Hi,
I am a newbie with a little experience only, I installed LineageOS on my second hand S6 phone. I am happy with it.
I am thinking to buy a second hand tablet and I'd like to know what is the best for a ROM like LineageOS.
Samsung Galaxy S6 (SM-T860) looks a good one but I have read LineageOS is not working on it.
Could you confirm? Is there another ROM without GAFAM (no google at all)?
What about Samsung Galaxy S5e (SM-T720), LineageOS or other ROM without GAFAM?
What brand , reference do you advice in the same range of quality, size and power, second hand tablet to run LineageOS?
Thank you for your help
For reference:
I found the answer. There is no custom ROM for Samsung Galaxy S6, I think due to proprietary hardware chips.
The closest today is the Samsung Galaxy S5e with a LineageOS 18.1 ROM.

There is no proprietary chips. There is no custom rom for almost no newer device.
Its because orinal roms are very good nowdays, and no one have the free time to create a custom rom from start. Its easier just to debloat and install some extra.
Lineage is very problematic rom. After some time become slow.

Do you mean it is possible to remove all GAFAM apps/stuff and replace with FOSS without installing a new ROM?
Could you provide links about it (howto not device specific) and about LineageOS issue as well?
Many thanks to share you knowledge.

You can't remove everything. You can remove many. See debloating threads.
See the threads for galaxy s10 lite, s20, etc. Almost none has custom roms anymore. It's not tab s6 only, and it isn't due to propertiary hardware (there isn't).
Lineoage is garbage for 95% of phones. Keep it 2 months and see how laggy is becoming. I have installed it in almost 30 phones in past, I'm not taking it from my mind.
S5e with the lightest custom rom, will never be as fast as original ROM tab s6.
such a shame

Sorry I don't understand (newbie), could you explain?
I was thinking that LineageOS is a ROM.
I can consider I am lucky as the first and only ROM I installed (as newbie) and still run in my old S6 is LineageOS 17. Only fingerprint is not working.
My question now is how far is it possible to go to de-bloat and de-google; Remove most as possible of google, GAFAM, if possible everything from them.
sadly no custom rom for our tab s6, nor custom kernel
i have asked in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-request-poll-should-i-develop-a-rom-for-the-tab-s6.4160763/ and see if there are any developers here but yet to get a reply from anyone
tbf the roms nowadays are much better but still have rooms to improve. eg i cant live with a messenger showing only the time i received a sms but not the time someone sent it (mine is t860 so it doesnt matter for my tab s6). sometimes i received something like "your parcel is ready, pls get it in 24 hrs", so how do i know when the countdowns started without the sent time? of coz ppl can get another app to receive sms but i prefer to change it myself. so imho, custom roms are still valuable. i like the sound by akg in our tab s6, but some prefers others
on the other hand, custom kernels can do much more than stock one, no matter in performance, battery consumption etc. with a custom kernel my tab s (the first tab s) lasted for a few years before i switched to tab s6, that's 5 years
i admire the s5e has both of them thanks to the developers, however, i like amoled more personally so i chose tab s6

I don't understand how a custom kernel or a custom rom could change anything in the example you gave nor does the app we use as I don't think there is much difference between the time sent with the time received.
This is more a matter with your retailer.
At present time you can already debloat most of your system apps without root and thus install the ones you want.
Of course with a custom kernel you could gain some features but most of the time you might lose others (S-Pen, Camera quality, stability or such) !
Being flagged once when you root your device is one thing, but being flagged twice with a custom kernel is too much for me, specially when I'll sell my device for another model... ^^
For now, I'm considering different options to create a custom rom based on stock to facilitate the updates or upgrades specifically with rooted device and with TWRP without loosing our data during the process.

well, coz i will turn on my phone's flight mode at home (i am talking about my phone but not my tab s6 gere), so the time i get the sms can be 12 hrs or more. this can be changed in the stock message app
it will be great if you are going to create custom rom base on stock rom
How do I debloat my Tab S6? It's been lagging and battery died too quick
Fist of all THERE IS one custom rooted debloted rom with Twrp pre installed . I have installed it, and I have debloated it more by freezing with titanium.

Its based in android 11 original rom, last ui, so its new to everything, it's not old. It's very battery friendly, i have installed it. You don't have to read everything there before they are for older versions of this custom rom, which there no needed any more. Actually if you only want a latest original android 11 rooted rom with titanium pre installed, its so easy now, as to install the original. (after you unlock the bootloader of course). You just download the custom rom and installed it with odin. Just this. IF you want the modifications which the dev is doing it needs some more things. I give instructions there:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...021-released-06-07-2021.4103325/post-85521453.
Here is my list in titanium that i have freeze for more debloating: I don't know what more you need.. All these can be found easily.
My tablet is 2 years old, and i have 8 hours screen on time in 2 days use. It's very fast. I think is more than enough..
You can also use some things i did in my galaxy s10 lite (same cpu) of my thread here:

I have a note 2 that I haven't used for a couple of years but now I am going to europe for a week and wanted to use it in europe. It currently has clean room (I think) 4.8 which is around 2 years old. Then the guy who was updating it moved on to another device and a while later I upgraded to note 4. I thought about resetting the device and just updating to latest verizon rom but then I thought I would post this question and see if there is still a maintained good room for the note ii. My intention is to only use it when travelling in europe and backup for my verizon phone.

As a side question if I do do a factory reset and then update to verizon rom will it be permantly locked (bootloader) ? Or has that been addressed in the past couple of years ?

There is no (can't remember what it's called) floaty air menu thing but the pen works as a stylus. I haven't tried it in an app to see if the pressure sensitivity works or not.
ok thanks.
i'm sure this is a loaded question... mainly because it will depend on what you want from the ROM..... for me:
Be sure not to flash Stock MJ9 Firmware, it will lock your bootloader. You can still root.. but no custom roms (i have read about safestrap flashes, but do not know much about it)
I know there is also the ND7 firmware (4.4.2) but i'm not sure if that has locked bootloader and/or rootable...
For ROMS, i have tried:
Alliance ( Touchwiz ) (4.4) and (4.3)
Lots of Customizing
Built on Stock Firmware so S-Pen and other stock apps work
Tried because I wanted as close to stock as possible and take advantage of all the Samsung Gimics but still able to customize
CM 12 / 13 (5.1 and 6.0)
Classic version of AOSP
Miniumal Customizations
Tried because CM has always been the leaders in development.. typically stable.
OctOS (6.0)
More customization
Great developers and stable
Have gone with in the past on other phones since they have lots of features and quick updates and community.
SlimKat (4.4)
TONS of features
Slim down and fast
Have used in the past since its simplified and has lots of features
XenonHD (5.1)
Lots of features
Runs quick
Using this one at the moment because it seems to have most of the features i want and still fairly stable and quick.
********************** S-PEN WORK AROUND ****************************************************************************
I know I wanted the S-Pen features.. and first I had downloaded this to work with the AOSP Roms:
CM S-Pen Root Add On - S-Pen Detection / Keyboard AutoSwitch / ScreenShot
I now use this one:
Spen Command
Download - https://www.facebook.com/spencommand/
does cost $5.25 - but has much more features (similar to stock) but also gives more (from Note 4 and 5)
it also gives custom features like (custom cursor, eject and attach sounds, auto open / close apps, etc..)
hope this helps..
Btw, Cyanide started having battery life issues for us so I ended up installing XenonHD and my wife has been happy with it. Jaws' post reminded me to update here!
The quesiton wasn't intended to be 'loaded' and I shoudl have been more precise. I was looking for a touch wiz rom that was a bit newer then what i had. As it turns out I've already taken my trip so I've powered off the unit (though I should probably still update it). The actual note 2 I is already running a non-verizon touch wiz based rom (the reason for touch wiz is mostly the pen but personally I don't find touch wiz that awful).

what was your reason for picking XenonHD (5.1) over OctOS (6.0) or CM (6.0) ?
Just before I left town (6 months ago?) I did find a 5.x tw rom for the note 2 but I can't find it now. Might have been a work in progress. Someone had taken samsung code and thrown in the verizon drivers but maybe I am mistaken. Anyway I doubt I will use my note 2 again; the radio in it is quite dated now (for verizon); and my note 4 is already 2+ years old. It was a nice phone; first real smart phone I enjoyed (the ones before it had no battery life or cpu performance that made them tolerable). To be honest when I used the note 2 this spring during my trip it felt nearly as good as the note 4; but back home it is missing some key frequency which was the original motiviation for upgrading tot he note 4 in the first place.

Flash custom ROM
Video with links to files, and other hopefully useful info. FOR A SOLUTION!
I had a really long post with useful info containing an answer maybe not "the answer" Wanted me to instead post a comment.. Below are the instructions on how to do it according to a Youtube Video I found. While I haven't tried this method, It looks sound to me, they've included all the files needed in a link to MEGA. I'll re-share without the password / decryption key if the poster agrees only.. I do highly suggest Phoenix ROM if you're on a kltevze, it come included with eveyrthing you're looking for and I've used it before In fact, I tried it last night but was unable to get into my phone past the boot password screen I think because the system ui kept crashing. while I have used this version, I may try twelve, since I prefer AOSP or LOS based roms, I want as light as possible maybe even removing google and going with MICRO G which I used fairly successfully for over a month, It isn't perfect, sometimes the location addon apps crash, but there are many, and it may just be that the ones I was using crashed, and not the ones you need yourself.. But MICRO G is worth the piece of mind to me coming from an encrypted phone, No I have nothing to hide really but Alphabet/Google already know enough about me through the use of their "FREE and Very Handy I might add, Services Ahem) By the way, Phoenix can be used with either an unlocked bootloader or safestrap if not.. Just get the right one.. I may end up going with a rooted deodexed TW rom, and add xposed to get the features I love from RR and other LOS based ROMS. With further ado, heres the link to the youtube instructional video I found, I really wish it was written out or could simple installed as a flashable zip which shouldn't be hard to make, but it is what it is for now.. And again seems correct to me if you don't want o go with a custom rom like Phoenix for kltevzw.
Well upon testing the Youtube link didn't play so here it is both Title for searching and another link. Install Galaxy S7 Touchwiz on S5! (Marshmallow) /URL]

I used Heimdal to flash to a more recent factory TW before flashing Phoenix which requires at least PB1. I think. Check their OP under user JKRUSE or near the top of the VZE dev thread.
This is Heimdal as found in synaptic from a buntu based distroand should be the same in any Debian based or any other distro for that matter as I've found it in many repos for different distro's, I think a ppa is available with newer builds, but don't hold me to that.
Heimdall <- commandline version.
Heimdall is a tool for flashing firmware (aka ROMs) onto Samsung Galaxy S
devices over a USB connection. It accomplishes this using the same
protocol as Odin, Samsung's internal Windows-only firmware updater.

If I do either agian soon, I'll report back with results. Again, I know Phoenix worked fine. But I'd imagine a plain TW rooted ROM that you debloat yourself and maybe add Xposed for many features found in Phoenix and in AOSP/LOS based ROM's such as RR/CR-DROID for those who prefer additional tweaking and other enhancements. Again I trouble just last night with the latest V15 of Phoenix on boot and don't know why other than my fully ecnypted device and password on boot feature But either way again if you test before me let me know the result as well. I do need a new battery for mine since it's the one it came with but that's a story for another thread, when I bought my S5 last spring for beans, (with the unlockable BL, I had to have it since my S3 had died. and I couldn't afford a new phone) and I could easily get a day plus when service is good with about 4+ hours SOT. But lately I'm using charging by the end of the day. Haven't decided yet on a stock Sammy battery or a more expesive, Thicker, heavier, but much longer lasting extended battery.
Sorry for such a long winded post. All my posts are this way if you know me. I do apologize and need to be more brief but I'm more of a lurker and searcher for what I need to know and post very seldom especially with this much what I think could be useful to someone.
If it happens to be useful please hit the "Thankss" button, it could help here, and even when looking for a job as I am... Hahahaha.. Getting laid off work blows in my area of the country.
Thanks and Happy New Year to all those who celebrate it during this time of year, if not Happy New Year when it arrives and I wish the best for everyone on the Planet. Stay informed and don't believe everything you read/hear/watch... #NoAgenda #ITM.

Hey peeps. I have this device on the way and wondered if I could get some feedback and advice. I don't know if I will be subject to OTA's or not as I ordered the Snapdragon Note 3 Pro Prime Special Edition. I'm wondering what the performance is like with CM 14, LineageOS etc... or what the latest OTA is for the stock Firmware etc...
Yes, Lineage OS is awesome you can go ahead and flash it.
Just bought myself. Yes it gets updates. Out of the box it can update to 8.1.1 which is marshmallow.
Performance is good. Takes time to set up and uninstall some of the apps you won't want like Chinese store etc.
Also look into apps you cannot install and should restrict. There is a lot of apps I'm not confident on which I've restricted permissions for. That's probably the one benefit of going custom ROM, less bloat from miui.
Good afternoon,
I'm completely new to Android, I came from iOS 3 weeks ago.
I know with iPhone's you can jailbreak, and I've only just discovered custom ROMs for Android.
I have a Samsung S9+ (UK, so it'll be exynos) - Model: SM-G965F and running: One UI Version 1.0 and Android Version 9. I also have the latest security patch: 1 April 2019.
I've heard of Custom ROM's Resurrection Remix and Pixel Experience.
Because I have the latest OS, is it possible to flash a custom ROM on my S9+? or is it too new?
If I can, do you have any custom ROMs you'd recommend I try out? I like the gestures of OxygenOS, and I prefer Google Apps over Samsung Apps.
I've been reading the forums, and watching videos. But any guides you have to install a ROM, please point me in the right direction.
Thanks for your help!
TGP (The Galaxy Project)
I have used TGP ROM's and kernels on several devices over the years and have never had any issues. The developer is always floating around should anyone need any help with anything and battery life is always amazing.
It's the first thing I did after coming from an S7E to the S9+ a no brainer...
1. Download Odin and Samsung USB drivers for your PC.
2. Unlock bootloader.
2a. Reboot into download mode.
3. Download latest TWRP, flash that sucker into your phone.
(Congratulations, you've just voided your warranty if you care about that)
Welcome to the smart side.
From there, you've got a smorgasbord of ROMs, Kernels, etc, to choose from to customise to your heart's content.
Enjoy!
(fwiw, I'm running (rooted) Light ROM, with white wolf kernel. And love it - and the nearly 36 hour gap between charges)
Hey guys. I know maybe some of you guys already did that years ago and that I am pretty late with it right now but I havent seen a thread where this was mentioned in (maybe I was just too lazy to look everywhere) but I recently made a video on how to get the Samsung Experience 8.1 Features on the S6/edge without any root or custom rom. Originally, we only got Experience 8.0, according to Wikipedia, however it isnt even mentioned in the Device Info page (if you ask me, they should have waited a few more weeks and should have given us Android 7.1.1 directly like the J5 2016 or SE 8.1 with 7.0 like the S5 Neo).
However, thanks to API 24 / Android 7.0, we are able to get nearly 80% of the Samsung Experience 8.1 Features, by updating the stock apps and TouchWiz Launcher manually. We can even get Bixby Home with that method. Things you will not be able to change are the general look of the UI (Lockscreen, Settings, QuickPanel), however you can install AOD Display, which will then be shown in the Settings. S6 edge+/Note 5 users will also benefit more from this, as they already got some S8 functions inside their firmware like changing Screen resolution or being able to activate Boostmode. The tutorial should be applicable to every Samsung device that runs Android 7.0 (A-2016 series/J-2016 series)

No. Please only use the versions I linked in the video. If you install a more recent version of TouchWiz/Bixby, they might start to crash. You can try though
