NFC - Near Field Communication doesn't work - OnePlus Nord N10 5G Questions & Answers

I can't read my passport NFC chip.
I have checked NFC is on and tried to reset App-preferences in Apps and Notifikations/See all apps/Appinfo and rebooted the device.
Furthermore I have downloaded a NFC reader app NFC Tools. With this app I am not able to read the NFC chip. I have tried other of my families passport. Not able to read the NFC chip. What can you recommend doing to get the NFC to work?

I'd try a different app. NFC reader worked for my phone (PH-1) but many nfc apps did not work.

NFC works on my N10, tested using Beam from another device.
You should try that too, it's more reliable than a 3rd party app

NFC Tags able to disable Security?

Is it possible to program a NFC tag to disable security on our phones? I'm thinking it's a no but it would be nice to be able to walk into my house, tap the tag and never have to put in my pattern. Then when I leave tap it again to turn in on to keep my friends out or anyone if I lost it.
It doesn't seem like the Samsung NFC app or NFC Task Launcher can do this.

My guess is it would have to be an application that has root privileges in order to accomplish this. COuld be an interesting use for NFC. I used to use an application in my PC that would listen for my Phone's B to pair with my desktop and unlock/lock my PC. I specifically used to as an automatic way to lock my desktop when I walked away from my desk with my phone.
BUMP!
This seems like a great idea. Try PhoneWeaver. I use it to do alot of those things. Its more of a profile changer
I used to use Unlock with WIFI however it says I can't use a pattern lock anymore since the last update and doesn't seem to play well with ICS either. I'll take a look at that Phone Weaver though.

NFC on LG G Stylo on Boost Mobile

I just "upgraded" my phone from the Kyrocera Icon and this phone is very frustrating, it has more storage, but somehow I can't load as many apps on to it and apps like Facebook and twitter aren't preloaded. I can work around that, but my biggest issue is.... Google wants to give me a free chrome cast for using Android Pay and.... it's incompatible with my device. NFC is not supported on my device.
That is unforgivable, it makes little to no sense. I googled and the T-mobile model seemingly supports it, what's preventing me from using it? Not to mention one of the Smart Lock features is NFC unlock, which instead of "on body unlock" I was planning on turning on and using my NFC bus pass in my wallet to keep it unlocked.

Mate 10 Pro rooting questions

Hi, I would like to root my mate 10 pro and have already tried using FHMate10tool but this resulted in not being able to use themes and google pay which I would like to still be able to use. Is there any way to root the device without taking away functionality that it's supposed to have? I want to be able to utilise the NFC capabilities so that I can store all of my NFC charging cards and Student ID on the phone but this needs root. I have considered the Magisk root. Will this remove any functionality from the device if I use that? Will google music and Google photos still work as they should? Will updates work etc?
Mark.

No, with Magisk Root you will not loose any functionality.

Barclays Bank App contactless payments.

After the recent update to the Barclays app it doesn't seem to stay open in the background so you can't use contactless unless you log into the app everytime. Am I missing a setting in the phone somewhere?

If you go into settings/battery/app launch you can remove that app from battery optimization and allow it to stay open in the background. That might work--I'm not familiar with the Barclays app.
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately that's how I got it to work originally before they updated the app. That doesn't seem to work now though.
I have the same problem and the latest app version. However jhs39 is correct for the fix. Go into settings>Battery>App Launch select the Barclays App so that it is "Managed Manually", you can leave all three options enabled. You will then need to login to the app once more. You should then be working. I think the issue is that the app want's to have an active process running but the battery manger sweeps it up as it is not recognised and using power!
The really bad thing about this app is that if you reboot your device (or it loses power - battery drain) you will have to remember to re-login each time..... Google Pay and Amex Pay do not have this problem - poor app.

Some people may call that a useful security feature that is missing from Google Play & mex Pay
Working fine now. I had changed some other settings to allow it to run but not these ones. Thank you

You have to jump through enough security hoops to get the card into the NFC chip but I'm all up for security. My point is that this is a poor app because it relies on an unprotected process and when it does fail it comes up with ERROR CM057 which is not really helpful. Furthermore no-one in Barclays can tell you what it means. A better response would be "Please login to complete the transaction" or your "Login Details have expired". So yes this is a poorly written app that Google and Amex do not suffer from.
After discussing the issue with them on Google Play and being asked to be some sort of QA Tester for their broken app that they use in lieu of better contactless options I just gave up and transferred my account to another bank. I can now use Google Pay, problem solved.
How does contactless payments work through the phone? On my iPhone, I would double press the home button to get my list of cards up. I have a Barclays and Tesco card - both of which, do not support Google Pay. 'Doh!!
Do you remember which settings you tweaked to get it to work?
I tried the battery management settings and it is unchecked so it is managed manually with all 3 other options that pop up left switched on but I'm still having the same problem, ever since I had my P20 Pro in fact. When I got my 2nd Mate 20 Pro (1st was replaced for the gluegate issue), it worked once and one other time when I tried switching NFC off and back on but apart from that it hasn't worked since.
I wish Barclays would just ditch this "feature" and allow Google Pay to add Barclay's cards. It's so frustrating standing at the check out trying to get it to work, opening the app, logging in so your balance is there for everyone to see, exiting the app etc. etc. and then it still doesn't work for me and I have to end up going through my wallet to find my card anyway. It won't even work for me on the pay screen with the 30 second countdown!

Is it possible to block an apps access to all sensors on my phone?

I use an app called Torque Pro in the car to monitor all the vehicle sensors on my car via the OBD2 adapter, but Torque is also using my phones G-sensors, gyroscope, barometer etc constantly while it's open. Basically any phone sensor on my S5 G900F, it's using it all the time, but app permissions don't seem to give me an option to block this. Neither does the built in AppOps in my ROM. All I care about is my car sensors, not my phone sensors. I am currently trying to get a really efficient ROM and kernel setup in regards to battery life, but also want to be able to use my phone as normal and this needless access to my sensors would be a significant drain on the battery. Are there any apps/tools out there that can allow me to achieve this? I don't want to block all apps from accessing these sensors, just Torque's ability to constantly poll the sensors. tia
It is possible but you have to be rooted...

I am rooted. I found the sensor disabler xposed app, but that seems to disable all apps from accessing the sensors. It is however considered a Tasker plugin so I could probably make a script to only block sensors when Torque is running. I thought it would be part of the OS's app permissions as a rogue app could still get beneficial information from the sensors unrestricted.
