Samsung Gear S power consumption - Samsung Gear S

Hi, I'm new to xda. This place has been fantastic and I'm really enjoying Android on my Gear S.
I've had the watch now for a few months and it gets through the day fine. Some interesting thing I noticed the other day was I left the watch on my desk from 8am till 8pm and only 50% of the battery was used. Usually the battery runs out after 12-13 hours. I'm wondering what it could be that's using up more power just by being on my wrist throughout the day? I have locations switched off but perhaps the pedometer or something making the watch work harder? Maybe something could be disabled so that only 50% of the battery is used in 12 hours?
Also, I've been toying with the idea of putting a higher mah battery in the watch. Has anyone attempted this?
Again, really enjoying this forum. It's been really fun tinkering away with my Gear S.
Thanks!

Hi , I am new too..
You can try something new...
Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2
May be you feel better...More about the watch

Not really my cup of tea, but thanks for the suggestion.

I wonder what the start screen is because it looks nice, black background and cool icons. As for the battery, you can't help it, these watches were adapted to a system other than android

I've had my Gear S for six years.........every now and then the watch would have severe battery drain..............not sure what causes it, usually I power off-and-on a couple of times and it goes away. I did get a message in December that the watch would not work with 2021 Samsung phones. I'm planning to get the S21 Ultra soon so I went ahead and got the Active 2 from Swappa.com. I wanted a watch with a speaker and newer...........really pleased. I do miss the shape/size of the Gear S.

I'm using BIG Launcher with the BL holo theme along with Android. I find it makes texting much easier than the stock android text messanger.

It's the shape and size that drew me to the Sm-r750. I really enjoy wearing it and the user experience with Android. My only beef is the battery life!

I can get about 12-15hrs if I turn off all connections and keep the brightness down (mine isn't a 3G Gear S). Running stock however....
Still the best future-looking watch IMHO. I get questions and comments about it all the time.

[Q] Does the Alpha overheat that much?

Hi Guys,
I want to purchase this phone next month (due to expering contact).
But I read on android authority that this phone regurarly overheats.
I rather trust the people here who uses their Alpha on regular basis.
Is it true that this phone often overheats like the S2?

I have had mine 2 months and its never overheated for me.
Now it gets warm like any phone but only when you hammer it. Its in a case all the time also.
The Android Authority are not the authority on this occasion.
The phone is super fast and a real underrated handset. You wont regret it.
Any other Q's just ask.
same hire
Mine isn't over heating ,
3 days ago, it was overheating , than i restarted phone and than problem solved .
Sony phones are king of over heating
Thanks guys for your quick response.
I definitely am convicted to buy this phone..

I would strongly advise you to do so. Even though this phine isn't popular, it still has flafship performance and (for me) quite satisfactory battery life

after 1++ hour of gaming, the area near the cpu had the same temp as all the other surface (im talking about the area of the backcover),
so im guessing , the phone doesnt have overheating issues.
in this pic u can see where the cpu is located:
(notice the 2 metal plates, cpu is under the big metal plate(near his thumb))

As for the small battery, believe me this device uses the energy very very very efficient

[Q] Does it have a standard notification light?

I am really interested in knowing if the device will have a led for notification or only the side blinking edge foe some contacts.
I have the same question. Do we have the notification LED at all?? That is the most useful feature in Android phones.
yes...
I think I saw it on one of those hands on video.
Yes it does.

besides the phone having a screen? lol.. this question comes up every time a new phone comes out... out of my 10+ years using smartphones (at least 20 different phones) ive never seen a phone without a notification light. heck, even my v600 clamshell has one.

S6 edge sometimes miss it but it can display on going notifications on its your preferred edge either left side or right side. The black and white notifying will not effect to your battery life.

The newer Moto phones like Moto X and Droid Turbo do not have a notification light. They use "active display" that the whole screen lights up every 30 seconds or so if you have notifications. I prefer the old fashioned notification light myself.
I'm using a galaxy s2 right now with no notification led.
Glad s6 edge has it!

Screen display burn in protection is not working :(

I've a zenwatch 2
Recently I've noticed that there is a shadow on the screen, to discover then that maybe some pixels have died !!!!!!!!!
I've returned to dev. options and find the screen burn in protection disabled, enabled it and after restart returned to the dev. options and it's disabled again.
Tried to snap some photos, you can notice the circle in the middle :S

Have you tried setting "Always On Screen" to off. I disabled ambient mode to save battery, but it ends up leaving the display on for no more than a few minutes a day. That should practically eliminate burn-in.
Mine has the same problem, nothing is working, I have no idea how to fix
OLED displays are prone to this. I have an old Galaxy S2 that I used as a desk clock for a while, and it now has a clock pattern burned into it that shows up on very light screens. Note that while the underlying cause of OLED burn in is different from CRTs, the effect is similar. The pixels are permanently dimmer because they are dying faster.
The only "fix" is to display a negative image for a while until the rest of the screen "burns in" to match, which might be some trick on a smart watch (and it's not easy on a phone), so it's probably just stuck there. Also, even if you eliminate the burn-in, all you have really done is shortened the life of the remaining pixels. I'd just choose a similar face that tends to hide the issue and move on.
The only solution is to not have a static image on the screen for very long. For watches, this means letting the display turn off instead of keeping it on all the time.
Thanks all
Thought it was a software problem

It haven't been solved yet :crying:
I have a very tiny hope that AW 2.0 will solve it (Very tiny tint)
I keep my watch's (always on screen) off
I had to send mine in for warranty repair. This started after about four months use, without the always on screen. I just got it back, it took them about two weeks, but they replaced the screen, and it's good as new. I was hoping they'd load it with Wear 2.0 before they sent it back, but no such luck.

Battery life as a normal smartphone

Hi all,
I'm about to purchase this beautiful phone, but as I'm not planning on any heavy mobile gaming ( believe it or not, I just like Asus, ROG, the audio setup and the form factor), I'm very interested in knowing how the battery life is with regular use.
No official review goes too much in depth on this matter.
How is the standby time, SOT, using it as a regular smartphone (mail, social, youtube, camera etc)?
Thanks a lot for your input!
This is the first phone I've ever owned where I get 2 full days. I lose 2 or 3% overnight. Overall, battery life is amazing.
You must have everything turned off. I am not even close to that on stand by ...
I came from a Pixel 2 XL. All my apps are the exact setting and the Pixel 2 XL has a smaller battery and it last longer the entire day then the ROG phone
With this phone I am having to find ways to get better life. pixel 2 XL didn't do any or that. On my pixel 2 XL I even have Always On and music ID turned on
ROG Phone owners will have to wait for custom kernels and maybe even custom ROMs because something is eating the 4000 mah battery of this phone like nothing. Many tests have proven a poor battery life, very poor considering the battery size.
Whatever it is ... It's in the system

Question Asus Zenfone 8 Flip battery sucks

I am using my new Asus Zenfone 8 Flip the second day. I am disappointed. I use it normally as all my other phones, a bit of videos, a bit of photos, browsing youtube. Half a day battery is flat. The screen was 60 Hz. Battery settings: Optical/Dynamic. Double checked if there is any draining app - nothing found.
All my other phones would work at least three-four times longer (and I had very good phones!). I am disappointed. It is not worth the price.
Battery is fine for me, not worse than op7 before. Although I charge only up to 90%.
But in total, I'm not that happy either - the fingerprint sensor kills it off for me.

After using Xiaomi Mi Max 1, then Mi Max 2 and Mi Max 3 with their unkillable batteries that can work 2 or even 3 days in a row, I wonder how even people pay that money for phones that hardly survive by the end of the day.
Fingerprint sensor sucks too. Indeed.
Has anyone noticed that if you listen music from Spotify or youtube in background with an adapter and you open a game (not an app, only game) the music quality Will lower extremely? It Is really annoying
it shouldn't... powerusage seems quite average.

Why don't you just take a Bugreport and upload it here: https://bathist.ef.lc/
Then you would know why battery life sucks

Cannot Check again, I swapped back to op7.
Now, half a year later I am on op9pro ;-)
I just got the 8 Flip and I was also expecting it could last over 24h on my non gaming use.
I installed GSam, Naptime and Greenify to try to save some battery, but I'm still struggling to save battery.
Disable 5G? Just got the phone. first thing I did.. I don't give a f... about 5g..
