Looking at the price of the watch, I am guessing £49.99 for each - be surprised if they dip below £30
Anyone else want to have a guess?

So call me crazy but I've had some serious apple watch envy the past year, and its purely based on the fact that the size is just right. I like the square design, but EVERY square smartwatch design just SWAMPS your wrists. SO imagine my excitement upon hearing asus was making a smaller 1.45 in version, then imagine my dissapointment when me (a very hetero male) sees that the 1.45 in comes with a "Diamond" studded watch face (yes just software i know) and a thin white leather band, so blatantly meant for the more feminine among us.
WELLL... i put my "Y" chromosomes in a metaphorical desk drawer for a time and bought the watch and a blue and white nylon nato band from amazon. When it arrived i stupidly slapped it on in its original girly state, we're all tech nerds and we know the elatement we feel at a new piece, and it immediately tarnished my view on the watch.
I can however now affirm that once i changed the watch face and replaced the band that it does indeed look most excellent on a male wrist. In fact it has a passing resemblance to the apple watch (which hate it or love it its a darn fine piece of design).
My opinions on the female to male conversion, mr/mrs jennings eat your heart out I suppose, were confirmed by the face that none of my friends or wife have said "he cool you're wearing female jewerly". Its extremely comfortable, works excellent at the gym with my vimovit app, as well as at the office. And ya know what for less than half the price of most other watches (many of which i've tried, 360 gen 1, 360 gen 2, and Sony SW3) it does everything they do with the same internals. (so long as you can face the face that all hear rate monitors as they exist in smartwatches currently are rubbish and only serve to further shorten your battery life).
Nice write up..

How is the battery life of the smaller Zenwatch 2? I'm also starting to believe that the smaller version isn't necessarily only designed for women.
With ambient black and white screen mode thingy on, it doesn't even last a day. Turn that off and I have 50% at then end of the day left after heavy use
Well, after reading tons of reviews, apparently the batter life shall improve after a few charges. Since I'm new to smartwatches, how useful are they in daily life? I do plan to use the swim.com app to count swimming laps, maybe some of you can test how accurate it is? Unfortunately, the ZW2 is still not available in my country.
Even through Amazon? (it just went up this week). I use it for fitness tracking and it works great. Aside from that I'm in a profession where I attend a lot of meetings where pulling my phone out wouldn't really be appropriate as well as I'm on the move a lot. The notification on your wrist are way more convenient that I thought they would be. Also it's a lot safer in the car that looking at a phone acreen
Yea here in the land of Asus the watch is still unavailable. That's really sad.
Today I found the first review of the smaller model. They report a very good battery life:

Asus websites says the smaller Zenwatch 2 is 45.2mm in length, may I ask does it include the lug or just the main shell of the watch?
Thanks!
Andrew
I think it's including the lug.
I'm a dude wearing a zenwatch 45mm also lol I actually bought a 20mm silicone band that I was able to trim just a little to fit between the lugs and it looks great

Add me to the list...
I am another guy who chose the 1.45 model. I am really happy with it, I used the watch band from the watch it was replacing and no one (even in my family) has noticed a new watch. Obviously it is bigger, but isn't so much different that it stands out. I was concerned about battery life but it makes it through the day even with more use than will probably be normal. Attached is a comparison that I created when determining which to buy.
I was almost sold on the smaller watch but they were sold out at Best Buy when I went so I got the only one they had (gun metal gray). Coming from LG G Watch (a true square) I am still very happy with the purchase. Although it is technically the same size, the curved screen feels great on my palm and the more rounded corners make it look smaller.
I actually didn't think I would like the button, but after a few days of "figuring it out", I now love it.
Just FYI,
1 Tap (toggle screen)
1 Hold (App Drawer)
2 Taps (Turns the screen completely off, requires tap to turn on) [differs from software theater mode from requiring a triple tap of the screen, same effect though]
1 Long Press (Power off)
As far as battery, I use the hell out of my phone and get constant notifications from work. I use Screen Brightness of 3. WiFi off. Ambient Mode. Styler has cool options like transparent notifications, full ambient mode, screen off timeout (5 seconds for me), Google Now popup location, etc. The biggest one is I set my screen time out for 5seconds.
By the end of the day (8am-6pm) I have about 70% battery left. Right in line with my LG G Watch.
My CoWorker, who gets the same work emails, has a Motorola 360 (first gen) watch and it is dead by 2pm. As big as it is I would think it had a huge battery. I am not sure what watch face he uses but I think he tried to turn off WiFi and lower his brightness.
OK, I wanna share my story with the 1.45 inch Zenwatch 2: ordered one, after comparing it's size with the apple watch, it looks nice and compact on photos. So after I received it, I removed the beige leather strap for women and tried to buy a black rubber sports band. The only one that fitted was a Casio watch band. But it was too narrow, still looked like a girls watch. After complaints of my wife that the watch itself looks too feminine and looks kind of weird on my wrist, I returned it and ordered the larger model. Message to future male buyers of the smaller Zenwatch: it's harder than I thought to find a suitable 18mm watch strap. The more rounded corners of the 1.45 inch Zenwatch does give it a feminine look. Also most probably only the larger model has a built in speaker.

I really like the look of the 1.45 version, i feel like the other would be a bit too big and awkward on my wrists. But i haven't really tried them on personally. Might sharing any pics
You can buy a 22mm band with a 18mm connector. They arent as easy to find but amazon had some metal ones for about 40.
I had no problem finding an 18mm black leather band at Target.
Too right
I innitially bought the 49mm watch and from the moment I first strapped it on I thought "This is just a little too big.
I traded it in for a 45mm model. After slapping a stainless band on it I'm very happy with it.
I think ASUS really missed the boat marketing this as a "Ladies" watch. I sure don't see anything "Feminine" about the watch now.
To the OP: IMO that strap is not only hideous, but makes your watch look like a cheap toy.
I got my wife the 45mm for Xmas. It was the $149 one with the gray strap. We both felt the strap made the watch look cheap, much like yours. So, I bought her the generic version of the 18mm chrome steel strap that ASUS sells with the watch for $199, but on Amazon for $10! Now she gets compliments all the time on the watch. Even her co-workers have asked if that is the same watch because it looks so much better.
My advice to you; get any steel 18mm strap on Amazon for $10-$15 and let the compliments come rolling in. You won't regret it because your watch will look so much better and expensive.
On another note, I recently got the 49mm gunmetal gray ZW2 with the brown leather strap. I love it. It felt big at first, but I feel like that is because the leather strap needed to break in because it was stiff and did not allow the face to sit on the wrist properly. After breaking it in, it feels much better and because it is more comfortable now seems less intrusive on the wrist. I will be taking my own advice and will order a gunmetal gray steel strap from Amazon. However, the brown leather strap does not look cheap, but classy in the first place.
Hello,
So I just ordered a Zenwatch 2 as a Christmas present for myself. I originally bought a Fossil Q Founder. I figured with the Intel Processor and 1GB of ram it would be more future proof. I didn't like it though. It didn't fit / feel right on my wrist. The flat tire seemed worse in person than I thought it would and it doesn't have an internal speaker for future use. (Thank you Android Police, for saying it had a speaker, which it does not)
I am pretty stoked! The Zenwatch 2 is my first smart watch if you don't count my 1 day with the Fossil Q Founder. I went with the all Gun Metal (Black) Stainless Steel version. I think it looks really sharp and sleek. I like how the steel band clasps together. I also ordered the brown leather band which has the metal clasp as well. ($24.99 from Asus) I was originally going to buy the Gun Metal / Brown Leather version from Best Buy for $150 and then just order the metal band later on. I ended up saving this way though. I got the Gun Metal Stainless Steel version from BH Photo for $199 shipped (No sales tax). The band individually cost $60.
Best Buy has the Zenwatch 2, Huawei Watch, LG Watch Urbane, and Moto 360 (2nd gen) all on display in store. I was able to try on all of them. I didn't like the flat tire on the Fossil so obviously the 360 was out from the beginning. I like the look of the LG, but it did not feel right on my wrist at all. Either did the Huawei watch. The Zenwatch 2 fit and felt the best out of all of them! If they had the display (Gun Metal / Brown Leather) in stock I probably would of bought it as I am impatient, then just ordered the black metal band separately and pay a little extra all said and done. They were out of stock though. This is one of the only times that I like / prefer the cheaper item. lol. I originally went to Best Buy with the intent to purchase the Huawei Watch, replacing my Fossil Q Founder. I just liked the design and feel of the Zenwatch 2 more. I can't believe it is only $130 rubber, $150 leather, $200 metal. Such a good deal!
UPDATE:
I ended up returning the Zenwatch 2. I just really don't like the large bezels around the display. It also had a stuck pixel near the center of the display. (Neon Green) If the Zenwatch 2's entire watch face was all display, I would have LOVED it and just did an exchange due to the stuck pixel. I ended up buying the Huawei Watch for $309 shipped, free overnight shipping and no sales tax from BH Photo Video. I received it yesterday and I love it! I'm not trash talking the Zenwatch 2 though at all. I still think it is a great smart watch, especially for the $130 / $150 / $200 price tag.
I had the ZenWatch 2 for about two weeks before trading up to the Hauwei. I loved the ZenWatch 2. I highly recommend it. I was just telling someone that the fit is great. I like the curve of the screen and how it wrap around your wrists. The price is awesome too.
The ONLY reason why I swapped for the Hauwei, well 2 reasons. Me and another dev screwed up our system partitions gaining root and pulling partition backups for TWRP (the thread is here somewhere). They weren't bricked but it was refusing updates. So I planned on going back to swap it but they were out (after Thanksgiving rush) and they had the Hauwei on sale plus I have 10% off.
I kept the Hauwei just because I came from the LG G Watch (square) and the ZW2 felt like great upgrade, but it didn't "feel" different. That could be a good or bad thing because the LG G Watch is also a awesome device but I just wanted to SEE the investment. The round screen helped that. The only thing is the smaller battery but neither have issues getting through a day.
Plus only the ZW2 and Hauwei watch have speakers for the upcoming update (speaker phone!)
I had the GunMetal gray version of the ZW2 and I bought the Steel version of the Hauwei. Both great. I do have a hard time justifying the price of the Hauwei (since they work exactly the same), but I like it. My ex said she liked the "square" watches better. But I still have my LG G Watch too... so...

I just got the ZenWatch 2 a couple weeks ago. I like it a lot and probably won't get another for awhile, but if I do, I'm going for the Huawei. Out of curiosity, is the display on the Huawei any better than the ZW2?

My wife just got me a smartwatch for Christmas. I gave her the choice between the zenwatch 2 or the Huawei watch. She picked the Huawei watch and I am loving it. I did try the zenwatch 2 on at best buy. I think I would have been happy with that too

The Huawei has a 1.4" AMOLED Display with 286 PPI. The Asus ZW2 has a 1.63" AMOLED Display with 278 PPI. The Huawei may appear a little nicer. Not so much because of the slightly higher PPI, but because of the fact that it is a smaller display so it will be more dense.
I am thinking about buying a Zenwatch 2 soon...Amazon has the silver one with the dark brown silicone band for $119 and Best Buy has the Gunmetal with leather band for $121...I am wanting the best smartwatch I can get to go with my Android phone at a price around $100. With this in mind I am not wanting to wait and pay the higher price for the Zenwatch 3, the only reason I would wait would be if the Zenwatch 2 would drop in price even lower once the Zenwatch 3 is available.
So, do you think prices are as low as they will get or do you think it will drop more possibly around Black Friday, etc or do you think this is about as cheap as it is going to get?
You don't need a smartwatch. They don't bring very much functionality. I use one everyday, just to justify the cost to my wife
They don't work reliable. The notification system is a hit-or-miss one. The menu navigation performance is less than satisfying.
As it currently is, Android Wear is FAR behind TIZEN.

In my opinion wait until the next couple of watches are out, watch for deals at places like Android authority that sometimes give a heads up about flash deals on Amazon, eBay and other sellers.
Then buy Huawei watch, which is in my opinion a better version (that screen resolution is beautiful compared) of the Zenwatch 2.
The reasons I bought the Zenwatch 2 and not the Huawei watch at the time were the square screen which I preferred and the huge price difference.
Today most watch faces are round watch oriented so that's one, and two - you can get the Huawei watch without deals at 200$ and in deals in the last months in 130$ to 150$.
Ok, I'm going to give the opposite opinion. I use my ZW2 all the time, because my phone's notifications were bothering my coworkers. Now I just get a buzz on my wrist, which is a lot more office-friendly.
The only complaint I have is that it does occasionally disconnect at times, but for the most part, mine has been pretty reliable as long as I keep it within 20' or so of my phone. I can even leave my phone upstairs and wander around downstairs and keep a connection.
The battery lasts a fairly decent amount of time - I could squeeze at least two days out of it, and I use my watch fairly frequently. I do have the screen turn off when it's not in use, though.
Now, as for price, I expect it will drop some with the ZW3 comes out, but not much. The ZW3 is looking to be a more "premium" watch. The ZW2 will likely get Android Wear 2 as well, so it really comes down to whether you like square faces or round faces. (The ZW3 will have a round face). I personally prefer the square face and have a watch face that works great with it.
It really depends, though. Do you have an immediate need for a smart watch? If you don't, the product refresh cycle is early next year, and the new watches will obviously be faster/better. If you do, I can recommend the Zenwatch 2. It's a great little device, and I love mine. I got mine a while back when the larger one was still $139 with the leather band, but I believe prices have come down since.
I agree that I like the square faces and I think the silver ZW2 with a brown band looks really nice and classy though that might just be my perspective. I don't have an immediate need but it would be beneficial. I get a lot of notifications throughout the day so frequently that it is a pain to get my phone out each time. It would also be helpful to be able to have my phone on the charger at home after work but still be able to send/receive calls and texts from my watch.
I plan to wait until at least November 1st and possibly until Black Friday but I don't want to wait longer than that. The silver with brown rubber band is only $119 on Amazon right now so I don't really expect it to go much lower. Best Buy had the gunmetal with brown leather band for $120 a few days ago but it has since gone back up to $150.
I use mine all the time. Its convenient for me. I can't always pull my phone out of my pocket to check notifications, and have had it for a few months, haven't missed anything notification wise yet. Receive all texts, etc. Mine is paired with an s7 edge.

Well, I'll have to agree that Android wear functionality, solely based on reviews, is inferior to tizen. I wish I could try tizen but I didn't so I don't know much about it. I understand it's more intuitive and don't require you to swipe so much.
However, it have much much much less apps, I don't know how much integration it have with tasker but I guess android wear has much better integration and I use tasker a lot.
As for using it, I use it daily, but it's definitely not a must for everyone... For me it's a power tool, for others a fancy gadget.
I love my ZW2. It's hard to say if/how much cheaper it'll be once the ZW3 is released. It's a bit of a gamble to wait to see if ZW2 gets Wear 2.0.

There you go, Google now just gave me this for you.
Refurbished at 80$ , new at 120$, for the Zenwatch 2.
http://www.androidheadlines.com/2016/10/deal-asus-zenwatch-2-80-101816.html
Working in a loud shop, my Zenwatch 2 has made it possible for me to catch calls and texts that I used to miss
because I can't hear my ringer with my phone in my pocket.
When I found out that it was being discontinued, I jumped on Amazon, and found an open box deal on a
1.63 inch for $70.00. and snapped it up. That was on 10/10. From what I can see, the prices are going up.
I like a square screen over the round style, so this was an easy choice for me.
Yeah, the square screen really sold it. I hate Asus is joining in with the round screen crowd on the ZW3, as it was one of the few features that made it stand out. I use the Glance face, with 6 data items on it, and I love it. It is theoretically doable on a round face, but I still like my ZW2 better than any of the other alternatives at the moment.
Yeah I prefer the square and plan to jump on the $119 silver with brown band ZW2 sometime soon (Black Friday/cyber Monday at the latest). Thanks to the person who posted the link to the $80 refurb but I think for the $30 difference it is worth it to have a new one with the full warranty...while the reviews are overall very good for the ZW2 I have seen more than a few that mentioned theirs crapping out after a few months of use.
I just picked up a silver/brown band 1.63 for $95 new on Amazon. Got it yesterday and like it lots.

No, and believe me I was looking too. I also tried to find a spare charger, with no luck. I mean, I found an asus site where I can theoretically order one, but the description is so laconic that I'm not sure if it's the same thing. Coming from OnePlus it seems a bit odd to me.
Don't believe it is available in NA and on ebay it is like $105 US that is a joke, okay 35 I can see, 105 not a chance. Asus better support this device longer than 2 OS
I have bought it from the Asus website for 49,99 euro. IT works as expected.
