The correct procedure for flashing? - Redmi Note 9S / Note 9 Pro (Indian Model) Question

Hi all just after some help. Been using android rooting and flashing ROMs for along time but new to Xiaomi and obviously the new android 10 issues.
To the point:
I've rooted and installed the latest EU rom with TWRP, have been using it happily for a while but I'm keen to try some new ROMs...
1. I've read that people say formatting data is required (which means wiping the internal storage and deleting everything?) Is this needed for EVERY new ROM? Or just if you're coming from miui?
2. Can you actually backup your current rom with settings and data to restore it if you're not happy with the new ROM? God I miss the old way of being a flashaholic...
What is the instructions for correctly flashing a new ROM? As mentioned in currently on miui.
I have read plenty of guides and instructions on here but there's so many variants and I don't want to muck up and risk a brick since there's no patched files available.
Xiaomi note 9s
Appreciate any help or thoughts

Rooting N910CQ AND keeping Android 5.1.1 stock rom - is it possible?

Hi y’all,
Firstly, I’m a newbie. I did some forum reading / reviewing before posting this and I hope I’m posting to correct section (take it easy on newbie ). So anyways, my question is as follows:
I have a N910CQ purchased from Turkey (currently running android 5.1.1). I want to root it but keep stock ROM for two reasons: 1) I am used to touchwiz based stock ROM and I am generally satisfied with it except the bloat ware, and 2) I want to run Cerberus on it... and actually 3) all roms I came by have certain features missing (i.e. camera / pen / fingerprint sensor does not work etc).
But after doing much research (and trial and error for the last 2 days), it seems it is not possible to root a N910CQ device running 5.1.1 android and keep stock rom on it. You can either: 1) root it and flash a 5.0.1 stock rom (and when you later try to upgrade to 5.1.1 you’ll get an error message basically telling you that unauthorized modification was made to OS and therefore you’re no longer entitled to OTA upgrade) OR 2) you’ll have to flash a 5.1.1 rom other than stock rom (such as Team Eos Rom – which has many flaws). But, so far, it seems impossible to root N910CQ and flash 5.1.1 rom.
Do any of you have any recommendations? Thank you.
anybody? any clue???
It looks like your best option would be to install TWRP recovery and use it to flash a custom kernel that auto roots your device such as this http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/development/n910c-kernel-5-1-1-stock-tw-permissive-t3206548 The important thing to note is your Build Number as there are many different builds of 5.1.1. You want to make sure the kernel supports the specific build you have installed otherwise you'll soft brick and need to recover either with a nandroid backup or via Odin and the full firmware/OS tar file. Use TWRP to make the nandroid backup before installing any mod so you can easily restore if you run into issues.

I did this (except I flashed using Odin) and it totally worked. Thank you!

Just for the record though: this kernel triggered "Security Notice Unauthorized Actions Error" and so I had to change it. I'm using SpaceX now, no errors, works smoothly: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347823851
Cool. I prefer TWRP so I can make backups in case something goes wrong, but whatever works.

Just ordered Redmi Note 3 Pro - Some questions

Hi,
I'm currently waiting for my Xiaomi device and I have some questions before rooting the phone and doing some other mods.
First of all I'll mention that I've got huge experience in flashing roms, modding etc (just not with Xiaomi), so you don't have to use noob-friendly language.
1)I bought the "Pro" variant, with 16MPx, sdcard expansion and snapdragon 650.
So can I flash any rom that is included in this section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/development or is there a difference between Redmi Note 3 Snapdragon & Note 3 Pro?
According to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/development/snapdragon-note-ensure-threads-titled-t3351620 it's the same, but I just want to be 100% sure as I just bricked my previous device by flashing a wrong ROM (from other device)
Oh, and I hope the storage option doesn't really matter for ROM flashing, right?
2)I've seen some 2 methods of unlocking bootloader. First one is official, where we sometimes have to wait for some longer time to get the code and the second one is unofficial.
Are there any (dis)advantages using both of the methods, and do I have to use developer ROM to unlock it the official way? Which one is safer?
3)In case my phone would be stuck in a bootloop, can I use MiFlash to repair it?
Do I need to have modified boot.img to do this?
4)Let's assume I have China ROM stable edition. Will I be able to install via update menu the dev version (with locked bootloader) and obtain root by doing this?
5)Can I use FlashFire to flash any zip (of course not a ROM), like some audio mods etc, or am I only allowed to install Xposed with it?
6)Let's say I just flashed a ROM through TWRP but forgot to delete the emmc_appsboot.mbn file. I didn't reboot the phone yet. Will flashing a new ROM (with deleted file), restoring old backup or just deleting the file from system partition (If it exists there) prevent it from bricking?
7)What's with the modified boot.img? I don't quite understand what it's for and when to use it.
Ok, so I think that's all for now. I know these are a lot, but I just want to have some basic information about the phone before I start rooting it.
If you know some good threads that will answer my questions, please post them as an answer.
1.you can't use roms from Redmi Note 3 for Redmi Note 3 PRO;they have differnt CPU;first is equipped with an Mediatek CPU,second one is equipped with an Qualcomm CPU
2.safer method is official method;but why you need this;look around and you will see many people screaming after unlocking BL,installed TWRP,so on and finally BRICK.So my advice:Stay Safe.MIUI OS offers to you all what you needersonalization, good battery life, speed, security.Additionaly unfinished roms and not fully tested software can damage hardware of device
3.you can use MIFlash to repair device,it does exist many guides here or on MIUI Forum
4.yes you can;from China stable----->China developer and from Global stable------>Global developer;this is the order
5.i suppose that ,when you have BL unlocked and root acces,it might be possible
6.i guess not because files chianges occur after OS reboot
7.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2587462
1) If you're on the Pro, you're on the Pro. You can only flash for that specific model. The PRO have Snapdragon cpu/gpu, and the non pro version have Mediatek, which make it completely different device. Always be sure that you flash roms that have KENZO in their filename. If you flash ROM made for Mediatek, you'll possibly have a 180 grams brick.
2) I'm still waiting for official unlock code, but after 11 days still haven't got it. Unlocked it by the unofficial way and because I wasn't aware what bastards Xiaomi are, I'v managed to hard brick it so I had to open it and use the two pins for flashing. Please follow the guides in here. The disadvantage of the unofficial way is that EVERY time before you flash new rom, you have to open the archive of the rom, enter the firmware-update folder and delete the emmc_appsboot.mbn. Failing to do that will get you with locked bootloader and the only way to fix the device is by the method I've used (the story above).
3) Better reflash with TWRP. I haven't used any other tool since unlocking the bootloader and flashing the twrp recovery
4) No
5) Yes
6) No. You've already overwritten the mmc_appsboot.mbn the first time. Always check for that file and delete it before flashing. Always.
7) I don't get it also. Some people have problems with wifi without modified boot.img (kernel). Haven't got such problems by now.
ok.
So regarding the point 1. Yes, I know that there's mediatek version also.
But the link I've provided redirects to Note 3 Snapdragon forum.
The thing I wanted to know if there are only 2 types of devices:
a)mediatek, 13mpx, no sdcard,etc
b)snapdragon,16mpx, sdcard
c)snapdragon, 13mpx, no sdcard - it does not exist right?
So for eg. this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/development/rom-resurrectionremix-v5-6-7-xiaomi-t3365872 is for option b right?
Regarding #2. If I unlock the bootloader official way, do I also have to delete emmc... from the zip before flashing?
#2. Ok, so if I don't get TWRP, how may I backup the whole ROM?
As we know flashing some zip files, or even android itself may not boot after some time. So is there any alternative to TWRP backup (that would copy whole system)?
The snapdragon one is with 16 mpx camera and sd slot (or second sim). It comes in two variants - 2gb ram and 16 gb internal storage or 3gb ram and 32 gb of internal storage. The camera and the cpu are the same in both versions. That's why I've told you to only flash roms that have Kenzo in its name
For non rooted devices,it does exist MI PC Suite for create backup/restore from back-up
Exactly see the fourth question getting different answers.
Too many threads, conflict.... Answers,... ****ty bootloader, my advice if u don't understand things ,don't go 4 unlock.
Dont buy if you not yet ordered
Why not?
I'll receive it on monday probably, so it's too late anyway.
the thing is, that I like modding the phones and unlocking bootloader in Xiaomi will be just a matter of time, that's why I want to learn some basic stuff about this phone.
Because he hadn't read what all the guides say and then end up with hard bricked devices
The phone is a beast.
Yeah, you're probably right. I hope the N3PRO will be at least as good as my z2
Could you tell me one thing. Do I need to delete emmc... file from zip, when I've unlocked the phone official way?
Edit: I think I've got my answer here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66618701&postcount=5
After official unlock, you should be able to do whatever you like. I'm still on the unofficial way, but got unlock permission today. Will let you know what is going on tomorrow (probably, if I have time to reflash).

Samsung - Downgrade After Custom ROM ?

Hello everyone.
I am a fan of Android customization, and that's why i installed LineageOS 16 on my Galaxy S7 G930F.
Everything is working fine, but i am now asking myself a question: is it possible to downgrade from that Custom 9.0 to Stock 7.0/6.0 ?
Now that we installed a custom ROM, the Bootloader should be modified, right ? The stock Bootloader blocks Odin from installing older firmwares, but is it now possible ?
I don't want to try, because i have important data on my phone, a really bad internet, and i just want to be sure if it's possible or not.
Thanks to everyone for helping me .

Lineage OS does not in any way modify your bootloader. You can flash your stock firmware without any issue. If you intend on keeping the data from apps on lineage os, and using it on stock, it's not going to work.
If you're referring to internal storage, that doesn't need be wiped when returning to stock (unless it's encrypted), only the data partition, system, cache, and dalvik cache need it.
Be aware that if you flash stock firmware using Odin, it will wipe your internal storage unless you use a home csc file. Not all firmwares have them. If you made a backup with twrp, you can restore that without any problems, and avoid worrying about your internal storage.
Thanks for that answer. I read on internet that the bootloader after Android 8.0 was locked at version 4, and did not let older firmwares with different bootloaders being installed with Odin. Of course I can flash the 8.0, but 7.0 and 6.0 does not seem possible because of that "impossibility". We can't use 8.0 bootloader with 7.0/6.0 because some functions will not work suck as vibrator. Flashing a custom firmware made me think that this "lock" would me removed. I already tried downgrading in the paste being on stock 8.0 and I got a fail. Thank for that answer !

Help first time unlocking BL on poco // Force encryption disabler - what's that?

I have my poco since january, but i am with BL locked until today, so i was always just reading the forums out here, but without do nothing on my device.
Today, i'm so tired of official stock that I'm going to EU stable rom. I don't want root, i don't want custom roms, nothing, just the eu rom. I used to use xiaomi.eu on my old phone.
But it seems that is more complicated to do things on poco f1, so that's my question : What i have to do exactly?
I have already the permission to unlock BL because of my old device, so i skipped this step of the website, because i use the same account. Then I activated everything i have to activate on developer options, i've sync my mi account to the BL unlock also, and downloaded everything (by everything i mean just the unlock tool, twrp from twrp.me and xiaomi.eu stable version 10.3.6) and I'm doing some backups right now, on google, mi account and local files on notebook.
After the backup, i plan to just unlock, go to bootloader, flash twrp, boot twrp, do nandroid and after the nandroid install xiaomi.eu already and boot my device.
I'm missing something or this is just all the steps?
I see that to install custom roms people flash two things more, the vendors and something called DFE,things that i never done before on custom roms world.
Is this necessary to install just the xiaomi.eu? I'm confused at this part, specially with this DFE. What these two files do to my device exactly? What happens if I flash them before install the rom, and what happens if i don't?
I know that this probably was asked before hundred times, but i'm kinda confused since i'm not doing those things in my devices since a long time ago, so sorry to ask one more time on XDA.
I hope you can help me explaining those things.
Already grateful
Cheers!

Alright I've received the email to unlock the bootloader now I have some questions before using it..

Alright, I've received the email as the title implies but here are the questions I have before I proceed into the whole process
Is there a way to backup the stock image without TWRP? if so how do you get the stock image backed up if it's impossible how to back up the stock bootlover/recovery before installing TWRP if I were to get rid of TWRP one day?
also is it possible to just root the system without flashing anything to avoid data loss? this would be the preferred option actually, thanks! (Using the be2028 t-mobile version, if there's a premade backup that'll be cool too.)

I am just getting back to messing around with phones after about 5 years. So many things have changed and I am trying to get answers here as well.
I used TWRP and Magisk to root my phone. Installing TWRP will not wipe your data as it is flashed to a different partition but to install TWRP you have to unlock the bootloader and that will wipe your userdata. And no, I don't believe there is any possibility of rooting without unlocking the bootloader. If you decide you want to go back to stock, there are stock roms available and you can re-lock the bootloader on the N10 so you should be able to set it back to just like it was when you first bought it. I say should because I have never done it, just read that it can be done when I unlocked and flashed mine.
I wish I could be of more help but so many things have changed in the years since I've been away from doing this stuff I feel like a total noob again.

No I do not believe there's a way to gain root without flashing anything. There's no need to backup anything you can always use the MSM download tool to restore your device. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...l-to-restore-your-device-to-oxygenos.4204445/ You should be able to find most of the stock imgs on here already if you'd really need to flash back. I'm no expert either, just my experience with this phone in particular has been pretty straightforward. I never backed up anything lol.
Twrp is iffy i made a backup I'll never use, check out the post about flashing international rom to tmo and metro devices, that's my backup. Also you can run 11.0.3/2 firmware and boot 11 gsi's the post about lir rom has the info. Flash the product_gsi.img referenced there, I have never deleted my product partition and I only leave oos ten installed long enough to take ota's. There are more roms in the source forge page referenced with lir rom post. Flash magisk via recovery, either side load or twrp, pay attention that it flashes partition sda14(super image) or wifi breaks.
