Hi,
I tried to upgrade my US998 from Oreo to Pie using LGUP patched. The upgrade process went well until the phone restarted and have this error message:
"Your device has failed a routine safety check and will not boot..."
I did try using LG Bridge to fix = not working
I did try fastboot boot laf.img (using extracted laf from H93031a_00_OPEN_EU_OP_1105) not working.
Any other solution?
Thanks
This Post got recommended to me. I am a Samsung user so my answer will probably be very stupid.
If you have fastboot, why don't you flash a recovery and a custom rom? Ik stupid but it's the only thing that comes to my mind since i don't have a LG phone lol

Is that "Download mode" the same as the Samsung one? How do you NORMALLY access it?

I'm not sure. Normally I access download mode using volume up and power button. The download mode was there for a sec and then the screen back to
"Your device has failed a routine safety check and will not boot..."
again.
Ah ok so now I understand.
But why don't you unlock your bootloader then if fastboot works? Do you know for sure that TWRP doesn't work?
I really want to help but I don't have a LG phone

EDIT: The LG Bootloader unlocking page is "under construction". Guess you have to bring your phone to LG for them to fix this...

Unfortunately my LG V30 is US region. The official bootloader site not support my phone. Thanks for your info anyway
I'm not sure why a Samsung user was recommended this post. And no offense to the Samsung user, but the process for unlocking, etc is VERY different for Samsung than it is for LG... so I recommend not worrying about that. Believe me, I know, because I'm researching switching to a Samsung in the future, and the process is very different!
That being said, the best resource here is the WTF thread with the post by ChazzMatt. That post has everything you need in one place.
jacoozie, the error you're getting indicates that you had a non-stock phone when you flashed the KDZ on an unlocked phone. For this reason, it's no surprise you got this error - the phone must be COMPLETELY STOCK for a stock KDZ flash. I'm guessing you had TWRP or something else installed, which is causing this problem. Once you unlock, you cannot just flash things willy nilly... and generally you don't flash with KDZ unless you're trying to change models (aka Frankenstein) or on the way to a custom ROM.
It sounds like you've done some unlocking rooting... if so, I recommend you start over with the WTF thread, read it VERY CAREFULLY and ENTIRELY and then reflash as instructed there. I'm guessing you may need to go back to KDZ Nougat and then work your way forward. If you have questions, ask in that thread... but you shouldn't have any questions as the thread is VERY complete (been updated all the time with very detailed information, so everything is in there).

Thanks for the reply.
I didnt install TWRP or any recovery tools to my phone. My phone bootloader still locked thou.
I have read the WTF thread but the problem is I cant get into my Download mode.
Ok, what steps are you using to try to get into download mode? Presumably turning off the phone, then holding the volume up button and plugging in the USB cable (other end already connected to a Windows computer), correct? If that doesn't work, can you try other USB cables? Sometimes a bad cable could prevent the phone from going into download mode.

Hey all,
I have a CWM backup of my current rom and have backups of apps and data but am stuck at a bootloop.
As I have read countless articles, it seems my error is because I have a locked bootloader(not actually sure). Though, I only tried to flash
clockcycle's wiped v20d cwm backup file. It failed part way saying it couldn't write to /system.
Since then, I haven't been able to fully enter CWM. just see the red triangle with the droid guy on his back.
I have read Cmahendra's unbricking guide but it doesn't work as I have installed JB and even the tips to unplug, wait 10s and reopen the program to flash again it still won't work. Still stops at 15% saying error connecting to the phone.
There is a similar thread which had this exact problem which said to
use the online method to recover your phone since I had already installed JB. I edited the hosts file to remove the fake offline server and opened up the b2CAppsetup.exe, clicked on customer support,
entered my model LGP769BK and my S/N and it began to start the process and 'analyze' then crashed and said "updating is not possible any longer due to a fatal error while the LG mobile phone software Update"
I've tried to search this out myself and not waste any space but I'm at loss here. If anyone has any help, it would be much appreciated
as I don't have a phone while this is not working.
I've tried all the ways to to hard reset, master reset and still I get the droid guy on his back. I can get to S/w mode like all the other posts say to do but none of those fixes seem to work for me. Am I missing something?
Do I have any options here? I have kind of read that I should just unlock the bootloader but I don't think that applies in my case as I can't turn on my phone fully.
edit: for the online method(LG support tool), it basically cancels when it goes to the 'downloading' phase --> this is what I've seen as most of the answers but doesn't work
Upon further reading,
many seemed to need to replace their u-boot and x-loader
I did so and installed fastboot using Lelus' script here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41768774&postcount=1
I used option 6 which allowed me to flash the u-boot and x-loader from p760(works with my 769 and others as it says in the options) for JB
I'm not sure if I needed this as I don't have an unlocked bootloader.
I'm not sure of commands in fastboot but I ran
fastboot devices and it showed something
I also ran: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
and I put one of my cwm backups in the "yours" folder
After I activate fastboot, it brings me to the C:\fastboot\yours folder
I assume this is for me to put my intended files in but I'm unsure if I should use my cwm backup or something else?
After it flashed the recovery img, I sent a fastboot reboot command
but it still went back to the droid lying down with a red triangle.
As some of you may see, I'm not too great with this but I feel like I'm close. Does anybody have an idea of what I should be doing?
should I flash an update.zip?
I don't know many commands but hopefully this gets me going in the right direction.
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!
I guess your cmw restore formatted your system but couldnt load the new system
the recovery you run with a locked bootloader uses a technique called 2nd init which i think is somewhere stored in the system partition. so when the recovery formatted the system, it lost itself too.
I've had a similar problem. the way out would be booting into the SW upgrade mode--switch off the device, remove the battery, remove the usb cable. press the volume up button and connect the phone to the computer. wait for a couple of seconds and then insert the battery.
you should be in the SW upgrade mode
now use the B2C client. if it gives an option to upgrade, use that otherwise, go to the customer support menu and press recovery phone
I have already done earlier. It may have gotten lost in my frenzy of information. I have put the phone into software mode, as you said, and it won't work either; There's no option to click upgrade because it's JB(V20D) and when I click recovery phone and enter my imei, LG mobile support tool(B2capp.exe) analyzes and then has a 'fatal error'
Since I flashed the new u-boot and x-loader my screens are all backwards/mirrored. Maybe the tool flashed an unlocked u-boot and x-loader if that's possible.
Is a recovery possible by fastboot?
I have a clean and full copy of my cwm recovery as well as apps and data backed up, I just need to get this phone in working order

If you fastboot flash the u-boot and x-loader from p769(ICS) it should go thru with the offline flash detailed in cmahendras guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085344
Use the KDZ_FW_UPD.zip from this thread
Or try this
Remove all of the stuff you have downloaded for this. Download the original B2C client from LG's site and use that

I have the updated kdz fw upd .zip from the unbrick and root thread as well as downloaded a new, official B2C client but they all still hang at the download part during phone recovery.
Tablechair, that did the trick.
Is this because the tool we use to flash for the offline method doesn't recognize the x and u-boot loaderse of JB?
After I installed the ICS boot loaders, my software upgrade mode wasn't mirrored anymore.
I did as tablechair and flashed the V20D.
Does anyone understand why this problem happened in the firstplace? Maybe I didn't get a full copy of clockcycle's backup cwm
or should I have not flashed his recovery in the first place since I didn't have an unlocked bootloader?
Again thank you for all your help and if anyone can provide answers to my other supplemental questions, that'd be great.
Off to root and probably unlock bootloader to be sure.
edit: I can't find the thanks button. but thank you very much tablechair. much appreciated. Hope this can help someone else
p.s. also big thanks to those who made the fastboot program for p769(Artas182x and sguerrini97). really an invaluable tool as I now know.

Things don't always go according to plan, maybe his Clockworkmod backup was made from the touch version and he didn't have artas182x second init recovery installed. So when the cwm failed the first time, did you try to restore your cwm backup?

Do i have to replace my uboot and xloader with the ICS ones every time I want to use the offline flash method?

I realized I misread your question. When I flashed before the incident, it failed to write to system and I didn't restore my other folder. I rebooted and it was all missed up. Anyway, now that I've got everything back and now with an unlocked bootloader, i was able to recover my old image. However, data isn't working so I have to find the radio to flash as I recall reading in other threads.
Can someone explain in laymen terms why this is? recap, i was on unlocked bl rooted jb and I flashed my old cwm backup when I was rooted but had a locked bl. My apps and messages were all there but the radio was different. I'd understand if I was going from ICS to JB but I was on JB both times. The only difference being a locked BL. It's got to be something about the Radio from p760 or V20B that didn't work on my earlier backup or something like that because the layout status bar is different with a "data" button and showing H instead of 4g(which are the same afaik).
Since, I restored to my backup from after my bootloader unlock and root so data is working showing 'H' with the different layout
Also, I had problems backing up and restoring until I noticed that it works better when I power off the phone and do the manual commands to enter recovery as opposed to using the app to send me to recovery(where I incurred /system backup errors).
My last question is which cwm recovery should I use? I currently have the one for a locked bootloader installed as per Artas182x's website. On that post he has a link for an unlocked bootloader recovery on the xda forums but that thread was updated to not working. Are there any disadvantages to me using a locked bootloader cwm recovery?
I don't think I have any option but to try it as I want to flash CM10.1 for p769. I also read that if your bootloader is unlocked, you can download the cwm from the googleplay. If this is true, can I just install over or should I uninstall the Artas182x locked bootloader one????
update: have to remove l9 recovery by deleting the appropriate system folders and then flash the appropriate .img through adb commands
Help.

Although I might be late, I have the same problem and the same phone and I really need help. I have a soft bricked phone lg optimus l9 and I had the same problems that you had exactly... Which is weird exept I don't have Clock Work Mod or anything ... If you get this I would really appreciate some help. Thanks
yup me too
I finally got software upgrade to work with my lg p769 that was security error cuz i still haven't unlocked the bootloader, if i knew what a good job lg and T-Mobile did in locking it i would have waited and got a g3 that my buddy rooted in like 5 min and unlocked the boot....
What worked for me is this LG FLASH TOOL 2014 THREAD ON XDA
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2797190
flashed both the 20H and 20D successfully i uninstalled everything lg in the control panel first though.
Hope this works for you cuz i was struggling on and off for a month to get this far lol
the 2014 tool ultimately worked for me too, once I fixed a couple things. I had rooted and forgotten to unlock, so it was at Security Error, and it would also disconnect at 15% .. in the 2014 tool, I had to install all the updates even though I'm in windows 7 or it would keep doing it. All good now.
I have been trying all these methods and I am still not able to get in the S/W upgrade mode. The only thing I am getting from the device is being able to put it fastboot mode (The inverted one). I really want to revive this phone

Hey, it's been ages since I have done any of this but IIRC, if you can get into fastbood mode u can still get into software mode,
- turn phone into fastboot mode
- open the software upgrader thing as you normally do
- maybe switch emerg to diag or something like that
- this part is where it's slightly different than the normal way(same program but u select a different option than the default 1st option on
I think if yoiu look through the tutorials it does mention an alternative method for getting into software mode
in one instance in my past, i had to reflash the ICS boot drivers so the software installer would recognize that
the flashing of the ICS boot drivers is done through fastboot. Should be a post in my history where I asked a question regarding this.
Sorry for the chaos but maybe this will help you get in the right direction since I don't know any of your phone history and what you've done etc
best of luck mate

Hey, I have been trying it with the fastboot but it keeps timing out and not allowing me to finish. One thing I should let you know is that, ever since I had put the device in fastboot, I am not able to get back the S/W upgrade mode. Dont know if that will help in seeing what my problem is or if you want me to explain everything from the beginning again, I am more than happy to.
Have you followed the steps that I linked to in the first 3 posts of this thread?
Follow the steps to flash the ICS bootloaders in fastboot and then you can do the fastboot trick for getting the software to recognize your device.
Right now your phone has the JB boot loader on it and is thus not recognized by the software.
recap:
step 1: flash the ICS bootloaders in fastboot (look at the linked thread in post 2)
step 2: use the software in emerg or diag mode but sitll follow the same steps as the tutorial. I think my earlier posts should explain precisely.
if you dont flash the ICS bootloaders, it won't be recognized by the KDZ installer
Hi guys,
Just wondering if I can get root without unlocking the bootloader. Seems that I;m hearing that this isn't possible, which makes no sense. I know Verizon is Verizon when it comes to locking things down(They were even blocking free games on dumbphones back in the day so that you would have to buy them, even when the manufacturer included them for free), but it seems that gaining root access is completely different than flashing a new ROM. Am I correct here?
Also, would towelroot work for this phone? I know it's a nice simple solution, but I believe their claim is for phones manufactured before Jun '14.
Lastly, would a solution like Safestrap work here? It's what I used on my last phone (S3), when Verizon locked THAT down.
I know it is a battle fighting Verizon on this, and I know it takes time, I was just wondering if I am reading this right, or if I could root, but run the standard ROM, just with the extra access... Really, the phone is working so well that I just want better control for things like deleting/disabling/freezing stock apps and such.
Thanks for any help!! Sorry if this is in the wrong thread, seemed appropriate.
I am a user of H961N and it is also cannot be rooted.
I think root injection may be the answer.

I think that you may try it and it may work, as the above problem may not due to the phone but my computer.
Where did you get you system.img file? if you are using the one from the g4 it will not work. The file needs to be rooted for your device and then injected.

I'm curious, the 'Fail' just means that it fails to work, right? Phone works fine after that and all? No bricking or need to restore? If so, that's a safe risk. Thanks for the suggestion.

Good luck with this but I have a feeling that unless someone has an exploit laying around, you'll need an unlocked bootloader.

you need an unlocked bootloader
http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-unlock-bootloader-on-lg-v10/
and adb & fastboot tool, not root
To install a custom recovery
http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-install-twrp-recovery-on-lg-v10-h901/
That's how I usually would do it, the way it's described in the articles, since I still have to get my v10 from Far East can't test it.

That's how I usually would do it, the way it's described in the articles, since I still have to get my v10 from Far East can't test it.

What you've mention is only working for tmobile V10, since it's bootloader can be easily unlocked while the other are not.

Thanks for clearing that up. Didn't know that and didn't see that on the article.
Cheers
I think if LG release a genuine ROM file, we could replace recovery parition with rooted one and flash it to our phone, that the only way open but LG hasn't released any ROM file yet.

Sorry, wasn't sure, as I was asking about development.... Sometimes this is like a scene form the movie Big Trouble... At the airport, "Arrivals or Departures"? "Well, we're arriving at the airport, but then we're going to be departing.".
Issue status: Fixed
Issue details: Bricked device with Bootloader locked.

Been flashing roms, wanted to try them out, and before you ask, yes I wipe cache, system, and data before I do a wipe...
But somewhere down the line, rotation stops working, I don't know why, but it just did and wouldnt work in any rom I tried
Eventually Twrp stopped letting me flash new roms giving me excuses like zip verification failure.
Then it stopped letting me flash other zips like verity disable and gapps.
Being basically locked to Havoc wasn't really an option for me so I decided to go the nuclear route and reflash stock rom+recovery which bricked my device but not before wiping my recovery and locking that pesky bootloader. "SYSTEM DESTROYED"
So here I am with a locked bootloader, only access to Fastboot, and what I believe is EDL as it shows up as Qualcomm driver in device manager if I do it right.
I tried using the same flash tool that bricked my device both in Fastboot and EDL, in Fastboot it tells me my device is locked
In EDL it tells me the device is locked and error getting "hello packet"
And when I try to use the unlock tool, it tells me my current account is not bound to the device, even though it used to be. And I don't have a system to go in to make it so again.
So does anyone know how to flash anything around the locked bootloader?
Hi
I do not have much knowledge of xiaomi, just my mi pad 4 ... But from what I read, you must never relock a bootlader already unlock with fastboot ... It almost systematically causes a hard brick
Try the steps did here ?

Doesn't really mention that in the instruction manual. And the flashing tool locks the bootloader anyway and the guides don't mention the bricking issue + anyone that suggests using the flash tool tend to leave that part out, it's only until after I done it and am googling how to undo are people showing up with comments saying "yeah you shouldn't have done that"
Like where were the warnings before?!

Hopefully ill have time to try that tomorrow but thank you so much for a suggestion.
I have put my device in EDL I think, kind of hard to tell with the screen off, but when I attempted the flash, the miflash tool told me sry can't do it cause of a lock.
I'll investigate later if it's anything different than what I tried before.
I definitely want to get it back to working order because I have yet actually got a chance to enjoy using it. The first thing I did was try to flash a rom and it's been downhill of trying to troubleshoot onething after another.
I didn't backup via twrp because I forgot, and I didn't anticipate just how locked down and a pain in the ass Xiaomi devices could be, and in the past on other devices, recovering from a bricked state is usually a more simple process.
Thank god my pocophone has a full miui backup via twrp
My device was bricked and the people credited helped me recover it.
Had to take off the back to put the device into EDL mode.
Used specifically the software /files and instructions provided by devcon69, the patches elf file was key
And the information provided by Lind all helped me more than I thought, particularly the part where he/she said "I waited too long"
So as soon as I opened up miflash tool, I clicked flash as fast as I could, maybe the tool goes through some sort of background security check and clicking flash starts before it finishes (I doubt it) , I don't know...

You helped me out a ton! Tysm!
Congrats
I was trying to unlock the bootloader and root my lg v30 (h931) or at&t v30 using this method https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76584629&postcount=193
I used this method to try to get back to android 8 to root: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg...ssflashing-t3780969/post76510671#post76510671
I used this android nougat version: https://lg-firmwares.com/downloads-file/13784/US99810d_01_0411\
and used the duel patched dev version, I can't find a link I have like 8 million tabs open right now.
What happened:
I was following everything in that guide exactly and got the the point of flashing my phone with android nougat. Everything seemed to be working find and it said it was completed successfully, now my phone isn't detected by my computer at all and my phone will not power on. LG doesn't have a recovery or fastboot mode on the v30 but normall the shortcut to it is volume down and power button and when I do that the lg v30 splash screen comes up and keeps booting over and over. If I try to boot any other way its just completely black and comes up with a not connected screen for like a frame and then goes to black again. there is also a picture but I can't make it out in the one frame It is on screen.
I know I was an idiot for thinking I could root my phone and I am really really regretting it now but if anyone has any ideas I literally will try anything at this point. Thank you so much.
I just found the think on master reset and now I am on android 7.1.2 working. I guess I will try and continue? this has been an emotional rollercoaster

yes sorry, actually im having a new issue that I can't find a solution for anywhere. I followed all the instructions for installing havoc on my lg v30 but it has been at a white spilling loading wheel for about an hour now. I know the first build can take a while but this seems a little extreme
edit, I just ran adb bootloader recovery and now im in TWRP. not sure why that didn't work last time but it worked!

Since you have a former AT&T H931 you did all the extra prep steps necessary to install LOS custom ROM for that model?

I think I really messed up. so the rom in the the post didn't work either so I tried to do a master reset and now I am stuck at the splash screen with that lg logo staring back at me for all eternity. all I can do is enter the master reset menu now but it doesn't do anything. my computer won't see my phone as an adb device right now and I can't enter download mode. the lg tool detects my phone but I can't select it because it is an unknown device. am I just screwed?

Have you tried entering Download mode manually before opening LGUP?
1) Go into download mode (power off completely, then hold volume up button while plugging in USB cable)
2) open patched LGUP and KDZ via REFURBISH. At this point, you would flash US998 Oreo 20h KDZ instead of trying to flash US998 30b Pie. After you recover your phone to 20h Oreo, then you can take another run at US998 Pie if you wish.
3) IF your bootloader is unlocked, it will remain unlocked. However, you will lose TWRP, since you are flashing the full KDZ.
At that point, you will then go through Section 6 of the WTF instructions again to reintall TWRP and root.
pressing the vol - before plugging in, it would show "download mode" for a spit second and go straight to fastboot mode. i cant do anything in fastboot mode since i cant get it to show on "adb devices".
i was just starting to root this V300L30p and managed to flash the h930 to unlock the bootloader. after flashing the unlock bin i waited and held the vol - button as said in the guide but the phone never boot up. i waited 30 mins or so. i tried to get to download mode and reflashed the h930 rom using dual mode LGUP partition dl but it didnt work and i just got "cant open port" i tried refurbish and it also didnt work. i tried master reset and it didnt work in trying to reflash. after a while i just couldnt access the download mode and it just goes too fast to fastboot mode.

OK if your Bootloader is unlocked and you have fastboot, then you don't need Download mode right now.
Install TWRP, root. Follow Section 6 of the WTF instructions.
Later after you restore modem you can worry about Download mode.

another problem arose. now in TWRP. wipe to format data, typed yes, and it returns with red text "failed to mount /system (unknown error 150)". same happens when i try to do a backup.
should i go to advanced wipe and change the file system of /system to others and then back to ext4?
edit: fixed by selecting ext4 in change file system. /system was showing 0mb, after redoing the file system it is now 14mb and able to be backed up

Try a regular Factory Data Reset from the Settings menu, if you haven't already. If the bootloader is locked and the phone never rooted (which it sounds like) it is unlikely that the actual ROM was corrupted - though or course not impossible.
What happens when you try to enter Download mode?
I tried to reset factory in setting and it had no effect. With reset data on recovery, it showed error message.
When i enter the download mode, it show 5 dots.
I have no idea to solve this issue

Are you saying you have TWRP (custom recovery) on your phone? With BL locked?
Factory Reset from Settings menu only works with stock recovery, and goes deeper than TWRP wipe.
If you have TWRP, you can use that to re-flash your ROM (as ZIP) and/or to re-flash laf (Download Mode, either as ZIP or as image).
Otherwise it sounds like Download Mode is there, but LGUP isn't picking it up correctly. I suggest starting over with LGUP. People often have the wrong version, since so many are floating around: Uninstall it completely, delete its folders, possibly uninstall USB driver as well. Restart Windows. Now install drivers and LGUP from scratch using the exact versions and installation steps from ChazzMatt's Pie ROM thread linked below:
[US998][STOCK][PIE]LG V30 US998 US99830b_00_0902.KDZ

If that still doesn't do it, then try different USB port, different cable, even different computer. Some computers are not compatible with LGUP.

Thank you for the update.
I wouldn't recommend that procedure you linked. That post is five years old, for a completely different phone (LG G2), using a KDZ extractor from 2014 which probably doesn't work with today's KDZ files.
I still don't see how your Download Mode could have been damaged on an unrooted phone. I think the problem is most likely your PC or your cable.
But that aside, I say it's time to rip off the bandaid: Unlock the bootloader and put TWRP onto the phone. It's easy on US998. Follow the guide linked below.

As we discussed elsewhere, however, he would need Download mode to go back to the early Oreo firmware is he wanted to bootloader unlock and root.
There have been reports of other people losing Download mode when updating to US998 Pie -- but those were people using the TWRP flashable zip. The fix was to flash US998 20e (Oreo) TWRP flashable zip and for some reason that restored Download mode. They could then try again to update to US998 Pie if they really wished. I haven't see that reported flashing with KDZ.
The fingerprint and camera issue is also reminiscent of a V30 that was on LOS-17 (which needs a permissive kernel). Even when going back to stock firmware, you still have to run permissive. The fix for THAT problem is to refurbish to Nougat stock firmware and then update back to newer stock firmware (last Oreo which is very stable or Pie which has some issues).
But he can't do that either until he gets Download mode back.
I really don't have any suggestions.
Thank you for pointing that out, @ChazzMatt!
@CuDem: ChazzMatt is completely right. I forgot you have to use Download Mode to roll back to 20b in order to use the WTF bootloader unlock trick. Duh... So that's not a path for you to fix this.
To me it sounds like this phone WAS previously BL unlocked and rooted, and that's where the problems with Download Mode began. Or LOS-17 was installed, causing the Camera and Fingerprint issues mentioned. Maybe the previous owner re-locked the bootloader and sold the phone, pretending it was in better shape than it was?
I can think of the following:
1) If you know the history of the phone and that it was never unlocked or rooted before, then I would still say it is unlikely that its laf partition (which contains Download Mode) was actually corrupted. The phone could still have been Frankensteined incorrectly or "abused" with LGUP, but because of very thorough integrity checking when flashing through Download mode, it would rarely cause you to lose Download mode. So if you KNOW it has never been BL unlocked, I would continue trying on a different computer, with different cables, different USB ports, drivers etc. If fastboot devices returns a serial number, that's a good test that USB drivers and ADB connection is working. But you could still have LGUP issues. Again, some computers (particularly some AMD processors) are simply not compatible with LGUP.
2) See if you can find the OTA update file for US99830b and force update it using LGUP FOTA mode. This works with the phone booted into the OS and MTP (file sharing) turned on. It may not complete the update since you are already on 30b, but it will rewrite laf (Download mode) as its first step. Several H932 owners have done that back in the Oreo days, and a few have done it on Pie. Study the thread linked below for the background and the procedure. But DO NOT use the files shared in that thread, NOR ANY OTHER H932 FILES. You will brick your phone if you flash anything H932 on any other model, or vice versa.
[H932][T-MOBILE] URL for the H932 Pie OTA file
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/help/h932-url-h932-pie-ota-file-t3991417
3) Use Qualcomm 9008 mode and the leaked firehose to rewrite the laf partition (or the entire firmware). This is a more complex procedure, which I cannot help you with, but it allows writing almost anything to the phone, and should be compatible with all V30 models EXCEPT H932. See the thread linked below, and be ready for some hard work:
LG V30 Unbrick guide (Qualcomm EDL 9008 Mode, Hardbirck, with no download mode)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/lg-v30-unbrick-guide-qualcomm-edl-9008-t4048661
4) Contact the XDA member from Moldova who can repair your V30 remotely for a fee. His name always escapes me, but maybe Chazz or others remember. He is also on eBay:
Remote Service Repair Unbrick LG G7 G6 V30 V35 V40 in Qualcomm Mode 9008
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Remote-Ser...794311?hash=item46994ee187:g:gd0AAOSw0qFdJi7a
And that's all I can think of. Once again, please report the outcome back here, as it may help others. Good luck to you
Edit: Oh, and then there is Update Error Recovery on the Update tab in LG Bridge, which has worked for some to fix Download mode. It also runs from inside the OS (at least initially). But I am not sure LG Bridge works with US998, let alone on Frankenstein'ed phones. Still, it's easy, so worth a try.
