troubleshoot repair - Android One (First-Generation) Cross-Device Themes

is there such a tool i can put on a phone that will trouble shoot a crash?
i am not talking about logcat. all that does is take a basic description of events
i have never seen a logcat that showed the reason of the problem
in short i am trying multiple roms, and the signal messenger app is crashing at the end of setup.
all the copies of the past releases are doing the same thing, and the oldest is working fine on another phone.
so i know the apk's are good
i just need a tool to find the problem
pleas advise

My ventures into youtube app.

So we all know that for some reason the youtube app doesnt open after a login, we also know that a simple delete of the youtube.xml in shared preferences lets us once again use youtube...(/data/data/com.google.android.youtube/shared_prefs)
I had a been working on a little script to delete that file every time I closed youtube but realized this would get repetitive. I am wondering is this a B&N problem with the way permissions work and where information is stored...similiar to the inability to run shortcuts. Even if you go in and delete from the .xml file your username information or even delete everything in the file but dont delete the physical file, after trying to open youtube it will once again reset. I have been frustrated by this numerous times...where is that data being stored? Does anyone know...
I can't help other than bumping this, but being able to favorite videos is a big part of my youtube experience and I also find this annoying.
On an unrelated note side loading honeycomb youtube apk is wonderful.
Here is where I fail. I have managed to delve further into the youtube.xml file and figure out what exactly is seeming to cause the problem with permission, but I cannot repackage the apk after editing...because I cant sign it. Any thoughts on a solution to this...also it is possible to extract edit then repackage an apk on the nook itself?
Check out this tool. It handles re-signing the APKs.

I actually came across that tool about 20 minutes before you replied, as an update. I now have youtube where it will allow me to sign in (I do a full quit using task killer) and then restart it with no problems. The problem occurs when I shut down my nook and bring it back...on some shutdowns it just makes me sign in again, others it does the normal process where it does not open up. I dont understand where this thing is storing my permissions or login data, I have erased and looked at most every bit of code that could have anything to do with data storage...maybe it calls some process built in to the nook that I'm missing.
Oh wow...finally got this running on the stook root. I'm having a few friends test it out to make sure I'm not breaking permissions for other things...I'll send out the apk or explain the steps momentarily.
Awesome! Can't wait to try it out. Is this for Froyo or for Nook rooted?
Just for rooted 1.1 though I see no reason it wouldnt work on rooted 1.01 or 1.00...though I'm running into problems. It seems that I wont be able to release an update to the apk but instead will need to include instructions on how to update your own apk which will automatically make it less doable.

Methodology for Tracking Down Crashes?

I've been having crash events on my Galaxy Nexus, which creates bugreport text files and screen shots on a regular basis, not to mention popping up an Intent dialog asking me how I want to send crash info. It's an annoyance I'd like to correct, so I'm looking for ways to figure out and fix whatever is causing the problem.
Is there a good methodology I can run through to at least narrow down what software is throwing the errors and triggering bug reports? Failing that, is there a decent way to suppress them?
The crashes aren't predicable and seem to occur regardless of what app I'm currently using. Some (I think) occur when I'm not using the phone, and produce a screenshot of my lockscreen as debug info. I've done a fair amount of tinkering, including basic programming in Eclipse, so I'm wondering if I can use LogCat or some other debug tool to observe a crash. Or if I can look for a specific line of the 4 meg bugreport.txt to find what process is freaking. I just don't have enough experience with analyzing when things go wrong to know where to look.
Some simple facts about my case if you're interested in offering opinions:
-Been rooted on the Nexus for ages, but crashes only started fairly recently.
-Started roughly when (give or take a few days) I flashed to stock 4.0.4 and latest Verizon radios, because my collection of mods (maybe Clockwork Recovery) was preventing an OTA update from succeeding. Interestingly, it continued after doing a SuperWipe (of absolutely everything) and flashing in Jelly Bean with stock kernel.
-The radios were reflashed, but are the same between 4.0.4 and 4.1
-All the apps I use are all installed on both OS's. I don't particularly want to go through the time required to remove apps, wait for crashes, and reload them, particularly if there is a quicker solution.
I'm having the same issue. It has persisted through multiple re-images and wipes so It has to be something that I reload on the system, but I cannot figure out what it is...
I've tried digging through the crash reports and watching logcat but i haven't been able to reproduce the crashes on demand...
Update: Actually I have a theory that these crashes may actually be related to Google Wallet. My Secure Element is locked, but i don't have a need for wallet anyhow so I never got my device replaced. I don't remember having this issue before I switched my GNex to the Takju ROM (which included Wallet). This would also explain why the issue seems to persist between wipes (Each ROM I've loaded has always had Wallet pre-installed). I'm going to try using Titanium Backup to freeze Wallet and see if I get anymore crashes. I'll keep you posted.
Resolution:
The bug reports are being generated when USB Debugging is on and Volume Up, Volume Down, and Power are all hit. For me, this was happening frequently because my TPU case is fairly tight and it depresses the volume keys inadvertently.

[Q] HTC M8 Camera Crashing and not working

Love this phone more than anything, but after fiddling around with it on the first day the camera app is no longer working. It worked initially for a few minutes then it would freeze up and crash all together. And no I do not have the Last Pass app that people say is causing the crash. I did a factory reset and its still not working. I assumed it was a software issue, but even after rooting and flashing a custom rom it's still not working. Probably going to contact HTC tomorrow, but was wondering if anyone else was having issues with the camera?
It's LastPass
I had the same problem.. If you have last pass installed. Launch it... go to preferences and disable auto fill apps
I'm having the same problem, and I do not have Lastpass. So please don't be useless and say it is that app. I do not have other apps installed to manage passwords, but whatever Android software is native to ATT does a good job at remembering passwords...
Somewhere else on the interweb someone said Line could be a culprit. Anyone???

Have you tried factory reset and/or Safe Mode? Those would eliminate the possibility that a 3rd party app is the culprit.
If those still don't solve the issue, I would recommend running the RUU. RUU will return all software to the stock image. So if the problem persists after RUU, I would tend to believe its a hardware issue.
I'm assuming you are running a stock device, but you haven't given that info. The problem with jumping onto an existing thread and saying "I have the same issue" is that the OP may/or may not have the exact same conditions as you (which is almost always not the case). And if you don't tell us the specifics, it makes it hard for us to help. For instance, the OP stated he tried factory reset, plus root and a custom ROMs (with no success) and we don't know if you did the same or not.

Line app issues

Hello,
I asked this question on reddit, and was referred to this forum, so I hope someone might be able to help.
Every time I try to open my LINE app (Galaxy S7, stock 7.0 Nougat, unrooted), it says "LINE has stopped" and I am presented with the option to restart it or submit feedback. When I restart, it changes to "LINE keeps stopping" and only lets me send feedback.
I've tried everything short of uninstalling, including waiting since February for my phone to get an Android update. But it hasn't helped.
When I contacted LINE support, they said it was a known issue with Android phones and they were working on it, but none of the updates since have helped things. Is there a way to fix the app without uninstalling?
I've had this on my phone since I got it, nearly 2 years ago, but neglected to backup my chats, which are now inaccessible to me. So I'd very, very much prefer to find a way to preserve the years of chat history I've accumulated somehow. Can anyone point me towards a guide or program that can help me extract this data from the app without it opening?
Thank you.

Stuck in the Setup-Wizard on a stock device...

Hello,
Even though I found a lot of similiar problems and possible solutions for them,
none seemed to be suitable for my case.
My Phone:
Motorola Moto G2 with Android(either 4.4.4 or 6.0 sorry i dont know)
with SD-Card as internal storage
no root and with the stock bootloader locked
I will begin to describe my problem:
After accidentally tapping on a android app (the android head as icon - probably the setup wizard -) on my normally functioning phone, I got thrown into the setup sequence of the android setup-wizard, which is
unfortunately bugged and keeps crashing and restarting(-setup wizard has stopped-) no matter what. Any other action like using the home button(which disappeared) or access the dropdown menu is not possible and restarting or rebooting the phone wont solve the problem. The phone always starts in this setup-wizard.
So there are multiple Solutions to be found, but each of them either requires to have a rooted device or unlocked Bootloader or if not, factory reset the phone in order to install the above mentioned.
The thing is that I kinda gave up in getting my phone to work again since the only thing I seriously dont want to lose is the data, which im not able to extract anymore because I cant setup a ADB without access to settings or unlocked bootloader. And I am a big big dummy because I never did any backup on this device.
What really bugs me is that the phone still seems to function just fine(for example it still makes noises when I (probably) receive a message ) but its impossible to leave that damn setup-wizard.
I apologize for any dumb stuff or typos I just wrote, which are probably the result of a lot of exhaustion and despair.
I hope anyone can suggest a way to get to my data or even solve the problem.
Thanks in advance!

I don't have this device but, the following area of the forum is specific to your device.

With that guidance...
You should be able to obtain some member guidance within the following Q&A thread that's specific to your device as well.

Good Luck!

UNLESS asked to do so, PLEASE don't PM me regarding support. Sent using The ClaRetoX Forum App on my SM-G900V device.
OK, fixed it thank god
I will write down my solution in case that anyone faces the same problem and isnt
able to use advanced root/bootloader methods.
My Hero was a little "glitch" in the wizard, where you could partially leave it by
establishing a new network and write done something random to mark it and then
press share. afterwards you can try different applications which are shown to somehow reach the settings which is your golden goal. Gmail worked for me but it was really a back and forth till I somehow ended up in the playstore and then opened the settings application(if its not in the playstore try to open a launcher like Nova launcher or Google Now). If you managed to reach that point its nearly done.
just find the setup-wizard in your applications (systemapps) and give it ALL the rights it needs(should be phone and contacts). I have stopped him additionally but I dont think that added up anything. After that is done just hold the power button till its off and after the restart the setup wizard should be able to detect ur google account and finish his job.
Thank god there are glitches out there.
But as far as I found out alot of glitches get patched sooner or later so...yea:silly:
