Actually I would really like to run Automotive OS on a tablet since the form factory would be then be closed to touch displays in modern cars.

Is it possible to port ios 4 or 5 to make it work to dualboot ios 4/5 and android 3.2.1 on an android tablet? (like my "TF101" )

iOS is closed source, it's tightly coupled with Apple's hardware, anyone who attempts to install it on non-Apple hardware is going to get sued by them.
Android is portable because it's open source, anybody can get the source and tweak it to their liking.
If you want iOS, get an iPad or whatever.

I want to get ipad, but lack to its price, tiny storage, poor cpu i stick with android.
But istead of porting ios to android.

It isn't clear to me that the Ubuntu phone will actually be a "linux distro" - at least not in the sense that most think of them (Android runs Linux, after all). But, details seem to be scarce.
Plus, applications built for a mouse aren't going to be ideal even on a tablet. Otherwise we wouldn't have all those apps for services that are already web-based (including, ironically enough, xda).

Yes, I agree the new Ubuntu for mobile devices won't exactly be like its desktop predecessors. I was referring to what I've seen on other tablet development forums, such as the Asus TF300T running an Arch Linux ARM natively as a dual boot with Android. Would it be "ideal" on a touch screen tablet? Certainly not; but it wouldn't be completely unusable. Besides, I think that's why many of us are on xda in the first place. Because we're not content with running vanilla stock ROMs with our hands held out to to the manufacturers for fixes and upgrades.
Like the sound of this but only as a dual boot option for now.

I RDP .....*A LOT*...... from my N10 to my various Linux boxes now.... this would be a very welcome thing for me.
And.... to have another player in the mobile game would only be a good thing for us all.
Also, as the native apps are mosly C or C++, it would be interesting to see how much faster they would run.
Hey XDA! This is my first post so bear with me...
Recently Acer announced their new Tegra K1 Chromebook and I have to say it's pretty intriguing. I really want to buy one, my only problem being Chrome OS. Don't get me wrong, I love it, it's just not robust enough for me. I want to really make use of the K1 by playing more high end games like ones for Android that are more optimized for it. Touchscreen not being a huge issue here. I'd use a PS3 controller of course. Plus with all the apps already developed for the Droid platform it makes a lot more sense than web based Chrome OS.
So, question time.....
Do you think it would be possible to install KitKat or maybe even Android L Beta on a system like this? I have researched it a little and the Tegra uses ARMv7 architecture. I don't know a whole lot about what that means, but as far as I understand it's 64-bit not 32. Does that mean I would have to use a special KitKat OS on this? Also how in the world would I go about doing this? I have successfully installed Ubuntu (I think 12.04) on an older Samsung Chromebook which dual boots both Ubuntu and Chrome OS; however, I am not sure that the steps involved would be the same. Seeing as how this is a fairly new device, Google is of no help whatsoever....

Yes, something related to better hardware support (Cpu, gpu, sound, etc), speed optimization (maybe remix based on marshmallow), interface polishing, better mouse touch simulation, Ubuntu style installer support native Linux disk partitions and others, more languages (spanish!), etc.

We'll have Android N - I am personally waiting for official Google support for desktops.
We will also have Android apps in Chrome OS - again, a great desktop operating system.
So at this point Remix OS is really heading towards redundancy but anyway - I would still like to switch my desktop to Android sooner
Definately legacy hardware support/compatability. While it's nice to see our newer machines fly, it would be nice to get some of our old working hardware running relatively well without the usual hour glass watching we get in standard desktop os's.
Recently I finally decided to change my car's headunit from a simple plain FM/CD player to something more new.
I was exploring the Android head units and the chinese headunits available in Amazon and Ebay and via my endless Google searches I stumbled upon a "Tablet variation" of a headunit system from the Android Authority guides. That was all I wanted and so I decided to go for the cheap route and choose the tablet method, as I want something that has the full Android experience but at the same time use my tablet at home.
I already have the most parts at hand, like the audio amplifier from my old radio unit (thank god I chose Alpine 8 years ago) and the cables needed to carry out such a project. I intend to use a Joycon EXR to control audio and app usage from my steering wheel.
Anyways, my question is, is there a ROM that uses Google's Android Automotive OS (not Android Auto App), the full Android Automotive OS variant? I know it may be difficult to actually produce such a ROM as only recently Google, released the APIs for developers. Or is there an Android ROM flavour that is minimal/light but at the same time offers the experience of the Automotive OS? I don't want to resort to the available Android launchers designed for such purposes, nor Android Auto, for the obvious reason of spending some time doing something that is fun and challenging. Apart from that, it is a project so any suggestions, ideas and help is greatly appreciated.

You can compile Android Automotive from the AOSP source.
