Recently I watched HDR film and this issue is really annoying. Dark scenes lack much detail. Does the solution for this issue exist?
P.S. I have latest firmware available.

I've noticed that pictures I take using the camera flash in low lighting comes out dull and brownish even though the viewer shows a bright image before taking the picture.
Yet turning off the flash produces better but unsatisfactory images. I just returned from a holiday where I had to use the HTC Desire HD which consistently produced far superior pictures in low light conditions. Anyone know what settings that could improve this?
I had the same problem before. I solved it by cleaning the lens with some LCD solution and a microfibre cloth.
I've noticed on hands-on videos that the Droid DNA has a blue tint on white backgrounds. Some reviewers have also mentioned this and the cooler nature of the colors. Another thing I've noticed is the colors seem less vibrant compared to the One X, which was more colorful and warmer. The blue tint was the first thing I noticed while all these review videos were extolling the greatness of the PPI. The blue tint on galaxy phones drives me batty, and this one might not be that different. Do you see the blue tint on your phones? My local Verizon store only has dummies. I might just wait for the Oppo Find 5. I really like how the screen looks on that phone.
One X was uncomfortably warm for me. Too yellow which I didnt like.
DNA is little more colder but colours still pop nicely. Much better contrast compared to One X that I had. It is right balance between what we have seen with One X and SMOLED display that my Note 2 has.
There is definitely no trace of the typical blue tint you see in AMOLED displays. It is definitely whiter than SGS3 and Note 2. But not as yellow as One X. It is perfect actually. You can never judge screen seeing videos. Choice of wallpaper, camera sensor and room lighting play huge role in how things look on camera. There is no doubt in my mind, this is best display I have ever seen on Mobile. PERIOD.
Maybe many reviewers are coming from One X which was considered to have best 720P display. But frankly for me it was too yellow to be natural.
Thanks for your reply. I have to disagree with you about not using videos to judge a display though. Every phone I've bought looks exactly like how I've seen it in videos. There are poor quality or off-color videos of course, but those are very easy to notice and disregard. With high quality videos, especially when you have the phone next to other devices that you've used and know how they should look, there's no room to blame the video. Apple's displays always look so good because they calibrate it properly. HTC and others need to take a hint. At least provide calibration software onboard if you don't want to do it manually for each device.
I've had a few replacements of the DNA for various issues and I noticed that they all had slightly different calibration profiles with whites of two of them being slightly red tinted and the others being either slightly blue tinted or in the case of the one I currently have, closer to neutral but the colors appear to be slightly less vibrant. They're all over the map, so I think it's just the luck of the draw. One thing I have found consistent is poor backlighting with shadowing on different edges of the screen on different units, especially the bottom (near the capacitive buttons). The pixel density and size is definitely phenomenal, but I miss the balanced calibration and completely even backlighting (to the edges) of my 4s.
No blue tint here.

Hi all,
I have a H930DS, I use it to watch some videos and do some reading late at night when kids are in bed.
To watch videos, I use mxplayer and set luminosity inside it at 2/16 (lower is way too dark, higher gets too bright as I'm in the dark),
been doing that (same software, same brightness setting) for few years with my galaxy tab S and my axon 7.
These 2 devices are definitely different but same video on both devices look very much the same (some decoding artefacts are different though) regarding colours/brightness/contrast.
With my H930DS, it's definitely not the same, with mxplayer and brightness 2/16, contrast is completely wrong, dark areas get just plain black, bright areas seem brighter than my other 2 devices.
To be able to see anything in those dark areas, I have to increase brightness at least at 8/16, but then the bright areas get really too bright to watch in the dark.
This also happens with other video player, I tried a few os from @SGCMarkus (LOS15.1, DU, dotos, RR), also boombox 1.3, stock (both oreo and 21a, 21h latest nougat).
It is always the same, the less worse is using boombox or stock with the setting option 'HDR effect for videos' enabled, screen is still too dark but noticeably less.
Someone else experienced the same or am I just stuck with some wrong display?
Anyone knows of a (recent) video player where contrast/brightness can be customised?
Is there something that could be done in kernel or at higher level in android?
I'm quite mitigated regarding screen issue as I have none of the usually reported issues with V30's screen (banding, discolouration)
thanks in advance for your feedback

Have you tried VLC? I think you can customize video setting like contrast and stuff also
I tried vlc but it has no contrast control on android.
The thing is viewing videos in low brightness was always ok,
I also tested my wife's galaxy A5 2017 along my 2 older devices,
all of them ok, only my v30 is definitely not ok
Hey,
I've just bought a V30 today after my Nexus 5 started to have some issues to hardly use it as a daily driver.
After spending some time on it, I've noticed that the display is quite blured if you look close to it (it can be seen mostly on white backgrounds). It looks like watching a 480p image on a 1080p display in full screen. Everything seems to have lower resolution than it should have (note that I've tried to adjust brightness and resolution but it seems to be hardware related)
Is this normal? Is it like this for all oled displays?
Thank you for your answers

Are you talking about grainy looking? That happens on very white backgrounds in my experience. Shouldn't be blurry though. Any chance you are able to take a picture of what you are talking about specifically

Yes something like grainy, mostly noticeably on 50% brightness and white backgrounds but also on other colours (like there is a another layer between the oled screen and a display). Should I sent it back ?
@Klyno
From what I've read on the matter it seems to be just an inherent "quirk" for the V30s P-OLED display (kind of like the "Blue-shift" effect that happens when viewing the screen at a certain angle and beyond). There was a thread on here somewhere about the display that some people mentioned this. You can try exchanging but I'm not sure it will help. Maybe someone else can chime in ( @ChazzMatt frequents the V30 forums quite often so I'm sure he can direct you to the right thread). Maybe try the display thread under real reviews category

Hello RXT Users,
I bought a new Realme XT (6GB,64GB, Pearl White) Mobile, which works like a beast.
But within a week, I accidently noticed that the true deep blacks of Amoled display actually kills the surrounding Grey colour pixels especially in videos (or moving frames).
When I using Instagram, Samsung just posted some photos. when I try to swipe one photo horizontally, I noticed that the gradient colours (White to black) are like vanished some time and and a bluish shade is appearing btw the blacks and whites.
Then I started comparing this with other LCD panel, which is not doing these weird things. I also did a side by side comparison btw Realme XT and other LCD display by playing a dark horror movie. The results came was not expected.
First things first, the picture quality, colours, contrast and viewing angles are awesome in Amoled display, But the grey coloured details which are nearer to the black pixels are missing, they are completely gone.
Example:
• Original frame in the movie - A dark room with cupboards and interior.
• Picture shown in LCD display - white blushed dark room with cupboards and interior.
• Picture shown in Realme XT - A Deep Dark Black room with no interiors no cupboards or even no walls.
I can't understand why the Amoled display takes more time when pixels changes from black to grey colours, may it's because of low refresh rate.
Can anyone please tell the display refresh rate of Realme XT and try the above tests to clarify that I am not the only one who got these weird thing. Thanks in advance.
Note: I am using Amoled display for the first time.
This is quite disturbing to know. I was planning on buying XT and returning my Poco armoured, as it has ghost touch issues and I don't need that much processor power for daily usage.
Also, with XT getting started on development I hope I won't miss Poco. But with the above-mentioned issue, I'm getting skeptical because my primary reason to get XT was AMOLED display. I don't want to get disappointed by it.
Although it doesn't has ambient display and dark mode yet but I hope it'll be there in future updates.

After reading this post I checked my xt's display for the greys in dark scenes with my le 2 LCD display and I'm pretty satisfied. I was able to see most of the details of dark scenes that was visible on the other phone. Plus I found it's very vibrant as compared to the le 2 and brightness level is also much better.
