Adaptive Charging in Pixel 3 - Google Pixel 3 Guides, News, & Discussion

does anyone know if the Pixel 3 will get adaptive charging?Especially the pixel should get it. The battery is mediocre and also 2 years old. So it would help a lot to save the battery.

According to this, only Pixel 4 and above are getting adaptive charging.

This app is supposed to help extend battery life by limiting the charge level, which shortens the number of hours per charge. I've been using it for quite a while, but have no way of knowing if it actually extends the battery life.

s9 plus exynos battery drain ( android system)

I have done factory reset atleast 5 times , but everytime 3-4 days later , the battery life tends to get poorer and poorer.
The day after factory reset - android system is consuming half the battery percentage of screen
But a few days later android system is taking alot of battery ( SCREENSHOT ATTACHED)
Can someone let me know that why is android system taking so much battery.
And what in android system ( like what apps ) are taking the battery.
Disable background activity for Android System.
Also, I get upto 10-12% consumption by Android system by the end of the battery without disabling background activity for it (10-12% turn out to be 50% of what screen consumes); though my SOT is consistently above 6Hrs.
Test the battery endurance in general and then judge if Android System power draw matters much.
interesting thread. For android system I also get 50% of what SOT consumes ... And I wonder what it can be and what are the consequences of denying background activity to it (activated the switch just now, I'll see if it changes something for me). I hope it does not disable notifications and so on ...
See the drain by Android system despite of disabling background activity.
It did not affect battery endurance; I'm getting am most same as what i was getting earlier.

You have 7 and a half hours of SOT and you complain? Your battery is not draining, you are using the phone, and the battery life is excellent.
Also more than 24 Hours of complete battery life on that SOT. This is incredible, I do not get any close to that. I am assuming that you are just trolling.

LOL, no, I'm absolutely not complaining.
I was telling OP that:
1. Things can improve slightly if he disables background activity for Android System
2. Android System consuming 50% as much power as Screen does not necessarily mean that it is the cause for bad battery endurance
I was giving example of good battery life despite of that 50% thing.

I don't have a problem.
My battery life (if you see the screenshot) is already excellent in my opinion with 2 SIM.
Shifting to single SIM didn't make any difference since network coverage is good almost always for me (I stay in a metropolitan).
I have already used the phone single SIM for a few days while it was new without any difference. Battery life was wise back then since phone was still adapting to the usage pattern though.

Poor battery life for me as well. Barely 15 hours with 3 hours SOT. With a custom ROM I got good battery life for a day or 2 and then back to square one.
I guess I will have to live with performance like many others.
Exynos btw.

You can use the app to detect which apps are using how much of your battery percentage. However, you have to use adb to enable more stats inside the app. Using adb requires a PC
Guys I am also experiencing the same battery drain with android system. I mean it's the second in the list almost equal to screen. My SOT is 3 and half hours max. Tried factory reset and all. Restored apps manually too. Guess Samsung should release a patch for it. Mainly beaming services, Bixby, AnT+Hal keeps running in the background I guess.

Battery getting less usage time after 2 weeks?

Hi guys, anyone experiencing what I am saying in the title? A decrease in battery life after 2 weeks. Ar first it was amazing, I never had a phone with such SOT and usage time in general. And starting few days ago, battery depletes faster, lasting at maximum 24 hours or such. During first cycles I got easily 30 hours and 8 SOT. I dont have any new apps or so.
Do you know any possible reason? Did it happen to any of you?
Phone has memory leaks, it should be fixed in a future update, it also have laggy animations for me when using new gestures.
Thank you, most probably you are right..
No such issues with the first one I had. It must be an app. I use on screen navigation buttons, and Lawnchair launcher but, I dif not have batter issues with it.
I got around 8-10 SOT over 36 hours/.
I got exactly the same in the beginning. I cant figure out what is changed...for sure no app seems to be the culprit according to the battery status.. But it was my first thought..
I had my first handset (#gluegate) for just over 3 weeks and noticed the battery life was gradually getting slightly worse, although even when it was brand new I was only getting 14/15 hours of above average use.
Just before it got returned I was getting around 12/13 hours for the same usage.
I'll see how the new one performs.

So I might not be crazy after all...
If you likely updated the Google app on November 19th, that new version has been reported by somebody to have apparently increased the battery drain.
However it's hard to tell if this is the actual cause.
Personally I didn't update that app (knowing the possible problem) and currently don't suffer of any reduced battery life.

So my replacement handset that I've now had for a few weeks can comfortably get 14/15 hours of moderate to heavy usage and still have 20-30% battery left.
Very happy with the phone overall. No piece of technology will completely please everyone but I think the M20P is outstanding in so many ways.

No, if you factory reset it will come back. I think you can actually disable it by ADB instead of fully uninstalling it, so if you wanted it back you could just re-enable it. If you uninstall you can only get it back by a factory reset unless you are rooted apparently. Just make sure you have another launcher installed before doing either.

Had this phone for about 1 month now and yesterday I got a whopping 12 hours of SOT with smart resolution and brightness set to auto around the halfway brightness point. Wifi and network were connected at all times and made a couple calls and about 3 hours Spotify, watched a ful movie, some YouTube and many hours of social media and browsing... Im blown away by the battery life.
I've had mine for 5 week's, had 9 hours SOT with 17 hours off charge, wifi, mobile data, location rotation auto brightness set automatically, watched 1 hour YouTube quite a lot of Fakebook. Still had 20% battery left.

I have found a higher drain if I sync google photos (so i turn this off and only turn it onto sync once a month) also my works emails can eat the battery more so I turn them off unless I need the latest ones.
Other than that have found the battery life very good!

Yes it's the 3a. I think i could get more SOT without gaming.
From full charge to zero, I could get about 10hrs of screentime consecutively browsing, but that's not how I use my phone. In 48hrs of 'normal usage' I get about 5hrs of screentime.
I do about 3-6 hours of BT audio streaming daily which is why there is a larger than normal screen off usage. Still nice average SOT. I have so many sessions because I try to keep my battery between 50 and 80% for longevity.
I get 8 good hours.
What does Android 10 Battery say? Screen usage since full charge? Also Full charge lasts about???
Mine says 1 day 11 hours of typical usage. I always charge at night so it has rarely if ever run out.

the app usage of 66% is a clue. maybe you got some crazy app eating up battery. if you have bluetooth and/or wifi scanning on continuously that can drain a bit. gsam can be setup to show which app is using most by doing the adb command. just select apps for the details if you have not already.

Still can't hit 4 hrs SOT. Not once. I really don't know what to do at this point. Incredibly frustrating with everyone else on this thread having MUCH better results.
GSAM is showing some pretty beefy wakelocks on that "RemoteSoundTriggerDetection" and "*alarm*", ActivityManager-Sleep, etc.
I bought it from Best Buy. Should I go up there and see if they'll replace (highly doubt it) ? Maybe flash a custom kernel?
screen on time is a function of what a person normally does with a phone. one way to get high screen on time is you could set display intensity to 25% and timeout to 30 min. if you need that number to be higher. just let the screen be on as much as possible. when you first got it did you fully charge it then fully discharge it then fully charge again? screen on time is about the last metric i ever think about. i don't understand at all why it's so important. i'd be willing to bet some users set intensity to 20% and time out to 30 min or always on and do very little else then they get s.o.t. of 8-9 hrs or higher and think it's great when it's a joke. that's the way i look at it anyway.

Not sure if you're replying to me but I'll answer anyway. Yes I fully charged it then fully discharged it then fully charged again when I first got it.
It's not the SOT that is so worrisome but the constant Android system and kernel drain on my device.
I'm getting worse battery life on my 6 week old 3a than my 2.5 yo OnePlus 5 which wasn't good to begin with. This device was lauded for having excellent battery life and I'm not seeing it.

It isn't that at all. I found using it for anything where the phone needs to utilize the GPU a lot, like gaming, drains battery substantially. "Light" workloads, like web browsing, using social media apps, streaming video, etc give you really good battery life. Once I start up a game, I see about 5-6 hrs compared to 9.5 hrs if I just stream YouTube, check the XDA app, email, Reddit, etc.

Battery life S7+

While using the Tab S7+ for almost two weeks now, I consistently get approx. 6 hours of battery life (that is with the screen on 60fps, half brightness and mostly using office applications like Teams, Outlook, etc.). With the huge battery included and some reviewers indicating they are getting up to 10 hours of use, I'm not sure if I have some issues.
What are your experiences with respect to battery life?
My screen on time is very good. Can easily get 10 hours of SOT for light browsing etc. A bit of video here and there.

I just have my tab s7 plus. And I get 6 hours and 20 minutes out of my battery with the screen set to 120 hz. You know when your screen is set to 60 hz when you go to settings - display - motion smoothnes is set to standard. I am right now testing how long my battery last when my screen is set to 60 hz. If you want to know which apps are draining the most battery life. Go to settings - device care - battery battery usage. For its Google chrome
Just tested it and I can do 8 hours and 50 minutes on one battery charge while the screen is set on 60 hz. It's not as good as the reviews say on YouTube. But largely better than my very old samsung galaxy tab pro 12.2

It could be a manufactory flaw. But it is more likely that there are several apps on your tab that are draining your battery.
Mine is not a plus, so not sure if this is helpful. I get 10h from around 86% charge (I don't (dis)charge 0-100).
Mostly Netflix and video calls on wifi, some browsing, reading, and note taking.
This is with 60hz, and battery save feature which is supposed to limit max charge to 85% (Though that feature is questionable from what little testing I did.)
Check what apps are draining your battery. It's not necessarily a manufacturing flaw.
I am from India and i have the note pro 12.2 lte version which crazily enough i use as my primary phone. I have data enabled all the time with auto brightness mode on. I use the Galaxy Note 7 ported ROM for the P905. I use my note pro 12.2 to watch a lot of youtube videos, whatsapp chat, browse the web, checking and sending emails, reading word and pdf work documents, 30 to 45 mins of playing asphalt 8 and into the dead 2 and answering/making 4 to 5 voice calls a day. I get a solid 8 hours of SOT even now when i get the low battery alert at 15%. I got over 9 hours of SOT on Lineage 17.1 android Q but found the features too limiting compared to touchwiz and i missed the spen. And that is battery life on a 6 year old device. I do make sure to not charge it more than 90% and i .com not let the battery dip below 15% before i charge it. I guess i got lucky and got a tablet with a really good battery.
The tab s7 plus has almost the same size screen but has the major advantage of it being amoled versus the lcd screen on the note pro 12.2. Plus with the new power efficient cpu and a 10000 mah battery, i am surprised at the battery life most people are reporting. I guess being than thin comes at a price and there is less power generated mah for mah compared to the 8.8 mm thick P905.
Just got mine yesterday. The battery life is significantly better than that of my Tab S6. I'll see how it goes over the next few days.
Don't know exactly in SOT but working from home, I charge it once a day and am using it constantly from 9am till 11-12pm

There's an in built option to stop charge at 85%. Though from my testing I don't think it's functional really.
I've checked the voltage on 100% with both on and off, and the values were the same.
Maybe someone who has it off could measure the voltage on 99-100 charge? Would be nice to comparte results.
We run CCleaner Pro 5.1.0 [for Android] set with max battery life and automatic cleaning mode. One of the useful functions is a 1-click Boost which puts to sleep/closes apps in batch mode. Appears to help with extending battery duration as we've run 5 days with everyday on/off use (messaging, browsers Dolphin, Puffin, Vivaldi, etc) between charging.
Also set maximum battery charge limit to 85 percent from Settings > Charging > slider button to On [85 percent]
I am a complete noob to the art of monitoring battery heallth & charging, not even sure if my question needs a new thread.
My S7+ has been in use for about 2 weeks. The first day, I charged to 100%, then enabled the 85% charge option and also installed Accubattery and set that to remind me to remove the charger at 80%. I have charged it only up to 80% ever since, on a slow charger.
Today, Accubattery Battery Health is showing Battery Health at 83% capacity. Does this mean the overall health has gone down by 17% in jus two weeks? Or do I need to learn a lot more about meassuring battery health, and if so, is there a dummy's guide anyone can point me to?
I bought it direct from Samsung, haven't made any ROM changes and am using the stock launcher. Love the tablet.

What exactly am I supposed to be looking at there?
I have the same issue here. I even went as far as to ring up Amazon and get them to send me a second one as my battery must be faulty if its only getting <50% (6-7hrs) when its advertised to run for 14hrs.
Upon receiving my new one. I did various battery stress tests and found that the new one had an even worse battery than my old one.
(Bare in mind both of them are at factory settings).
I did this test for about a week apples to apples comparison, then eventually returned the new one as my old one (which is only like maybe 2 days older lol) performed better in every single benchmark as well as battery.
So I either got really unlucky receiving two units with bad battery or this is just the norm?
EDIT:
Upon doing a quick google search; it seems like this is true across the board.

5hrs and 28 mins according to google and this article
Either way, i've noticed if I play a video, it roughly loses 10% per hour; but when browsing i can easily lose 10-11% every 30 mins.

Question Official battery life thread

I have the S23 Ultra since February 3rd and battery life gets better and better.
I don't know what to say. I think this s23 ultra is faulty. I can't be at 29% battery used with over 6 hours screen on time! Light use, from 80% charge
15 hours total uptime, 8 and a half hours screen off time, gotta sleep sometime. LIGHT performance profile used and screen at 60hz cause 120hz my eyes can hardly see. It's smoother yes, but barely, battery life is king for me
All on WiFi, location on, most apps sleeping. Gobsmacked. It's beating the redmagic 8 pro that's in the household with its 6k mah battery.
I'm expecting a lot less using mobile data, surely

Amazing battery
This phone is perfect
Got it since February 10th in the USA and I can only say battery has been great. Compared to my other phones ( coming from a pixel 7 pro and a Xiaomi mi 11 5g) the battery life is just excellent on this s23 ultra, for such a big device and huge screen size I think Samsung finally nailed it. No sleeping apps, not profile settings just plain stock and so far so good. Wifi and data on 24/7, location on 24/7, VPN 24/7 . The browser times where spent a huge time watching videos from it, almost an hour of video calling and shooting some video and photos, couple of sessions of gaming.

How much do you lose on standby? Say overnight, while sleeping, over 8-10 hours how much do you lose ?
My last check yesterday was 3 percent

Thanks, is that with WiFi data Bluetooth GPS etc off? How many hours standby did you lose 3% on?
The amazing battery life has a lot to do with the display too. It is a hugely more efficient panel.
Samsung gave the Galaxy S23 series a new energy-efficient AMOLED display
Samsung confirmed that it has fitted the Galaxy S23 line with a new type of AMOLED display that saves on power.

All on. Wifi. Data. Location. Bluetooth. Performance mode.
I'm so happy with this battery performance and am afraid to update OS when it comes out...Given the great track record of Samsung breaking things that don't need fixing, there's a high probability that the battery life will go for a toss
Had my s23 ultra since 7 Feb and consistently get just under 10 hours of SOT (most of my day is indoors on WiFi, with a 2 or 3 hours walk most afternoons in 4g)
I am running pretty.much on default settings for screen and battery - I just use my phone normally and forget about battery optimisation settings
This is the best battery.life EVER on a Samsung!
After 2 weeks with the 23u and my standard use of it i have from 85% to 30% (i never go below 30%) 4h SoT

I think it is ok. I use performance mode, all location, Bluetooth with watch, some 5G, some WiFi etc.
I mostly read on phone, scrolling...

Have you done anything specific in battery settings? Any debloating? Is this with wqhd + 120hz? Standard mode or lite mode? What's your battery settings ?

Yes I did debloat, light batter profile and battery saving (it's more than powerfu enough).
Plus I have disabled all the nearby services for smarthings find the phone offline wifi quick share etc.
I don't like having the phone always sending radio signals around for no reason

Can you give a brief list of what you debloated?
Also, android system intelligence service, is that even a necessary app? Would cause any issues if I disabled/deleted it?

Honestly I didn't track the changes, but I followed this guide
[DISCONTINUED] Samsung Galaxy One UI - Optimization Guide
THIS IS A SUGGESTED CONFIGURATION FOR SAMSUNG DEVICES OUT OF SUPPORT/CLOSED I - RECOMMENDED SETTINGS To Start With - Factory Reset before starting optimisations - Factory Reset after every Major update (One UI/Android) - Remove SIM before first...

I wasn't even too much aggressive with debloating, maybe I'll go for a second round
