AFAIK this is not possible. You can either use wifi for connecting your device to the internet, or to provide a wifi hotspot for other devices.
If you need a device being able to do both things in parallel, then get a wifi repeater. Not a smartphone.
@It_ler & @Uday Mehta
I can use Wifi and Hotspot simultaneously on my LineageOS 18.1, Android 11 on my Xiaomi Mi A2 without problem.
I don't know what you have to enable that if your not using LOS but maybe you can ask LOS Devs or look at their source code.

Flashed attached wpa_adhoc-signed.zip from Android Ad-hoc support hack/wpa_supplicant via custom recovery, on .void custom ROM and I can confirmed, that it works fine.
Thanks The_ERROR. I'd like to thank blackplatypus for the zip file too, but I can't do anything on the development forum yet (can only read).

Thank you very much. This helps a lot when I'm in an internet environment that I don't have access to it
This guide teaches you to reverse tether your Android phone via WiFi. That is, it allows you to use your Ethernet connection of PC on your Android phone. It is useful for those who do not have WiFi routers and data connection. So if you have unlimited data plan for your computer, why not share the connection with your phone?
I am not the developer of the files supplied
Requirements:-
1.Rooted Phone
2.Wifi enabled Laptop or PC
3.Root explorer or any other application which gives system access
4.File in the attachement
Procedure :-
Phone:
Download Wpa_supplicant.zip and extract "wpa_supplicant" from it, save it on your SD card.
Open Root Explorer, and grant it superuser access when asked for.
Navigate to system -> bin and long press on wpa_supplicant; Select copy, and paste the file into any folder on your SD card.
Now navigate to the file you downloaded, copy it in same way, and paste it back to system -> bin. Note, you might need to mount the system as R/W instead of R/O by pressing a button on the top just before pasting the file.
Reboot.
▬▬Ubuntu (Must work for other Linux Distros too)▬▬:
Open Network Connections
Goto Wireless tab, select add, and set the following:
SSID: <Any_name_you_like>
Mode: Ad hoc
Leave other things unchanged, and go to Ipv4 settings tab
Set method to Shared to other computers
Go to Wireless security tab and set Security to WEP 40/128 bit key and set key to a numeric password (or hexadecimal one).
Check the connect automatically box on top of the tabs and press Save.
Your Android phone must now detect this network, and you can establish the connection by using your security key.
▬▬Windows XP, Vista, 7▬▬
Download and Install Connectify from www . connectify.me/download-lite/
Start Connectify Hotspot by giving a name and password to your hotspot and selecting the Ethernet connection to share. Make sure the security type is WEP or Open.
Disable your firewall (Simply adding it to exceptions doesn't work for AVG at least)
Now your phone should be able to see the hotspot and establish the connection using the password set.
Known Issues :
1.Random disconnections (Very less frequency)
2.Disconnections due to screen lock / sleep on laptop
3.For me Security mode does not works
HIT THANKS IF IT WORKED
ENJOY
For windows, "virtual wifi router" -> Download is free, and imho better..
Do not download the installer version though

i think the problem is "wpa_supplicant" file. i moved my backup "wpa_supplicant" back to system/bin and now wifi works fine..
There is a much simpler way to reverse tether. Just search for the app in the play store. It's name is “reverse tether" it costs $4.99 but there's a trial version for testing purposes.

please read the thread before you post. That app works only on usb connection. and the op is discussing wireless tether. i don't think anybody would like to spend 5 dollars and then be physically tethered to the pc.
Also, this sites name is xda-developers, we are here to develop and find solutions. If you just wanted to buy 5 dollar apps, then why visit here?
so other people can get it to work? i wonder why doesn't it work for me, tried it again but still facing the same problem, i'm on arconium gb 8.2 and doom kernel v22 :/

u r attaching the binary file
i tried this several times with several file source ALWAYS FAIL(i didn't try yours)
maybe the the wpa_supplicant.conf file , that located in /etc/wifi/
or the other one located in /data/misc/wifi
r regenerating the binary file the wrong way so it overwritten
is it possible to attach above mention file so we can follow same
NOTE:THIS FILE CONTAIN UR WIRELESS NETWORK PASSWORDS U CAN REPLACE IT WITH *****
Why not just use connectify?

to your PC. There are saved all wifi-passwords

If you need to recover the pass directly from the device, you need root. There aren't any other way.
Sounds suspicious to me!
If it's a work phone why do you need the wifi password?
If it's already connected why do you need to know the password?
Why don't you just ask your network admin the password if you are allowed access?
Please explain yourself before I report you..

Oh ho.. cool man.. we are in need to test an application which needs internet.. earlier we got the password for a wireless network used by the adjacent team in one of our device.. now my manager is reluctant again going back to them begging for the password.. so he asked me any other way.. even i know how to do it when the device is rooted, but unfortunately the device is not rooted and i cant root it since its not mine.. and there is no adb setup available as well..anyways we got the password..this time he sent me to beg for it..
Use this APP
WiFi Pass Recovery & Backup Best app just showed the password but ROOT required.

Wifi passwords are encrypted on my S4 4.3!
Am I the only person that has thier Wifi passwords are encrypted in thier "wpa_supplicant.con" file by default. If not does anyone know how to have it decrypted by default so I could see my wifi passwords. Thanx
worked like a charm on my original tab 1
Used Wifi Key Recovery and never had problems, got the HTC M8 and now when i open the app it show zero protected networks, even though i am on wifi, changed over to Wifi Password Recovery, this one does show all the networks i have logged into but when i press on one of them to get the password, i get HTC=ENCRYPTION:then bunch of letters, non of which are the passwords. Can this be disabled in the HTC, or is it a 4.4.2 issue. Thanks in advance for your help.

I've yet to find any solution to be able to see the passwords, even is i use /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf, they are still encrypted btw, love the motogp avatar
I found the keys but they are in Hex format. Even with the usage of a an escape (0x) the wireless card fails to connect using these 24 long passwords.
Does it mean they are encrypted? if so how to decrypt.

Yes, they are encypted. How to decrypt? hard to know before know what type of encryption they use, the result of encryption is a number show in hex... maybe transforming into pure binary and then transforming on something could work... but I really dont know... maybe is just a new type of encryption and the only way to decrypt is to create multiple password you know the result and compare the hex tags.
Hope someone could help us to avoid that kind of work xD
Hi everyone.
How to chane my device name on wi-fi connection.
My device name is android-xxx13bc etc.
Do you know it ?
Also I use stock rom.And My device is new
If there is no option in stock room I can root my device but no room.Maybe there is an app.
What you want to exactly change?
If you want to change your hotspot name...
then go Settings>Wireless and network More..>portable hotspot>Set up wifi hotspot
You can change the name of your hotspot.
Press Thank if i help you
Thats the unique hardware id of your phone, if u want to change it, search in some options with WiFi direct.
But this is a name which you can see when your device is connected to hotspot huh?
Open WiFi.
Go To WiFi Direct.
Click the settings button.
You'll get the option to rename the device.
....you're welcome.
Before I upgraded to Android 8 or 9 I was able to edit a file
p2p_suplicant.conf to change Wifi Direct name and passwords.
That's not the case on Android 9.
Where can I change these values?
I am running Android 10 on GP 3aXL. I have two Devices A and B connected via Wi-Fi direct. On device A, i have a proxy server running. I want to share my internet connection with device B. When i scan wifi on device B, I see SSID with the name of the remembered group on device A. I try to connect and it is asking me for the password. Where is this password info located? Tx.

How?? What do you have to change in p2p_supplicant.conf to change Wifi direct username and password?
I'm trying to tether wifi using wifi direct, I looked into this 2 yrs back, did everything I could to change pass so that, I get a fixed pass everytime, not a randomly generated one, but I couldn't get anything to work, I thought it's not possible and gave up
You're saying you've done that, I really want to know
