What is KNOX?
"Knox is a new security feature that is being offered with certain Samsung handsets. It helps you to securely separate your personal and professional data. Essentially, you can have the benefits of using a ‘work phone’ without the need to carry, and secure, a separate device." -blog.clove.co.uk

What is a Custom Recovery?
A custom recovery is a third-party recovery environment. Flashing this recovery environment onto your device replaces the default, stock recovery environment with a third-party, customized recovery environment. This is a bit like flashing a custom ROM like CyanogenMod  but, instead of replacing your device’s Android operating system, it replaces the recovery environment.

What is Download Mode?

What is a Kernel and a custom Kernel?
KERNEL: "The kernel is kinda like the nervous system of the body. It directly interacts with the hardware (which is how it is able to adjust CPU speed) and it is what allows the ROM to function." - @bassmadrigal
CUSTOM KERNEL: A custom kernel is a modified kernel which can have more features like: undervolting, overclocking, more governors, more frequencies, double tap to sleep etc.

How to flash / reflash Stock ROM?
Method with ODIN
1) Download and install the proper DRIVERS for your phone (it should be done automatically when you connect the phone to the PC).
2) The phone should have at least 50% battery!
3) Download ODIN program. I'm using v3.09.
4) Download the stock rom for your J500xx model from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/search/Galaxy j5/ .
You can use SamFirm or Updato to download faster: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647 .
5) Extract ODIN archive and run it (.exe file).
6) Extract the stock rom .zip archive and you will get a xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.tar.md5 file (xxxxxxxxxx= name of the stock rom)
7) Restart the phone in DOWNLOAD MODE, by holding Power + Home + Volume down buttons same time.
A "Warning" window will apear, now press the "vol up" button to get "DOWNLOAD MODE" and conect the phone to the pc
If the ODIN see the phone, on the "ID:COM"line(midle-left) you will see "0:[COMx]"(x= port number)
8) On the ODIN press "AP" button, a window will apear, search in it the location of the xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.tar.md5, select it and open.
9)Now press "START" button and wait until ODIN finish.
When it finish, the phone will boot automatically and in ODIN will apear a big green PASS.

Open the Samsung Smart Switch, click on "More" (top-right corner), then click "Emergency software recovery and initialization" (first option), then "Device initialization" (second tab).
Enter model name, to find your phone model name, remove the back cover and battery, and find and type your phone model name on (top of) the sticker, then the serial number ((S/N) bottom of the sticker).
Click OK (3 times), put back your battery and back cover.
Enter in "DOWNLOAD MODE" (press and old Volume Down+Home+Power at same time), them (When "Warning" screen appeas) press Volume Up, connect your USB Cable, and press click OK.
After the update is complete, disconnect the USB cable, and wait, after finish the installation just follow the instructions on your phone.

How to ROOT:
Method with SuperSU by Chainfire
Make sure you've installed the custom recovery presented above.
If you didn't flash it yet, then go and flash it.
Download SuperSU by Chainfire (stable releases).
Go to recovery by holding Power + Home + Volume UP buttons.
Install SuperSu .zip file ( browse to the directory where is located and choose it).
Now, you can verify if root is working (it should) by installing Root Checker from Google Play.
That's it.

How to flash a Custom Rom:
Every Custom Rom has it's own topic (thread) where you can find the instructions to flash it, presented by the developer of the rom.Is recommended to use that instructions.
Make sure you've installed the custom recovery TWRP before flashing a custom rom!
Instructions used to flash custom roms in general:
1)Download the rom and put it on your External SD Card ( make sure you have enough space).
2) Power off the phone and boot it in the recovery by holding Power + Home + Volume UP buttons.
3) Choose "WIPE" and then "Advanced WIPE", choose /system, /data, /dalvik, /cache, Android_Secure.
4) Go to main menu and choose "INSTALL", then select the rom .zip from the partition internal/external-sdcard (where is located the rom.zip), and then "SWIPE" to install.
5) The install process begin and you'll wait until it finish. Then select "Wipe cache/dalvik".
6) Reboot the phone and enjoy!

How to do / restore a Nandroid Backup (BACKUP PHONE):

4. Transfer the Nandroid Backup to a computer
Now, depending on how many apps and files you installed, your backup might take away quite some space. To avoid that, you can transfer the whole Nandroid backup to your computer and delete it on your device. Should you ever need to restore your device, you only need to transfer it back.
TWRP:
Connect your device to your computer and go to the TWRP folder on your device. In there, a folder containing your backup can be found. If you have several on your device, they will be separated so that you can choose only the folder you need. After you successfully copied the folder, you can delete the one on your device.
5. Restore your device using your Nandroid backup
That’s an easy one as well. Simply boot into recovery, select “Restoreâ€.
Now you can choose the backup you want to use and restore your device. Once that’s finished, reboot your device and you’re done!

There is no custom kernel for Marshmallow.
Furthermore, the overclock has been removed from cm sources to reduce the battery drain and phone heat.
The phone its smooth enough without overclock

Welcome to Jaguar Oreo 8.1. As some may know, the emphasis of this project is on Security and Performance. I have recently transitioned from Lenovo Zuk Z2 plus to Oneplus 5 (and previously from Sony Xperias). This rom is actively maintained, and I don't intend to abandon it until Pie becomes stable and feature rich. You are welcome to visit Z2 thread for user feedback: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-zuk-z2/development/jaguar-oreo-8-1-official-t3734597. A few people asked me to build for Oneplus 5T. Here it is. Although, I don't have Oneplus 5T, the rom has been successfully tested by @punit1708. So, everything works.
In addition to most, if not all, familiar Oreo features starting from multiple options in statusbar, navbar, QS, gestures etc. to alarm blocker, wakelock blocker, smart pixels and omni features (I am not going to list all of them), you will have the following:
1. Hardened/fortified bionic (over 150 commits) to prevent bad behavior by system and third party apps.
2. Many classes and resources are NOT pre-loaded or compiled during boot. Instead, they are compiled after the initial startup and put in ram and cache. So, after initial settling, you will have increased speed in almost everything: interface transitions, app startup time, etc. . In addition, it takes 4-5 seconds to fully boot, after Oneplus logo ends (initial boot after flashing will obviously take longer).
3. Most runtime permissions are limited to 'read only'.
4. FBE encryption is replaced with FDE, and it is not forced. Plus, you can have separate passwords, one longer for boot and another short one for screen lock. I, personally, don't like FBE. I think it is weaker than FDE. Also, I don't want my device to boot at all or be partially decrypted, unless I enter boot password.
5. Many additional security features are enabled in kernel. Kernel is based on DU for Oneplus 5 (the work on it just started).
6. Yama security to replace Selinux.
7. Wireguard support in kernel
8. DNS over TLS
9. Background WIFI scanning is hard-disabled
10. Type zero sms: phone's silent response 'received and processed' (without user noticing) eliminated. If you don't know what type zero sms is, Google it. Not class zero sms, which flashes on screen, but doesn't get saved, but rather type zero, which doesn't show at all, but nonetheless is silently acknowledged. Creepy.

12. Overclocked little CPU to 2035200 and big to 2592000 by default (which you can adjust, if you don't like it, in Kernel Adiutor)
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Be on 5.1.4 firmware
2. IF YOU ARE ENCRYPTED, YOU MUST DO FACTORY RESET IN TWRP (you will have to type 'YES' for factory reset). THIS WILL RESULT IN ALL DATA INCLUDING INTERNAL SD BEING ERASED!!!. So, transfer the contents to your PC. If you are decrypted, you may skip this step. You may think you are decrypted, but make sure that it is in fact so: check in Settings/Security. If it says phone encrypted, you must do factory reset in TWRP.
3. After factory reset, reboot in TWRP and format manually system/dalvik-cache/data/internal SD (again), as TWRP apparently leaves some remnants of encryption after factory reset.
4. Transfer the rom, Gapps, Magisk and whatever else you need to internal card; flash the rom; flash Gapps (optionally) and reboot
5. Go back to TWRP and flash Magisk (optionally). Why not flash Magisk right away? Because Gapps need to run once before Magisk to get appropriate permissions

How to encrypt the phone:
The rom has FDE, instead of FBE, and it is not forced. So, you will be decrypted, unless you encrypt. You don't need to flash 'no verity', if you want to stay decrypted - just don't encrypt.
You can encrypt within Settings, but the preferred way is to do it via ADB. This way, you could have 2 separate passwords one longer for boot and another shorter for screen lock. YOU MUST HAVE MAGISK INSTALLED FOR ADB method to work.
1. Set up a short screen lock pin/password/pattern
2. Enable ADB in Developer settings
3. Connect the phone to your PC. Open terminal (on PC) and type adb devices to make sure that the phone is listed
4. Type adb shell and press enter; type su and press enter - at this point, you should have Magisk prompt (on the phone) for root; grant it for at least 20 minutes - the prompt on terminal should change to root
Now the fun part:
5. type vdc cryptfs enablecrypto inplace password "your actual password" and press enter
WARNING: No quotation marks anywhere in terminal, and don't type the words 'your actual password', but rather your chosen password. There is no limit on the length of boot password.
The phone will reboot and start encrypting. In about 10-15 minutes, you will get a familiar prompt for boot password. After the first password input, the phone might not fully boot (it happened to me). In this case, just force-shutdown and reboot.
After encrypting, you will lose root. So, re-flash Magisk. Otherwise, you might have kernel panic, due to Magisk not being able to find your lockscreen pin..
P.S. You can also do the same on phone's Terminal. In this case, skip 'adb shell' and start with 'su'. But in my experience, if you make a slight mistake with the password, you won't be able to boot, and you will have to do factory reset in TWRP, which will result in the loss of all data. On PC, you can still see the password you set and boot the phone

Rom is very smooth.. Butter like.. Just need to keep it for some cycles about the Battery life it gives.. Have kept all default settings for now.. As you have mentioned there is some overclock done so we can also lower it for some battery efficiency right?

No idea about stock: had it on the phone for 2 minutes - to boot and unlock bootloader.
the instructions are like this (I used a USB stick)
factory reset
restart twrp
format dalvik cache system etc.
flash rome gapps 8.1 nano or stock?
flash magisk etc

No its not treble just follow the instructions mentioned & you are good to go..
Just a sample of battery life on 1st day usage.. Im pretty amazed on the first cycle..

is the battery good and lasting long?
Not working for me. After installation and restart boot logo "MI" is on the screen but no further action
dont know is it a bug but i cant select high precision in location settings , by default it is set to device only but when i try to select high precision it switches back to gps only....and i get error 4001 when trying to download themes (didnt flash the adittional zip for china themes). Awsome ROM btw!!

Hwy.. about gps high precision..its a setting..
Go to location settings and give location rights to Google location services
About themes.. some Themes are available.. some others doesn't..if you want more Themes go with China's version zip

Fingerprint is snappy, no bugs untill now ... as for battery life mine is on about 85 % health and i'm currently explorig the ROM all the time but it seems good .... Hello, I'm using rom is great so far, except for a problem that miui has in the Chinese version that does not allow the use of unlicensed launchers. I did a research and saw that this does not happen in the global version of miui, is there any way to circumvent this?

Normally lock screen can be changed..
Maybe is temporarily issue.. Try to flash Chinese Themes zip and try again..
You can reverse back any time you want..

There is a workaround for this..
I have made up to 10.000flashes testing my builds and i have faced this twice..
After to Many tries with Qfil kernel's etc finally I've found tge trick accidentally..
Flash clean my EUI30S-V17 ALL Formats including internal storage... with my TWRP 3.2.1-1 with tools..
Then go ti fingerprint settings abd make fingerprint calibration (lower setting)
for many times..uo to 15... after 12 time usually working..
Then flash any other rim you want and enjoy..
This worked for me twice so far.

I've been using Aosp Extended without any issue with the fingerprint. As long as my I'm using my Le Max 2 as a backup phone, I will try your solution as soon as possible and let you know.

Unfortunately I had to install it too, I tested the Nova Launcher and the Smart Launcher, none worked. I hope you have some way around this

Thank you for sugestion but it didnt work ... flashed chinese themes and i can download and apply themes but lockscreen and icons remain unchanged ... if I try to apply it through gallery i get message (translated) : wallpaper applied , cannot apply lockscreen wallpaper ... shame i love dark walls and 4 now im stuck with default one .... still loving ROM allthough

Then something doesn't installed right. On my phone available Themes working and lock screen change normally.. anyway.. thanks for your reply..

here you can find my version for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 LTE on LineageOS 19.1.
This is a beta build, also from the LineageOS side, there are typical functions still missing, so don't install it if you want a completely stable and completed ROM and don't report my already listet bugs!
Attention:
Sometimes it needs another reboot to find the sim card.
When you have BitGapps installed, you have to reflash them after every update!
This ROM is only tested with N7105, so maybe you could to give me a feedback if it does or does not work with all the different Note 2 LTE variants.

You could use a gps.conf from https://app.box.com/s/w57s1v1n3hie7l5lk28i for your location and replace /vendor/etc/gps.conf.
Or you try GPS Server Optimizer app for a faster 3D fix.
For both methods you need root rights.
I would recommend to use microG instead of BitGapps,
here you can find the installation instructions:

Download Magisk 24.1 and flash it via TWRP (yes, flash the APK file), reboot
Open Magisk and update the App (and do a reboot if it's asking)
Enable Zygisk in Magisk
Download and install microG installer in the Magisk manager, reboot
Download and install safetynet-fix in the Magisk manager, reboot
Check with a safetynet checker app and you should pass

Samsung seems to use differen't partition tables for these devices,
so far we know a t889, I317 and maybe other devices != n7105 are having a too small HIDDEN (for us vendor) partition.
So if you're facing problems like here
Getting "E2001: Failed to update vendor image." during clean flash.

thanks for this i cant install via twrp magisk
phone is stuck on samsung galaxy boot logo when booting. Boots normally for the first time after flashing. I installed magisk via twrp before booting for the first time. Then i updated magisk and it told me to reboot the phone. Phone is stuck on samsung galaxy boot logo. Twrp opens normally. I have waited for 25 minutes and nothing is happening, took the battery out and it have not changed anything. After wiping the phone and installing for the second time nothing changed.

I guess because Magisk reflashed itself.
Boot into TWRP, delete the /data/adb folder with the file manager.
Reboot into TWRP and reflash the ROM, now the kernel should be unpatched and it should boot up again.

Installation procedure
IS MANDATORY TO BE ON ANDROID 13 FW BEFORE FLASHING ThinROM !!!
0) Backup ALL your important files to PC, ext drives, etc
1) Download and copy the latest ThinROM zip into your external storage or USB stick if you're on stock fw encrypted
2) Download GWB1 stock FW for your phone model using Frija or Samfw and unpack it on your PC
3) Boot in download mode (Vol Up + Vol Down + plug the USB cable connected already to PC) and load up Odin on PC
Don't use USB adapters otherwise you might get issues flashing FW in Odin
Turn off Auto Reboot in Odin
4) Select files BL, AP, CP & HOME_CSC (keep data)
**do not start flash yet
5) Download latest compatible TWRP for your specific device from the official TWRP xda thread (link above), rename it to recovery.img. Download the patched vbmeta.img file from above and rename vbmeta.img. Using 7Zip app add the 2 files (recovery.img and vbmeta.img) into a .tar file.
6) Add the above twrp + vbmeta patched.tar file into the USERDATA slot in Odin
7) Uncheck the auto reboot option in Odin and start the flashing
8) When flashing completes (keep usb plugged in !!!), hold Vol Down + Power buttons and then as soon as the screen goes black hold Vol Up + Power buttons to boot to recovery
*be warned first time you boot into recovery it will initialize and then reboot so just keep the buttons Vol Up + Power buttons pressed longer
**if you boot in stock FW, your data will be encrypted and you'll need to wipe your data before flashing ThinROM
9) When boot in TWRP, wipe your data if you're encrypted, flash ThinROM zip and then reboot to system
10) After the first boot, open Magisk Manager and reply with YES (agree to reboot) after MM have setup your root environment
*after reboot, go to Magisk Manager settings and toggle On Zygisk
10) Enjoy....

It will void warranty in certain countries but that's for you to check. Please download the latest FW for DBT and then the rom will flash just fine.

This is an MPB (my personal build) that is heavily debloated and has pretty much only edge panels left in it. Everything that could be removed safely (except edge panel) has been removed however system apps like camera, calandar, calculator, play store etc are still included.
The aroma only has a choice of clean or dirty and will automatically flash a full screen caller mod, boot animation and all available csc mods.
The rom is only 2.97gb in size and because it's my personal build I will not be adding things back into it.

Banking apps work fine as long as you know how to use zygisk and battery is different for every user but for me it is alot better.
