well as with our device.

For Android 9.0+ custom roms
1. Install QuickstepSwitcher module (link to module in the thread below)
2. Install the oneplus launcher apk, don't set it as your default launcher.
3. With any other launcher, open Quickstep Switcher
4. Set "OnePlus Launcher" as your Quickstep provider.
5. Reboot.
6. Set OnePlus Launcher as your default launcher
7. Done

Jfyi, the launcher worked fine on stable 10.1.3.0 with custom kernel and root ofc.
You can use the module with lawnstep launcher 2 or pixel launcher and you'll get apps in recents just like pixel experience but on any ROM.

Force close and crash
works on my Redmi Note 4 with Pixel Experience (9.0), but unfortunately no notification dots (I think it needs notification access, but unfortunately the launcher does not show on the respective site, so one cannot enable it). otherwise excellent!

I had the same problem. You have to uninstall YouTube updates before installing Vanced from magisk. Optional:go to playstore, search YouTube, click on it, dots menu (upper right) and uncheck auto updates.
working now had to reinstall miui, i used red recovery to update might have caused some problems.
ps: i cant seem to apply the aosp notification icons (poco theme) is that working for you guys?

There are available magisk and twrp installers of global theme app on xiaomi.eu forum (to update you need to manually replace themestore.apk... tested on twrp installer only)

The Xiaomi.eu MIUI 14 version is pretty good! Apps tend to work better, like email notifications actually showing up, bluetooth connection to my Galaxy Watch is more stable, things are feeling snappy.
Also the screen can be much darker now, no more need of third party apps like Night Owl to save my eyes at night.
Battery backup seems better too, don't have a full loop on record yet, but screen off now consumes 0.7% instead of 2%. Will post results when I get down from a full charge.

I flashed EU rom, didn't see any big change except for the unusual system memory issue. It is also very difficult to de-encrypt in twrp and also very difficult to disable the read-only key in the system.
