Just ordered my new o2 orbit 2. Upgrading from my orbit 1.
I'm assuming it's still a tiny micro-SD card. Does anyone know what the largest capacity card that is supported by the orbit 2 ?

Theoretically the HTC Polaris can support MicroSD up to 2GB and MicroSDHC up to 32 GB cards. Anyway in this moment the maximun capacity I've seen is MicroSDHC 8 GB cards (I've a 8 GB Sandisk and it works perfect), so don't worry...

The 6GB card you linked to will be fine, and importantly it is supplied with an SDHC capable reader for the USB slot on the PC.
The Orbit 2/ Polaris can go up to a capacity of 32GB (if you can find cards this large at the moment they would be very costly) - 8GB are certainly available and I have seen 16GB is about to be released (might already be available, at a price) - Mike
MicroSD SDHC drawbacks?
Considering operation specifically for the Touch Cruise, are there any reasons to forgo (to do without) the additional capacity of the SDHC to gain greater than class 4 or 6 speeds (ie: sandisk ultra II microsd with read/write speads of 10/9 m/s)? Would these greater speeds help significantly with video playback or rendering pictures, or would one advise that the difference is negligible and definitely not worth giving up the excess storage potential?
I bought an 8GB Sandisk microSDHC class 4 (with microreader included) for 52 euros. Installed Tomtom Maps of Western Europe on the card and several movies (created with CloneDVD Mobile). Tomtom 6.032 as well as the movies played with Coreplayer 1.1.3 are running smooth. Hence class 4 should be fast enough.

i bought an 8gb sandisk one on ebay for 45$. i was dissapointed though that the built in "all in one" card reader on my crappy ass dell xps m1210 laptop can't read sdhc. still a good purchase though, filled up to 6 gb so far with music and gps maps, etc. i do not notice any performance issues with sdhc.

The fastest speed of Sandisk MicroSd SDHC is class 4, wonder where you did find Ultra II?
Applications like Tomtom will run better (smoother) using a faster MicroSD card, the fastest speed I could find so far is Class 4. As soon as there is a faster card available I will go for it, as long as it is at least 8GB.
I've seen 12GB ones for sale. Would say TC can't use more than class 2, f/s video doesn't use that much!
There's plenty threads about problems recognizing 8GB cards tho, that suddenly it ;becomes; 2GB?

The faster the accesstime to the MicroSd card the better the overall performance. If class 6 becomes available I will go for it

I use the same card and I am happy with it, however, an application like Tomtom is depending on a lot of data transfer between the card and the application. I contacted Tomtom to figure out how to get a smooth working screen and the answer was, processor speed and data transfer speed of the card. In my previous equipment, a Mio A201 PDA, I replaced the 60X SD card with a 150X SD card and Tomtom run much smoother.

I thot it only affects sustained transfer. Burst/accesstime are something else.

No, it affects transfer speed in general.
FYI... Sandisk is now selling an "Ultra" 64gb SDXC (micro SD) card that is rated Class 10 and is UHS 1. The "Ultra" tag refers to their class of cards that have 30MB/second read speed (unk. what the write speed is). Sandisk also has an "Extreme Pro" class of cards that have 95MB/second read speed, but the largest "Extreme Pro" in micro SDXC is currently 16gb. If you shop hard, you can find the 64gb "Ultra" SDXC card for less than $60 currently.
It's been previously reported that Razr supports SDXC cards, including 64gb (see this thread).
For anyone who might buy one, a word of caution. Put it in your Razr and format it there first before trying to use it on your PC. I'm not sure whether I received a defective card, or I somehow ruined my card by trying to format it to FAT32 on a Windows machine (using Paragon Partition Manager). I spent hours screwing with it before giving up and returning it to the seller.
I have the same 32gb version in my razr right now and it runs great. I assume the 64gb one wouldn't be any different.
Got mine for $23 on Amazon. Couldn't pass it up for that price.

It depends...
Is your USB adapter USB 2.0?
I typically use the SD Card slot with the adapter provided with the micro SD card.
USB for transfer unless you have a good adapter can be slower.
I use one 32gb class 10, works fine.

Have you tried a HD 1080p recording on your 32gb class 10 card ? , if yes - did you find any difference when you tried the same recording on a class 4 ( assuming 30 fps and standard cache)?
Got my one for a few weeks, phone has never been so slow.
Not faulty (tested the card multiple times) - anyone else having issues? I feel like I have a Galaxy S1. Just weird behaviour - Swype takes forever for k/b to appear, winamp takes forever for thumbnails for albums to appear - just apalling performance from my phone.

Try this... format the SD card from ur phone... increase the cache size of the card and give it a try..

I couldn't mount it or format it. My RAZR kept saying it was damaged. So, I formatted it in my PC first and all is well.
If you're under Windows XP, you'll need to have a program to do this. I used EaseUS Partition Master which you can get for free at http://download.cnet.com/EaseUS-Partition-Master-Home-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html.
So far, the card works great and it's nice to have more room for DLC and songs.

You can simply put it in the phone. No need to do anything beforehand. If it requires you to format, the phone will tell you to do so.
I've given up completely on trying to get this to work in my phone. The phone will recognize it as 64GB, but will freeze up on numerous occasions even if I'm not accessing it. Does no one else have the freezing issue? Running Flick 5.0 Tornado
So what's the concensus on this "extreme" cards' performance while in the phone? Are backups faster? Transferring files to/from a dekstop while connected via USB faster?

According to Sony spec. it supports up to 128 GB SDXC. Unfortunately I did not double check on my device.

Yes, i have 128gb class 10 and it works a charm.
I think your question is UHS1 OR 3 etc...
Mine is class 10 UHS1 and it is ok.
Any class 10 should be good enough, and if it has UHS rating, it is faster than those without UHS classification.
FYI, mine is Sandisk ultra.
Guys don't ever get sandisk ultra 64gb. I had 3 of their cards which was purchased at the same time and unfortunately it failed. The issue is rampant on their 64gb ultra (google Sandisk ultra cannot delete files). My micro sd suddenly became a read only device. Files are intact but i cant modify contents which means i cannot do format erase and anything. Practically it became a useless card. Already did windows low level format, tried to check drive permissions and it was not set in read only, no virus. The writting controller chip just broke down. for those who are planning to buy a card and have their cameras and their 4K vids automatically save in the sd card, then don't buy sandisk (at least The 64gb ultra). It seems their cards can't take much writing before it breaks

It's a shame you can't move any apps to the SD card, I have the LTE version and 16GB isn't enough space when you have a few games installed.
So I'm wondering if anyone has tried. I have a 256GB card already that works fine but I'm running out of space (Yes I'm carrying quite a lot of music with me and yes I do see it as a good thing) my music collection is bigger than 256GB and would like to carry more so that's why I asking.
I know the max is 256GB but I don't know if that's down to hardware (and card slot) or what

From my knowledge it's only up to 256, so if you get a 512, it may not work. Sorry haven't tried it yet, but as per the spec of poco it's only up to 256. I had a different phone before, a galaxy a8 2018 which suppprted up to 256 as well and when i tried my friend's 512gb it didn't recognize it, so most likely same will happen with the poco

you can use a 512gb sd card, but as soon you reach the 256gb full, files will get damaged and sd will fail to be recognized by the phone...

I would also have like to use a 512GB card. Does anyone know why this limitation exists? Is it a hardware constraint with the card reader, or a firmware or O/S constraint? I naively thought that SDXC compatibility would allow anything up to 2TB, but it's clearly not as simple as that.

That was definitely not my experience with other phones. Usually cards with higher than phone rated capacity work just fine.
From my understanding when phone manufacturers say up to 256 gb SD card supported they are saying that cause at that point of time that's the highest SD card available in the market. Most phones that can support 256gb will support higher capacities too.

Interesting video - thanks. So in theory a FAT32-formatted 512Gb SD card should be supported by any phone that supports FAT32 and SDXC? It's a shame there isn't a more recent video which tries 512GB cards in current smartphones.
In older days, when external storage limited size was 32Gb some Motorola's users (including me with Rokr Z6) used to divide 64Gb as two 32Gb mountable partitions.

some phones i could use higher sdcards, but in others i got problems the time i reach the advised memory limits...

I have a 512Gb Huawei memory card on my Poco F1 working fine, I haven't reached the 256Gb capacity because I've just received today. But so far so good ?
Lexar 512GB 633x (black / blue) from Aliexpress is working fine. At the moment 217GB is filled on the card.

I don't know if you have found an answer to your question as of yet but I have. I've purchased several different 512gb cards knowing that I had some use for them somewhere. The fact is that the Poco F1 does see 512 gigabytes... And then down the rabbit hole we go. After about 20 to 30 minutes of you installing the card and moving over all kinds of information, the Poco F1 begins to forget things. That's the only way I know how to put it. all the sudden some of the stuff that you have moved over to the card is not reachable even though you still see some of the shortcuts or some of the things that point to it depending on what program you're using and the next thing you know after about an hour and a half two hours it also can't find those either and then some of the program start to crash. These are not programs that I have you some third-party where to move over to the card at all. I didn't move over any software to the card I'm just talkin about moving over some of the things that it was to the card. and then you'll notice after a few more hours that the card is unreadable. The way that you can fix this is to go ahead and put it into any computer and I used a program called mini it's a freeware program to recover the lost partition. then I put it right back in the phone and at first the phone fights with and everything else but you can get it to look at it and see it again only to repeat the exact same problem over and over and over again. The problem seems to be exacerbated if you were to use a torrent program to save data to the driver's if it was a download folder from multiple sources at once. I tried everything I could. I even tempted fate a little bit by saying if I could use aparted the cell phone version in order to partition the drive into two different types of partitions one of them course being the f2fs partition I was trying to see if I could successfully divide the memory card into two partitions so that the computer or cell phone would see them as two separate entities does relieving the problem of it seeing larger than 256. this was not successful though I cannot promise that I did everything correctly. I would greatly appreciate any information you happen to have about this. I have several of these 512gb cards and some of which I saved a lot of money on some of which I spend a lot of money on but they all seem to operate the exact same with the exact same problem. if you had any suggestions on how to add that to a Asus tablet that I'm now having the exact same problem with and much lower micro SD card total capacity sizes than the Poco F1 s I would greatly appreciate that too. The Asus laptop that I'm dealing with is an Asus e203m and it comes with 32GB of real special fast memory that uses hard drive and so you can see we're picking this up for almost nothing is a great deal provided that you're a little tech-savvy can work with clouds quite a bit and hopefully find the solution to the problem and adding a 500 gigabyte micro SD card. The problem is that you can't partition those the way that you'd like or you think that you could. but for me I really love computers and love to turn branches on the weekend so to speak. I'd also love to learn anyting you might be willing to share about partitioning and the like.I know that windows will only see the first partition of a microSD card. but then who wants to be limited to just Windows anyway.

I have Samsung Evo Select 512 gigs and been using it since 6 months.
I have it full almost 90-95%+ full everytime as i load a lot of movies in it. During the time of writing it was 97% full.
It is formatted to exfat and is working perfectly.
There is no data loss or anything like that after 256 gigs.

I see conflicting information. According to Sony the max SD card is 512Gb however almost every site that shows specs for the Xperia 1 lists 1Tb as the max size. For example GSM Arena, which is generally pretty good for that sort of info.
I know for example that my Z Ultra will take 128Gb even though the max size stated by Sony is 64Gb. I just got a 200Gb card for my Z5 Premium and I kind of wish I had tried something bigger, although 200Gb is a lot. I have had the Xperia 1 for a couple months now, and while I do appreciate the 128Gb storage built in, I am getting to the point where I really need some more.
1Tb cards are considerably more pricey than 512Gb cards so it's not something I want to just try and see what happens. That being said I'm not really sure if a 1Tb card fits my budget right now anyway.

However in my experience, SD cards larger than the max size stated by the manufacturer have worked just fine. Haven't tried personally on my X1 though.

I'd love to have another TB on the phone but I may end up sticking with 512GB for now just because of cost.
I'm also curious if there is a benefit of getting the A2 speed card over the A1 speed. I've used only A1 speed cards thus far in my phones and cameras, however I imagine that the Xperia 1 may actually be able to make use of the higher speed card.
Any thoughts on that?

I have an A1 card in my X1 right now, and I'm satisfied with the speed, and to be quite honest, I can't see any point in spending extra to get an A2 card since I don't do frequent transfers of data between Internal Storage and SD, nor do I do a lot of 4K video recording to external storage, where I can imagine that faster external storage would be beneficial.
I can assure you that a 1TB micro SD card works on my Xperia 1 flawlessly.
1tb SanDisk A2 micro SD card works flawlessly. Using Xperia 1 9110 firmware 55.1.A.0.748.
